Terrorists attack in Karachi

Recently, 10 people killed in pakistan alongwith 4 terrorists and 4 security guards, 1 sub-inspecter of police and a civilian, The Dawn reported and also said that three police officials were badly injured.

The gunmen, according to The Dawn, stepped out of a vehicle and lobbed grenades before entering the stock exchange premises.

AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, magazines and other explosive material have been recovered, the police said, adding that the equipment indicated that they had come for a long siege. Sindh Rangers Director General Umer Ahmed Bukhari said that a tweet had been posted in which the attack has been attributed to the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), The Dawn reported. However, Bukhari added that a final statement on it will be issued after investigation.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said, “Strongly condemn attempted terrorist attack on Pakistan Stock Exchange, thwarted by valiant security personnel, four of whom sacrificed their lives protecting Pakistan. We have repeatedly warned about externally supported terrorism. PSX is safe & open for business.”

The BLA is a Baloch secessionist militant group headed by UK-based Hyrbayair Marri. Pakistan has long accused India of backing Baloch separatists and militants — an allegation India has always denied. It also alleges an Afghan hand in the movement.

Also there may be some chinese investment links but nothing can be said untill the investigation goes to conclusion.

Maybe you still long for a loving mother like you did when you were young, hoping that one day she’ll show up, or maybe you’ve given up hope that your mother will ever change.

Either way, she left open wounds inside your entire being—invisible traces of the trauma that you sustained. And you need to heal these wounds so that you can rediscover your true nature, activate your full potential, and live a life of your choice—a life filled with joy.

Healing is crucial for your health—mental, physical and spiritual alike. The good news is, you don’t have to live in misery waiting for the “perfect” day to start being happy. In fact, bringing more joy into your life now will help you heal.

Think about it this way: Joy is like the sun that eats away grey clouds and opens up the skies. Everything it touches brightens up and fills with the energy of growth.

Joy helps minimize the stress of the fight-or-flight reactions that you grew accustomed to because of to your traumatic past. It activates positive patterns in your brain instead, helping you heal and thrive.

Just like it helped me.

How I Learned to Speak Joy
I was thirty-one when I made the life-changing decision to move abroad, far away from the stress of the strained relationship with my mum. On the outside, I was a confident adult woman, the mother of a seven-year-old boy. But inside, I felt like a scared little girl longing for a safe place to hide.

Moving to a new country brought much positive change into my life. But, like nearly everything in life, with the good came a challenge.

Running from my narcissistic mum, I left behind everything I knew—everything I had built in my life. I also left Mum alone with my dear sick father in the age before the Internet, when international phone calls could bite holes in a family budget. What I wanted was a break from the pain inflicted by Mum’s behaviour, but I never stopped worrying about her and my dad.

I swapped my career in one of the country’s best medical centers for the life of a housewife, surrounded by strangers who spoke a language I didn’t understand. I uprooted my little boy and brought him to an unfamiliar place far away. We both felt like two survivors who had landed on another planet, and I needed all my strength just to stop myself from falling apart.

So how did I step beyond merely surviving, and begin to thrive? By making a conscious decision to live in the now and enjoy what I have.

As simple as it seemed, it was a challenge in itself. You see, Mum taught me that life was serious business, and neither fun nor joy belonged there. Fortunately, the healthy part inside of me knew what I needed: to master another “foreign” language—the language of joy. Fortunately, I listened.

So, there I was, learning to enjoy mundane chores like vacuuming and cleaning bathrooms—what could be less joyful than that? But I would turn on MTV, sing along, and swing my hips to the tunes blazing out of the big black box of a TV we had back then. And that simple trick drizzled my life with positivity, helping me to turn boring, everyday stuff into pleasurable activities.

After that small success, I learned to seek and find joy in everything I did.

You may be unable to change every challenging circumstance of your life, but you can bring more balance to your emotional inner world.

Being a food lover, I experimented with local recipes, enjoying tickles of creativity and sharing the results.

My mother-in-law, Kirsten, who called me every day, clearly cared about us. Unfortunately, we didn’t speak a common language, and I needed something to make those conversations come alive. So, I made a list of the stuff I was usually doing—I’m vacuuming, reading, helping my son with his homework, and so on—and my husband translated it for me. This list became not only my first lesson in Danish, but it also brought joy to our connection and deepened our relationship.

