WHEN WE MOVE INTO A RESTAURANTWE FOCUS ON EATING DELICIOUS FOOD BUT WE DOESN’T KNOW ABOUT THE CUTLERY (i.e.FROK and KNIFE) PLACING AFTER MEAL HAS A MEANING.LETS SEE ABOUT THE CUTLERY PLACING STYLES AND ITS MEANING.
1)BREAK :
If you talking to someone or using a restroom you can keep like this . It makes the server to know that you are not finished eating.
2)NEXT PLATE :
If you finished your first meal and ready to eat the second meal or waiting for the second meal to come. You can keep your cutlery this way.
3) excellent:
This way of cutlery placing indicates that you liked and enjoyed the meal very much . It was a way to appreciate the cook and the waiter/server that they are doing great.
4)FINISHED:
Keeping the cutlery parallel to each other means that you are done eating.
5)DIDN’T LIKE:
Inserting knife inside the fork means that you didn’t like the food and the service was bad .
A 13-year-old girl who was introduced through her relatable chapter about teachers was how I remembered Anne Frank before reading her diary. I still remember her phrase, “Teachers are the most unpredictable creatures in this World” because it was the funniest and most truthful statement that I had ever come across in my grade-school life. But it wasn’t until recently, years later, when I decided to give a shot at reading the complete diary of Anne Frank. And let me tell me, it totally wowed me away.
Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1929. She was a Jew and her full name was Annelise Marie Frank. On her 13th birthday, her father Otto Frank gifted her a diary as a birthday gift. However, this diary became a place of solace and the chronicles of German-Nazi events as recorded by Anne Frank when she went into hiding with her family from the German Nazi in ‘Secret Annexe’. (1942- 1944). She died in 1945 after her family was captured by the Nazis and later killed in Holocaust. Her father Otto Frank, who was the last survivor, discovered Anne’s diary and decided to publish it.
Anne’s diary carries her confessions, philosophies, and convictions. The beginning of her diary starts on a casual note as Anne confesses her emotions to her diary ‘Kitty. She talks about her social life, crushes, and school. However, these entries change once she goes into hiding with her family and admits her worries, faults, anxiety, and ideas that she faces in the ‘Secret Annex’. Her thoughts are profound and simple, exploring the tiniest details of life and her longing for the joys and sorrows of ordinary life.
When I first read her complete diary, there were many instances where I was shooked by her maturity and thoughtfulness, and there were moments where I sympathized, related, and longed for life with her. What was more intriguing for me was how the thoughts that I began to have when I was 18 were the thoughts that Anne had at the age of 13. Her keen observations about life and herself made me realize so many things that I was blind to before. There were instances where I found her childish side and there were instances where I saw the grown-up in her. At each stage she made me feel for her and her philosophies.
So here is a short compilation of her profound thoughts that I have picked for you. I hope you can learn and appreciate life and people the way Anne did, and maybe get a bit more curious about this girl and decide to grab her diary to explore more of her life and thoughts.
At such moments I don’t think about all the misery, but about the beauty that still remains. This is where Mother and I differ greatly. Her advice in the face of melancholy is: “Think about all the suffering in the world and be thankful you’re not part of it.” My advice is: “Go outside, to the country, enjoy the sun and all nature has to offer. Go outside and try to recapture the happiness within yourself; think of all the beauty in yourself and in everything around you and be happy.
We aren’t allowed to have any opinions. People can tell you to keep your mouth shut, but it doesn’t stop you from having your own opinion. Even if people are still very young, they shouldn’t be prevented from saying what they think.
How noble and good everyone could be if, every evening before falling asleep, they were to recall to their minds the events of the whole day and consider exactly what has been good and bad. Then without realizing it, you try to improve yourself at the start of each new day.
As long as this exists, this sunshine and this cloudless sky, and as long as I can enjoy it, how can I be sad?
I soothe my conscience now with the thought that it is better for hard words to be on paper than that Mummy should carry them in her heart.
