India pledges USD 10 million to UNRWA over next two years

India has announced contributing 10 million US dollar to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) over the coming two years.

Addressing an Extraordinary Virtual Ministerial Pledging Conference for UNRWA, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said yesterday that capacity enhancement through training and building durable institutions is a major plank of our developmental assistance to Palestine.

Asserting that UNRWA needs continued support, Mr Muraleedharan said when certain countries withdrew funding, India had stepped up its annual pledge from  1.25 million US dollar to 5 million US dollar in 2018. He said, for this year, India has  already disbursed  two million dollar  and will soon be remitting the balance three million dollar. He said, India provides 250 annual scholarships to Palestinian youth and officials, apart from regular customised training programmes, and our current project grant is around 72 million dollar. He said, as a steadfast supporter of the Palestinian cause, India deeply appreciates the generous support and untiring work of host countries, donors and UNRWA to ensure millions of our Palestinian brothers and sisters displaced from their homeland lead a life of dignity.

He said, the Covid-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the globe, stretching governments’ resources to address healthcare and socio-economic needs of their own people, and constraining capacities to assist others. He said, but victory over this unprecedented crisis demands collective and concerted action. He said, therefore, despite a surge in domestic demand for medical supplies amidst rising Covid cases, India  is assisting countries in need of critical, life saving drugs. He said, India is  sending a medical shipment to Palestine next week.

Govt to reduce staff strength of Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi by 50 pct

Indian government has decided to reduce the staff strength of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi by 50 per cent. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the behaviour of Pakistan and its officials is not in conformity with the Vienna Convention and bilateral agreements on the treatment of diplomatic and consular officials. On the contrary, it is an intrinsic element of a larger policy of supporting cross-border violence and terrorism, it added.

MEA referred to the recent abduction at gunpoint of two Indian officials in Pakistan who were subjected to severe ill treatment. Foreign Ministry said that the act underlines the extent to which Pakistan has gone in this direction. The abducted officials after their return to India have provided graphic details of the barbaric treatment that they experienced at the hands of Pakistani agencies. In this connection, the Charge d’ Affaires of Pakistan was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs yesterday and informed that India had repeatedly expressed concern about the activities of officials of Pakistan High Commission. It said that the Pakistani officials have been engaged in acts of espionage and maintained dealings with terrorist organizations.

The Foreign Ministry also highlighted the activities of the two officials caught red-handed and were expelled last month as a glaring example. It said that Pakistan has engaged in a sustained campaign to intimidate the officials of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad from carrying on their legitimate diplomatic functions. Indian High Commission will also reduce its staff strength in Islamabad to 50 per cent in the next seven days.

Mr. Singh, who is on a three-day visit to Russia to attend the 75th Anniversary of Victory Day Parade, said his visit to Moscow is the first foreign visit of an official delegation from India after the COVID pandemic.

Terming it as a sign of special friendship, Mr Singh said, despite all the difficulties of the pandemic, bilateral relations between Delhi and Moscow have been keeping good contacts at various levels. He said, during the meeting, Indo-Russian defence cooperation was reviewed and plans to further extend it was discussed. Affirming defence relationship as one the important pillars in the relationship between the two countries, Mr. Singh informed that Indian proposals have received positive responses from the Russian side. He asserted that the traditional friendship between India and Russia remains strong and both countries continue to cooperate on mutual and shared interests. Pride Goes Before Destruction

“Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

“For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

This leaves you with an understanding that humility is a virtue; pride is not. Humility comes when people are secure while pride comes when they are insecure. Humility is your strength whereas pride is your weakness.

pride

More often than not the line between pride and humility is blurred. While trying to keep it in check, you get either too arrogant or too humble when the time comes. Your thoughts become conflicting while figuring out whether to be proud or humble in a certain situation and you almost always end up doing the opposite of what was intended. It seems like a never-ending maze without any particular destination.

