George Bernard Shaw’s Mrs Warren’s profession

Introduction:
In this article, I’ll be focusing my writing on the concept of middle class morality. Middle class morality is the way a person is expected to behave and think when they are a part of the middle-class. this was because the poor and the rich weren’t compelled to follow rules but the middle class had to.

~ Firstly, with the rise of industrialization and trade, there was a great inflow of Wealth in England. Thus we are aware that the Victorian society was a very successful one. The ‘Victorian Morality’ included a class structure, focus on work ethics and economy, and charity. It shows us the immorality and sentimentality of the values and norms of the British society which consisted of hypocrisy, corruption, and injustice of the British social system infects everyone affiliated with it. It was hypocritical as respect was only received by those who held high places in society and everyone else were treated like dirt, charity was just a social responsibility and not a willing done act in order to help the less fortunate. Victorian era also discriminated between men and women which played a major role in the legacy of Victorian morality.

~ Industrialization saw the middle class of the society making their way up the social ladder. They worked hard towards wanting a better life and wanted to live life like the upper class society. They aspired for new goals and were desperate to improve their working condition. Even though they couldn’t enjoy all the luxuries of the upper class, they still could get a taste of how the upper class society led their life. If one was a part of the middle class society, their thoughts, opinions were dictated. Even though they worked hard, only some of them enjoyed all the privileges while some were suffering to make ends meet. These morals were applied to middle and high class society but honestly, most of the Victorian era were not moral at all.

~ In this play, Shaw throws light on how Mrs Warrens has defied social expectations by working as a prostitute and has no problem with owning or accepting reality. Why is it that when the rich baron, Mr. Croft who runs a prostitution ring which is considered highly immoral but is always treated with respect? This is because of the discrimination which happens between men and women. If there was a woman in the place of Mr. Croft, then nobody would true a blind eye. It is also because he belongs to the higher class society. We can see the luxuries the higher class society members enjoy through this example.

~ Women who wanted to express their emotions through prostitute were considered “morally incorrect” as in the Victorian era, people would encourage one to starve rather than prostitute their own bodies to make a living. People who belonged to the Victorian era consideration prostitution to be a huge threat to the society. The society had the audacity to judge women when they weren’t even provided with stable jobs/ good opportunities for women. They always thought that the women were weak and always had to be dependent on men. They forgot that women were their own people and were not existing to satisfy the needs of men.

~ In the Victorian society, respect was earned not by working hard or achievements but it was from how much income one earns. Monetary worth is given utmost importance. Shaw brings out the skepticism by showing us different means of earnings money by Mr. Croft and Mrs Warrens. Even though Mr. Croft is respected, Mrs Warren’s profession is considered as vulgar and completely inappropriate. They make comments about how Mrs Warrens is going against the society’s values like feminity and oppression.

~ Being aquatinted with Victorian society, we know that they were quick to blame Mrs Warrens for choosing the profession of prostitution even though that wasn’t her first choice. Shaw uses this opportunity to point out the hypocrisy and unjustness actions of the society where women weren’t given enough opportunities to be independent.

~ Shaw portrays most of his major female characters as unconventional. Women were highly objectified and considered as creatures of oppression, dependency and passiveness. They thought that women weren’t worthy of education and therefore Vivie was not considered to be feminine. She is strong, realistic and a rational thinker, independent and ambitious and refuses to think that marriage is her end goal. Mrs Warrens expects Vivie to listen to her as she is her mother and wants her daughter to follow these Victorian society Norms but Mrs Warrens break these Norms when they tend to benefit her. She refuses to accept Vivie and her bold outlook but enters the field of prostitution when it’s beneficial.

~ We can see the inequality between men and women. Even though, the era was thriving under a female monarch, even though there was abundant growth in art, culture and wealth, it was very unjust towards women. Even though it had it benefits, it failed to uphold the rights of women which would’ve led them to lead better and happy lives.