During the lockdown, most of us lost our jobs and most of us got less paid than our actual wages due to the unpredictable economic statics and decrease percentage. So, everyone started to realize one passive income is not sufficient to run our lifestyle, especially in this pandemic situation. We always need two carriers to make money and satisfy our life needs.
One is PROFESSION
Another one is PASSION
A profession is something that you don’t hate but you do that to move on in day-to-day life. And passion is something that you love to do and doing that without any expectations. Nowadays nothing is free except viruses. So, even though if you love your passion as much as you even don’t give a second thought to get money out of it. You have to change that pessimistic mentality. Everything is an opportunity to improve both sides. That’s called Win and win solution. If you are teaching something he is earning knowledge and you are earning your deeds as money. So, how one can begin a start-up business? We are going to look at the most possible works to do without a large sum of investment. But, still get some side income from them. You don’t need to find a location or giant machines or decorating them etc… All you need is essential types of equipment for the idea in your mind and some Magic in your hands to achieve your destination. You can work from your home and sell them on Social Media like amazon, Instagram or you can even create your own website to place your products at one point.
Costume designing:
Costume designing is the best way to make a good profit out of essentials. All you need is an innovative mind, designing knowledge, fabrics, and sewing machine. And some customers must have their own ideas about their idea costumes. So, you can even customize your orders according to your customers. And trust me customizing optional website are countable in India. But people require customizing costume designers. You can do costumes like scarfs, veils, hats, dresses and innovative fashion and eligant costumes. Especially, people will roll over the red carpet for you if you sell them at affordable ranges.
Skincare products Making:
Skincare making is the Bestest economical friendly business. It doesn’t need higher investments but still, you can get a good profit if your products are reasonable and if you have magic in your hands to treat someone’s skin problem.
Nowadays skin problems are common to every human. If getting rid of the skin problems are one side. But, choosing a product to give a try is something everyone confuses. You can do skin products to the people’s according to the type of skin. People will celebrate you once they get visible changes. And people love natural ingredients without side effects keep it noted. There is a huge demand for good home-made products like hair oils, hair wash powders, soaps, cleansers, face packs, serums, etc.,
Some extra amount is something that no one will say no to. We will enroot many passionate start-up businesses like this in our upcoming articles. So, it’s time to switch our passion into action.
As humans, when we get rewarded we tend to repeat the same thing because we want rewards, but when we get failure or pain from something we tend not to perform it for the second time again.
The thing explained above is a universal truth, but hard habits do not reward us that early, it requires time and patience and also a lot of discipline and that’s why very few of us stick with those habits. So the solution here is using rewards for motivation and encouragement so you will repeat the behaviour.
2. NEVER MISS A WORK TWICE
Its normal to miss one day or taking a rest for one day because after all we human beings need rest and we love to rest than to do certain things continuously ,but we shouldn’t miss the work twice.
When you miss continuously for two three days a new habit or to be specific procrastination develops which is highly destructive and can make all efforts that you have put in worthless, so after having a rest day try to come back again quickly.
3. TRACK YOU HABIT
Tracking habit will give you inner peace and satisfaction. And most importantly you will get the much needed motivation to keep continuing the task.
4. REMEMBER WHY YOU STARTED.
We human being easily get diverted. Many times it becomes very difficult to keep us on track and to the habit.
In such cases we should try to imagine the end result of the work, or we should remember why we started that particular work. Make the subconscious mind aware about it. Whenever you get diverted immediately bring the end result in front of your eyes.
Jour de la Bastille, the national day of France is commonly known as Bastille Day in English. Every year on 14th July France celebrates her national day. On this day France celebrates the storming of the Bastille as a national holiday. Bastille was a military fortress and prison. The Bastille symbolized the tyranny of the French monarchy especially King Louis XVI.
