Warren Buffet is an American buisnessman, investor and philantrophist. He was born on 30th August 1930 in Nebraska. He developed an interest in the business world and investing at an early age including in the stock market. He is the current CEO and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, a very successful holding company. They hold shares of other companies to form a corporate group. Buffet is considered one of the most successful investors today with a net worth of over $100 billion. He is the 9th richest man in the world.
Buffett started his education at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania before moving back to go to the University of Nebraska, where he received an undergraduate degree in business administration. Buffett later went to the Columbia Business School where he earned his graduate degree in economics. He began his career as an investment salesman in the early 1950s and formed Buffett Associates in 1956. Less than 10 years later, in 1965, he was in control of Berkshire Hathaway. Recently, Buffett began collaborating with Jeff Bezos and Jamie Dimon to develop a new healthcare company focused on employee healthcare.
Buffett follows the Benjamin Graham school of value investing. Value investors look for securities with prices that are unjustifiably low based on their intrinsic worth. There isn’t a universally accepted way to determine intrinsic worth, but it’s most often estimated by analyzing a company’s fundamentals. Like bargain hunters, the value investor searches for stocks believed to be undervalued by the market, or stocks that are valuable but not recognized by the majority of other buyers. He’s not really concerned with the activities of the stock market at all. Rather, he looks at each company as a whole, so he chooses stocks solely based on their overall potential as a company. Holding these stocks as a long-term play, Buffett doesn’t seek capital gain, but ownership in quality companies extremely capable of generating earnings. He isn’t concerned with whether the market will eventually recognize its worth when he invests. He is concerned with how well that company can make money as a business.
Before investing Buffet analyses the company’s performance, its debt, profit margins and whether its a public company. The answers to these questions help him make his investing decision. Buffett’s investing style is like the shopping style of a bargain hunter. It reflects a practical, down-to-earth attitude. Buffett maintains this attitude outside of work too. He doesn’t live in a huge house, he doesn’t collect cars and generally does not live a lavish life. This is what made him so successful.
India is a country which serves liberty and sovereignty too all. We say that we are free and have the freedom to do anything whatever we wish, the only thing which we should keep on our mind is the purpose and result should be welfare of all or self. In August 15th, 1947 we became citizen of free democratic as well as a republic nation. But the question which arises is “are we completely free?” “The word freedom is meant for females too or it was served only for the male members of our country?” Indian women are the one who are always consider inferior than man and are supposed to be inside the house with getting indulge in all household works. Women are still questioned when they work overnight. It may be a private place or a public one, whether its home or office, the one who is certainly humiliated as well as misbehaved is the women. Report suggests that India is the most dangerous place for women across the world.
Killing the infant in the mother’s womb to surviving a motionless life after the acid attack, the only person suffers is the women of our society. It can be a rape, gang rape, acid attack, female foeticide, dowry death, abandonment, mob lynching, and harassing mentally or physically, these all problems are tolerated by the single women. And after all these suffering our patriarchal society think they are weak and are meant to be under the foot of men. The crime that happened at Delhi on 16th December, 2012 where a brave girl Nirbhaya was brutally raped. This incident left everyone stunned and traumatized that how such vicious act could be done by a human beings like us. Laxmi Agarwal, she was fighter and a winner but who can forget that how mercilessly she became the victim of acid attack just because she refused the proposal of a man. Acid attacks are still continuing. Irom Sharmila a victim of acid attack is eating through her nose so that she could stay alive. And yet we celebrate Independence Day, are we free in the true sense? And how free the Constitution makes the women? We think that being women is too easy but this is not true if you are Indian women because here in our secular country in every 20minutes a female is raped. In the same year when Nirbhaya was raped the NCRB report suggest that in that year more than 68 girls are raped each day. The number of rape cases as well as other crimes are rapidly increasing and after all these we talk about women empowerment and equality.
Justice should be served to all whether she is a female or male. Not all people are same but maximum have a cruel heart. Effective steps are needed to be taken to stop such merciless offense. Our government should make strict laws and regulation. If such crimes are done then immediate and strict action need to be taken so that the fear is always there in the mind of the people. It’s high time and we need to take strict steps regarding such rising problems otherwise the situation will become worse in the upcoming generation.
Have u ever heard of bad bank? Well, in this article we will know about what bad bank is and how is it taking shape in India.
