AQUAPONICS:

Aquaponics is a food production system that couples aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as fish, crayfish, snails or prawns in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water) whereby the nutrient rich aquaculture water is fed to hydroponic grown plant, involving nitrifying bacteria for converting ammonia into nitrates.

As existing hydroponic and aquaculture farming techniques form the basis for all aquaponic systems, the size, complexity, and types of foods grown in an aquaponic system can vary as much as any system found in either distinct farming discipline.

History

Further information: Historical hydroculture Woodcut from the 13th century Chinese agricultural manual Wang Zhen’s Book on Farming showing rice grown in a floating raft planter system in a pond.

Aquaponics has ancient roots, although there is some debate on its first occurrence:

  • Aztec cultivated agricultural islands known as chinampas in a system considered by some to be an early form of aquaponics for agricultural use, where plants were raised on stationary (or sometime movable) islands in lake shallows and waste materials dredged from the Chinampa canals and surrounding cities were used to manually irrigate the plants.
  • South China and the whole of Southeast Asia, where rice was cultivated and farmed in paddy fields in combination with fish, are cited as examples of early aquaponics systems, although the technology had been brought by Chinese settlers who had migrated from Yunnan around 5 AD. These polycultural farming systems existed in many Far Eastern countries and raised fish such as the oriental loach , swamp eel, common carp  and crucian carp  as well as pond snails in the paddies.
  • The 13th century Chinese agricultural manual Wang Zhen’s Book on Farming described floating wooden rafts which were piled with mud and dirt and which were used for growing rice, wild rice, and fodder. Such floating planters were employed in regions constituting the modern provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Fujian. These floating planters are known as either jiatian  or fengtian , which translates to “framed paddy” and “brassica paddy”, respectively. The agricultural work also references earlier Chinese texts, which indicated that floating raft rice cultivation was being used as early as the Tang Dynasty (6th century) and Northern Song Dynasty (8th century) periods of Chinese history.

Floating aquaponics systems on polycultural fish ponds have been installed in China in more recent years on a large scale. They are used to grow rice, wheat and canna lily and other crops, with some installations exceeding 2.5 acres (10,000 m2). Diagram of the University of the Virgin Islands commercial aquaponics system designed to yield 5 metric tons of Tilapia per year.

The development of modern aquaponics is often attributed to the various works of the New Alchemy Institute and the works of Dr. Mark McMurtry et al. at the North Carolina State University, who devised an “Integrated Aqua-Vegeculture System” (iAVs) based on the combination of aquaculture and sand-based grow beds.Inspired by the successes of the New Alchemy Institute and McMurtry’s iAVs, other institutes soon followed suit. Starting in 1979, Dr. James Rakocy and his colleagues at the University of the Virgin Islands researched and developed the use of deep water culture hydroponic grow beds in a large-scale aquaponics systemOther institutes focused their research on “ebb and flow” systems (also known as “flood and drain”), which were partially based on the original ideas developed at North Carolina State University, but where coarse media (such as gravel or expanded clay) replaced sand, while bell syphons allowed an ebb-and-flow irrigation cycle, such systems are also known as “Speraneo Systems” because they are based on ideas developed in the 1990s by Tom and Paula Speraneo, owners of an aquaponics farm in Missouri.

The first aquaponics research in Canada was a small system added onto existing aquaculture research at a research station in Lethbridge, Alberta. Canada saw a rise in aquaponics setups throughout the ’90s, predominantly as commercial installations raising high-value crops such as trout and lettuce. A setup based on the deepwater system developed at the University of Virgin Islands was built in a greenhouse at Brooks, Alberta where Dr. Nick Savidov and colleagues researched aquaponics from a background of plant science. The team made findings on rapid root growth in aquaponics systems and on closing the solid-waste loop and found that, owing to certain advantages in the system over traditional aquaculture, the system can run well at a low pH level, which is favored by plants but not fish.

Parts of an aquaponic system

A commercial aquaponics system. An electric pump moves nutrient-rich water from the fish tank through a solids filter to remove particles the plants above cannot absorb. The water then provides nutrients for the plants and is cleansed before returning to the fish tank below.

Aquaponics consists of two main parts, with the aquaculture part for raising aquatic animals and the hydroponics part for growing plants. Aquatic effluents, resulting from uneaten feed or raising animals like fish, accumulate in water due to the closed-system recirculation of most aquaculture systems. The effluent-rich water becomes toxic to the aquatic animal in high concentrations but this contains nutrients essential for plant growth.  Although consisting primarily of these two parts, aquaponics systems are usually grouped into several components or subsystems responsible for the effective removal of solid wastes, for adding bases to neutralize acids, or for maintaining water oxygenation. Typical components include:

  • Rearing tank: the tanks for raising and feeding the fish;
  • Settling basin: a unit for catching uneaten food and detached biofilms, and for settling out fine particulates;
  • Biofilter: a place where the nitrification bacteria can grow and convert ammonia into nitrates, which are usable by the plants;
  • Hydroponics subsystem: the portion of the system where plants are grown by absorbing excess nutrients from the water;
  • Sump: the lowest point in the system where the water flows to and from which it is pumped back to the rearing tanks.