France used to celebrate this day very enthusiastically but from 2020 this celebration holds back. As in 2020 for the first time since 1945, authorities have called off the annual military parade along the Champs-Elysees in Paris due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Only 2,000 soldiers – half the usual number were gathered at the Place de la Concorde. In 2020 French Macron tweeted “This July, we will pay tribute to those who have put all their strength, all their skills, all their humanity against the virus.”
This year, France celebrated her national day with a traditional national military parade but firework has been canceled due to the pandemic and concerns over the Delta variant. This year the theme of the parade is “Winning the Future” highlighting “the French’s will to overcome health crisis-related difficulties”. The occasion reveals the army’s anticipation role “thanks to high technology (…) able to prevent crisis and imagine fights from the future”. This year, French President Emmanuel Macron wishes to express “The [Nation’s] affection for the army” and pay tribute to the women and men “who chose to fight for France and shown a sense of commitment and availability like no other”.
Fall of Bastille
The Bastille was built in the 1300s during the Hundred Years’ War against the English. It was designed to protect the eastern entrance to the city of Paris. And later used as a French state prison and a place of detention for important persons during the 17th and 18th centuries by the reign of Louis XVI.
During the time of the American Revolution, America and France worked together. France helped America with the aim to end England’s power in the American colonies. A lot of money was spent in the war and consequences were paid by the people of France suffering from starvation, unemployment, and tensions in the country.
In 1789, there was an economic crisis and tensions in France, the people of France were frustrated and angry with the cruel behavior of kings and elites, and clergies. The Bastille was a symbol of the tyranny of king and queen. The revolutionaries, more than 1000 people most of them were craftsmen and store owners of the Paris marched towards the Bastille on 14th July 1789. They demanded that the military leader (governor de Launay) of Bastille surrender the prison and hand over the gunpowder but he refused and due to this crowd become angry. The revolutionaries managed to enter the courtyard and began to try and break into the main fortress. The soldiers started firing and the fight begins. But an interesting or turning point of this fight was when soldiers joined the side of the crowd. And the military leader surrendered the fort to the revolutionary. Governor de Launay was killed, some prisoners were released (only seven prisoners were inside) and Bastille was razed and mixed in the soil. The storming of Bastille led to a series of events that led to overthrew of King Louis XVI and the French Revolution. The people who took part in the storming of Bastilles were considered heroes during the revolution and took the title “Vainequeurs de la Bastille” meaning “winners of the Bastille”.
The date 14th July represents the unity of French people
The date of the fall of Bastille 14 July is celebrated today as the French National Day. In France, it is called the “The National Celebration” or The Fourteenth July”.
Rainy season is coming up .Everyone is happy about the chill climate but this beautiful season has negative sides too (Lightning ). Now, the effect of lightning is said to be increased than the previous years.so many people died due to lightning .News papers is flooded with the lightning strikes attacks on people. That’s the reason I choose this topic to aware the people .Hope it will help the people who is in need.
HOW TO SAVE YOURSELF FROM LIGHTNING IN OPEN AREA:
If you are caught outside with no safe shelter nearby, the following actions may reduce your risk:
Immediately get off elevated areas such as hills, mountain ridges, or peaks.
Never lie flat on the ground. Crouch down in a ball-like position with your head tucked and hands over your ears so that you are down low with minimal contact with the ground.
Never shelter under an isolated tree.
Never use a cliff or rocky overhang for shelter.
Immediately get out of and away from ponds, lakes, and other bodies of water.
Stay away from objects that conduct electricity (such as barbed wire fences, power lines, or windmills).
Stay away from concrete floors or walls. Lightning can travel through any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR INDOOR PEOPLE:
Being indoors does not automatically protect you from lightning. In fact, about one-third of lightning-strike injuries occur indoors.
Here are some tips to keep safe and reduce your risk of being struck by lightning while indoors.
Avoid contact with water during a thunderstorm. Do not bathe, shower, wash dishes, or have any other contact with water during a thunderstorm. Lightning can travel through plumbing.
Avoid using electronic equipment of all types. Lightning can travel through electrical systems and radio and television reception systems.