So to start over, A bad bank is a financial entity that was formed to purchase the risky loans and other illiquid assets of another financial institution. The company with many nonperforming assets will sell them to the bad bank at market value. The goal of Bad Bank is to bring financial stability to the banking industry. It would store bad loans for public sector banks, which will be offered to investors at a discount which will eventually assist banks in cleaning up their balance sheets.
Recently, Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, has announced the establishment of a bad bank in the nation. Sitharaman said in her budget address that an Asset Reconstruction Company Limited and an Asset Management Company will be established to manage the bad debt of public sector banks such as the State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, and others.
However, Experts were perplexed by this because IBC known as insolvency and bankruptcy code was considered to be pretty efficient in settling problematic debts. But the government was concerned about delays and low asset realization under the IBC. Furthermore, the loans were offered at steep discounts. The assets were liquidated in some circumstances. There were also issues regarding the public sector bank’s(PSB) lack of cooperation.
So, to consolidate and take over the current stressed debt, an ARC and AMC will be established. It will then manage and sell the assets to Alternative Investment Funds and other potential buyers in order to realize their full worth. To put it another way, it will store bad loans for public sector banks, which will subsequently be sold to investors at a lower cost which will aid in the cleaning up of the balance sheet and will eventually lessen the financial burden of future capital requirements. So, India’s bad bank is now taking form. With the formation of the National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd, the much-anticipated wait for the “Bad Bank” came to an end.
Given its size and development potential, the Indian economy will experience a steady supply of distressed assets. When the one-time loan arrangement finishes, Covid-19 will be a source of concern for many businesses. For public sector banks, the existing portfolio of problematic loans is a major source of concern. As of September 2020, the banking system’s total gross nonperforming assets (NPAs) accounted for 7.5% of the entire loan book.
This is anticipated to rise to 13.5 percent by March-September this year, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Moreover, Many people believe that running a bad bank successfully necessitates a variety of factors. One, it must be for a defined purpose and include a time limit. For instance, Sweden AMC, supported by the government, recovered over 90% of bad loans in six years in the early 1990s. However, the Chinese AMC, which is supported by the government, failed to deliver. Now it’s up to NARCL, private ARCs, and IBC to preserve the value of stressed assets by restructuring and resolving them in a timely manner.
With many states planning to start physical classes only for high school students, managements and teachers said that it is much more important to resume physical classes for primary students, as many of them unable to follow virtual classes.
They said that offline classes should be conducted at least two days a week for primary students. “Even as per ICMR, the impact of Covid-19 on children under the age group of 10 is much less when compared with elder children and adults. Why not start physical classes for them as well,” V Amarnath, director.
“These students are unable to concentrate, their confidence is low and communication skills have been impacted,” he said, adding that holistic development of a child has been impacted overall. Teachers said that physical classes should be resumed for all children in August within a gap of 10-15 days and all students should get to attend offline classes on alternate days.
“Now, almost all teachers are vaccinated. The same is the case with parents. So the risk of children spreading Covid seems to be comparatively lower. However, the state should provide sanitation, medical staff and allocate sufficient budget to follow Covid protocols in schools. By following all norms, physical classes should be started,” said M Ravinder, a government teacher, adding students are already facing memory and conceptual loss.
Parents agreed that it is a matter of urgency to resume physical classes, although they said that the same cannot be done in a haste.
The government should form a committee and study the impact of reopening of schools. They need to communicate with parents, explain what to expect and give an assurance about their children and family members’ safety.
An Epic is a long narrative in verse on a great and serious subject related in an elevated style. An epic tells a generally well-known story and is centered around a heroine or semi-divine figure whose actions depend on the faith or a tribe, a nation are a human race.
types of epics
Historically, there have been two types of epics the primitive a big for the epic of growth, and epic of art all literary epic.
The main traits of an epic are the following:
The subject matter of an epic is heroine ok or mythical kind full stop the hero is a figure of national or even cosmic importance as an Achilles in Homer’s Iliad, Aeneas in Virgil’s Aenid, Adam or Christ in Milton Paradise Lost and Rama in Ramayana.
The setting of an epic is vast and comprises several worlds. In Odyssey, the whole known word is the scene of action of Ulysses. In Virgil’s Aeneid and Dante’s Divine comedy, Earth, heaven, and hell are the scenes of action. In paradise lost also the scene of action has cosmic dimensions embracing Earth, heaven, and hell.