Global Warming

The global yearly temperature has risen by a little more than 1 degree Celsius, or roughly 2 degrees Fahrenheit, during the Industrial Revolution. It increased by 0.07 degrees Celsius (0.13 degrees Fahrenheit) every ten years between 1880 and 1980, when accurate recordkeeping began. However, the pace of rise has more than doubled since 1981: The worldwide yearly temperature has risen by 0.18 degrees Celsius (0.32 degrees Fahrenheit) every decade during the previous 40 years.

The world has never been hotter. After 1880, nine of the ten warmest years have occurred since 2005, with the five warmest years on record all occurring since 2015. Climate change doubters claim that rising global temperatures have slowed or stopped, however multiple studies, including one published in the journal Environmental Research Letters in 2018, have refuted this claim

Climate scientists have now concluded that we must limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2040 if we are to avoid a future in which the worst, most devastating effects of climate change: extreme droughts, wildfires, floods, tropical storms, and other disasters that we collectively refer to as climate change, will be part of everyday life around the world.

These effects are felt by all people in one way or another but are experienced by the underprivileged, the economically marginalized, and people of color, for whom climate change is often a key driver of poverty, displacement, hunger, and social unrest.

CAUSES FOR GLOBAL WARMING

When carbon dioxide (CO2) and other air pollutants accumulate in the atmosphere, they absorb sunlight and solar radiation that has bounced off the earth’s surface, causing global warming. Normally, this radiation would escape into space, but these contaminants, which may persist in the atmosphere for years to centuries, trap the heat and cause the earth to warm.

Greenhouse gases are heat-trapping pollutants such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, water vapor, and synthetic fluorinated gases, and their impact is known as the greenhouse effect.

Though natural cycles and fluctuations have caused the earth’s climate to change several times over the last 800,000 years, our current era of global warming is due to human activity—specifically, our burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, gasoline, and natural gas, which results in the greenhouse effect.

Transportation accounts for 29% of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, followed by power production (28%), and industrial activities (28%). (22 percent).

To avert disastrous climate change, drastic reductions in emissions are required, as well as the widespread usage of alternatives to fossil fuels. The good news is that, as part of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, governments around the world have publicly pledged to reduce their emissions by setting new targets and developing new policies to meet or even exceed those standards.

The bad news is that we aren’t working quickly enough. According to scientists, we need to cut global carbon emissions by up to 40% by 2030 to prevent the worst effects of climate change. To achieve this, the international community must take quick and tangible efforts to decarbonize electricity generation by fairly transitioning from fossil fuel to renewable energy production.

Warming temperatures are generating longer and hotter heat waves, more frequent droughts, more rains, and more intense hurricanes, according to scientists.

The earth’s ocean temperatures are also rising, allowing tropical storms to pick up more energy. To put it another way, global warming has the potential to transform a category 3 storm into a more dangerous category 4. In reality, scientists have discovered that the frequency of North Atlantic hurricanes, as well as the number of storms that reach classifications 4 and 5, has increased since the early 1980s.

Communities are suffering and death tolls are rising as heat waves, droughts, and floods linked to climate change grow more common and intense. Scientists think that if we don’t lower our emissions, climate change would kill over 250,000 people per year and push 100 million people into poverty by 2030.

Climate change affects everyone, yet not everyone is affected equally. Indigenous peoples, people of color, and those on the margins of society are often the hardest hit.

Even while these communities have done the least to contribute to climate change, inequities built into our housing, health-care, and labor systems render them more exposed to its worst effects.

As a major contributor to global warming, the US has a responsibility to assist the world in moving toward a cleaner, safer, and more equal future. Other countries care about our duty, and we should care about it as well.

PLACES TO VISIT IN SIKKIM

The impact of Social Media Influencers on Sales

The way social media influencers directly or indirectly influence publicity and promotion somehow also influence the sales of a brand. Some of the ways in which social media influencers impact sales are:

1. Help in Consumer Research Phase:

Nowadays, market is mostly “consumer-oriented”. Consumers search and research, read reviews about a brand and hence they want someone trusted and experts who will voice their opinions, concerns and recommendations. Influencers play a vital role in spreading the word of mouth and recommendations thereby increasing sales.