Avoid using corded phones. Corded phones are not safe to use during a thunderstorm. However, cordless or cellular phones are safe to use during a storm.
Avoid concrete floors and walls. Do not lie on concrete floors during a thunderstorm. Also, avoid leaning on concrete walls. Lightning can travel through any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring.
According to Arthur Samuel (1959), Machine Learning is a field of study that gives computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed.
Tom Mitchell (1998) Well-posed Learning Problem: A computer program is said to learn from experience E with respect to some task T and some performance measure P, if its performance on T, as measured by P, improves with experience E.
Machine learning algorithms
Supervised learning
Unsupervised learning
Reinforcement learning
Supervised learning
It is machine learning task of at function that maps an input to on output based on example input-output pair. Basically Supervised learning is learning in which We teach or train the machine using data which is well labelled that means Some data is already tagged with correct answer. We pass data, train it and predict output.
Example 1 – House price prediction : In this data set can be given a which contain locality, size of house, age, no. of rooms, price at which it sell. In this are example locality, size of house are independent variables from which we can we predict house price. In this we can take prices of other houses to train our data. We take real prices map them and can predict price.
Example 2 – If we have different kinds of Fruits. To train the machine with all different Fruits one by one like shape of fruit, colour. Since machine has already learned from previous data this time it will classify fruit with its colour and shape and give output.
supervised learning allows collecting data and produce data output from previous experience.
It helps to solve various types of real world computation problems.
Unsupervised learning:
It is the training of machine using information that is neither classified nor labeled and allowing the algorithm to act on that without guidance. In this past data is pointless and we need to club similar data together. There is no way to measure similarity before we run the program. It is less accurate.
Example 1 – Google news : In google news, clustering where they use to club similar types of news together. They find some keywords, club similar news and show it on feed.
Example 2 – Feature selection : Assume that we want to predict how capable an applicant is of repaying a loan from the perspective of a bank now, we need to help the bank set up machine learning system so that each loan given to applicant who can repay the loan. So by gathering the Information about applicants average monthly income, debt credit & history we can predict this
Reinforcement learning
It means to establish & encourage a pattern of behavior. It is area of machine learning concerned with how software agent ought to take actions in an environment in order to maximize the notion of cumulative reward.
Example 1 – Chess game : In chess game there are different types of pieces which can move differently. The next move will depend om opponent move or your previous. It is trial and error and decision is dependent.
Example 2 – Web system configuration : there are so many parameters in web system and the process of tuning the parameters requires a skilled operator. This can be automated by using reinforcement machine learning technique to learn from different trial & error phases.
Artificial Intelligence is the intelligence exhibited by machines based on the premise that intelligence is not ‘real’ or human’. It mimics cognitive functions exhibited by humans such as learning and problem-solving.

-Mark Butler
Facial recognition: Facial recognition is a biometric technology used to identify human faces and can be used for security purposes.
Example: Snapchat
Snapchat differentiates between images of objects, pets, sports, and food. It suggests relevant borders and stickers. Identifies your location and suggests location-based filters.
Snapchat filters use Machine Learning and image classification techniques called Convolution Neural Networks(CNN).
TO start with the topic first of all its necessary to know basic identities:-
a + b whole square is what? I.e a square +2ab+ b square. Similarly there are many more. TO begin with our basic topic we will try some questions and their approaches.
Q1. IF x +1/x = 4 then what is x2 +1/x2
So guys we are given value of x + 1/x =4. Now simply square both sides. You will get x2 + 2 + 1/x2 as 16. Now if you take to on RHS side it will be simply 16-2 i.e 14. Hence 14 is your answer. So dear reader you can follow a shortcut to solve orally that 4 square minus 2. I.e same 16-2 . Similarly if you have 9 instead of 4 in the question the answer would be 81-2 =79.