So the question that arises now is how do you distinguish when to show what emotion and in what quantity? This can be achieved by knowing the answer to these two simple questions.

What is the difference between true pride and false pride? What is the difference between true humility and false humility?

True pride is when you acknowledge your identity and your actions without the burning need for approval from the outside sources. False pride is claiming that you are more than you believe you are and that you know more than you need to know. In this case, a person will feel empty and inadequate from inside and need approval for every tiny detail of his life from others. Now outside approval is not necessarily a bad thing but when you feel like your self-worth depends on it, know that you are in deep trouble. Another thing associated with false pride is a sense of arrogance. True pride is knowing you are better than the other person at a certain task. This is not somehow affecting your performance or hindering your progress. False pride is getting the other person to acknowledge the fact that he is behind you in that task. Often while doing this, a person loses sight of the long-term goal with his need to feel superior to others.

pride2

True humility is when you acknowledge your identity and your actions without the burning need for approval from the outside sources. False humility is claiming that you are less than you believe you are and that you can do less than you believe you can. A person with false humility is driven with a need to get everyone to accept that he is too humble as he feels himself to be inferior to them. This could be the case when he thinks being even a little proud is bad for him or when he wants to shadow his arrogance by overcompensating for it. A truly humble person will not be affected by what others think of his actions.

What this brings us to is that true pride and true humility are one and the same thing. We need to balance out these emotions in our lives, all the while working towards our goal and not caring about unnecessary opinions.

How to Stand out During a Phone Interview

Phone interviews are a common step in the job-search process.  Most often, hiring managers request phone screens before initiating an in-person interview. In these initial screenings, hiring managers expect the applicants to be as prepared as they would be for an in-person meeting. Here are a few steps to get ready for your next phone interview.

Have your material at hand

In a phone interview, hiring managers will ask you about your work history and education, along with other necessary questions to establish your knowledge, skills, abilities and qualifications for the position. To answer these questions as thoroughly and thoughtfully as possible, have copies of your resume, previous job descriptions and any materials related to transcripts, degrees, or certifications at hand. This will minimize the potential for a lot of “lag” time that is often filled with awkward pauses while you search for the information you need. Being clear and articulate in your responses will show the interviewer that you are prepared and focused.

Practice your responses

During normal conversation, we tend to make up for our pauses with filler words, such as “um” and “like.” To sound more articulate, and to avoid being dismissed by the interviewer, practice how you would respond to typical interview questions ahead of time. If possible, record yourself and play it back to see if you rely heavily on the use of filler words. We are often unaware of our own speech patterns, so taking the extra time to practice your responses will help you sound more prepared and confident over the phone.

Research the company

In a phone interview, hiring managers also like to hear the applicant’s questions about the company and the position. If an applicant does not have questions, it is a cue to the interviewer that the applicant didn’t do enough research.  Even if there are no obvious questions to ask, create a couple. For example, ask about how the position fits within the strategic plan of the organization, or how the company integrates different departments into the planning process. You can also ask questions about the reporting structure for the position, or about the top priorities for the person who fills the position. While these questions are usually asked in face-to-face interviews, you’ll want to have a few questions prepared to help you not only find out more about the company and position, but to show your interest in the company beyond getting the job.

Plan for comfort

Some folks are more comfortable on their feet than they are sitting in a chair and are able to project their voice better. If you prefer to pace when you are problem-solving or having important discussions such as an interview, you need to make sure your phone can keep up with your footwork. If you are using a mobile phone, make sure that you have a strong connection. If you are using a landline, adjust your call waiting so it doesn’t interrupt you during the conversation. If you prefer to sit, make sure that your chair is comfortable and that you have a table or desk in front of you to spread out your materials. Have a glass of water ready for those moments when you need to take a sip. If you’re in an area that might be loud, find a quiet place and shut the door. Never under-estimate the potential of your surroundings to interrupt your interview. Plan ahead to make sure that you’ll be comfortable during the call , which is why it’s better to schedule a call when you’re at home, not at the park or in a grocery store.

