Pegasus, The New Global Pandemic

Pegasus is a highly sophisticated surveillance software developed by an Israeli tech firm called the NSO Group. The company is well known for creating specialized cyber weapons.

The first report of Pegasus came into public knowledge in 2016 when the software hacked an iPhone of an Arab human rights activist. Few days later Apple released an iOS update protecting its devices against the software. Later, in 2017 it was found that the system can hack android devices as well, following which, Google also launched an OS update to counter the dangerous software. In 2019, Facebook sued NSO Group for creating the surveillance software. These incidents struck fear for everyone in the world as they realized Pegasus is capable of hacking even the largest companies in the world.

How exactly can a device get attacked by the Pegasus software? Multiple reports suggest methods used for the software to enter a phone. It could happen when the user clicks on unknown links that are mysteriously sent to their phone. Even a single missed call can automatically be installed on a phone, and upon installation of the software, it automatically deletes the missed call from the log entry, making it unaware to the user about the hacking that has taken place on their device.

According to cybersecurity research, Pegasus will be able to access calls. Messages, apps, user location, camera and microphone from the device that has been hacked.

On July 18th, it was reported that documents evaluated by international media and agencies showed a list of phones numbers that are targeted for surveillance using the Pegasus software. European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday that the spyware scandal involving the Israeli software firm and up to 50,000 smartphone numbers was “completely unacceptable” if true. “This has to be verified, but if it is the case, it is completely unacceptable,” she told reporters in Prague. It was also reported that 40 Indian journalists, as well as other public figures, politicians and activists, were attacked by the software.

Pegasus was meant to be used by governments on a per-license basis. NSO stated that it sells its spyware only to “vetted governments”. The home page of NSO Group’s website says the company creates technology that “helps government agencies” prevent and investigate terrorism and crime to save thousands of lives around the globe. NSO will not confirm whether the Indian government is a customer but the presence of Pegasus infections in the phones of journalists and others in India suggests that one or more official agencies here are actively using the spyware.

Major World Religions

Religions exist in all parts of the world, in different forms. Religion is prominent worldwide because it gives answers to the age-old questions of where humans came from, what is our place in this world, and where do we go after we die. Religions are systems of belief that have developed in response to these and other eternal mysteries. Hence, they were formed as a way to explain humanity’s unanswerable questions and comfort us with the fact that there is some higher power(s) acting as the controlling force in the universe. With time, many new religions have developed in the world, each giving their own explanations and defining their own gods/principles. Obviously, it is impossible to know which religion is accurate, or whether any religion is accurate at all. However, it is important to understand the various religions we have in the world, as they provide meaning and purpose to many individuals. Here is a brief look at some of the major world religions.

Hinduism

It is the major religion of India, but is also present in other parts of the world. There are a variety of beliefs and spiritual practices in Hinduism, which is why it is sometimes referred to as a ‘way of life’ as opposed to a single organized religion. There is a pantheon of gods in Hinduism, and different people may worship different deities. Hindus believe in the doctrines of samsara (the continuous cycle of life, death, and reincarnation) and karma (the universal law of cause and effect). One of the key thoughts of Hinduism is atman, or the belief in a soul. This philosophy holds that living creatures have a soul, and they are all part of the supreme soul (paramatman). The goal is to achieve moksha, or salvation, which ends the cycle of rebirths to become part of the absolute soul. Furthermore, Hindus strive to follow dharma, which is a code of living that emphasizes good conduct and morality.

Judaism

Judaism is the world’s oldest monotheistic religion, dating back nearly 4,000 years. It is most commonly practiced in the USA and Israel. Unlike Hinduism, followers of Judaism believe in only one God who communicates to believers through prophets. The Jewish sacred text is called the Tanakh or the Hebrew Bible, and Talmud is a collection of teachings and commentaries on Jewish law and principles. Jewish people worship in holy places known as synagogues, and their spiritual leaders are called rabbis. The six-pointed Star of David is the symbol of Judaism.

Buddhism

Buddhism is a religion that was founded by Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) more than 2,500 years ago in India. Its practice has historically been most prominent in East and Southeast Asia, but its influence is growing in the West. Followers of Buddhism do not acknowledge a supreme god or deity. Instead, they focus on achieving enlightenment, which is a state of inner peace and wisdom. When followers reach this spiritual echelon, they are deemed to have experienced nirvana. The path to enlightenment is attained by following morality, meditation and wisdom. Buddha’s most important teachings, known as The Four Noble Truths, are essential to understanding this religion.