2.Help in increasing Return on Investment:

Social Media Influencers help in achieving a relatively high Return on Investments than other factors. It is because of low capital investment. Other forms of advertisement or marketing tools require huge capital whereas dealings with Social media Influencer can be fixed just on a simple phone call.

3.Content Creation helps in increased Sales:

Influencers create meaningful and exciting content that sometimes evoke interest in the viewer to buy the product. Apart from this, Influencers also work on multiple social media accounts and this helps them to reach wide and diverse audience. This is also very helpful for increasing sales in a business.

In a recent survey by Mediakix, a famous influencer marketing agency, about 89% of respondents say Return on Investment from Social Media Influencers is better than other channels.

In another survey by Tint, 71% of respondents told that they rely on social media referrals for purchase decisions.

Some Examples:

1) Glossier, USA.

The USA based beauty brand has built its brand image by entirely relying on Social Media Influencers and other forms of digital marketing. They rely heavily on influencers as they send new products to influencers before the products are even launched so that influencers identify the flaws and suggest improvements (if they require) and thereafter the brand makes the changes accordingly.

2)Daniel Wellington, Sweden

This company was able to tap the “business opportunity” and it proved out to be quite fruitful for them. They broke into the Indian market by solely relying on Social Media Influencers. It is a watch brand company sends its new products to big social media influencers in India and enjoys extreme profits and sales. They were able to see India as a good market due to the country’s vast population.

Conclusion:

Social Media Influencer marketing or the Influencer marketing has become the fastest growing trend in communication in last few years. The key factors involved to be a good influencer are trust and credibility in the message. Latest studies and research have proved that social media influencers contribute to a business’s growth in a very positive manner in terms of promotion, publicity, sales and ROI. Many assume this marketing tool is temporary and will extinct in few years, however only time can say it.

Distorted history,lead to identity crises!

“A generation which ignores history has no past and no future.”

Robert Heinlein

History plays important role in making of nation.even if its culture, economy, traditions, values, education or public mindset. All happening in present is reflection of past “karma’. So to transfer real history to next generation is job of any society.it is because What happening in past is seen only by our elder not by ours,so it is necessary that the truth and fact based history must carried forward, otherwise it will lead to creating chaos in society.

The Case of India

In case of India the history what we read currently is seems not only distorted but its also use an tool of propaganda by some “Fictional Historian” who in daylight are something else.In our history books we only read and read about “Delhi sultanate or Mughal Empire” but we don’t know about that, Rana Hammir singh capture the Delhi sultan Mohammed bin tughlaq and imprisoned him 3 months.do you ever read that Cholas have biggest naval power at that time in world ? Do you ever think how we made massive monolithic architectures in world at that time without using any machinary ? do the present historian think about repercussions of unreal or half truth of history on society ? No, they not think like that because they were manipulated by some mischieves masters who really not think about the nation future. What india currently face. The divide between Hindu-Muslim,Aryan-Dravidian,Brahmins-Non-Brahmins..it’ll lead us nowhere,we must put history through inclusive mind not through our exclusivity, the represention of all in our history programmes not only gave pride but also strengthen our social order.

The importance of Miedeval india not more than the Ancient one, what we see today in our daily society is come from ancient world.India is first in world where Indus valley civillisation ( IVC ) use bricks in proper ratio, have drainage system, pattern in roads etc.The importance of India is grow more when we knows that india specially “Sanatan”Sanskriti is last ancient civillistion on face of Earth,so it is our duty to protect its valuable wisdom, tradition from distortion of West and waste historians.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an alternative medicine system with historical roots in the Indian subcontinent. The theory and practice of Ayurveda is pseudoscientific.Ayurveda is heavily practiced in India and Nepal, where around 80% of the population report using it.