The action in an epic involves superhuman deeds such as the deeds of Achilles or the journey of Ulysses. Paradise Lost presents The War and heaven, Satan’s journey through chaos, and his audacious attempts to outwit God by corrupting mankind. The Ramayana presents several wars and the prolonged wanderings of the hero.
The action of an epic is often controlled by supernatural agents. Gods and Goddesses mingle with the humans and fight on both sides. In Homer, the Olympian gods participate in all activities and Paradise Lost devils, Angels, and God himself are involved.
The Epic contains several thrilling episodes like battles, duals, wanderings, ordeals, and the like.
In most Epics, there is a moral purpose. The hero represents a cause and the victory of good over evil is ensured. Sometimes characters themselves are personifications of good or evil.
In the narration of an epic, certain conventions are followed. It is narrated in an ornate, ceremonial, and grand style that is deliberately distanced from ordinary speech. Epic similes, figures of speech, classical allusions and references, and repetitions are used. The characters are given set speeches. The narration usually begins with an invocation to the muse or a guiding Spirit. Both ‘Aenid’ and Paradise Lost begin with such invocations. Usually, the narrative starts in the middle of the story as in Paradise Lost which begins with the fallen angels gathering their Forces for revenge. Only later does Milton tell tells us what happened before the Fall.
The Epic is usually divided into twelve books through Iliad and Odyssey have 24 books each. Spencer’s fairy Queen was planned in 12 book’s and Milton’s Paradise Lost also has 12 books.
Magazines and advertising have long been criticized for upholding dangerously unrealistic standards of success and beauty, but at least it’s acknowledged that they are idealized. The models wearing Size 0 clothing are just that: models. And even they are made-up, retouched, and photoshopped. These days, however, the impossible standards are set much closer to home, not by celebrities and models but by classmates and friends. With social media, teens can curate their lives, and the resulting feeds read like highlight reels, showing only the best and most enviable moments while concealing efforts, struggles, and the merely ordinary aspects of day-to-day life. And there’s evidence that those images are causing distress for many kids. Donna Wick, EdD, founder of Mind-to-Mind Parenting, says that for teenagers the combined weight of vulnerability, the need for validation, and a desire to compare themselves with peers forms what she describes as a “perfect storm of self-doubt.” She’s so thin. Her grades are perfect. What a happy couple. I’ll never be that cool, that skinny, that lucky, that successful.
Struggling to stay afloat
The fallout from these unrealistic standards becomes more dangerous once kids reach college, where they face higher stakes, harder work, and a largely parent-free environment. The pressure to look perfect to impress new peers, not to speak of friends and family back home, can be even greater. After a recent spate of college suicides, researchers at Stanford University coined the phrase “duck syndrome.” The term refers to the way a duck appears to glide effortlessly across a pond while below the surface its feet work frantically, invisibly struggling to stay afloat. Several students who have died had projected a perfect image on social media—their feeds packed with inspirational quotes and filtered images showing attractive, happy kids who seemed to excel with minimal effort. But behind the digital curtain they were struggling emotionally.
Hiding imperfection
For kids experiencing anxiety or depression, carefully edited feeds can act as a smoke screen, masking serious issues behind pretend perfection and making it harder for parents or friends to see that they need help. “It’s important to remember that just posting edited pictures online or pretending your life is a little more glamorous than it is is not in itself a problem,” says Jill Emanuele, PhD, a clinical psychologist at the Child Mind Institute. “Social media alone is unlikely to be at the heart of the issue, but it can make a difficult situation even harder.” Teens who have created idealized online personas may feel frustrated and depressed at the gap between who they pretend to be online and who they truly are. “If you practice being a false self eight hours a day, it gets harder to accept the less-than-perfect being you really are,” says Dr. Wick, “and as we all know there’s no harsher judge of a kid than herself.”
Other people’s perfection
Another, more prevalent problem, says Dr. Emanuele, is that for some teens their social feeds can become fuel for negative feelings they have about themselves. Kids struggling with self-doubt read into their friends’ images what they feel they are lacking. “Kids view social media through the lens of their own lives,” says Dr. Emanuele. “If they’re struggling to stay on top of things or suffering from low self-esteem, they’re more likely to interpret images of peers having fun as confirmation that they’re doing badly compared to their friends.”