If now instead of this you need to find value of x4 +1/x4 . Then how would you solve. Just take out value of earlier one and square it and minus. For eg in first question as 14 was our answer subtract 2 from it and its your new answer .
Q2. If now in first question you need to find x3 +1/x3 (note its cube not three)
So you can use a shortcut i.e. p3 -3p. I.e. 4 cube -4×3 which will be 64-12=52.
Q3. If x-1/x =p then x3-1/x3 will be
Its easy just in above formula replace minus sign by plus . p3+3p.
Q4. If in first question I need to find x5+1/x5 then.
Here you need to know just the basic formula (xa )b = xa+b . Dear reader we now that 2+3=5 . So find the value in example 1 and 2. I.e 14 and 52 now multiply both of them and minus with value in question. 728-4=724.
Olympiad’s are competitive exams conducted all across the world to compare students performance of similar educational levels. These Olympiads are helpful for children to know about their capabilities .we are living in a world where we need to be exceptionally good at things we are doing , and for that confidence and creative skills are the two pillars. These Olympiads are doing the same thing , they are making you ready to face the world with your unbelievable ideas and thoughts . The Olympiad exams are conducted both in National and International wise . These are alot based on your educational aspects and they conduct these exams based on your age . so, it is easy for you to participate and understand the levels given in the exams . Another important point to be noted is that :the participants of lower grades can participate at any higher level they want to ,if they are selected for that . For this the participant need to prove themselves by submitting any work they did or by proving your level by the questions asked by them. But any higher grade participate is not permitted to participate in the exams held for lower grade participants .
Olympiad exam builds self-confidence in children ,gives the power to tackle more such challenges in the best way possible .
These exams encourage self-learning that goes a long way in students life .It enables to check their progress on a timely basis.
Olympiad exams require students to think creatively .Instead of taking reviews from others ,they will be habituated to see things differently and correct their lacks and to become a successful person in life.

Online interviews are now becoming the standard as businesses continue to adapt to grow Due to the extreme extraordinary changes brought about by the COVID-19 epidemic, employers have turned to online interviewing technologies and video conferencing programs like as Zoom, Google Meet, and Skype, among many others, to assess potential employees in a timely and cost-effective fashion.
Appearing for an online interview might be intimidating for several prospective candidates, particularly first-timers. As a result, I’ve compiled a list of some suggestions that will not only enable you put your best foot forward but will also put you on the road to success, even though you might be thousands of miles away.
1. Before you begin, check your devices and wifi service
Remember to test your wifi connection a few hours before your virtual interview to confirm that it is stable. Have such a PC that satisfies all of the technical requirements. Test your webcam, audio, and headset well before the interview as well.A bad internet service results in delayed videos and distorted audio, which could become a deal breaker. As a result, make all required preparations to guarantee that the internet can provide high-quality video.
2. Set the tone and keep interruptions to a minimum
If you struggle with your laptop or alter your posture throughout the interview, the company will have reasons to question your candidacy since you may appear unprepared. To prevent making such an impression, plan ahead of time by selecting a location with adequate illumination. A bare wall in the background will assist you in being the main focus of the dialogue.
Next, aim your camera at or somewhat around eye level for the best possible eye contact. If you don’t have a laptop stand, then set it on top of a stack of books. To prevent seeming washed out, keep the light in front of you. Reduce clutter from the area and clean it up to make it appear more orderly.
3. Dress professionally
Because a virtual interview doesn’t really imply that it is not genuine, be dressed as you might for an in-person interview. Formal wear demonstrates your seriousness about the job and aids in the establishment of a positive connection with your recruiter. Choose professional or business casual clothes, such as button-down shirts and blazers. Furthermore, avoid any bright colours or distracting designs to prevent drawing your interviewer’s focus away from you.
4. Switch off or silence your phone’s notifications
The pre-interview protocol requires (and it should go without saying) that you should switch off your phone alerts before going online. Log out of any social media or messaging platforms that could send notifications to the laptop. Websites with auto-play music or video should be closed.