I loved spending quality time with my son with no stress attached and enjoyed the growing feeling of closeness between us. I did my best to help him cope with new people and our new life, and in turn, he helped me.

I enjoyed my time alone, too—a walk with the dog (another language to learn!), sunbathing on the terrace, or reading a book. For the first time in my life, I could sit there doing nothing, and no one would criticize me for being “lazy” as Mum used to!

Spice up your daily activities to expand a flow of positivity and minimize reactivity patterns.

Looking back, I clearly see that I learned to be in the moment, pay attention to what I was doing, and do it with joy.

Gradually, my overall mood began to improve, and I could see my life in a brighter light. Each day started to look more like an adventure, with endless possibilities for joy presenting themselves.

It didn’t heal my trauma, of course, but it helped me get the best out of a turbulent time of change and prepared me for a healing journey.

Your Brain Still Remembers
The chronic stress of developmental trauma has a long-lasting impact on the brain. Overloaded with negative bias, some parts of your brain are overwhelmed and “acting out,” while others are numb, taken out of the game. You need to calm the loud ones and reactivate those that have gone quiet. By doing so, you re-center yourself and find a healthier emotional balance.

When you laugh, have fun, or simply enjoy the moment, troubles and worries step aside, and you enter another realm where you feel connected, safe, and loved.

Joy is inside you as a natural part of your true being. You simply need to find and reconnect with it.

Here’s how you can increase your ability to feel joy.

Acknowledge your current situation.


Put in words what you’re struggling with, why, and how it’s negatively impacting you—not to punish anyone but to clarify the challenge. Remember, denial keeps you stuck, but acknowledging things for what they are opens doors for personal growth, healing, and joy.

Now, knowing where you stand, ask yourself what you want your life to be and what you can do to get there. Possibilities for moving forward always exist; even small steps will take you closer to your goal.

Find balance in a state of control.


Either too much or too little control means co-dependency. Many people try to overcontrol their lives. To overcome this, let go of things that are beyond your control, like changing other people. Instead, focus more on self-growth.

In other cases, people allow their circumstances to dictate their lives, resulting in too little control or even no control at all. If that’s the case for you, it means taking matters into your own hands. Start with easier things like taking care of your well-being and choosing things that bring you joy. After that, work on saying no and building and defending strong boundaries.

Learn to tolerate difficult emotions.


To achieve a peaceful and joyful state, you must first learn to tolerate your difficult emotions. It’s not easy, but staying with your grief, anger, or shame can turn things around and free space for positive emotions. If you push these difficult feelings away, they will almost certainly eat you alive. Do you want to miss out on all the good stuff in life? I didn’t think so.

Validate your feelings instead of suppressing them, denying them, or pushing them away. You have the right to all of them! How could you not be angry, sad, or in mourning when you grew up without the loving mother you longed for as a child?

Working through painful feelings on your own can be tough, so ask your partner, a friend, or a therapist to support you during this time.

Live in the moment.


Did you know that multitasking is one of the biggest enemies of joy? It’s true! Taking on multiple tasks at once keeps your mind and body overloaded, and it’s impossible to enjoy yourself when you’re constantly changing activities. Focusing on one thing, on the contrary, allows joy to surface and bloom.

Learn to calm yourself.


Nobody is happy or relaxed all the time, but you can learn the skills and techniques to calm yourself when you need to. By doing so, you help your brain build more positive connections and open up for joy.

Mindfulness and mediation are two excellent techniques that help you to slow down and focus on the moment. If sitting silently cross-legged on a cushion isn’t for you, don’t worry, there are other ways to get the benefits of these practices. Anything that helps you focus, pay attention, and be present will do the trick.

Engage yourself fully.


No matter what you do, get completely involved in it. Even when you do something out of necessity, it’s possible to find joy in the action. Fully engaging in everything you do helps you discover new, exciting sides to boring stuff from your to-do list. And sometimes, adding fun to dull, repetitive activities like washing the dishes or waiting for the bus solves the problem and awakens joy.

Help or share.


Social connections bring lots of joy into your life, even if you’re just connecting on Zoom. Help people, or share something with them—a cup of coffee, a smile, or a passion of yours. For example, I like to bake, and blend facial tonics and creams; it helps me relax. But sharing my passions with others is what brings me profound satisfaction and joy.

And the effect stays for days and weeks—I promise!

Choose joy.


More joy means lower levels of inflammation in your body, better health, and greater happiness. You’re no longer a prisoner of your emotions and can consciously choose where you want to use your energy and how.