Social media and teenagers: How to help
Take social media seriously. Don’t underestimate the role social media plays in the lives of teenagers, warns Dr. Wick. “The power of a visual image is so strong. It’s disorienting.” Many teens, she says, never knew a world where social media didn’t exist, and for them the things that happen online—slights, break-ups, likes, or negative comments—are very real. When you talk about social media make sure you’re really listening and be careful not to dismiss or minimize your teen’s experiences.
Encourage them to think outside the (crop) box. When you talk to your child about social media, encourage her to explore it in a more critical way. A great way to start is to try asking her what she thinks has been cropped or edited out of her friends’ “perfect” pictures and why. That can lead to larger questions. Do you think your friends are really the people they appear to be online? Are you? What’s the purpose of posting a photo? What is it about getting “likes” that feels good? Does looking at social media affect your mood?
Model a healthy response to failure. “Kids have to get the message that it is okay to fail,” says Dr. Wick. “And not only that it’s okay to fail, but that showing it is okay, too.” If parents hide their own failures, kids are less likely to be okay with anything less than success. “When things don’t work out as you’d planned or a project goes awry, show your child how to accept it with grace,” she adds. “Let kids know that failure is part of how we learn to succeed, that it’s nothing to be ashamed of and let them see you pick yourself up and try again.”
Praise (and show) effort. “Effort is something to be proud of,” says Dr. Wick. “It can’t be said enough.” Parents should let kids know that showing their work is something to be praised, not hidden. When your child has worked hard on something, praise her efforts no matter what the outcome. It’s also helpful to examine how comfortable you are showing your own efforts, especially those that don’t end in success. Being proud and open about your own work sets a powerful example for your child.
Go on a “social holiday.” If you’re worried that your child is getting too wrapped up in social media, try taking a social holiday. “This means everyone,” says Dr. Wick. If you’re asking your child to take a break, practice what you preach and pledge to stay off media as well. It can be every bit as hard for parents to unplug as kids.”
Trust people, not pictures. Finally, don’t rely on social media to let you know how your child is really doing. She may post smiling selfies all day long, but if she seems unhappy or sounds unhappy on the phone, don’t let it go. Make sure she knows it’s safe to talk to you by encouraging her to share her feelings and supporting her when she does. Reassure her that you’re not disappointed, and let her know you’re proud of her for reaching out. “I’m so glad you called. It sounds like you’re feeling really overwhelmed, I’m here and I love you. Let’s talk this through together.”

Modern life has become more chaotic and busy. This has led to the rise of yoga. Yoga provides many other mental and physical benefits. Some of these extend to the kitchen table.
There are many types of yoga, such as Hatha. It is a type of yoga that focuses on breathing exercises and a series of asanas. The goal is to get as much done as possible while not feeling overwhelmed. This practice is focused on cultivating a calm and accepting mind and body. This activity helps develop awareness of the body’s abilities. It’s not about physical appearance. Instead of mirrors, yoga studios use mirrors to help people focus their attention on the body instead of the people around them. This allows them to focus on their breathing and awareness instead of the image of their bodies.
According to the Harvard Medical School, focusing on the present moment can improve a person’s mental health. It can also help them manage stress and improve their physical well-being. Mindful eating is a nonjudgmental approach to addressing the physical and emotional aspects of eating.
They developed a questionnaire to measure mindful eating using these behaviors:
Eating even when full (disinhibition)
Being aware of how food looks, tastes and smells
Eating in response to environmental cues, such as the sight or smell of food
Eating when sad or stressed (emotional eating)
Eating when distracted by other things
People who practiced yoga were more likely to eat well according to their eating scores. The study also found that the amount of practice they performed was linked to the better eating habits. People who practice yoga and eat mindfully are more aware of their bodies’ natural cues when it comes to hunger. Those who practiced yoga for at least four years had a lower BMI than those who did not.
Although yoga is known to improve a person’s mental health, it can also improve their physical fitness. For the study, researchers focused on the effects of yoga on a group of individuals who were not yet active. After eight weeks, they experienced greater flexibility and muscle strength. Several studies have shown that yoga can lower blood pressure and improve heart health. It’s believed that this practice helps the body maintain its balance and senses the pressure in the body. A study found that regular yoga practice can improve the lipid profile of patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease. It can also lower blood sugar levels and improve overall health.