Depending on the sophistication and cost of the aquaponics system, the units for solids removal, biofiltration, and/or the hydroponics subsystem may be combined into one unit or subsystem, which prevents the water from flowing directly from the aquaculture part of the system to the hydroponics part. By utilizing gravel or sand as plant supporting medium, solids are captured and the medium has enough surface area for fixed-film nitrification. The ability to combine biofiltration and hydroponics allows for aquaponic system, in many cases, to eliminate the need for an expensive, separate biofilter.

Live components

An aquaponic system depends on different live components to work successfully. The three main live components are plants, fish (or other aquatic creatures) and bacteria. Some systems also include additional live components like worms.

Plants

Further information: RhizofiltrationA Deep Water Culture hydroponics system where plant grow directly into the effluent rich water without a soil medium. Plants can be spaced closer together because the roots do not need to expand outwards to support the weight of the plant.Plant placed into a nutrient rich water channel in a Nutrient film technique (NFT) system

Many plants are suitable for aquaponic systems, though which ones work for a specific system depends on the maturity and stocking density of the fish. These factors influence the concentration of nutrients from the fish effluent and how much of those nutrients are made available to the plant roots via bacteria. Green leaf vegetables with low to medium nutrient requirements are well adapted to aquaponic systems, including chinese cabbage, lettuce, basil, spinach, chives, herbs, and watercress. Spinach seedlings, 5 days old, by aquaponics

Other plants, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, have higher nutrient requirements and will do well only in mature aquaponic systems with high stocking densities of fish.

Plants that are common in salads have some of the greatest success in aquaponics, including cucumbers, shallots, tomatoes, lettuce, capsicum, red salad onions and snow peas.

Some profitable plants for aquaponic systems include chinese cabbage, lettuce, basil, roses, tomatoes, okra, cantaloupe and bell peppers.

Other species of vegetables that grow well in an aquaponic system include watercress, basil, coriander, parsley, lemongrass, sage, beans, peas, kohlrabi, taro, radishes, strawberries, melons, onions, turnips, parsnips, sweet potato, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, and eggplant as well as the choys that are used for stir fries.

Fish (or other aquatic creatures)

Filtered water from the hydroponics system drains into a catfish tank for re-circulation.Main article: Aquaculture

Freshwater fish are the most common aquatic animal raised using aquaponics due to their ability to tolerate crowding, although freshwater crayfish and prawns are also sometimes used. There is a branch of aquaponics using saltwater fish, called saltwater aquaponics. There are many species of warm water and cold water fish that adapt well to aquaculture systems.

In practice, tilapia are the most popular fish for home and commercial projects that are intended to raise edible fish because it is a warmwater fish species that can tolerate crowding and changing water conditions. Barramundi, silver perch, eel-tailed catfish or tandanus catfish, jade perch and Murray cod are also used. For temperate climates when there isn’t ability or desire to maintain water temperature, bluegill and catfish are suitable fish species for home systems.

Koi and goldfish may also be used, if the fish in the system need not be edible.

Other suitable fish include channel catfish, rainbow trout, perch, common carp, Arctic char, largemouth bass and striped bass.

Bacteria

Further information: Nitrogen Cycle

Nitrification, the aerobic conversion of ammonia into nitrates, is one of the most important functions in an aquaponic system as it reduces the toxicity of the water for fish, and allows the resulting nitrate compounds to be removed by the plants for nourishment.  Ammonia is steadily released into the water through the excreta and gills of fish as a product of their metabolism, but must be filtered out of the water since higher concentrations of ammonia (commonly between 0.5 and 1 ppm)[citation needed] can impair growth, cause widespread damage to tissues, decrease resistance to disease and even kill the fish. Although plants can absorb ammonia from the water to some degree, nitrates are assimilated more easily, thereby efficiently reducing the toxicity of the water for fish.  Ammonia can be converted into safer nitrogenous compounds through combined healthy populations of 2 types of bacteria: Nitrosomonas which convert ammonia into nitrites, and Nitrobacter which then convert nitrites into nitrates. While nitrite is still harmful to fish due to its ability to create methemoglobin, which cannot bind oxygen, by attaching to hemoglobin, nitrates are able to be tolerated at high levels by fish. High surface area provides more space for the growth of nitrifying bacteria. Grow bed material choices require careful analysis of the surface area, price and maintainability considerations.

