The Untold Story of the Cinema Godfather

One of the biggest tragedies to happen to motion pictures was less about what happened on the big screen but something that happened off camera at the very beginning of the story of the moving image. It was one train ride to Paris that wiped French inventor and artist Louis Le Prince’s name out of the books of history.

Born on 28 August 1841 in Metz, Le Prince was the son of a respected officer of the Lágion d’Honneur, a French order established by Napoleon in 1802. His family referred to him as “Augustin” and English-speaking friends would later call him “Gus”. He grew up spending time in the studio of his father’s friend, the photography pioneer Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre, from whom the young Le Prince allegedly received lessons relating to photography and chemistry and for whom he was the subject of a Daguerrotype, an early type of photograph.

His education went on to include the study of painting in Paris and post-graduate chemistry at Leipzig University, which provided him with the academic knowledge he was to utilize in the future. Having studied all art, physics and chemistry at university, the Frenchman moved to Leeds where he met, fell in love with, and married English artist Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Whitley. Together the new couple began a school of applied art named the Leeds Technical School of Art. Soon they were well-renowned for their work combining photography on metal and ceramic. The family later moved to the US for some years while Louis managed a small group of French artists there.

It was also in the US that Le Prince began to build his sixteen-lens camera and experiment with film stock. In 1886 he created a 16-lens camera and applied for an American patent on 2 November of the same year, receiving this at the beginning of 1888; on 16 November 1888, he received a British patent for his invention. The Le Prince Single-lens Cine Camera, proved to be one of the most ground-breaking inventions of early cinema. While the contraption, which utilises paper-backed stripping film, may appear primitive by today’s standards, evidence that the equipment was successful in projecting moving images means that Louis Le Prince’s movies pre-date those of Edison and the Lumières by over half a decade.

In a cruel twist of fate however, it was a single day that erased the French inventor’s name as the original inventor of the motion picture camera. Once content with his creation, Le Prince had the first public exhibition of his work and his motion pictures scheduled in New York during September, 1890. Yet he never made it, disappearing just on the 16th of that month, never to be seen again and baffling authorities and film theorists for over 100 years. Following the death of his mother, Le Prince had travelled to Dijon, France to visit his family and spend time with his brother, Albert. Having dropped him at the train station with all of the material for his presentation and a suitcase said to be containing his latest patents, his brother waved him off … only for Le Prince never to arrive at his destination. French authorities and Scotland Yard launched an investigation immediately, but not a single passenger on the train reported seeing Le Prince onboard. Le Prince was officially declared dead in 1897. His disappearance for over a century has been riddled with many theories with rivalries with inventors such as Thomas Edison and heavy debt being listed as explanations.

For the most part, his work went largely unacknowledged among the wider public. However, thanks to the continued efforts of his family and the city of Leeds, where he’s considered a local legend, Le Prince’s work has been recognised in recent years. In 1930, there was a bronze memorial plaque unveiled in his honour and he was featured in the 1966 Jacques Deslandes documentary “The Comparative History of Cinema”. In September 2016 a documentary about Le Prince from Leeds filmmaker David Wilkinson, “The First Film” , played at the Morris-Jumel Mansion in New York. This was 126 years after Le Prince was set to screen his first films in the very same building.

The World of Nepotism

Welcome to the anti-meritocratic world, this world. What are you going to do about it? Will you stand back and watch while cronyism, nepotism, the old school tie, the private club, the right university, the right accent, the right background, the right secret society, the right religion, the right family, destroy merit so that their chosen ones can prosper at your expense. It’s time to smash the conspiracy. Break up all the mechanisms that allow privileged groups within society to rig the system in their favour and penalise anyone who doesn’t belong to their insidious cliques.

Michael Faust, The Meritocracy Party

Well , Its a very complicated questions . In the world, where one’s knowledge didn’t get recognition .

What would you do , when you get acknowledged not on the basis of your knowledge but on the basis of your relation with the owner ?

What would you do , if you don’t get promoted because you are not his /her relative ?

Do you ignore the fact that you are not the one , whom your boss approves?

Well , if you think it’s favouritism than you are absolutely correct . You may also come accross the word NEPOTISM and if you don’t than start reading the passage . (I did as well )

This 8 letter word is destroying everyone in today’s world. And who is responsible for creating such a hypocrite. We the people have to repose this curse and make sure to control it with our coming generations, else it will destroy the whole world. And there’ll be no humanity left in this world” –

Ikramul Hannah.

Introduction

Nepotism is a the practice among those with power or influence of favouring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.

Nepotism is generally defined as “the bestowal of patronage by public officers in appointing others to positions because of blood or marital relationship”.

