Mandarin Chinese

With over one billion Mandarin Chinese speakers in the world, of course it tops the list of most important languages to learn in 2020.

Most speakers are located within China, however, so is it still one of the most important languages to learn? The answer is yes — with China emerging as a global power, it becomes increasingly more important for businesses to have team members that know Chinese.

Arabic

Arabic started as a nomadic language, spoken between moving tribes. Today it is the official language of the Arab League, consisting of 22 countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and the United Arab Emirates. These popular travel destinations make it worthwhile to learn Arabic. Not just that, it is the language of the entire Muslim civilization and all of its texts. With over 1.8 billion Muslims around the world, no wonder Arabic made the list.

Portuguese

Portuguese is spoken all over the world — it is the official language of countries in Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa. If that wasn’t enough to prove that this language is one of the most important languages to learn, here’s more: Brazil is emerging as one of the world’s newest economic powerhouses. Tourism in the country is growing and global companies are setting up shop, so the demand for Portuguese speakers is growing.

Hindi

With some of the highest numbers of speakers in the world, Hindi is one of the most important languages to learn without a doubt. But like with other languages, it’s not just the sheer number of speakers that should entice you to learn the language, but the global power of where the language comes from. India is a huge part of today’s world economy, and as Hindi is the most spoken language in India, it’s the one to learn.

Italian

Italian may not have the most speakers on this list, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t an important language to learn. Italy is steeped in arts, culture, and history. Many world heritage sites are located in Italy, and many historical texts are written in Italian. This country is a popular travel destination, and knowing Italian will help you on a trip. Plus, knowing any of these similar romance languages — Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese, will make it much easier to learn the others in the group.

Blood relations:logical reasoning

This is an important topic if you are preparing for any of the competitive exam. To solve such type of questions break the question into generations. For eg I and my brother will belong to one generation. My father and my mother will belong yo3 one generation and so on.

You need to use arrows and represnt Male and females differently. For eg you can use plus sign for males and minus for females. Lets understand with example.

POINTING TO RAJA RANI SAID “HIS MOTHER’S BROTHER IS THE FATHER OF MY SON RAJKUMAR.”HOENIS RAJA RELATED TO RANI. This simplifies that raja ‘s mother’s brother is father of my son. That means rani s husband is uncle of raja. Hence raja is nephew.

eg 2. Amit pointing a photo of girl says she is daughter of only son of my grandfather.

This means the girl is daughter of only son of my grandfather means his father’s daughter is that girl and girl is sister of amit.

eg3. Pointing to a man :-his only brother is the father of my daughter’s father.

My daughter’s father means me and my father’s brother. Now how I am related to my father’s brother Its easy I am his nephew.

Also you can get some questions like p+q means p is brother of q. p-q means p is sister of q.

a+b-c. a is brother of b and b is sister of c.

[Bhoomika Saini]

French

French, also called the language of love, was actually the international, diplomatic language for centuries. Only recently, historically speaking, with the rise of the United States as a global power, did English prevail as the language of diplomacy. France is still quite the economic powerhouse, and a popular travel destination, so French is definitely a language to learn!

Spanish

Spanish has a large number of native speakers, and a large number of overall speakers as well. Most Spanish speaking countries are located in South and Central America, which are extremely popular travel destinations in recent years. For this reason, you will find many across the world who speak Spanish. In addition, due to the large number of Spanish speakers in the US, if you live, work, or travel in the United States, Spanish is the one to learn!

Russian

Russian is an extremely influential language among many Eastern European and Europeasian countries. The Russian language also has the second highest percentage of internet content (following English), and the leading percent of internet content in Europe. This makes the Russian language one of the most important languages to learn for European business.

Japanese

While the Japanese language is not spoken widely outside of Japan, it’s still an important one to know. Whether you want to travel in Japan, love the culture and food, or the technology, knowing Japanese can get you far in many ways. It’s also an excellent introduction to other Asian languages. There are some Chinese characters in Japanese, and with similar grammar to Korean, learning Japanese puts you on the path to learn all three.

German

Germany is the most widely spoken language throughout Europe, as Germany remains Europe’s most dominant economy. For this reason, if you do business or plan to do business in Europe, German is one of the most important languages to learn. It’s a funny language to learn, with endings tacked on to words to give them specific meanings. But it is also a surprisingly easy language to learn.