Activating joy helps you reconnect with an authentic, wise part inside of you that knows how to love. It means finally feeling like yourself and safe inside your skin—no matter what traumas you have endured throughout your life.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan today paid tributes to Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis on National Statistics Day.

In a tweet, Mr. Javadekar said, notable contribution was made by Prof. Mahalanobis in the field of economic planning and statistical development.

Dr. Harshvardhan in a tweet said, this day is being celebrated as the birth anniversary of Prof. Mahalanobis. He said, statistics plays an  important role in formulation of policies and plans needed for the development of the country. 

Harsimrat Kaur Badal invites investors to convert challenges into opportunities for food processing sector

Food processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has invited all states and investors to convert the challenges into opportunities for the food processing sector in India. Addressing a meeting through video conferencing, she said that the nationwide lockdown was successful due to the Government’s effort to make essentials especially food available at every corner of the country since the beginning.

Mrs Badal requested all participants to follow the clarion call of Hon’ble Prime Minister to become ‘Atma  Nirbhar’ and ‘be vocal for local’. She said new countries are looking at India as a sourcing hub as compared to the traditional ones from where these were importing earlier. She urged  the industry to ensure that  it works at its full potential.

The Minister advised all investors to look at the low hanging Ready to Eat (RTE) segment as a potential opportunity. She mentioned that the Superfoods of India need to be highlighted to the western world. She advised states to share the most popular and nutritious local food which could be branded and marketed through big retailers in foreign countries to target Indian diaspora.

The Union Minister talked about the importance of modern technology for creating an aggregation portal at the national level for monitoring pan India inventory of agri-food products which would not only help the industry in sourcing but also help in boosting exports.

She highlighted that 74 per cent  of the total employment in food processing was in the unorganized segment. She said 60 per cent  of the 25 lakh units were in rural areas and 80 per cent of these were family owned. Mrs Badal said this segment alone could be the future of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and could make the initiative successful. Minister of State Rameswar Teli was also present.

The forum witnessed participation from the senior most policy makers from both Union and 6 State Governments – Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. 193 companies from 19 countries also participated in the forum.

CBSE evaluates Board performance based on assessment scheme; to declare result on July 15

Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE is evaluating the performance of the students of class 10th and 12th based on the assessment scheme. CBSE said the result will be declared on 15th July.  

Talking exclusively to AIR, Controller of Examination of CBSE, Dr. Sanyam Bharadwaj said that CBSE is taking care of every student while evaluating the student performance.

Recently, CBSE has decided to cancel the examination for class 10th and 12th which were scheduled from 1st  to 15th July.

COVID-19 recovery rate improves to 58.67 pct in country

The Government today said that a total of three lakh 21 thousand 723 people affected with coronavirus have been cured in the country so far. In the past 24 hours, 12 thousand ten people have recovered from Covid-19 and with this the recovery rate has reached 58.67 per cent.

The Health and Family Welfare Ministry said, a total of 19 thousand 459 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the country within 24 hours taking the total number of cases to five lakh 48 thousand 318. In a single day, 380 deaths have been reported taking the nationwide toll to 16 thousand 475. Presently, the total number of active corona cases in the country is two lakh 10 thousand 120.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research, ICMR said that one lakh 70 thousand 560 tests of corona virus samples were conducted by the various laboratories in the country within 24 hours. So far, 83 lakh 98 thousand 362 tests have been conducted.

ICMR is continuously scaling up its testing facilities for Covid-19 by giving approval to government and private laboratories. As of now, total one thousand 47 laboratories across India have been given approval to conduct the test for Covid-19. This includes 760 government laboratories and 287 private laboratory chains.

Global coronavirus cases exceed one-crore mark

Global Coronavirus cases have surpassed the one-crore mark, with over five lakh fatalities. According to Johns Hopkins University in the US, more than 500,000 people worldwide have lost their lives as a result of the pandemic. Since the virus emerged in China late last year, there have been more than one crore cases.

Half the world’s cases have been in the United States and Europe, but Covid-19 is now rapidly growing in the Americas. The virus is also affecting South Asia and Africa, where it is not expected to peak until the end of July. Outbreaks are still spreading in many parts of the world, with one million new cases recorded in the last six days.

The US has reported a total of 25 lakh cases and 125,000 deaths with Covid-19 so far – more than any other country.