The word “ayurveda” is Sanskrit: आयुर्वेद, Āyurveda, meaning knowledge of life and longevity.Ayurveda is attributed to Dhanvantari, the physician to the gods in Hindu mythology, who received it from Brahma. Its earliest concepts were set out in the portion of the Vedas known as the Atharvaveda.
Ayurveda therapies have varied and evolved over more than two millennia.[2] Therapies include medicines, special diets, meditation, yoga, massage, laxatives, enemas, and medical oils. Medicines are typically based on complex herbal compounds, minerals, and metal substances (perhaps under the influence of early Indian alchemy or rasa shastra).
Ancient Ayurveda texts also taught surgical techniques, including rhinoplasty, kidney stone extractions, sutures, and the extraction of foreign objects.
    Ayurveda has two basic aims:
First, to preserve the health of healthy people and to help them attain the four principle aims of life (virtue, purpose or wealth, pleasure, and release or liberation from cycle of rebirth); second, to treat illness and disease.

SURVIVING THE COMPETITIVE WORLD.STRESS-FREE.

‘Cutthroat competition’ is a phrase we all must have heard. Population in the country is increasing and so is the competition for survival, be it any aspect of life. Students are vying for a seat in some good government college and college pass outs for jobs. Not just this, people are migrating from their home towns to cities that have job prospects.

This might sound like a great change, leading to a lot of growth not just of people but also of the nation, but in reality, things are a bit different.

Stress among people is becoming common and almost all people are being affected by it.

How does this stress develop? Let us take the example of students. In a class of 40 students, not all are bright and child prodigies. Some may be good at sports, some at arts and crafts, and some at literature. But the priority is always set on scoring high. Students who score better get to have the limelight. This puts undue pressure on the remaining students. The sad part is when parents compel their children to score high neglected their aptitude and their learning speed, which is required to ace exams that are taken with a defined syllabus to learn in a given time and the basis of the promotion to the next class is the amount of information that you can retain and write from that given set.

Such a procedure puts many students under a great deal of stress. They are not able to perform and in turn, get scolded by parents and teachers. No doubt, some students deliberately don’t study, but putting all students not being able to perform well under the same umbrella is not very appreciable.

Somewhat similar is the case with college dropouts or people who already are employed somewhere.

The competition cannot be reduced and survival is also important. ‘Survival of the fittest’, as was rightly said by Charles Darwin. What we can do is cope with the stress and, if possible try not taking stress at all.

Here are a few pointers that you can use to your advantage.

  1. Follow your passion-  No stress is there if you are enjoying what you are doing. And if you are doing this enjoying thing for a living, no problems exist. Hurdles may come on your road to follow your passion. Some parents might not agree with what you are pursuing a living plus some other factors also exist. For that one tip- Stay Determined! Also, the profession you are willing to carry out must be a respectable and decent one!
  2. Share with friends and family- They are the closest to you. Share with them any problems you are facing or any stress you are having.
  3. Exercise! – Physical fitness and activity play an important role in relieving stress and making the already empowered brain stronger.
  4. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself- Everybody is different. Everyone has his own pace. There is no need to copy someone. Be at your speed. There have been people who have amassed huge amounts of money in the very late stages of their life.

Life is one. Make the best possible use of it and live it stress-free!

POSITIVE THINKING

YOUR MIND IS A POWERFUL THING , WHEN YOU FILL IT WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS , YOUR LIFE WILL START TO CHANGE .
Meetali Soni
WHAT IS POSITIVE THINKING ?
Positive thinking does not necessarily mean avoiding or ignoring the bad things, trying to see the best in other people, and viewing yourself and your abilities in a positive light. There are lots of problems when you stay always negative .
Is your glass half-empty or half-full? How you answer this age-old question about positive thinking may reflect your outlook on life, your attitude toward yourself, and whether you’re optimistic or pessimistic — and it may even affect your health. A positive attitude is not just about Fixing that smile on your face every time, it is more than that. It is about maintaining that positive mindset and attitude even when things are in wrost time. Feed your mind with positive thoughts and you will see amazing changes around you.Less depression mind will becomes clear of any negative thoughts and you will see the world in a new light. You will stop blaming yourself or others. You will be in total control of your emotions. Positive thinking sounds useful on the surface. But, “positive thinking” is also a soft and fluffy term that is easy to dismiss. In the study of people over the age of 50, those who had more positive thoughts about aging lived longer. They also had less stress-related problems, which shows one possible link between their thoughts and health. People with a positive outlook may be more likely to live a healthy lifestyle since they have a more hopeful view of the future. Positivity doesn’t always refer to simply smiling and looking cheerful, however—positivity is more about one’s overall perspective on life and their tendency to focus on all that is good in life. Positive thinking just means that you approach unpleasantness in a more positive and productive way. You think the best is going to happen, not the worst.