Hydroponic subsystem

Plants are grown as in hydroponics systems, with their roots immersed in the nutrient-rich effluent water. This enables them to filter out the ammonia that is toxic to the aquatic animals, or its metabolites. After the water has passed through the hydroponic subsystem, it is cleaned and oxygenated, and can return to the aquaculture vessels. This cycle is continuous. Common aquaponic applications of hydroponic systems include:

  • Deep-water raft aquaponics: styrofoam rafts floating in a relatively deep aquaculture basin in troughs. Raft tanks can be constructed to be quite large, and enable seedlings to be transplanted at one end of the tank while fully grown plants are harvested at the other, thus ensuring optimal floor space usage.
  • Recirculating aquaponics: solid media such as gravel or clay beads, held in a container that is flooded with water from the aquaculture. This type of aquaponics is also known as closed-loop aquaponics.[citation needed]
  • Reciprocating aquaponics: solid media in a container that is alternately flooded and drained utilizing different types of siphon drains. This type of aquaponics is also known as flood-and-drain aquaponics or ebb-and-flow aquaponics.
  • Nutrient film technique channels: plants are grown in lengthy narrow channels, with a film of nutrient-filled water constantly flowing past the plant roots. Due to the small amount of water and narrow channels, helpful bacteria cannot live there and therefore a bio filter is required for this method.
  • Other systems use towers that are trickle-fed from the top, horizontal PVC pipes with holes for the pots, plastic barrels cut in half with gravel or rafts in them. Each approach has its own benefits.

Since plants at different growth stages require different amounts of minerals and nutrients, plant harvesting is staggered with seedlings growing at the same time as mature plants. This ensures stable nutrient content in the water because of continuous symbiotic cleansing of toxins from the water.

Biofilter

In an aquaponics system, the bacteria responsible for the conversion of ammonia to usable nitrates for plants form a biofilm on all solid surfaces throughout the system that are in constant contact with the water. The submerged roots of the vegetables combined have a large surface area where many bacteria can accumulate. Together with the concentrations of ammonia and nitrites in the water, the surface area determines the speed with which nitrification takes place. Care for these bacterial colonies is important as to regulate the full assimilation of ammonia and nitrite. This is why most aquaponics systems include a biofiltering unit, which helps facilitate growth of these microorganisms. Typically, after a system has stabilized ammonia levels range from 0.25 to .50 ppm; nitrite levels range from 0.0 to 0.25 ppm, and nitrate levels range from 5 to 150 ppm. During system startup, spikes may occur in the levels of ammonia (up to 6.0 ppm) and nitrite (up to 15 ppm), with nitrate levels peaking later in the startup phase. In the nitrification process ammonia is oxidized into nitrite, which releases hydrogen ions into the water. Overtime a person’s pH will slowly drop, so they can use non-sodium bases such as potassium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide to neutralize the water’s pH if insufficient quantities are naturally present in the water to provide a buffer against acidification. In addition, selected minerals or nutrients such as iron can be added in addition to the fish waste that serves as the main source of nutrients to plants.

A good way to deal with solids buildup in aquaponics is the use of worms, which liquefy the solid organic matter so that it can be utilized by the plants and/or other animals in the system. For a worm-only growing method, please see Vermiponics.

Operation

The five main inputs to the system are water, oxygen, light, feed given to the aquatic animals, and electricity to pump, filter, and oxygenate the water. Spawn or fry may be added to replace grown fish that are taken out from the system to retain a stable system. In terms of outputs, an aquaponics system may continually yield plants such as vegetables grown in hydroponics, and edible aquatic species raised in an aquaculture. Typical build ratios are .5 to 1 square foot of grow space for every 1 U.S. gal (3.8 L) of aquaculture water in the system. 1 U.S. gal (3.8 L) of water can support between .5 lb (0.23 kg) and 1 lb (0.45 kg) of fish stock depending on aeration and filtration.

Ten primary guiding principles for creating successful aquaponics systems were issued by Dr. James Rakocy, the director of the aquaponics research team at the University of the Virgin Islands, based on extensive research done as part of the Agricultural Experiment Station aquaculture program.

Feed source

As in most aquaculture based systems, stock feed often consists of fish meal derived from lower-value species. Ongoing depletion of wild fish stocks makes this practice unsustainable. Organic fish feeds may prove to be a viable alternative that relieves this concern. Other alternatives include growing duckweed with an aquaponics system that feeds the same fish grown on the system, excess worms grown from vermiculture composting, using prepared kitchen scraps, as well as growing black soldier fly larvae to feed to the fish using composting grub growers.

Aquaponic installations rely in varying degrees on man-made energy, technological solutions, and environmental control to achieve recirculation and water/ambient temperatures. However, if a system is designed with energy conservation in mind, using alternative energy and a reduced number of pumps by letting the water flow downwards as much as possible, it can be highly energy efficient. While careful design can minimize the risk, aquaponics systems can have multiple ‘single points of failure’ where problems such as an electrical failure or a pipe blockage can lead to a complete loss of fish stock.