Lock your windows to block out any sirens or traffic horns. Switch off the television. Well before the online interview, evaluate your surroundings and eliminate any possible interruptions. But, if they occur, don’t be alarmed; instead, accept them with grace.
5. Keep your body language professional
You could express your enthusiasm and confidence via nonverbal communication, such as body language. Retain good body position and establish good eye contact to appear attentive.
Begin with the virtual greeting – say hello and face into the webcam to smile and nod confidently and warmly. According to research, interviewers are much more likely to recall what a prospect said if they keep eye contact throughout the interview. Similarly, whenever the individual has completed speaking, you can use a visual indication such as nodding to indicate that you understood them.
6. Also have backup plan in hand
Whenever a technical error occurs during a video conference, everyone can see. Oftentimes, even after doing all that was possible, a connectivity problem might still arise. As a result, have a fallback option ready just in case the video software fails or the wifi goes down. If the internet goes down on you, you may ask to do a classic telephone interview. Furthermore, if you face technical difficulties such as a stuck video or echoing audio, you could also politely request the interviewer to repeat anything you might have missed.
7. Keep in touch
A timely follow-up might allow you to market yourself and discuss topics you may have missed during the interview. It’s a good gesture to send a brief follow-up email to the recruiter, reinforcing your enthusiasm by thanking them for their time.
Start ups are different from large established companies .So in order to thrive in technological world the corporate culture must be changed from traditional mind set to agile mind set. So, in order to change the traditional cultures of start ups they must need a perfect team which converts the entrepreneurial ideas into reality. Corporate culture has been changing extensively from the last two decades on wards with its instinctive technology, salary package and benefit factors. In todays competitive situations every startup or an established company must have a team with agile mindset.
WHAT IS AN AGILE MINDSET?
The Agile Mindset is a movement away from traditional, which avoids the bureaucratic leadership like which can involve office politics and a “whoever is loudest is right” mentality. Instead, the agile mindset keeps ego aside from the teams and focus on what is right, instead of who is right. This agile methodology was emerged in 2001 for the development of software practices by providing more reliable workspaces and improved management but now it is a globally embraced framework and mindset which enables business to be better in almost every field with its viability of vision.
THE CHARACTERISTICS OF AGILE MINDSET ARE AS FOLLOWS:
PRINCIPLES OF VISION TO VIABILITY FOR AN AGILE TEAM ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Keeping the above picturized principles in mind which can help a start up to build a perfect team to become more open-minded to the agile mindset approach. These are the core values which helps to nurture more efficiency in teamwork. This methodology can be used for our personal development also, in order to determine the clear goals or achievements that we want to reach. Now, let’s have an idea about ” How to build an agile team ? “
THE SEVEN MAJOR VISIONARIES TO BUILD AN AGILE TEAM IS AS FOLLOWS:
1 ATTRACT AWSOME TALENT:Try to choose every individual with complementary skills who share the excitement for the company vision. So that they give their best for growth of the company.
2 CREATE FOCUSED & ALIGNED TEAMS: Companies should create the teams which concentrate on the key initiatives to meet the desired goals and achievements of the company.
3 CREATE A LEARNING ORGANISATION: The team must posses the flexibility to manage or make some adjustments to the plan to avoid un necessary risks.
4 BUILD A COHESIVE TEAM: Building a cohesive team adds a marks to the company because this type of team celebrates the collective win over the individual gain and learns from the failure.
5 BUILD A TEAM TO EMBRACE THE DIFFICULT DECISIONS: The team must address the mistakes that has been done previously or during the running project and should change them according to needs of project growth.
6 Foster a culture into the team which can embrace flexibility and also to thrive in good time or bad time.
7 Give an allow for both GEN Y and GEN Z categories in order to tap the high performance energy and fresh thinking ability.