Before you start a new exercise program, be sure to check with your doctor.
Researchers are also studying if yoga can help people with depression and arthritis, and improve survival from cancer.

Mumbai is facing a shortage of water with a third of its residents not having drinking water as per a recent report. This comes in heels with the news of massive water-logging across the city and flood-like situations. This is reminiscent of the Chennai Water Crisis in 2019 when a flood had hit the city in 2018 and in May 2019, the city declared a zero-water day – no water left in any of its reservoirs. As per statistics, in the coastal city with a medium size river flowing right through it (the famed Anna University is actually partially built on lands claimed from the river), 60% of its population relies on bottled water for drinking all year long. Was this always the case? History suggests no. But it has been so for about a decade now. This is not very shocking given that Mawsynram, the place with the highest recorded average rainfall on the planet also faces water shortage during summers!!!
A lot of rain, and yet no water to drink
Yemen – the poorest of Arab nations and a region marred by civil war and international interference for more than a decade now might also have the root of its civil war as water shortage. Let us understand that the Yemeni factions are the Houthis, the republicans – with both basically supporting their tribal interests – and a swinging group of Saudi-led forces. Records suggest that there existed blood feud between villages just because a village constructed a well very close to that of the other village. As per data, Yemen has the least water availability per capita on the planet, even inviting statements like – if water were to get exhausted on Earth, this process would begin in Yemen. This is odd, given the fact that Dubai is a sprawling metropolis situated in the same Saudi desert.
Yemen is the most water depreciated nation on the planet.
The situation is actually grim in many more places – Northern India – a land abundant with rivers and lakes – most of them, technically all of them polluted beyond potability. Go to Africa and the nations with rainforests and rivers are dry.
What is the cause then? We often hear of climate change. A reader would agree about the reality of climate change but would certainly not let go of the sheer amount of mismanagement involved in the handling of water resources. Governments all over the world have tried in their own way to clean water bodies – the money ending up in their coffers owing to balant corruption. In India, for instance, the Save Ganges Movement or ‘Ganga bachao abhiyaan’ in the vernacular has been a project spanning over three decades and costing lakhs of crores – the best part – to no result. NGOs and villagers have often revived water bodies across the planet showing the importance of public participation in government or local initiatives. But, the people aren’t really very concerned about this issue it seems. It might find itself in discussions during summers or in newspapers – but people refuse to consider it as a problem as grim as climate change. No one can imagine the change Chennai saw with themselves.
Some 50 years ago, the British left the Palestinian territories in a bitter tussle between the Jewish and the Arabic groups. The Empire had similar history in the Indian subcontinent. The tensions were partly fueled at the end of the empire – in the Indian subcontinent, it was the promise of an Islamic nation to the Muslims of the Raj; in Palestinian Mandate region, it was the bias of British army against the Arabs and its inability to stop the Jewish immigration – and at the end, the Empire simply left the factions to fend for themselves.
Fast forward a couple of decades. Iraq was invaded by the US and between Iraq and Israel was the obvious tussle between USSR and USA – leading to the formation of many small and conflicting regions and factions supporting free market democracy or communism. The fall of the USSR left a vacuum China quickly filled up. However, the withdrawal of the US forces from Iraq did not result in the rise of a stable power, but rather it escalated tensions and led to the creation and establishment of the alleged ISIS caliphate.
In fact, even in Afghanistan, the chief cause of the crisis was the cold war that led to the Soviet Afghan war and an eventual push of the Mujahideen forces that ultimately became the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. The US invaded Afghanistan in 2001 and is now leaving the country without any conclusive results – paving way to yet another possible and quite imminent crisis.
The Kosovo crisis and the NATO invasion of Libya in 2011 also left the said regions with a still ongoing power struggle that has led to massive humanitarian crisis there. Libya allegedly has open markets for slave trading today. Not to forget that the infamous Boko Haram held large swaths of land during the time ISIS was at the pinnacle of its power.
These are not the only examples of power vacuums. But the ones that were created in the name of freedom, democracy and liberty – but led to crisis that no one talks of any more.
What do you think about the ways in which contemporary history has played out? Could there be better ways? Can there be steps that can still be taken for the better?
Modern history has been about the establishment of power vacuums resulting in some really dangerous results.