5 Writs in Indian Constitution

Know about how to voice for your rights, legal bounds, and solve wrong conducts or mistakes by legal officials.

Writs! What do you mean by writs?

In common law, a writ is a formal written order issued by a body with administrative or judicial jurisdiction; in modern usage, this body is generally a court. Warrants, prerogative writs, and subpoenas are common types of writ, but many forms exist and have existed.

Why are Writs needed?

It is a constitutional remedy available to a person to bring his complaint or grievance against any administrative action to the notice of the court.

Types of Writs:

  • Writ of Habeas Corpus
  • Writ of Mandamus
  • Writ of Certiora
  • Writ of Prohibition
  • Writ of Quo-Warranto,

WRIT OF HABEAS CORPUS

It is also known as the “great writ”

Habeas Corpus means “Let us have the body.”. In other words, it means “you may have the body” which means that a person under arrest is to be brought before a judge or into court. It is an important writ for personal liberty. A person, who is arrested, can move the Court for the issue of Habeas Corpus.

It is an order by a Court to the detaining authority to produce the arrested person before it so that it may examine whether the person has been detained lawfully or not. It ensures that a prisoner can be released from detention if the Court is convinced that the person is illegally detained—that is, detention lacking sufficient cause or evidence.

The person under arrest or any another person on his behalf can file a writ in this. Formal and informal applications in respect of the writ is accepted by the Courts. It is only a procedural remedy and does not necessarily protect other rights, such as the entitlement to a fair trial. A person cannot make the application for the Writ successively to different judges of the same court.

In India, writs are issued by the Supreme Court under Article 32 of the Constitution of India and by the High Court under Article 226 of the Constitution of India.

Writ of Mandamus:

Mandamus means “We Command”. Mandamus is an order from a superior court to a lower court or tribunal or public authority to perform an act, within its duty. In short, it is an order to perform a duty which should have done but failed to do so.  It is the discretionary power of a court. It is simply to ensure rights are ensured and the Government Authorities perform their duties.

The writ of mandamus can be granted when there is right to compel the performance of some duty cast upon the authority. It can also be issued to public authority to restrain it from acting under a law which has been declared unconstitutional. The petitioner has a right recognized by law.

The writ cannot be granted when

  • Duty is not compulsory.
  • Against a private individual, private organization since they are not entrusted with public duty.
  • To enforce an obligation arising out of contract.
  • Where the right of the petitioner has lapsed

Writ of Certiora

Certiorari means to be certified. The Writ of Certiorari can be issued by the Supreme Court or any High Court for retracting the order which is already passed by an inferior court and to properly investigate the matter and opinions objectively. A writ of certiorari is only granted when a Court has acted without or in excess of its jurisdiction and For correcting error of law. It cannot lie to remove merely ministerial act or to remove/cancel executive administrative acts. It is corrective in nature which means the purpose of this Writ is to correct an error.

When there is an error apparent on the record, it becomes a valid ground for issuing the Writ of Certiorari.

Certiorari can be resorted to only after the order or decision has been announced.

Writ of Prohibition

Writ of prohibition means to cease or to stop. it is also known as a ‘Stay Order’. When a lower court or a body tries to perform an action outside its jurisdiction, This Writ issued by a superior court to lower court or a tribunal to prohibit or forbidden it to do so. The Supreme Court can issue this Writ only where a fundamental right is affected.

In cases where the court is partly acting within its jurisdiction and partly outside it, the Writ will be issued against the act which is partly outside its jurisdiction. This Writ can be issued only when the proceedings are pending in the inferior court and not when an order has already been passed by that court. The Writ of Certiorari can be issued only when the order has passed.

Writ of Quo-Warranto

The word Quo-Warranto literally means “by what warrants?” and ‘by what authority’. It is issued restraining a person from acting in a public office to which is out of bounds. The business or the office in question is public office. The issue of summon is followed by legal proceedings, during which an individual’s right to hold an office or governmental privilege is challenged.

Grounds on what it is issued.

The nature of the duties which arises from this office is public. The person against whom the Writ is sought to be issued is in actual possession of the office and is using such office.

Migration(Keki Daruwalla)- Critical appreciation

Migrations are always difficult:
ask any drought,
any plague;
ask the year 1947.
Ask the chronicles themselves:
if there had been no migrations
would there have been enough
history to munch on?

Going back in time is also tough.
Ask anyone back-trekking to Sargodha
or Jhelum or Mianwali and they’ll tell you.
New faces among old brick;
politeness, sentiment,
dripping from the lips of strangers.
This is still your house, Sir.