Nepotism is found in almost all the fields but it is practiced most in business, politics, sports and entertainment sectors. It has been in practice since time immemorial, but some special cases have made it to the limelight in the past few decades.

Nepotism in India :

India has it’s fair share in the field of NEPOTISM . Well , have you ever expected that . I say , YES . Because being one of the largest country , people might become more thirsty for power . “When constantly reaching out for more, you forget what you have” Christine Szymanski.

Nepotism can be characterized as ‘the demonstration of utilizing force or impact to get out of line preferences for individuals from one’s family’.

You must be conflicted , why does nepotism exist even today ? We are living in 21st century , than why we have such orthodox thinking ? Who says no one can define what is going on in one’s mind ( well I say , isn’t is obvious ) .

From the politics to the Entertainment , from the owner to the customer, from the Bollywood to the Judiciary ; Nepotism is everywhere .

Like in OJO -MOJO , After the submission of writing competition , OJO’s class teacher asked him who wrote better . Is it MOJO or OLLY , what do you think whom he would choose . MOJO thinks OJO will choose OLLY because he likes her . But when the result announced MOJO was astounded because OJO choose MOJO’s writing . So , what do you think is it nepotism or not . Think and you will know the answer .

Bias has become the first qualification to join a party, and extreme bias the virtue to become a leader.

International day of Tropics

The serenity of the lulling ocean is a wondrous thing to behold..more precious than the gems coveted and covered in platinum or gold…

Oksana Rus

Introduction

International day of Tropics is observed every year on June 29th . This day is celebrated to highlight the different challenges and opportunities faced by the nation as well as by the people who lived in tropical areas .

Firstly , you want to know about things like :

What are tropics ?

Why we celebrate international day of Tropics ?

Or

Is it worth it to talk about these things and is it really important ?

Well hold your horses and try to calm .

What is tropic day and why we celebrate it ?

Well a tropic day is celebrated to highlight the importance of Tropics , it signifies extraordinary and astounding diversity of tropical nations .

The Tropic defined as a area /region between tropic of Cancer and tropic of Capricorn . The day aim at promoting tropical regions and awareness to the people about the diversity of these regions .

While these regions go through little seasonal changes on day to day basis because of some factors like tomography , climatic variation that causes changes in temperature and make these regions warm.

This day introduced to the world when in June 29th , 2014 twelve leading tropical research institutes come together and collaborate. The inaugural state of the Tropics report was launched . The report offers some unique perspective for the increasing the importance of these regions .

United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/70/267 in 2016, which declared that 29 June of each year is to be observed as the International Day of the Tropics.

The International day of Tropics briefly explained the issues affecting the tropical zone’s all over the world. To raise awareness and important role the countries played to Sustainable goals .

International day of Tropics 2021

As per the state tropics report the theme of this year is “ THE DIGITAL DIVIDE IN THE TROPICS ”

With the record of sustainable development goals as well as developmental scope . The biodiversity of these regions are maximum and its loss is also greater there. Tropical regions comprise 98% world’s mangrove forests, and around 99% mangrove species.

Due to the subpolar zone the Sun is directly overhead which is one of the region of extinction of flora and fauna in the Tropics. The region is subjected to myriad and need immediate attention to ensure sustainable development.

More than 50% of renewable water resource could be founded their. But the threat lies which causes eviction of lives in the Tropics.

Importance :

Due to the problems it’s our duty as a human being to spread awareness about the implications in climate changes , deforestation , urbanization , global warming effect the biodiversity and lives in Tropics.

A society that can breach the stereotype in India .

I never feel confined by gender, by labels, by expectations, by stereotypes. I’m free to be myself.

Princess Nokia

Introduction

During the last two decades it is said that to be a women is the most precious gift a human can have . To be able to give birth to another human being that lives inside precisely 9 months at most .

But their is another dispute that a women can only be a insider . That can fulfill the needs of the dominant society.

Isn’t these two statements are contradictory. In first one a women is a precious gift and in another she can only fullfill one’s needs but only in four walls .

Aren’t they human or a thing that can only live under the roof of men for living ?

Women have always played an important role in the society . Even in the ancient times , they were considered as an equal with the men . So what change , the air , the water , the life style or the mindset . We can also say that the stereotype mindset in society .

Years and years before people grew their ego and think about their individual benefits. Women lead life with virtue , wisdom and respect .

When it start

It was all not same as it was now , their were times when women rule the nation . But due to the foreign invasion , women suffer immensely . At the mediaeval times , women came to be confined within the four walls of the house .

Mediaeval period also known as ‘DARK AGE ‘ as very few women’s were found to be a ruler at that period . It was the period when women brought to the deeds where they made to be inferior to men .

They were raped and brutally killed by the demons who think they can dominate them .