WHAT WIPED OUT MEGALODON SHARKS

Long after the dinosaurs were extinct from this world, Megalodon sharks were called as the biggest and the greatest hunters that chewed everything into pieces. It was known as the king of the ocean and was found everywhere in the largest water bodies. It was 2.5 million years ago when the last Megalodon sharks were seen. When the modern archaeologists searched areas, the only thing they found was a set of huge teeth that belonged to the Megalodon sharks.

large tooth of the Megalodon

These sharks had a short snout, a flat lower jaw, and a set of long and massive pectoral fins that supported its heavy weight. It is believed that the ancestors of the great white sharks were present during the Megalodon era. As Meg was not fast due to its huge body, the movements and actions were slower than that of those white sharks which were much nimble. The researchers said that the great whites would often quarrel with the giant megs for food and would actually win. They were successful because they were faster that Megs and would steal their prey before Meg could catch it.

Jaw of Megalodon

Megalodon had no food and had to eat whales, another huge marine animal. Adult Megs could easily catch a whale but when it comes to the baby megs, they were very small and super vulnerable. Baby Megs were twice smaller in size to that of the great whites. Baby megs often made a good meal for the great whites, bull sharks, and tiger sharks which caused a threat to the survival of the Megs.

Even if the case was that the baby Megalodon was safe and not confronted by the great whites, they weren’t able to find food for themselves. The population of other sharks increased and they took all the food for themselves. That resulted in the starvation of the budding Megalodon.

size comparison of Megalodon, great white, and human.

As the earth was warmer before and didn’t have extreme climates it was easy for Megs to live as they prefer warm water. Soon the poles of the earth started to get colder which was another threat to the Megs . The extreme change of temperature didn’t bother the whales and many marine animals as they were adjusting to the situation. Megs on the other hand were unable to do so which left them alone in the water with no food.

Soon, Megalodons were no more.

CELL- THE BASIC UNIT OF LIFE

INTRODUCTION –  Human body is complex. It consists of several organs, nerves, blood vessels, all structured in a specific way, performing a defined work for the sustenance of the individual. The body can be compared to a building with multiple rooms, all intertwined, giving rise to a beautiful building. But even a building has a basic unit from which it is made. It is a brick. Several bricks together structured in a defined way pave way for the building. Similarly, in a human body, which is often compared to a building with God being its engineer, the basic unit is a Cell.

Never try to view Cells through naked eyes. Because it won’t be possible as cells are microscopic and can only be viewed with the help of high-power microscopes!

Number of Cells –  Is the number of cells in the body of an organism defined? Is it that a dog has ‘n’ number of cells and a cat has ‘x’ number of cells?

Cells are present in different organisms in different numbers and vary in shape and performance. As far as the number of cells in an organism is concerned, it runs in

billions and trillions and it is nearly impossible to take an actual count of the cells.

Organisms made of more than one cell are called multicellular. Whereas, organisms that sustain with only a single cell are called unicellular organisms.

Shape of cells –   Generally, cells are round, spherical, and elongated in shape. Some are pointed at the ends and all these cells carry out different functions. Other shapes may also be present but that is totally dependent on the function of that specific cell.

Cell Size –  How big are cells if they run into billions and trillions are still not visible without the help of a microscope?

Well, the size of cells in living organisms may be as small as a millionth of a meter or maybe as large as a few centimeters. The smallest cell is 0.1 to 0.5 micrometer in bacteria. The largest cell is that of an ostrich which measures 170mm*130mm.

Cell structure and function – As stated earlier, the human body is a complex structure made up of different organs. Each organ has a particular function to perform and is inevitable to an individual. The organ is made of tissues that are nothing but a group of similar cells performing a specific function.

Therefore cells combine together to form a tissue and tissues, in turn, combine to give rise to an organ.

Parts of a cell –  Just like the body is made up of organs, organs form tissues and tissues form cells, similarly, a cell also has certain components from which it is made. Components that keep it safe and aid in its living among billions of other cells.

Let us look into some of the important parts of the cell.

a) CELL MEMBRANE – The other two important parts of a cell, the cytoplasm, and the nucleus are enclosed within this membrane. The membrane separates cells from one another and also the cell forms the surrounding medium to ensure its continuity. The membrane is porous and allows easy movement of substances or materials both inward and outward.

b)CYTOPLASM – It is the jelly-like substance present between the cell membrane and the nucleus. Various other components of the cell are safely enclosed in the cytoplasm.

c)NUCLEUS- It is an important component of the living cell. It is generally spherical and located in the centre of the cell. The nucleus is separated from the cytoplasm by the nuclear membrane. The nucleus, in addition to its role in inheritance, acts as the control centre of the activities of the cell.

Conclusion-   Cell is indeed a wonderful creation. With a microscopic size and various functions to perform, carrying inside it so many components, it is definitely a wonder to read and know about it.