Positive thinking often starts with self-talk. Self-talk is the endless stream of unspoken thoughts that run through your head. These automatic thoughts can be positive or negative. Some of your self-talk comes from logic and reason. Other self-talk may arise from misconceptions that you create because of lack of information. One theory is that people who think positively tend to be less affected by stress. Another possibility is that people who think positively tend to live healthier lives in general; they may exercise more, follow a more nutritious diet, and avoid unhealthy behaviors. “Positive thinking” and “positive psychology” are sometimes used interchangeably, it is important to understand that they are not the same thing.First, positive thinking is about looking at things from a positive point of view. Positive psychology certainly tends to focus on optimism, but it also notes that while there are many benefits to thinking positively, there are actually times when more realistic thinking is more advantageous.

THE BENEFITS OF POSITIVE THINKING :-
Lower chance of having a heart attack
Better physical health
Stress Relief
Increased Immunity
More creativity
Greater problem-solving skill
Clearer thinking
Better mood
Better coping skills

Self-confidence
Happiness
More focused

Augmented reality

Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information.

sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory and olfactory. AR can be defined as a system that incorporates three basic features: a combination of real and virtual worlds, real-time interaction, and accurate 3D registration of virtual and real objects. The overlaid sensory information can be constructive (i.e. additive to the natural environment), or destructive (i.e. masking of the natural environment). This experience is seamlessly interwoven with the physical world such that it is perceived as an immersive aspect of the real environment. In this way, augmented reality alters one’s ongoing perception of a real-world environment, whereas virtual reality completely replaces the user’s real-world environment with a simulated one. Augmented reality is related to two largely synonymous terms: mixed reality and computer-mediated reality.

The primary value of augmented reality is the manner in which components of the digital world blend into a person’s perception of the real world, not as a simple display of data, but through the integration of immersive sensations, which are perceived as natural parts of an environment. The earliest functional AR systems that provided immersive mixed reality experiences for users were invented in the early 1990s, starting with the Virtual Fixtures system developed at the U.S. Air Force’s Armstrong Laboratory in 1992. Commercial augmented reality experiences were first introduced in entertainment and gaming businesses. Subsequently, augmented reality applications have spanned commercial industries such as education, communications, medicine, and entertainment. In education, content may be accessed by scanning or viewing an image with a mobile device or by using markerless AR techniques.

Augmented reality is used to enhance natural environments or situations and offer perceptually enriched experiences. With the help of advanced AR technologies (e.g. adding computer vision, incorporating AR cameras into smartphone applications and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulated. Information about the environment and its objects is overlaid on the real world. This information can be virtual. Augmented Reality is any experience which is artificial and which adds to the already existing reality or real, e.g. seeing other real sensed or measured information such as electromagnetic radio waves overlaid in exact alignment with where they actually are in space. Augmented reality also has a lot of potential in the gathering and sharing of tacit knowledge. Augmentation techniques are typically performed in real time and in semantic contexts with environmental elements. Immersive perceptual information is sometimes combined with supplemental information like scores over a live video feed of a sporting event. This combines the benefits of both augmented reality technology and heads up display technology (HUD).