Rani Padmavati, Jodha Bai, Gulbadan Begum, Nurjahan, Jahan Ara , Mumtaj Mahal, Razia Sultan , Jija Bai are some of the women who fought for their right , safety , people , family and love also saved many .

“And one day she discovered that she was fierce, and strong, and full of fire, and that not even she could hold herself back because her passion burned brighter than her fears.”

– Mark Anthony

Modern era

It’s a century of love , reliability , equality and most important individuality .

Then why women are always compared to the men . Why they questioned when they are innocent . ( Well not all are innocent and victim , just for those who are ) .

I do believe that men and women are different . Their differences doesn’t make them weak . It’s just a perspective and view of people that make them vulnerable .

But do women care , it’s their own life not to say that anyone means ANYONE can come and stamp their ‘so called ’ rules on them . Not against the male gender but to those who think they can dominate and lock them in four walls .

Not to say, if women lock men in four wall room . So what will happen to them . Umm. Let’s think , they run like a horse at the time when the room unlocked .

If OJO -MOJO can’t stay in their rooms can’t OLLE do the same . Yes she can , also kick their humpy dumpy bum.

Let’s end the topic and eat some more . It’s a 21st century donot let someone walk on you , you can stand for yourself .

“Don’t let anyone speak for you, and don’t rely on others to fight for you.”

– Michelle Obama

This editorial is written under one’s perspective . Neither against any gender nor in favour .

Being in the imagination or live in the realistic world .

Being born in money or torn away by poverty is the world where we live

The Hallucination

Are the money makers living their life without fear ?

Can a poorer get to live more life than its fated ?

Will you ignore the one who hurt you immensely ?

Or like a coward , can you run from the truth ?

If yes , than pray to god for providing you such an imaginary world . Don’t take it seriously but you really need to wake up .

The Truth

The life that we are living is not a game to play . We need be realistic while taking decisions in our life . I don’t want to sound like an arrogant person . But we need to think before taking any decision because it may or may not harm our future . In our life we only focus on materialistic things and grow accustom to them . Which leads to the situation where we become selfish and fiercely jealous to one’s personality .

We judge them regarding to their status , money , power , clothes and their physique . Ding ding …. It’s time for the truth we become impetuous .

So what we learn from OJO -MOJO . 1. Like OJO that donot study and fail in your class. OR 2. MOJO that learn workhard and get award from the school . I choose options 1 (hehe don’t get any ideas I am a hardworker so I will choose my handsome MOJO not an overconfident OJO )

The REALITY

Not against the world of imagination just a believer of reality .

Life is not easy I agree with you but can we make it easy , Is the question only you can answer .

For me , we can only when we are focusing on our work rather than its result . I am not repulsive about getting a promotion on my first day on the work . But I am excited about learning new things and improve my capabilities . That how we need to react . I didn’t get the idea of getting a luxurious jet when I didn’t even have a penny to spend on my health . Well if you can just don’t forget to take me as well ( Huh.. greedy me ) .

I do imagine my life being in the island with some hot people around me ( its a wild imagination) . Well I can’t change that . But what I can change is the accept the reality ( like sitting in my PJ’s , eating popcorn and drooling over Michele Morrone yeah I am fan of 365 days ) .

Conclusion

Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.

Where did she go?

On June 3rd, 2011 the world recorded one of the most mysterious disappearances of the 20-year-old
Lauren Spierer following a night of drinking and alleged drug use at Kilroy’s Sports Bar. The only child
of her parents, Charlene and Robert Spirier is presumably dead and the case remains a mystery.
EARLY LIFE: Lauren was born on 17th January 1991 to an accountant, Robert Spirier and Charlene Spierer, a housewife. In Scarsdale, New York in the lower Westchester County. She graduated from Edgemont High School in 2009 and enrolled in Indiana University. Spierer studied textile merchandising and was highly active in the Jewish community in Indiana.
The 20-year-old met her boyfriend Jesse Wolf and her friend Jay Rosenbaum and many others years
earlier at Camp Towanda, a summer camp in Honesdale, Pennsylvania who later comprised her
friend circle.
THE NIGHT LAUREN DISAPPEARED: Rob and Charlene had no qualms about bidding their daughter
Goodbye as they dropped her at Indiana for her freshman year. They considered it safe. But what they learned later during investigations was heart-jarring. Bloomington like other colleges has its dark sides. Many students complain of rampant alcohol abuse and a thriving drug scene of
which Lauren was a part.
She had been arrested for public intoxication nine months before her disappearance and later on
police found a small amount of cocaine in her room in 2011 after she had disappeared.
“It was a little bit of shock,” Charlene remarked about her daughter’s participation in the party scene.
On the night of 2nd June Lauren was outlined to have a wild night with Corey Rossman, Rosenbaum’s
neighbor.
Seth Parker who was into Bloomington’s drug scene around that time said Corey told him later that
Lauren and himself were partying and ‘pre-gaming’ at another apartment before heading to Kilroy’s
at 1:46 a.m. according to surveillance footage.
“They’re only about 30 minutes, but during that time, she leaves her shoes and her cellphone
in the bar”, says former FBI agent Officer Brad Garrett. “I think this gives you some indication about
how out of it she may be at this point.”
Lauren and Corey left Kilroy’s and headed towards Smallwood Plaza Apartments, where her
residence is located at 2:30 a.m. Zack Oakes, one of the four students they ran into in the hallway,
notices the former’s level of intoxication and inquired if she was okay.
“They don’t like the way Rossman is handling Lauren. And Rossman supposedly says
something smart to him and this guy decides to deck him.” Officer Garrett said. “Rossman goes
down.”
After they left Smallwood, the pair made their way to Rossman’s apartment at 2:48 a.m. Surveillance
cameras mounted on a nearby alley showed her exit the alley at 2:51 a.m. where the girl’s keys and
purse were found. After some time Corey tosses her over his shoulder in a fireman’s carry.
Once in Rossman’s apartment, he fell sick and went to bed according to his old roommate. The latter
then took Spierer next door, to the apartment of another friend, Jason Rosenbaum.