And if you meditate on time
that is no longer time –
(the past is frozen, it is stone,
that which doesn’t move
and pulsate is not time) –
if you meditate on that scrap of time,
the mood turns pensive
like the monsoons
gathering in the skies
but not breaking.

Mother used to ask, don’t you remember my mother?
You’d be in the kitchen all the time
and run with the fries she ladled out,
still sizzling on the plate.
Don’t you remember her at all?
Mother’s fallen face
would fall further
at my impassivity.
Now my dreams ask me
If I remember my mother
And I am not sure how I’ll handle that.
Migrating across years is also difficult.

The writer Keki Daruwalla, starts right off referring to general crisis to help the readers to relate to his point of view (ask any…). He continues adding points that evokes a sense of a dramatic event (ask the chronicles). He slowly turns his narrative tone to a descriptive tone in order to deliver the sentiment right (Going back in time…sentiment dripping).

On the very next paragraph the writer talks about how difficult and sad it is to forget their good times in a creative manner with beautiful use of metaphor (like the monsoons gathering)

On the final paragraph, he brings the readers a step closer to his feelings by talking about family, flashing a dull theme on their minds. He explains how hard is to forget how his mother even looks and realizing how his mother would have felt when she asks the writer if he remembers her mother. This sentence also explains how long the entire partition process took. He finishes off his poem with these final words, “migrating across years is also difficult” where he clarifies all doubt and clearly states that it was all about the psychology effects and issues which trouble the people more than the migration itself.

Overall his poem talks about the leftover side of the “Partition” and adds weightage to it on the histories of India!

MENSTRUATION

We don’t know who was the first human to take birth on this earth. For a human to take birth, it would require two other human beings. It is a classic chicken and egg problem.
Scientifically humans didn't take birth; they evolved from a single cellular amoeba found in deep oceans. As we know, monkeys and chimpanzees were our ancestors. We have evolved from them.
Either mammals, birds or reptiles in any category of living creatures the birth is always given by females. Female birds lay eggs. Female reptiles lay eggs. A female mammal keeps her baby in the womb and gives birth to the young one. So is with humans.
A female human body too lays eggs in her ovary duct every month but the eggs cannot get fertilized on their own. They need an external source i.e sperm of a male. When it enters into the ovary and collaborates with the egg, it forms a fetus which after 9 months grows into a complete baby in the mother's womb.
If the eggs are not fertilized, a layer of blood breaks down and comes out of the body every month and lasts for minimum 3 days and maximum 7 days. This is called the menstruation cycle.
When a girl attains puberty at the age of 13, that means now she is biologically eligible for giving birth to a baby, she has started to lay eggs in her body. Her menstruation cycle has begun.
Blood comes out of the body for 4-5 days on an average, and that's uncertain so a girl has to use sanitary pads and napkins to control that blood. If she doesn't use that, controlling the flow becomes difficult and it seems to be very unhygienic.
Nowadays sanitary pads are available in the market, which gives comfort and hygiene to the girls. In early times no such pads were available and hence those 4 days were hard to pass. Women have to remain seated most of the time. Especially in the context of India.
Even today in many villages of India, these pads are unavailable. Ladies and girls aren't aware of using these products as well as their hygiene. Many NGOs in India are working to spread awareness among the rural areas. They distribute pads free of cost, and teach them how to use it.
In ancient times this cycle was considered as a subject of shame and something which is very impure and dirty. A girl who was in this cycle of period, was given a corner of the house to sit. She was given a separate mat to sleep on, a plate to eat, and a glass of water to drink, which nobody would touch. She cannot sit beside anyone in the house. Entering into kitchens and temples was also restricted. It was believed that if a girl who is on her periods touched anything, that thing would become impure.
Looks like no matter how educated we may be, we continue to surrender to the ancient system and culture especially when it is related to religion.
The people of earlier times were uneducated and unfamiliar with this biological concept and hence they would have assumed according to their level of understanding.
People in India are never ready to accept the change, except very few. People don't want to change according to time's demand. Even if they are enlightened with the knowledge they cannot leave those old rules and rituals which were created because of lack of knowledge.
Even today except a few families all follow the same thinking which is mentioned above. The sad thing is that this is despite being educated, familiar with the reality of this process, well known about the biological process behind this. These people are more illiterate than those who were in earlier times. They are educated but uneducated fools.
For some girls this is something to be shameful of. If accidently she faces leakage and stain it becomes something shameful for them. She feels insecure because people around them make her feel so.
People here need to understand that it's not an easy task to give birth to any woman. From the age of 12-55 she has to face the pain she faces during this menstruation cycle, and above that feel isolated from family members and insecure among society. After this when she carries a baby in her womb for 9 months the problem she has to face is out of our imagination. The pain she experiences while delivering a baby is the most painful experience one can bear. It needs so much courage to face that, and a woman faces it, which is really appreciable.
Menstruation is not a subject of shame. It's the most necessary biological cycle without which no reproduction is possible. The people on this earth are partial but this universe has always been unbiased. It has made the sperm of men equal to the egg of women. Both are useless without each other, both need each other for reproduction.