Christianity

Christianity is the most widely practiced religion in the world. The Christian faith centers on beliefs regarding the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is also a monotheistic religion. Christians believe there is only one God, and he created the heavens and the earth. This divine Godhead consists of three parts: the father (God himself), the son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Bible includes Jesus’s and his disciples’ most important teachings, and offer instructions for how Christians should live. The cross is the main symbol of Christianity, representing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and how he died as a sacrifice for everyone’s sins.

Islam

Islam is the second largest religion in the world after Christianity, with about 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide. Muslims are also monotheistic and worship only one, all-knowing god known as Allah. Islam teaches that Allah’s words first reached the people in Mecca, through the divine messenger known as prophet Muhammad. Muslims live a life of complete submission to Allah, and believe that all that happens in life is god’s will. The Quran is the major holy text of Islam, and Mosques are the places of worship for Muslims. Followers worship Allah by praying and reciting the Quran. They believe there will be a day of judgment, and life after death.

Conclusion

The religions mentioned here are only some of the most popular ones in the world. In fact, there are hundreds of religions with different beliefs and practices. Religion has been an aspect of culture for as long as it has existed, and its main purpose is to provide a person with insight into life and give them some meaning. A person can choose to follow whichever religion fulfils his spiritual needs and gives him something meaningful to believe in.

The Accidental Discovery !

  • An enzyme that produces some mycotoxins less deadly has been discovered by a group of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) researchers at the London Research and Development Centre in London, Ont.

    WHY IT MATTERS?
  • Mycotoxin infection in crops can have a massive monetary impact for farmers and biofuel producers, and consumption by humans or livestock can have serious health concerns, including death.

  • The discovery was an accident as per Dr. Mark Sumarah, a mycotoxin and fungal expert at the London Research and Development Centre.
  • Sumarah and his colleague Dr. Justin Renaud were initially seeking to discover more a few mycotoxin referred to as orchotoxin A and therefore the possible risk of it to contaminate Canadian grapes, and subsequently wine. Sumarah says orchotoxin A may be a significant mycotoxin worldwide, but there was not much data on its effect in Canada.
Mycotoxins are toxic metabolites generated by fungi that inhabit crop species which prevents them to survive on plants, but when consumed they will put the health of humans and livestock at risk.

  • Long time ago, the investigators were observing the fungus Aspergillus to look for orchotoxin A, and located that Aspergillus produced not only orchotoxin A, but another sort of mycotoxin known as fumonisin. Sumarah says this wasn’t unforeseen, but what was a shock is that the fungus produced varieties of fumonisin that nobody had glimpsed in the past. The most interesting thing about these compounds was that although every formerly known fumonisin contains a nitrogen molecule, these new ones didn’t .
  • This made the scientists curious. Sumarah, and Renaud did further work to decide that nitrogen is the single-most valuable factor in the toxicity of fumonisins.

  • The scientists figured it had to be an enzyme. The team then successfully separated the enzyme responsible for transforming some fumonisins into types that need nitrogen, and began work in partnership with Lallemand Inc. through a Canadian Agricultural Partnership project to commercially create the enzyme for the decontamination of fumonisins.
Lallemand may be a privately held company based in Quebec that produces yeast, bacteria the main target of the enzyme for the corporate like Deoxynivalenol (DON), fumonisins can contaminate crops  and cause infection or develop challenges for livestock, and become concentrated in distillers grains from biofuel production.
  • Sumarah says that fumonisins are a worldwide problem and he has colleagues in areas where corn is a staple in the diet, such as South Africa and Latin America, who are concerned about fumonisins related to human health. Fumonisins are linked to esophageal cancers and there’s suspicion they’re linked to ectoderm birth defects and other cancers
  • Although commercialization of the enzyme is several years away, the research trio have an interest find an enzyme which will tackle DON.

Mineral Resources and Associated Problems

Mineral resources are the one , from which usable material are extracted economically from the concentrated elements, compounds, minerals or rocks from the earth. Minerals are site specific  and finite. Minerals are naturally occurring chemical compounds formed through inorganic processes under the crust of the earth. Their presence in the Earth’s crust is the result of geological processes operating over a long period of time. The distribution of these minerals resources is uneven throughout the Earth. India is rich in 35 minerals such as iron, aluminum, manganese, chromium, limestone, mica, etc. Minerals have important contributions in the economic & industrial development of a country.

