Gandhism – An Ideology

Truth and Non-violence

UP Population Control Bill 2021, Yogi Govt’s 2 Child Policy

Those having more than two children will be debarred from contesting local bodies polls, applying for government jobs or receiving any kind of subsidy, says a draft of a population control bill put up on the UP Law Commission website.

The draft bill, for which suggestions have been invited from the public till July 19, also debars people from getting promotion in government job.

The move has drawn flak from the opposition parties, with the Congress describing it as a “political agenda” ahead of the Assembly elections next year. The Samajwadi Party said the move meant the “murder of democracy”.

The UPSLC website says, “The State Law Commission, UP, is working on control, stabilisation and welfare of the population of the state and has prepared a draft bill.”

If implemented, the provisions of the draft titled The Uttar Pradesh Population (Control, Stabilization and Welfare) Bill, 2021 will come into force after one year from the date of publication in the Gazette.

The provision of this Act shall apply to a married couple where the boy is not less than 21 years of age and the girl is not less than 18.

Suggestions have been invited from the public to improve the draft bill and July 19 is the last date for it.

Listing incentives, the draft bill says, “Public servants who adopt the two-child norm will get two additional increments during the entire service, maternity or as the case may be, paternity leave of 12 months, with full salary and allowances and three per cent increase in the employer’s contribution fund under the National Pension Scheme.”

A state population fund will be constituted for its implementation. Listing the government duties, the draft bill says that maternity centres will be set up at all primary health centres.

ZIKA VIRUS

At present India slowly returns back to a state of normalcy and the implications of the second wave of coronavirus decreased. On Thursday, Kerala reported 13 cases of mosquito-borne viral infection called Zika virus for the first time.

As per the reports, the first case of Zika virus involves a 24-year-old pregnant woman in Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala. Samples from 13 persons are collected, suspected to be positive for Zika virus, have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune. 

Zika virus spreads by the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. The mosquitoes bite both during the day and night. The Aedes mosquito also known as Ae. 

According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Zika can be passed from a pregnant woman to her fetus and infection during pregnancy can cause certain birth defects.

Centre for Disease Control also suggested that people infected with the Zika virus can transmit it to their sex partners.

symptoms of Zika virus are mild. Most common symptoms include fever, rash, headache, red eyes, muscle pain and joint pain.

While the incubation period is said to be between 3–14 days, the symptoms can last for 2–7 days. However, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), individuals infected with Zika virus do not develop symptoms. The CDC believes that infected people usually don’t get sick enough to be hospitalised and very rarely do they die of Zika.

There is no specific vaccine or medicine for Zika virus, depending on symptoms effected people will be treated with related medication available.

As Zika virus spreads through the bite of an infected mosquito. We should opt clean surroundings, mosquito-ridden areas and avoid mosquito bites using mosquito and insect repellents. Clean the areas that could become a possible hub for mosquito breeding.

🌟Lakshadweep Islands are separated the Maldive islands by the Eight Degree Channel. The uninhibited “Pitt Islands” of this group has a bird sanctuary.
🌟Earlier, it had three divisions namely Laccadive, Mimicry, and Amindivi. It was named as Lakshadweep in 1973.

Argentina beat Brazil 1-0 in Copa America final

Lionel Messi’s Argentina beat Brazil 1-0 in Copa America final this Saturday to secure the Argentina’s first title in 28 years and Messi’s first major international trophy.

Argentina’s winning goal at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro was scored by Angel di Maria receiving a long pass from Rodrigo de Paul at the 22nd minute. The PSG forward chipped the ball into the net over the Brazilian goal-keeper Ederson. Neymar tried hard with dribbles and passes, but was no match for Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who won best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

It was a match which was tipped to be a battle between Brazil’s Neymar and Argentina’s Messi but both men did not have a significant impact on the game. Messi came on the brink of scoring in the later stages of the second half, but failed to get on to the score sheet.
Neymar tried his best but he was constantly fouled and tackled by Argentina midfielders and defenders. it had been a troublesome physical battle in the midfield.


Roberto Firmino’s introduction in the second half gave power to Brazil’s attack and they created a great deal of chances. Gabi had a couple of shots but were saved by Argentine goal-keeper Martinez.

Messi and De Paul, both, had an opportunity to seal the match late in the second half but Brazil survived and kept fighting.

The final whistle saw Messi fall down on his knees with tears in his eyes as his teammates rushed to him to celebrate a much awaited win.

Lionel Messi had lost three Copa America finals before this along with the 2014 FIFA World Cup final and the victory finally gives the talismanic footballer his first major trophy with the senior team.
Messi, arguably the greatest footballer of this generation alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, now has a continental title under his belt just like the Portuguese, who had lifted the Euro 2016 trophy.

At the end, all players who won Best player, Top Goal Scorer, Best Goal-keeper, were from the Argentina team; Lionel Messi winning the former two and Emiliano Martínez winning the latter. Ángel di María won Man of the Match.