Jay sees what bad shape Lauren is in and says, ‘Lauren lay down on the couch. Go to sleep. Go
home in the morning.’ And she won’t do it, Garrett said. She says,’ I want to keep going, I want to
go.’ Jay walks her to the door and he sees her walk up 11th street.”
Reportedly he was the last person to see her alive.
INVESTIGATION: In August 2011, police conducted a nine-day search of the Sycamore Ridge Landfill
in Pimento for clues in the disappearance. Hundreds of volunteers also joined Lauren’s parents and authorities in a massive search that covered abandoned quarries, dense forests, and, in a last-ditch the effort, a local landfill. But they found nothing.
The HLN show, Real Life Nightmare, detailed the Lauren Spierer case in an hourlong episode called
“Night of No Return.” Spierer’s case has been covered in multiple podcasts, including Crime Junkie,
True Crime Garage, Going West: True Crime, True Crime All The Time Unsolved, Trace Evidence, and
Not Another True Crime Podcast.
In April 2015, the Bloomington Police tried investigating a possible link between Spierer’s disappearance and the murder of another IU student, Hannah Wilson, who went missing on April 24, 2015, after visiting Kilroy’s. Wilson was last seen getting into a taxi in front of the bar and driving
away. Her body was found the next morning in Brown County. A local man named Daniel Messel was
arrested for the murder after his cell phone was discovered near the body. In July 2015, Dietl concluded that the two cases are unrelated and any similarities between the two cases were purely coincidental.
Five years later the missing posters were all but gone around the Bloomington campus. But Rob and
Charlene has not given up and quietly, the case is very much alive as Officer Garrett and the team
of private investigators have turned up new witnesses, leads, and theories.
THEORIES: 1) “When something happens to someone, it’s usually from their circle”, says the officer
Brad. Hence, he started with those close to Lauren.
• Jesse Wolfe helped with the searches initially but later his parents took him away which
Robert thought was odd. No witnesses reported seeing Wolfe out that night and he claims
that he was occupied watching NBA finals and went to ned around 2:30 a.m. according to his
roommate.
• The police took a DNA sample from Corey Rossman and he denied further involvement. He
also claimed to have lost his memory after being slugged in Lauren’s apartment building.
Now living in New York, he declined repeated requests to talk, though his attorney says that
Rossman continues to cooperate which the police.
2) Stranger Abduction- The police have also acknowledged they have not ruled out the
possibility of an abduction by a stranger. Spierer’s parents have previously stated that they do
not believe her disappearance was a random abduction.
3)In 2017, Brown County prosecutor, Ted Adams, reported he believed Daniel Messel could
be related to Spierer’s disappearance. In 2016, Messel was convicted of killing Hannah Wilson.

  • Wilson had only been reported missing for one day when her body was found in a
desolate field; she had been bludgeoned to death. Messel’s cell phone was discovered at her
feet. Messel has never been charged in connection with Spierer’s case.
Ten-year elapses since Spierer’s death Robert and Charlene Spierer, still “emotionally raw,” in the words of Charlene, continue visiting Bloomington, to keep up the search. Given the case’s high
profile, it is unlikely police will officially move the file into the cold-case drawer anytime soon. For now, at least, “leads are coming in from several different places,” says Robert Spirier. “It’s one continuous series of leads and information that, at one point, might fall into place.