Tradition and Modernity

tradition is a belief or behaviour (folk custom) passed down within a group or society with symbolic meaning or special significance with origins in the past. Modernity is defined as a condition of social existence that is significantly different to all past forms of human experience, while modernization refers to the transitional process of moving from “traditional” or “primitive” communities to modern societies.

Tradition: India is considered the birthplace of some of the world’s major religions: Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism. Today, other religions such as Muslim and Christianity have worked their way into the population as well, though Hinduism remains the most popular. For some visitors, the heavy spices and herbs used in Indian cuisine can be difficult to adjust to. Indian spices are legendary for their medicinal purposes, food-preserving powers and flavour kicks. Spices, such as cumin, turmeric and cardamom, have been used over thousands of years to make otherwise bland but nutritional dishes taste better. Though it varies from region to region, wheat, Basmati rice and pulses are staples of the Indian diet. Several religious groups are vegetarian or have certain limitations as to what meat they can consume, but lamb and chicken are most common for those who do eat meat. One most old tradition is wearing sari. Saris vary from five to nine yards long and two to four feet in breadth, and are wrapped around the waist and draped over the shoulder often baring the midriff. The sari may have originated among India’s temple dancers in ancient times because saris allowed them to maintain modesty while also giving their limbs the freedom of movement. A dhoti is an unstitched piece of cloth ranging from four to five yards in length and tied around the waist and legs. Gandhi used to wear a dhoti, and it was considered to be an attire that commanded dignity and respect.

Modernity: Modern Indian culture is a combination of traditional Indian customs, British heritage and other modern influences from around the world. It would impossible to cover every aspect of it, but let’s explore some important and interesting elements. The majority of the population practices one of the forms of Hinduism. This faith is a combination of several religious beliefs and traditions and is commonly perceived as a way of life. Islam is the second largest religion, coexisting with Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, Christianity and others. Modern India is also a test of two middle-ground philosophies. As an early proponent of non-alignment in international politics, India has attempted to establish a [middle] position between Western and [communist] oriented states. Over the years, its leadership in carving out a Third World posture demonstrated that there is a viable route for nations who did not want to take sides in Cold War politics, an approach which many other nations in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East have followed and hope to sustain.

Conflict between tradition and modernity: It might benefit us to engage with the idea of parampara, which is the Sanskrit word, also used in many other Indian languages, for what we call tradition in English. While tradition is not exactly an equivalent, it is also quite resonant. Methodologically, it is useful to make key concepts across cultures and meaning universes to converse with each other, rather than subduing or supplanting each other—in our case, the Western idea superimposing and superseding ours. Indian modernity is Janus-faced, even schizophrenic. On the one hand, it looks to the West and to the future, but on the other hand, it looks to India and its past. Arguably, the single most significant problematic in recent Indian intellectual history is that of tradition vs modernity. After nearly 200 years of debate and discussion, it seems fairly clear that India can have neither pure tradition, nor uncontaminated modernity. Whatever we are or have become has to be some combination or amalgamation of both

NASA girl trolled for her faith- peak of Hinduphobia

Humanity hit a new low when an Indian origin American girl was heavily trolled by netizens just because of her faith. NASA, in order to invite new interns tweeted an application showcasing the diverse nature of the organization. An Indian girl also featured in the tweet with Hindu idols in the background of her picture.

An innumerable number of trolls targeted the girl criticizing NASA for including such a “stereotypical” image of Indians according them. But is it okay to bash someone merely because they follow a particular faith or religion? The girl undoubtedly secured a place through her efforts and a futile, good for nothing crowd directly mocked her as a fake science-lover only because she believes in her Gods. If atheism was a criterion to get selected in any scientific organization then people should also nullify the work and contributions of Einstein, Newton and Darwin.

It is so shameful to read the tweets and realize how much hatred and Hinduphobia is prevalent in society. Some of the tweets read ‘She missed Lord Ganesha and 33 million other Gods’, ‘NASA and gods don’t mix. The Indian kid seems to have some kind of obsession with Gods’. Other tweets are too vile to read.

Another user very accurately pointed out “All those mocking her: Hijab, polygamy, child marriages, Niqab, prayers on road, etc. are supposed to be respected under the concept of ‘choice’ and ‘pluralism’ but a Hindu lady practicing her faith has to be ridiculed. Carry on! Your bigotry will make her faith stronger.”

It is indeed true that the case would have been very contrasting only if the girl was wearing either hijab or had a Christ portrait in the background. However, irrespective of any religion or faith, no one should be criticked or targeted just because they are proud of their roots.