Types of Minerals

  • Metallic Minerals – Pure Metals are obtained by chemical process. 11 metallic minerals are available in India. Ex. Iron, copper, gold, bauxite, manganese, etc.
  • Non-Metallic Minerals – Used in their naturally occurring state. 52 non metallic minerals are found in India. Ex. limestone, manganese, mica, gypsum, coal, dolomite, phosphate, salt, granite, etc.
  • Fuel Minerals – Are utilized as fuel. Ex Coal, Petroleum, Natural Gas, etc.

Types of Mining

Surface Mining

  • A mine in which ore lies near the surface & can be extracted by removing the covering layers of the rock & soil.
  • Almost all surface mining operations are exposed to the elements & require no roof support.
  • EX. Coal, Copper, Iron, Crushed Stone, Aluminum etc.

Sub Surface mining

  • Digging tunnels or shafts into the Earth to reach ore deposits.
  • Ore, for processing, & waste rock, for disposal, are brought to the surface through the tunnels & shafts.
  • EX. Natural Gas, Petroleum

USE & OVEREXPLOITATION

  • Mining is hazardous occupation
  • Rapid depletion of high grade minerals
  • Wastage of upper soil layer and vegetation
  • Environmental problems
  • Productive land into mining and industrial areas.
  • Air, water and land pollution.
  • Consumption of energy resources like coal, petroleum, natural gas etc.
  • Directly degrades the fertile soil surface thus effect ecology and climate.

EFFECTS

  • Deforestation and desertification
  • Extinction of species
  • Rapid depletion of high grade minerals
  • Forced migration
  • Wastage of upper soil layer and vegetation
  • Soil erosion and oil depletion
  • Ozone depletion
  • Greenhouse gas increase
  • Environmental pollution
  • Natural hazards

STATUS OF MINES IN INDIA

India produces as many as 86 metals & minerals. u80 % of mining in India is for coal. India has over 3500 legal mines. Illegal mines is the major problem in the country. i.e.180000. Over 1 million people are employed in this industry. Mining has adversely affected biodiversity, ecosystem, local culture, and community.

CASE STUDY : Bauxite deposits of Kolhapur

It was started in 1968 by Kolkata based Indian Aluminum Company, later became HINDALCO. Bauxite and laterite from aquifers in ground water thus change the ground water conditions. It cause loss of vegetation. Rehabilitation and afforestation is essential.

PROTECTION PLAN

  • Afforestation on mining site.
  • Formation of contour trenches in mining site.
  • Formation of green belt along the roads.
  • Parks & gardens in the township area & green belt around it is developed.

ANGER MANAGEMENT

Anger is a normal, healthy, negative or negative feeling. Like any emotion, you convey a message, telling you that the situation is annoying, unfair, or intimidating. If your knee-jerk reaction to anger erupts, however, that message will never have a chance to be conveyed. Thus, while it is normal to feel anger when you have been mistreated or abused, anger becomes a problem if you express it in a way that could hurt yourself or others.

You may think that venting your anger is healthy, and that the people around you are very sympathetic, that your anger is justified, or that you need to show your anger in order to gain respect. But the fact is that anger is more likely to have a negative impact on people’s perceptions, distort your judgment, and lead to success.

Consequences of anger

Persistent anger or uncontrolled anger can have devastating effects on you:

Physical health. Constant exposure to high levels of stress and anger makes you more prone to heart disease, diabetes, weakened immune systems, insomnia, and high blood pressure.

Mental health. Persistent anger consumes a lot of mental energy, and it disturbs your thinking, making it difficult to concentrate or enjoy life. It can also lead to depression, depression, and other mental health problems.
Work. Constructive criticism, artistic differences, and heated debate can be healthy. But exclusion only divides colleagues, managers, or clients and destroys their self-esteem.

Relationships. Anger can create lasting scars on your loved ones and can lead to friendships and relationships at work. Outbursts of anger make it difficult for others to trust you, to speak honestly, or to feel comfortable – and especially to children. If you have a hot temper, you may feel like it is out of your hands and there is little you can do to soften the beast. But you can control your anger more than you think. By understanding the real causes of your anger and these anger tools, you can learn to express your feelings without hurting others and keeping your anger from ruining your life.

TECHNIQUES FOR ANGER MANAGEMENT:-

When you are angry, you may experience feelings anywhere from minor irritability to anger. If that happens, try the following:

;Breathe deeply from your diaphragm.
:Give yourself a spoken word.
:Slightly repeat the calm word or phrase “relax” or “calm down.” Repeat as you breathe out until the anger subsides.
:Afterward, express yourself clearly and calmly.