Animals that can go extinct by 2050

Climate change is real and happening rapidly causing our ecosystem to change drastically. As a result of this and poaching many animals can go extinct in next thirty years if we don’t do something about it. Scientists have said that this mass extinction might be the worse one our planet has had since the disappearance of dinosaurs.

Here is a list of few animals which can go extinct by 2050 if changes aren’t made.

Rhinos

All species of Rhinos face a risk now due to illegal poaching as their horns hold great value. Northern white rhino has only three left and Javan Rhino has merely 60. Steps need to be taken to protect them and it’s possible. The white Rhino was also on verge of extinction but due to conservation programs of South Africa their numbers have grown up to over 20,000. So donate and volunteer to make change.

Polar Bears

They may not yet be listed in endangered but their species are the one which is affected by climate change the most. Due to melting of ice they are forced to migrate for food and hence their habitat can soon be completely destroyed if nothing is being done about it. Evidence also states that some of them started mating with grizzly bears after migrating to less tropical zones and hence their pure species might as well go extinct. One important step people can take is participate in programs to reduce emission of greenhouse gases.

Gorillas

Currently four species of gorilla are listed as endangered. Cross river gorilla at less than 300, Eastland lowland gorilla whose population have gone down by 50 percent, and the mountain gorilla whose population is less than 900. The biggest threat to them is considered poaching, and habitat loss— due to mine digging. Western lowland gorillas are considered in critical state of being endangered due to Ebola virus, poaching and habitat loss. WWF organization helps to their cause and you can provide your assistance through donations.

Cheetahs

In over a century the total number of cheetah have gone down from over 100 thousand to less than ten thousand. The main threat to them is habitat loss. Cheetah conservation fund helps to their cause and you can volunteer and donate to give your assistant.

Orangutans

Both the species of Orangutan; Sumatran and Bornean are considered as endangered due to deforestation, hunting for bushmeat and wildlife trade. To support to the cause you can assist Orangutan foundation by donating and volunteering.

Sumatran Tigers

Their number is merely less than 500 now and due to habitat loss they are extremely endangered. They are a common victim of illegal poaching and wildlife trade. To help them Leonardo DiCaprio foundation and WWF came together for combined effort of doubling up the number of tigers by 2022. You can assist the cause by donating and volunteering.