The country with the second-highest number of recorded cases is Brazil, with a total of 13 lakh, and more than 57 thousand deaths. Russia reported 6 lakh 633 thousand 542 cases and more than nine thousand deaths so far.

Meanwhile, China has imposed a strict lockdown near Beijing to curb a fresh outbreak. Nearly half a million people will be barred from travelling in and out of Anxin county in the province of Hebei.

Govt extends deadline to bid for Air India till August 31

The government has again extended the deadline to bid for Air India by two months till 31st August. This is the third time the deadline has been extended.

The divestment process for the national carrier was initiated on 27th of January this year. Issuing a corrigendum to the Expression of Interest (EoI) for sale of Air India, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management said the deadline has been extended in view of the request received from the interested bidders due to the prevailing situation arising out of COVID-19. 

While issuing the EoI in January, the last date for bids was kept at 17th of March which was later extended till 30th April and further extended to 30th of this month.

Besides, the date for intimation to Qualified Interested Bidders has also been extended till 14th of September, 2020. The government in January this year restarted the divestment process and invited bids for selling 100 per cent equity in the state-owned airline, including Air India’s 100 per cent shareholding in AI Express Limited and 50 per cent stake in Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited. 

In 2018, the government had offered to sell 76 per cent stake in the airline.

Tamil Nadu govt to recommend CBI probe in Tuticorin custodial death case

Tamil Nadu government has decided to trasfer the probe into the death of a father-son duo, alleged victims of police torture in Tuticorin district, to the CBI.

Chief Minister K Palaniswami said the government’s decision will be conveyed to Madras High Court, which seized the matter, and secured its approval before transferring the case to the CBI.

P Jayaraj and his son Fennix, arrested for ‘violating’ lockdown norms over business hours of their cellphone shop, died at a hospital in Kovilpatti on June 23, with their relatives alleging they were severely thrashed at the Sathankulam police station by police personnel earlier. The incident has triggered a national furore, leading to the suspension of four policemen, including two sub- inspectors.

Three terrorists killed in encounter with security forces in J&K’s Anantnag

In the Union Territory of Jammu  and Kashmir, three terrorists were gunned down in an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces at Khul Chohar area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district in the early hours today.

According to police sources, Anantnag Police, 19 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF laid a joint Cordon and Search Operation in the area based on an intelligence input about the presence of terrorists in the area. As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon the security forces who retaliated and eliminated  three terrorists. One AK 47 Rifle and Two pistols have been recovered from their possession.

A senior police officer said that among the three terrorists, two terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit including one district commander and one Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) Commander from Doda district. He further said that Doda has now become totally free of militants once again.

Self reliant India will be a real tribute to our martyrs: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that self-reliant India will be a real tribute to our martyrs. In his Mann Ki Baat programme, Mr Modi said every Indian should resolve to make the country stronger, more capable and self-reliant. The Prime Minister said, no mission can be successfully achieved without people’s participation. Mr Modi said, when people buy local, become vocal for local they play a role in strengthening the country.

The Prime Minister said, the entire country is paying tributes to the valour and bravery of our soldiers who were killed in Ladakh and is indebted to them. He said our brave soldiers proved that they will not let anyone cast an evil eye on the glory and honour of Mother India.

Mr Modi said that the world has noticed India’s commitment and might when it comes to safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said, those who cast an evil eye on Indian soil in Ladakh have got a befitting response. Mr Modi said, India honours the spirit of friendship and it is also capable of giving an appropriate response to any adversary.

Mr Modi underlined the importance of defence sector preparedness. He said, after independence, we should have made efforts in the defence sector, taking advantage of the prior experience, but we did not. The Prime Minister told that today, in the fields of defence and technology, India is taking strides towards self-reliance. 

Finding of 100 Earth Like Exoplanet : Kepler K2 Mission Super Exclusive

The largest haul of confirmed planets obtained since the space observatory transitioned to a different mode of observing includes a planetary system comprising four promising planets that could be rocky.

An international team of astronomers led by the University of Arizona has discovered and confirmed a treasure trove of new worlds using NASA’s Kepler spacecraft on its K2 mission. Among the findings tallying 197 initial planet candidates, scientists have confirmed 104 planets outside our solar system. Among the confirmed is a planetary system comprising four promising planets that could be rocky.