Finally, founders or HR’s of the start ups must cross check all the abilities in hiring a person. Try to maintain some techniques while hiring a person i.e give priority to the aptitude over the experience because fresh thinking always enhances better results and look for the passion in the candidate who want’s to join in the company. Always remember that hiring persons from different cultures can give a strong grip to the foundation of a start up because diversity creates better decisions and the most important thing in hiring process is constantly polishing the way of hiring. Try to look for the culture “FIT” and always be recruiting so that we can form the best teams than the previous once which helps in the growth of the company.
‘Water is a driving force of all nature’- Leonardo Da Vincci.
A children holding a poster with the request SAVE WATER is actually sending across a severe warning……………
We are headed for a water crisis and a very serious one at that. Do you really think it is an issue we can dare to neglect? I do not think so.Water is very essential for all life forms to survive and grow. For any personal, commercial, industrial, or any other use the water is required.Life without water is impossible. Also, the drinkable water is quite low and if we continue to wastewater at the speed we do today, the day is not far when we will have to fight for water. But still, let me ask you one question, are we actually working in the direction of saving water? The rightful answer would be no.
Water management & conservation of resources:
The problem with these issues (water management and conservation of resources) is that there are numerous parties with vested interests that tend to play down these serious threats staring us in the face in a not so distant a future. While most authorities that are respected are unanimous in their conclusion of global warming as a serious threat, there are others who look upon the very phenomenon of global warming as a typical case of environmental Cassandras trying to hog the limelight. If you have to seriously address issues like global warming or water crisis, one leading to the other, corporate houses which depend on numerous factories that create all the filth shall have to take steps that would seriously create a big dent in their pockets. No corporate house would be eager to do this.
Therefore, they purposely overlook the fact that the sources of fresh water are limited. If you are so concerned with your immediate profit that you tend to overlook the disastrous results in the long run for all life on this earth, you are no less than plain stupid! The extent to which the corporate sector can be callous can be clearly understood from the following example:-
A proposal by South India Bottling Company Private Limited (SIBCL), a Coca-Cola franchisee, to set up a 280 million (US $ 6,500,000) soft -drinks unit in Gangaikondan village of Tirunelveli district in southern Tamil Nadu, has run into trouble. Many local residents, political parties and environmentalists have raised concerns that the water-intensive plant will deplete and contaminate groundwater and draw from Tamiraparani River, that cannot fully meet even drinking water and agricultural needs of local communities. Research by the India Resource Centre revealed a number of discrepancies and misinformation in SIBCL’s public statements regarding its water usage and daily production. We can also remember in this context that the world leaders really fight it out when something as dangerous as poisonous gas emissions bave to be curtailed. Indeed, how myopic can people be!
However, blaming corporates and factories would not be a complete part of the solution. There is the other side of the picture too. A 2006 United Nations report focuses on issues of governance as the core of the water crisis, saying There is enough water for everyone’ and “Water insufficiency is often due to mismanagement, corruption, lack of appropriate institutions, bureaucratic inertia and a shortage of investment in both human capacity and physical infrastructure.” Official data also shows a clear correlation between access to safe water and GDP per capita.
While the observation made by the UN is true, the role of climate change in aggravating a terrible water crisis around the globe is also An Inconvenient Truth as Al Gore calls it. According to a UN climate report, the Himalayan glaciers that are the sources of Asia’s biggest rivers-Ganga, Indus, Brahmaputra, Yangtze, Mekong, Salween and Yellow-could disappear by 2035 as temperatures rise. Approximately 2.4 billion people live in the drainage basin of the Himalayan Rivers. India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar could experience floods followed by droughts in coming decades. In India alone, the Ganga provides water for drinking and farming for more than 500 million people. The west coast of North America, which gets much of its water from glaciers in mountain ranges such as the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada, would also be affected.
What would happen if this wastage of water is allowed to continue? News reports about the Gangotri Glacier receding have become fairly common. Can you imagine India without the Ganga? Are we going to silently bear with the progressive destruction of the most precious resource, and leave our future generations to face some bloody war for the control of water resources?