FITNESS

The world has developed too much, everybody is running in the race of achieving success. Everybody wants to earn, achieve their dreams, and lead a good standard of life.
Earlier the population of the world was not so large and in that most of the people lived in rural areas doing a small job of agriculture, some of them would go to urban areas and cities for doing work or for their studies.
Earlier there was not much competition for getting a job, for being successful, or for earning. Living a life was not so difficult for the people of that era.
As the time passed the world developed, the race for earning and getting a job, getting success became too hard. In today’s time no one is less than anybody. Everybody is developing along with the technology. Everyone has one unique talent. Everybody is trying to be the best.
Everybody on this earth faces struggle. A student struggles to get into a good college. A graduate struggles to get a job. An employee struggles to get a promotion. An employer struggles for the best employee. Each one of us has to face difficulties in our life.
While dealing with all this stuff of life one has totally forgotten the importance of health both physical as well as mental. As people are getting technologically advanced the health issues are also increasing. People cannot maintain themselves emotionally and mentally fit. Fitness has become a least priority for everybody.
Those who can earn well, are financially strong, may be suffering from so many diseases. Some may have cancer. Some may have diabetes. Some may be heart patients. Some may be having other mental issues. All these have led to a decrease in the number of years of living.
It is said that earlier people used to live in an environment of fresh air in the village as there was no urbanization and industrialization at that time. People used to eat fresh vegetables which were harvested by zero fertilizers and pesticides, grown totally organically. Also people used to drink natural milk, and eat pure butter made at home. They used to eat all the grains which were grown totally naturally.
Nowadays as people have shifted towards urbanization and population is increasing day by day so is the demand for all the edible goods and goods. Hence nothing is available pure and organic. Everything which is available in the market, whether it is milk, curd, butter, grains, wheat, vegetables, food and many more things consists of chemicals in some quantity.
Your eating habits as well as your daily schedule has a very high impact on mental and physical health. One must always be concerned about what he/she is eating. One must always follow a proper diet which consists of all the essential nutrients. So that body doesn't face any kind of deficiency.
Everything on this earth should be balanced. One must eat everything in a balanced quantity. It should not be like eating salad everyday. It should also not be like eating junk food all day. In both conditions the body is affected.
Earlier when our parents were kids, they didn't have shops or edibles like pizza, burger, maggie, French fries, momos and many more things which are foreign products. When they go to the market, the best thing their parents could buy them is sweets and that made them so happy.
Nowadays kids and teenagers are attracted towards all the junk foods which are also not India originated and they have made it a habit. They don't like vegetables, salad, chapati and fruits. All they want is pizza, burger, pasta and noodles, which affects their health so badly. The taste of these foods has been stuck on their tongues.
It is said that if a person eats well at a young age, has a healthy diet and has got all the essential nutrients, he/she will not face any of the big diseases in his life, because what you eat in childhood and the nourishment you get when your metabolism, muscles, tissues and bones are growing lasts forever till the end of your life.
A good diet helps you to increase your immune system which supports your body and cells to fight against any of the diseases and infected viruses attacking your body. In this pandemic time when coronavirus has affected everybody's life, lucky are those who have fought with the virus even without getting admitted. It's all because of a good immune system. Many times when the season switches specially in India, some people's bodies adapt to the changing environment easily and some get sick. This non adoption is because of a low immune system.
In the Indian history and vedas, the importance of yoga and asanas is very much highlighted. The Hindu saints do penance in the mountains of himalayas and have led a life of more than 150 years. One who has practiced yoga and exercise in his/her life is always a fit human physically as well as mentally. Yoga is one of the best forms to burst up your stress. It keeps you fresh and active.
Walking 10,000 steps a day never allows your heart to fail. It never allows your body to slow down . Doing exercise in the early morning makes you happy and makes your day a better day. It makes you work with enthusiasm the whole day.
One should be disciplined in how much he/she is eating, when he/she is eating, when he/she is sleeping, when he/she is waking. It is said early to bed, early to rise, makes one healthy and wise.  If one wants to be fit and stress free with no pain and headaches, he/she must sleep on time and wake up on time because when you inhale fresh air in the early morning and get sun rays of sunrise it keeps you calm and shining the entire day.
For being fit and being healthy one must have willpower, dedication and sincerity towards the schedule and exercises he/she is doing. Laziness is the biggest enemy of a human. Even if one initiates to be a fitness freak, continuing it and not skipping a single day is the biggest  challenge. Starting to exercise is quite easy for once but maintaining it consistently is so difficult.
As technology is developing people are losing their health. Each year lakhs of people die because of fat in their body. Many people lose their life due to various other diseases which can be avoided by just implementing some seriousness towards health, dedication towards schedule and leading a disciplined life.

Archaic Greek Sculptures

The earliest enormous stone figures (kouroi – naked male adolescents and kore-dressed female figures) were inflexible as in Egyptian fantastic sculptures with the arms held directly along the edges, the feet are practically together and the eyes gaze vacantly ahead with no specific outward appearance. These fairly static figures gradually developed however and with ever more prominent subtleties added to hair and muscles, the figures started to become animated.

Gradually, arms become somewhat bowed giving them solid pressure and one leg (as a rule the right) is put marginally more forward, giving a feeling of dynamic development to the sculpture. Magnificent instances of this style of the figure are the kouroi of Argos, committed at Delphi (c. 580 BCE). Around 480 BCE, the last kouroi become perpetually life-like, the weight is carried on the left leg, the correct hip is lower, the posterior and shoulders looser, the head isn’t exactly so inflexible, and there is a trace of a grin. Female kore followed a comparable development, especially in the chiselling of their garments which were delivered in an always practical and complex manner. A more regular extent of the figure was additionally settled where the head got 1:7 with the body, independent of the genuine size of the sculpture. By 500 BCE Greek stone carvers were at long last splitting ceaselessly from the unbending principles of Obsolete applied workmanship and starting to recreate what they really saw, all things considered.

In the Traditional time frame, Greek artists would sever the shackles of the show and accomplish what nobody else had ever before endeavored. They made a daily existence size and life-like model which celebrated the human and particularly bare male structure. Considerably more, was accomplished than this, however. Marble ended up being a magnificent mechanism for delivering what all stone workers make progress toward that is to cause the piece to appear to be cut from within instead of etched from an external perspective. Figures become exotic and seem solidified in real life; it appears to be that lone every second prior they were really alive. Appearances are given more articulation and entire figures strike a specific mindset. Garments too become more inconspicuous in their delivery and stick to the shapes of the body in what has been depicted as ‘wind-blown’ or the ‘wet-look. Simply, the models no longer appeared to be designs except for were figures ingrained with life and verve.

Messi left Barcelona, joins French club PSG with a contract of 2 years

Lionel Messi officially has a new team, joining French power Paris Saint-Germain following 21 years spent with Barcelona. Messi signed a two-year contract with PSG with the option of an extra year, and he will reportedly earn $41 million annually.Messi, 34, will wear the number 30, the number he had when he began his professional career at Barca, and is set to be unveiled by PSG at a press conference they have called for 11:00 am (0900 GMT) Wednesday.