Comparison with virtual reality

In virtual reality (VR), the users’ perception of reality is completely based on virtual information. In augmented reality (AR) the user is provided with additional computer generated information within the data collected from real life that enhances their perception of reality. For example, in architecture, VR can be used to create a walk-through simulation of the inside of a new building; and AR can be used to show a building’s structures and systems super-imposed on a real-life view. Another example is through the use of utility applications. Some AR applications, such as Augment, enable users to apply digital objects into real environments, allowing businesses to use augmented reality devices as a way to preview their products in the real world. Similarly, it can also be used to demo what products may look like in an environment for customers, as demonstrated by companies such as Mountain Equipment Co-op or Lowe’s who use augmented reality to allow customers to preview what their products might look like at home through the use of 3D models.

Augmented reality (AR) differs from virtual reality (VR) in the sense that in AR part of the surrounding environment is actually ‘real’ and just adding layers of virtual objects to the real environment. On the other hand, in VR the surrounding environment is completely virtual. A demonstration of how AR layers objects onto the real world can be seen with augmented reality games. WallaMe is an augmented reality game application that allows users to hide messages in real environments, utilizing geolocation technology in order to enable users to hide messages wherever they may wish in the world. Such applications have many uses in the world, including in activism and artistic expression.

Star Trek Beyond: Explained

The third movie in the rebooted Star Trek series, set in an alternate universe where George Kirk died. The film picks up some time after the events of the last film, the USS Enterprise is on an exploratory mission in deep space. The movie pays tribute to Leonard Nimoy who played Spock in the original series, Nimoy passed away a year before the release. The movie is the last performance of Anton Yelchin who plays the lovable engineer Pavel Chekov, Yelchin died in a car crash 6 months before the release.

The movie starts with James trying to broker peace between 2 alien spices, after a brief fight James receives a relic and leaves the planet. The movie picks up as USS Enterprise lands on the star base of Yorktown for supplies and a break from their long exploratory mission. James has applied for a ground position after struggling to find meaning to the missions, he recommends Spock as his replacement. Spock receives the news of his older self’s death from new Vulcan, Spock thinks about resigning from Starfleet to lead his people on New Vulcan. On the base the crew meet their families and spend time on the base, Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu reunites with his family after a long time. The enterprise is dispatched on a recuse mission in a nearby uncharted nebula.

The rescue mission appears to be for an escape pod that broadcasted a distress signal. After docking the pod onto the ship its occupant Kalara request James to help her ship stranded on Altamid a planet in the nebula. As the enterprise moves closer to the planet a swarm of small ships begin to attack. The ships quickly tear the enterprise apart so that their leader could come aboard, the swarms leader Krall boards the ship and wreak havoc. He captures some of the crew and kill the rest in an attempt to find a device known as Abronath, the Abronath was recovered by the Enterprise on a recent mission. Kirk is forced to issue the order to abandon ship to save the surviving crew, the ships remains fall to the planet Altamid.

On the surface Sulu, Uhura and some other survivors are captured by Krall and taken to his camp. Kirk and Chekov land somewhere on the surface and are accompanied by Kalara to the remains of the enterprise, Dr Leonard McCoy and Spock land somewhere close to Krall’s camp. Spock is injured and McCoy attempts to heal him and engages him in conversation to take his attention off the pain, Spock reveals to McCoy that he wishes to leave Starfleet to join new Vulcan and continues his older self’s work. James and Chekov figure out that Kalara was Krall’s spy and defeat her by flipping the Enterprises saucer. Somewhere else Scotty is saved by Jaylah, a scavenger who escaped Krall.

Krall reveals the Abronath is the key to complete an ancient bioweapon capable of destroying civilisations, he showcases his ability to seemingly absorb someone else’s life force. A crew member is forced to give-up the relic after Krall starts killing the crew, Krall then tests the bioweapon on the crew member. James and Chekov are reunited with scotty who’s hiding with Jaylah on an early Starfleet ship the USS Franklin. The Franklin is a lost ship that went missing and lost all contact with Starfleet. The group formulates a plan to save the crew and defeat Krall who wants to destroy Yorktown.