THE 16TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

Abraham Lincoln became the United States’ 16th President in 1861, issuing the Emancipation Proclamation that declared forever free those slaves within the Confederacy in 1863.

Lincoln warned the South in his Inaugural Address: “In your hands, my dissatisfied fellow countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civil war. The government will not assail you…. You have no oath registered in Heaven to destroy the government, while I shall have the most solemn one to preserve, protect and defend it.”

Lincoln thought secession illegal, and was willing to use force to defend Federal law and the Union. When Confederate batteries fired on Fort Sumter and forced its surrender, he called on the states for 75,000 volunteers. Four more slave states joined the Confederacy but four remained within the Union. The Civil War had begun.

The son of a Kentucky frontiersman, Lincoln had to struggle for a living and for learning. Five months before receiving his party’s nomination for President, he sketched his life:

“I was born Feb. 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky. My parents were both born in Virginia, of undistinguished families–second families, perhaps I should say. My mother, who died in my tenth year, was of a family of the name of Hanks…. My father … removed from Kentucky to … Indiana, in my eighth year…. It was a wild region, with many bears and other wild animals still in the woods. There I grew up…. Of course when I came of age I did not know much. Still somehow, I could read, write, and cipher … but that was all.”

Lincoln made extraordinary efforts to attain knowledge while working on a farm, splitting rails for fences, and keeping store at New Salem, Illinois. He was a captain in the Black Hawk War, spent eight years in the Illinois legislature, and rode the circuit of courts for many years. His law partner said of him, “His ambition was a little engine that knew no rest.”

He married Mary Todd, and they had four boys, only one of whom lived to maturity. In 1858 Lincoln ran against Stephen A. Douglas for Senator. He lost the election, but in debating with Douglas he gained a national reputation that won him the Republican nomination for President in 1860.

As President, he built the Republican Party into a strong national organization. Further, he rallied most of the northern Democrats to the Union cause. On January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation that declared forever free those slaves within the Confederacy.

Lincoln never let the world forget that the Civil War involved an even larger issue. This he stated most movingly in dedicating the military cemetery at Gettysburg: “that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain–that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom–and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

Lincoln won re-election in 1864, as Union military triumphs heralded an end to the war. In his planning for peace, the President was flexible and generous, encouraging Southerners to lay down their arms and join speedily in reunion.

The spirit that guided him was clearly that of his Second Inaugural Address, now inscribed on one wall of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D. C.: “With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation’s wounds…. ”

On Good Friday, April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assassinated at Ford’s Theatre in Washington by John Wilkes Booth, an actor, who somehow thought he was helping the South. The opposite was the result, for with Lincoln’s death, the possibility of peace with magnanimity died.

Social entrepreneurship is an approach by individuals, groups, startup companies or entrepreneurs in which they develop fund and implement solutions to social, cultural, or environmental issues. this concept may be applied to a wide range of organizations. which vary in size, aims and beliefs. for profit entrepreneurs typically measure performance using business metrics like profit, revenues and increases in stockprices. social entrepreneurs however are either non profits, or they blend for profit goals with generating positive return to society. therefore they use different metrics. social entrepreneurship typically attempts to further broad social, cultural and environmental goals often associated with the voluntary sector. in areas such as property alleviation, health care and community development. at times profit making social entrepreneurs may be established to support the social or cultural goals of the organization but not as an end in themselves. for example an organization that aims to provide housing and employment to the homeless may operate a restaurant both to raise money and to provide employment for the homeless. in 2010 social entrepreneurship was facilitated by the use of the internet particularly social networking and social media websites. these websites enable social entrepreneurs to reach numerous people who are not geographically close yet who share the same goals and encourage them to colloborate online, learn about the issues, disseminate information about the groups events and activities and raise funds through crowdfunding.

Social entrepreneurship is distinct from the concept of entrepreneurship, yet still shares several similarities with its business cousin. jean baptiste say a french economist. defined an entrepreneur as a person who undertakes an idea and shifts perspectives in a way that it alters the effect that an idea has an society. an entrepreneur is further defined by say as someone who shifts economic resources out of an area of lower and into an area of higher productivity and greater yield. the difference between entrepreneurship however steams from the purpose of a creation. social entrepreneurs seek to transform societies at large, rather than transforming their profit margin, as classic entrepreneurs use a variety of resources to bring societies into a better state of well being. the concept of social entrepreneurship is not a novel idea but in 2000’s it has become more popular amoung society and academic research. notably after the publication of ” The rise of the social entrepreneur ” by charles leadbeater. many activities related to community development and higher social purpose fall within the modern definition nowadays, social entrepreneurship remains a difficult concept to define, since it may be manifested in multiple forms. a broad defination of the concept allows interdisciplinary research efforts to understand and challange the notions behind social entrepreneurship.