Some Ways to Control Anger

:Exercise like regular exercise is a way to improve your mood and relieve tension.
:Avoid drugs and alcohol, which can make you more prone to depression. Alcohol can also relieve your tension by saying or doing something you used to do.
:Get the support of others. Talk about your feelings and try to work on changing your behavior.
:If you have trouble recognizing when you have angry thoughts, keep a written record of when you feel angry.
:Try to get a different perspective by putting yourself in someone else’s place.
:Learn how to laugh and see jokes in situations.
:Really listen. Listening can help improve communication and can build trust between people. This hope can help you to deal with potentially hostile emotions. A useful communication function is to say to someone, “Let me make sure I understand what you are saying” and then return to them what you think was their main message or opinion. This approach can help to clarify misunderstandings that can lead to frustration, and point out issues where you can ultimately “agree to disagree” without arguing.
:Strengthen yourself by expressing your feelings in a calm and direct manner, without self-defense, hostility, or spiritual suspicion. Read self-help books or seek professional help from a therapist to learn how to use confidence and control skills.

CONCLUSION

If you believe that your anger is out of control and has a negative effect on your health and relationships, seek the help of a mental-health professional. A psychiatrist or other licensed mental health professional can work with you to teach you ways to change your thinking and behavior. A mental health professional can help you deal with your anger in a positive way.

Ask your doctor if medication can be helpful. In some cases, anti-depressants, certain anticonvulsants, and low-antipsychotic may help to treat a sudden attack of anger or rage. Avoid alcohol, benzodiazepines that work temporarily like Xanax, or street drugs that can cause you to say or do things in a hurry. Choose your therapist carefully, and make sure you talk to a professional who is trained to teach anger control skills and assurance techniques.

PRADHAN MANTRI GARIB KALYAN YOJANA ,” MAGIC WAND IN COVID SITUATION “

The numbers of Unemployment rate of India were not good & this pandemic have done the work of fuel in the fire . In January 2021, India saw an unemployment rate of over six percent. This was a significant improvement from the previous month. A damaging impact on an economy as large as India’s caused due a total lockdown was imminent. Unemployment went up to nearly 24 percent in April 2020. This was possibly a result of a decrease in demand as well as the disruption of workforce faced by companies.

The most drastic impact of pandemic was lockdown , & the most drastic impact of lockdown was on economically backward class ,because these people don’t have good medical system , & people from these sections mostly were of labour class , all factories & construction sites were shut , without employment & with no money left in their hands , these people were left unemployed . In India employment rate in 2019 was 5.36% which increased by over 6 % in 2021. These were not good numbers for India. Before numbers of unemployment one major thing to keep in consideration was these economically backward class . For these people , our honorable prime minister , Shri Narender Modi Ji launched a yojana named as “PRADHAN MANTRI GARIB KALYAN YOJANA” .

Just to give you all a gist of what this yojana is & what are the benefits of this yojana , & how this yojana worked as a magic wand for all the poor people who were left unemployed & lost their loved ones due to COVID19 .

The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana / Package is a comprehensive relief package of Rs 1.70 Lakh Crore Yojana for the poor to help them fight the battle against Corona Virus. This was announced in March 2020, to reach out to the poorest of the poor, with food and money in hands, so that they do not face difficulties in buying essential supplies and meeting essential needs. The package included the measures listed hereunder from 30th March 2020:

  • Insurance cover of Rs 50 Lakh per health worker fighting COVID-19 to be provided under Insurance Scheme – extended for one year effective April 2021
  • 80 crore poor people will to get 5 kg wheat or rice and 1 kg of preferred pulses for free every month for the next three months – extended to November 2021 (initially, the package was extended to May & June 2021; originally, it was extended to November 2020)
  • 20 crore women Jan Dhan account holders to get Rs 500 per month for next three months
  • Increase in MNREGA wage to Rs 202 a day from Rs 182 to benefit 13.62 crore families
  • An ex-gratia of Rs 1,000 to 3 crore poor senior citizen, poor widows and poor disabled
  • Government to front-load Rs 2,000 paid to farmers in first week of April 2020 under existing PM Kisan Yojana to benefit 8.7 crore farmers
  • Central Government has given orders to State Governments to use Building and Construction Workers Welfare Fund to provide relief to Construction Workers.

Our government is providing food , money & insurance facility to the weaker sections of the society, so that though being unemployed they don’t sleep empty stomach. Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, 312 billion Indian rupees were accrued and provided to around 331 million beneficiaries that included women, construction workers, farmers, and senior citizens. More aid was announced in mid-May, to mainly support small businesses through the crisis. Coming to the conclusion , though unemployment numbers are rising but government is much concerned about the living of people , & is much concerned about health of people , because govt. knows that is people will live , they can make living too.