Take notes during your interview

Finally, make sure you take notes during your interview.  Make notes on the questions they asked, the information they provided and some of the answers you provided. These notes will help you prepare for in-person interviews as you advance through the selection process.
By being well-prepared, you increase your opportunities for making a strong first impression during a phone interview. It isn’t easy to stand out from the other applicants over the phone, but by taking these steps you will make a positive impression that counts.

STRUCTURE OF ORGANISING

The structure is the pattern in which various parts or components are integrated or interconnected and this prescribes the relationships among various activities and positions, as these positions are held by various persons, a structure is called the relationships among people in the organization and thus organization structure refers to the differentiation and integration of activities and authority, role and relationships in the organization. Differentiation is the differences in cognitive and emotional orientations among managers in different functional departments and differences in formal structure among these departments. Integration refers to the quality of the state of collaboration that is required to achieve unity of effort by the organization. The structure of an organization thus regulates, coordinates, and reduces uncertainty in the behaviour of people. According to Peter F. Drucker, “Organisation structure is the most important means as a structure wrongly build cannot assist in the promotion of the business”. Thus, the organisational structure is the lifeline of an organisation and this determines the mutual relationship of different persons working within an institution and clarifies the position of each person in it.

TYPES OF ORGANISATION

Creation of an appropriate structure is indispensable for any organisation and Organisation structure represents the hierarchical arrangement of various positions in the enterprise and it helps in allocating authority and responsibility formally and it also lays down the pattern of communication and coordination in the enterprise and As Kimball write, “ The problem of an organisation is to select and combine the efforts of men of proper characteristics to produce the desired results”. Although character and type of organization would depend largely on the size and nature of the enterprise, yet, there are certain patterns of organising the personnel in an organisation and the need of clear-cut authority/responsibility relationships has led to different forms of administrative organisation as follows:

1. Line Organisation

It represents a direct vertical relationship through which an activity flows from top to bottom throughout the organization and the quantum of authority is highest at the top and it reduces at each successive level down the hierarchy, every person in the organisation is in the direct chain of command. The line of authority not only becomes the avenue of command to operating personnel but also provides the channel of communication, coordination and accountability in the enterprise.

2. Line and Staff organization

Under the line and staff organization, the function of line is similar to its function under the line of organisation but some staff or experts are also appointed as advisors to the line officers. The functions of line officer are to take decisions, while the function of the staff officers is to advise them and these staff officers are experts in their respective fields and they offer their useful advice after analysing the problems presented by the line officers and in the way, the work of thinking and execution is done by different persons and this removes the chief defect of the line organisation and it can be adopted in case of large business enterprises. It is, however, important to make it clear that the line officers are not bound to accept the advice offered by the staff officers because the line officers alone are responsible for the outcome.

A project is a series of related a task which when they are carried in the correct order will lead to the completion of the project. Projects are temporary, generally resulting in the creation of a tangible product or outcome. A construction project, sometimes just referred to as a ‘project’, is the organised process of constructing, renovating, refurbishing, etc. a building, structure or infrastructure. The project process typically starts with an overarching requirement which is developed through the creation of a brief, feasibility studies, option studies, design, financing and construction.

Construction projects are typically one offs. That is, a project team, brief and financing are put together to produce a unique design that delivers a single project. Once the project is complete the team is disbanded and sometimes will not work together again. This can make it difficult to develop ideas or relationships, and so lessons learned are often not carried forward to the next project. The exceptions to this are repeat developers such as supermarket chains, housebuilders, and so on.

How Do I Motivate Myself to Stay Motivated?

Making a decision to achieve success is not enough. Many do so, but they are doing not back their decision with action.

It is so easy and pleasant to daydream, watch programs on TV about celebrities and follow them on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. This might be sweet, but it will not make you successful.