The planets, all between 20 and 50 percent larger than Earth by diameter, are orbiting the M dwarf star K2-72, found 181 light years away in the direction of the Aquarius constellation. The star is less than half the size of the sun and less bright. The planets’ orbital periods range from five and a half to 24 days, and two of them may experience irradiation levels from their star comparable to those on Earth.

Despite their tight orbits — closer than Mercury’s orbit around the sun — the possibility that life could arise on a planet around such a star cannot be ruled out, according to lead author Ian Crossfield, a Sagan Fellow at the University of Arizona’s Lunar and Planetary Laboratory.

The researchers achieved this extraordinary “roundup” of exoplanets by combining data with follow-up observations by earth-based telescopes including the North Gemini telescope and the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii, the Automated Planet Finder of the University of California Observatories, and the Large Binocular Telescope operated by the University of Arizona. The discoveries are published online in the Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series.

Both Kepler and its K2 mission discover new planets by measuring the subtle dip in a star’s brightness caused by a planet passing in front of its star. In its initial mission, Kepler surveyed just one patch of sky in the northern hemisphere, measuring the frequency of planets whose size and temperature might be similar to Earth orbiting stars similar to our sun. In the spacecraft’s extended mission in 2013, it lost its ability to precisely stare at its original target area, but a brilliant fix created a second life for the telescope that is proving scientifically fruitful.

After the fix, Kepler started its K2 mission, which has provided an ecliptic field of view with greater opportunities for Earth-based observatories in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Additionally, the K2 mission is entirely community-driven with all targets proposed for by the scientific community.

Because it covers more of the sky, the K2 mission is capable of observing a larger fraction of cooler, smaller, red-dwarf type stars, and because such stars are much more common in the Milky Way than sun-like stars, nearby stars will predominantly be red dwarfs.

“An analogy would be to say that Kepler performed a demographic study, while the K2 mission focuses on the bright and nearby stars with different types of planets,” said Ian Crossfield. “The K2 mission allows us to increase the number of small, red stars by a factor of 20, significantly increasing the number of astronomical ‘movie stars’ that make the best systems for further study.”

To validate candidate planets identified by K2, the researchers obtained high-resolution images of the planet-hosting stars as well as high-resolution optical spectroscopy data. By dispersing the starlight as through a prism, the spectrographs allowed the researchers to infer the physical properties of a star — such as mass, radius and temperature — from which the properties of any planets orbiting it can be inferred.

These observations represent a natural stepping stone from the K2 mission to NASA’s other upcoming exoplanet missions such as the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite and James Webb Space Telescope.

“This bountiful list of validated exoplanets from the K2 mission highlights the fact that the targeted examination of bright stars and nearby stars along the ecliptic is providing many interesting new planets,” said Steve Howell, project scientist for Kepler and K2 at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California.

“This allows the astronomical community ease of follow-up and characterization, and picks out a few gems for first study by the James Webb Space Telescope, which could perhaps provide information about their atmospheres.”

Starbucks sales account for 57 percent of the total cafe market. Yes, 57 percent, nearly two-thirds of all coffee sold at cafes in the U.S. comes from a Starbucks. But this impressive expansion hasn’t come without growing pains. With more than 14,000 locations in the U.S. alone, Starbucks has spread itself too thin. Having too many stores has led to fewer transactions at individual stores. To compensate, the company has raised prices. But doing this too quickly or too often can drive customers away. So how did this happen? And what’s a coffee giant to do about it? The year is 1970.
Three college friends, Zev Siegl, Jerry Baldwin and Gordon Bowker decide to get into the coffee business. They found a mentor in Alfred Peet, founder of Peet’s Coffee and the man responsible for bringing custom coffee roasting to the U.S. He knew the coffee industry inside and out, especially the gourmet end. He was the most educated coffee guy in the country at that time. So with Peet’s help, the three friends open Starbucks, a coffee bean shop and roastery at Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market in 1971. Peet provided the young entrepreneurs with roasted coffee beans and connected them with coffee brokers until they could set up their own roastery and source their own beans. For the first decade, the founders opened five more locations in Seattle. At this point, contemporary coffee consumers might have noticed a glaring absence: actual coffee drinks. But that’s the thing about the 70s coffee culture: it didn’t really exist outside the home. There were no coffee bars nor was there much of a requirement for espresso-based drinks. You purchased coffee beans and you either took them home as beans or we ground them for you in the store. Nobody expected to urge a beverage at a Starbucks coffee store until after 1980.