Should India be more welcoming in homosexuality??

The ages old and most divine Indian culture always emphise that person is all about what they do .Your karma is the only way to judge you . Your ‘ Karma’ defines your character. The influence of the western culture has made the youth to forget what their true culture was . Homosexuality is not something which is different from the world .Its as normal as Human eat to survive.

*Being Homo is not a choice
Homosexuality is not choice that given to the people ,its already exist in the world like male and female do. Its not something that have been created out of a sudden from somewhere. Its been there since the creation of the world .Still the question remains the same ,how something which is already very normal have to become normal .Why is it like that?

*Why is it like that??
The hatred towards LGBT was due to Victorian Era laws .The British bring the laws which descreminate LBTQ community . Moreover ,they are the one who brought article 377,which banned Homo marraiges in India.Indian were much more intellectual than the Westerns .It was a country were love was celebrated in each and every form.
*What we should do now??
We should welcome back the culture that we have .Love is just love ,the purest form of emotion and lucky are whose who can feel that emotion.
Its important to normalize it ,the way it was years back. Celebrate Love, in which ever form it is.

CONCLUSION
The knowledge seekers of Indian culture might know about our culture but the people who belive that Homosexuality is not” Normal “are the one who needs to get some education as they are most illiterate people in the world. Its high time ,we are in twenty first century , people need to understand that something which is already normal ,just because you don’t feel that It is right ,is not going to change anything.

We should be more welcoming towards the LBTQ community . Acceptance is a journey ,its going to take a lot of time but coming out and accept yourself the way you are ,is a choice and you can do that.
Celebrate love…..

Indian Independence Act of 1947

On February 20 1947, the British Prime Minister Clement Attlee declared that the British rule in India would end by June 30 1948 after which the power would be transferred to responsible Indian hands. This announcement was followed by the agitation by the Muslim League demanding partition of the country. Again on June 3rd 1947 the British government made it clear that any constitution framed by the constituent assembly of India cannot be applied to those parts of the country which were unwilling to accept it, on the same day Lord Mountbatten the viceroy of India put forth the partition plan known as the Mountbatten plan. The plan was accepted by the Congress and the Muslim League. Immediate effect was given to the plan by enacting the Indian Independence Act 1947.

Features of this act were as follows:

It ended the British rule in India and declared India as an independent and Sovereign state from August 15 1947.

It provided for the partition of India and creation of two independent Dominions of India and Pakistan with the right to secede from the British Commonwealth.

It abolished the office of Viceroy and provided for either dominion a governor general who was to be appointed by the British King on the advice of the Dominion cabinet. His Majesty’s government in Britain was to have no responsibility with respect to the Government of India and Pakistan.

It empowered the constituent assembly of the two dominions to frame and adopt any constitution for the respective nations and repeal any act of the British Parliament including the Independence Act itself.

It empowered the constituent assembly of both the Dominions to legislate for their respective territory till the new Constitution was drafted and enforced. No act of the British Parliament passed after August 15 1947 was to extend to either of the dominions unless it was extended thereto by a law of the Legislature of the Dominion.

It abolished the office of the Secretary of State for India and transferred his functions to the secretary of state for Commonwealth affairs.

It proclaimed the lapse of the British paramountcy over the Indian princely states and the Treaty relations with the tribal areas from August 15 1947.

It granted freedom to the Indian princely states to join the Dominion of India or dominion of Pakistan or to remain independent.

It provided for the Governance of each of the dominance and the provinces by the government of India Act of 1935 till the new Constitution was framed. The dominions were  however authorised to make modifications in the Act.

It deprived the British monarch of his right to veto bills or ask for reservation of certain bills for his approval. But this right was reserved for the Governor-General. The governor-general would have full power to assent to any bill in the name of His Majesty.

It designated the governor general of India and the provincial governors as constitutional heads of states; they were made to act on the advice of the respective Council of Ministers in all matters.

It dropped the title of Emperor of India from the Royal titles of the king of England.

It discontinued the appointment to the civil services and reservation of posts by the secretary of state for India

The members of the civil services appointed before August 15 ,1947 would continue to enjoy all the benefits they were entitled to till that time.

At the stroke of midnight of 14-15 August 1947 the British rule came to an end and the power was transferred to the two new independent dominions of India and Pakistan. Lord Mountbatten became the first Governor General of the new Dominion of India, he swore in Jawaharlal Nehru as the first Prime Minister of independent India. The Constituent assembly of India formed in 1946 in became the parliament of the Indian Dominion.