Messi, who was a free agent after his shock departure from boyhood club Barcelona last week, landed at Le Bourget airport to the north of Paris on Tuesday afternoon. There he was greeted by hundreds of PSG supporters who had gathered hoping to catch a glimpse of their new signing. Those fans also gathered outside the club’s Parc des Princes home and near a plush hotel in the city where Messi along with wife Antonella and their three children are expected to be staying.Messi waved to crowds while sporting a Paris t-shirt on his arrival at the airport before being taken for his medical.

Barcelona sent shockwaves across the soccer world when it announced five days prior that it couldn’t afford to re-sign the 34-year-old, and PSG moved quickly to secure the services of the six-time FIFA Player of the Year.Messi joins close friend and former Barcelona teammate, Neymar, as well as rising star Kylian Mbappe at PSG, along with a host of other big names assembled by the deep-pocketed PSG ownership group. The goal is clear: Help PSG win a UEFA Champions League for the first time in club history.

Messi: “Impatient to start”

“I am impatient to start a new chapter of my career in Paris”, Messi told the PSG website . “The club and its vision are in perfect harmony with my ambitions. I know how talented the players and staff are here. I am determined to build, alongside them, something great for the club and for the fans. I can’t wait to set foot on the Parc des Princes pitch.”

“I am delighted that Lionel Messi has chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain and we are proud to welcome him to Paris, with his family,” said Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club president.

“He did not hide his desire to continue to evolve at the highest level and to win trophies. The ambition of the club is of course identical. The addition of Leo to our world-class team confirms the relevance and success of our recruitment. Together with our great coach and his staff, I look forward to seeing our team make history for all of our supporters around the world.”

Messi’s father Jorge, who is also his agent, had earlier confirmed the inevitable as he arrived at Barcelona’s El Prat airport to board a flight to France.Asked by reporters if his son would sign for the French club, he replied: “Yes”.

PSG’s move for Messi had been an open secret for days, although reports in Spain on Monday night talked of a “final offer” by Barcelona to try to keep the player.Instead, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner will join a PSG attack already featuring Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.Qatar-backed PSG see Messi as the missing piece in their jigsaw as they chase the Champions League, the trophy they want more than anything else.”Back together,” Neymar, who played with Messi at Barcelona before moving to PSG in 2017, posted on Twitter.

Messi left Barcelona as the club’s record scorer with 672 goals, having also helped them to seven Copa del Rey titles and three Club World Cups during his 17-year career at the Catalan club.

Reason for leaving Barcelona

Messi’s next move has been a topic of heated debate ever since he handed in a transfer request at Camp Nou at the end of the 2019-20 campaign, with Manchester City, Inter Milan and MLS club Inter Miami all reportedly interested in prying him away from the Spanish club.Messi reluctantly stayed for an extra season at Barcelona, refusing to take the club to court to get out of the contract, and he helped Barcelona win one final title, the Copa del Rey. When his contract expired on June 30, it made him a free agent and eventually led to the end of his 21-year career in Catalunya.

The Argentina international’s vast experience and insatiable hunger for major silverware could prove invaluable for PSG as it bids for success on both domestic and European fronts in 2021-22.Head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be expected to wrestle the Ligue 1 title back from Lille and take the club all the way in Europe, with Messi set to complete a mouth-watering front three alongside Neymar and World Cup winner Mbappe.

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN- MOVIE REVIEW

Right within the first ten minutes of this movie, you could tell that this wasn’t just going to be another generic war movie with heavy reliance on explosions or the excitement of the protagonist killing some Nazis. This film is meant to truly depict the horrors of wars and not just Hollywoodize the whole experience. Steven Spielberg helms this project beautifully, in the sense of not only accurately depicting what took place on that fateful day but also the mental stature of the soldiers going through it all. I also thoroughly enjoyed some of the artistic elements that Spielberg had to offer. I thought the eerie silence amidst all the explosion and gunfire panning across the casualties added a new degree of morbid realism. Though most of this movie is pretty dreary (as it is meant to be), whenever there is even a glimmer of hope for our protagonist there is just a profound feeling of happiness. This movie just magnifies your emotions that even the simplest laugh or just listening to a song just puts a smile on your face. Tom Hanks puts on a wonderful performance really depicting what a Captain might be going through physically and emotionally, at a time like this, coupled with his interesting character arc and characteristics . I felt the score by John Williams was strategically used, only to add more weight to a scene when it needed it, and not vacuously like so many other movies. The last thing I would like to praise is the masterful camera work and the adroit use of the hand held cam, adding to the realism. My only problems with the movie is that it appeared to drag a bit towards the end and its expandable crew.