To achieve success you need to act. You need to do things. You need to follow through with your decisions, even if it is difficult and inconvenient and you need leave your comfort zone.

You need to motivate yourself constantly, until motivation become a habit.

Decisions and plans need to be backed by strong desire and strong ambition, steady motivation, and perseverance. You have to keep your goal constantly in your mind, and avoid negative thoughts and doubts about your ability to achieve your goal. To do so, you need a constant supply of motivation.
We read about successful and rich people and want to be like them. A weak desire is not enough. It must be burning desire that is not stopped by obstacles and by failures.

Almost every successful person experienced failure and rejection, but they found the inner strength to rise above them and continue trying.

Many try to reach far, but only the ones who do not give up win.

What do you choose, to be on the ranks of those who:

Only daydream.
Try, fail, and quit.
Go all the way, despite obstacles, fears and failures.
It is natural to be at times frustrated, exhausted, or discouraged. Sometimes, plans do not work out as expected. At other times, we feel tired and lack energy. Yet, you can awaken renewed motivation.

Here are few actions that can help you motivate yourself:

  1. If you have a certain goal that you want to achieve, you need to remind yourself often, about the importance of your goal and how much you want it accomplished.
  2. Think often, what proportion your goal means to you. Think of details, visualize it, and feel as if it is already accomplished.
  3. Repeat your decision to achieve your goal, every day, several times a day.
  4. Always try to find ways to replenish our motivation and enthusiasm.

One of the way to do so, is to do small acts that get you closer to your goal. Sometimes, it is difficult to awaken enthusiasm, especially when the goal looks too big and far away. In this case, do a few minor actions that are easy to do, and which get you closer to achieving it. This will keep the zest and enthusiasm alive.

  1. Think of the benefits of achieving your goal, and how your life will be after achieving it.
  2. Read about people who have achieved success, and let their stories inspire you. Be careful of negative thoughts that might rise up, telling you that you cannot do what they did. Reject these thoughts, no matter how many time they return.
  3. Read inspiring quotes by people who achieved success. Every quote is like a tiny sparkle of wisdom and inspiration. You can many quotes, here, at the quotes directory.
  4. When frustrated or discouraged, exercise your body, take a walk or go the gym. This will fill you with renewed energy and strength.
  5. Surround yourself with positive and happy people. A positive mental attitude is contagious, and so are feelings of happiness. Of course, if you are too negative, there might be inner resistance at first, but you should not let negativity win.

The art of happiness

William Ogdon’s column appeared on the editorial page of the New York Times on. December 30, 1945.

There was never a time when so much official effort was being expended to produce happiness, and probably never a time when so little attention was paid by the individual to creating the personal qualities that make for it. What one misses most today is the evidence of widespread personal determination to develop a character that will in itself, given any reasonable odds, make for happiness. Our whole emphasis is on the reform of living conditions, of increased wages, of controls on the economic structure- the government approach – and so little on man improving himself.

The ingredients of happiness are so simple that they can be counted on one hand. Happiness comes from within, and rests most securely on simple goodness and clear conscience. Religion may not be essential to it, but no one is known to have gained it without a philosophy resting on ethical principles. Selfishness is its enemy; to make another happy is to be happy one’s self. It is quite, seldom found for long in crowds, most easily won in moments of solitude and reflection. It cannot be bought; indeed, money has very little to do with it.

No one is happy unless he is reasonably well satisfied with himself, so that the quest for tranquillity must of necessity begin with self examination. We shall not often be content with what we discover in this scrutiny. There is so much to do, and so little done. Upon this searching self analysis, however, depends the discovery of those qualities that make each man unique, and whose development alone can bring satisfaction.

Of all those who have tried, down the ages, to outline a program for happiness, few have succeeded so well as William Henry Channing, chaplain of the House of Representatives in the middle of the last century:

“To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy . . . to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to the stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never ; in a word to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common.”

It will be noted that no government can do this for you; you must do it for yourself.