After a successful rescue attempt, the crew powers up the grounded vessel and uses it to chase Krall. They jam and destroy the swarm by broadcasting songs to disrupt the swarms communication, Krall is chased by the Franklin all over in Yorktown. The crew discovers that Krall is the former captain of the Franklin, Balthazar Edison who used alien technology to survive after crashing on the planet. Balthazar aims to destroy the Starfleet and start an intergalactic war against former enemies, he crashes onto the surface of the starbase and is chased by James. James confronts Balthazar in the ventilation system right before he activate the weapon, after a brief fight James ejects the weapon and Balthazar into space sacrificing himself. James is saved by Spock and McCoy who stole a swarm ship, the weapon disintegrates Balthazar in space.

The movie ends with both James and Spock deciding to stay with the Starfellt, Spock renew his relationship with Uhura. Jaylah the scavenger is accepted into Starfleet academy on James’s recommendation.

The movie which seemed to be the final one ends with The crew watches the construction of their new ship the Enterprise A while celebrating James’s birthday. A next movie is set to release in 2023, until then Live Long and Prosper.

YOGA

Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines that originated in ancient India. Yoga is one of the six orthodox philosophical schools of Hinduism. There are a broad variety of yoga schools, practices, and goals in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism and there are four paths or types of yoga: Karma yoga, Kriya yoga, Bhakti yoga, and Jnana yoga. Research studies have shown that traditional yoga systems that include breathing exercises and asanas or postures, chants, and meditation can reduce stress and improve immunity and lung functions. Traditional forms and modern methods of yoga are practiced worldwide.

The practice of yoga has been thought to date back to pre-vedic Indian traditions, possibly in the Indus valley civilization around 3000 BCE. Yoga is mentioned in the Rigveda, and also referenced in the Upanishads, though it most likely developed as a systematic study around the 5th and 6th centuries BCE, in ancient India’s ascetic and Śramaṇa movements. The chronology of earliest texts describing yoga practices is unclear, varyingly credited to the Upanishads. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali date from the 2nd century BCE, and gained prominence in the West in the 20th century after being first introduced by Swami Vivekananda. Hatha yoga texts began to emerge sometime between the 9th and 11th century with origins in tantra.

Yoga gurus from India introduced yoga to the West following the success of Vivekananda’s adaptation of yoga without asanas in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The term “yoga” in the Western world often denotes a modern form of hatha yoga and yoga as exercise, consisting largely of the asanas. Outside India, it has developed into a posture-based physical fitness, stress-relief and relaxation technique. Traditional yoga, however, includes physical exercise, meditation, and spirituality. Yoga has its own epistemological method, which assumes the ontology and metaphysics of the closely correlated Samkhya darsana.

The ultimate goal of Yoga is Moksha (liberation), although the exact form this takes depends on the philosophical or theological system with which it is conjugated.

In the classical Astanga yoga system, the ultimate goal of yoga practice is to achieve the state of Samadhi and abide in that state as pure awareness.

According to Jacobsen, Yoga has five principal traditional meanings:

  1. A disciplined method for attaining a goal.
  2. Techniques of controlling the body and the mind.
  3. A name of a school or system of philosophy (darśana).
  4. With prefixes such as “hatha-, mantra-, and laya-, traditions specialising in particular techniques of yoga.
  5. The goal of Yoga practice.

According to David Gordon White, from the 5th century CE onward, the core principles of “yoga” were more or less in place, and variations of these principles developed in various forms over time:

  1. A meditative means of discovering dysfunctional perception and cognition, as well as overcoming it to release any suffering, find inner peace and salvation. Illustration of this principle is found in Hindu texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and Yogasutras, in a number of Buddhist Mahāyāna works, as well as Jain texts.
  2. The raising and expansion of consciousness from oneself to being coextensive with everyone and everything. These are discussed in sources such as in Hinduism Vedic literature and its Epic Mahābhārata, Jainism Praśamaratiprakarana, and Buddhist Nikaya texts.
  3. A path to omniscience and enlightened consciousness enabling one to comprehend the impermanent (illusive, delusive) and permanent (true, transcendent) reality. Examples of this are found in Hinduism Nyaya and Vaisesika school texts as well as Buddhism Mādhyamaka texts, but in different ways.
  4. A technique for entering into other bodies, generating multiple bodies, and the attainment of other supernatural accomplishments. These are, states White, described in Tantric literature of Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as the Buddhist Sāmaññaphalasutta. James Mallinson, however, disagrees and suggests that such fringe practices are far removed from the mainstream Yoga’s goal as meditation-driven means to liberation in Indian religions.

White clarifies that the last principle relates to legendary goals of “yogi practice”, different from practical goals of “yoga practice,” as they are viewed in South Asian thought and practice since the beginning of the Common Era, in the various Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain philosophical schools.

Interpretation

A beautiful book you read recently?

Beautiful song it was! I listened to a beautiful song and then I was wondering, did I just read a book? It’s rhythmical and melodious. The blurb says it’s a ‘tragic tale of two star crossed love’, but it wasn’t. It was balmy and soothing, it uplifted my spirits and delineated a beautiful love story with the aesthetic backdrop of post independence period.

I have read a lot of exhausting and overwritten Indian romance with the backdrop of post independence period, ‘The Prince and the Nightingale‘ is certainly a comfortable read for me, the writing style, character sketch and everything is comforting, reading this book is quite similar to watching a vintage romance movie.

Plotline

The story revolves around Abhimanyu, a prince who has decided to follow his passion after the collapse of princely states in India and Meera, a commoner who struggles to earn a good position in the society, the family roots of Meera intimidate her to follow her passion, when these two different people from different social backgrounds meet, melodious and melancholic song of ‘The Prince and the Nightingale’ commence painstakingly.

If you are looking for a good, refined Indian romance novel, I would certainly recommend this book.

Is love depleting from the world of humans?

“Love will find a way through paths, where wolves fear to pray”, as beautifully quoted by Lord Byron. Indeed “Love”, is one of the purest elements in the whole universe, which makes our world more beautiful.

Why do we love? Is it important to love others? Should we love ourselves? There are endless unexplored questions that make us think about it. For a poet, love is like seeing those dazzling stars at night, for a painter, love is beauty gifted by nature, for a philosopher it is something beyond existence. But one common thought which provokes in every human is that love makes us unite, it gives us harmony and a sense of comfort towards each other.

Love is illusioned in our minds, in our hearts, but yet it is fading somewhere from the world of humans.  Somewhere, we humans have forgotten how to love each other.

We are living in a generation where humans are rebellious and have detached from the emotional state of being. In the Contemporary world, people have forgotten about love and its profoundness. Whether it is self-love, to love others, Humans are having a neglecting behavior when it comes to love and gratitude.

This era is an era of remorse! An era where we are afraid of each other. Humans are toxic to each other. Where people don’t care for each other.

Gone are the days when the world was a beautiful place with all the precious jewels of mother nature. Now our world is a place filled with hatred, jealousy, evilness towards each other. Humans are in a motive to devastate each other for their desires and to let down other humans.

The love is no more the love that was there in the 18th century when Romeo loved Juliet had an eternal for each other. This was the time when love was the most prominent role for all humans to perform. Humans are the most threatening creature on our earth which is not only depleting love but also depleting humankind.

Love is no more than the love we had!

We have lost all our ethics and norms and living a misleading life. Often, we are living a life that has become a misfortune. We are living beings with shallow hearts. We have created a world where faith and trust no longer exist, and if it all is found we are burdened with societal pressure that we fall apart from our convictions.

Love is considered feeble, rather is one of the most vigorous things in the universe.

But as we say there is always hope for all. Love never dies and so we are alive till love exists. It all depends upon us and our convictions that how we perceive it.

In the end, to conclude we can say that why to deplete such a beautiful thing from the world. Let’s make a world more alluring than it is. Let’s make the world a paradise by loving and caring for each other.
