SELF CONFIDENCE

Self-confidence is defined as a feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities, and judgement. Self confidence can help you become successful in your personal and professional life.

Having self-confidence can bring many benefits – at home, at work, and within your relationships. Few of the positive effects self-confidence can have on your life.

1.Healthy relationships: Self confidence helps you better understand and love others. It also gives you strength to walk away if you’re not getting what you deserve.

2.Better performance: You’ll perform better when you feel confident. Rather than waste energy and time worrying that you aren’t good enough, you can devote your energy to your efforts.

3.Openness to try new things: When you have confidence in yourself and your abilities, you’re more willing to try new things.

4.Resillience: Believing in yourself can enhance your resilience, or ability to bounce back from any challenges or adversities you face in life.

There are things you can do to boost your self-confidence. When you struggle to feel confident about

anything, these strategies can help.

WAYS TO BUILD YOUR SELF-CONFIDENCE

  1. Surround yourself with Positive people: The people you spend time with influence your thoughts and attitudes about yourself more than you think. Surround yourself with people who love you and want the best for you.
  2. Take care of your body: If you practice self care, you know you’re doing something positive for your mind, body, and spirit, and you’ll naturally feel more confident.
  3. Practice positive self talk: Using self talk can help you build self confidence, overcome self-doubt, and take on new challenges. On the other hand, negative self-talk can limit your abilities and lessen your confidence.
  4. Face your fears: Stop putting things off until you feel more confident. The best way to build your confidence is by facing your fears.

Steps to improve waste disposal methods

The population of humans is increasing at a rapid rate due to which the wastes produced by them are increasing at a significant phase. Recycling is the only way to make the situation better. We all are aware of this fact, but the efforts we put into recycling are at rock bottom. Either by knowingly or unknowingly we do a lot of mistakes that are worsening the existing circumstances. So, let’s have an understanding of the steps we need to follow to improve the waste disposal process and thus contribute to a better future.

Steps to be followed in our homes:

Our homes are the starting point of the wastes which are dumped in huge piles across the country. Everyday morning we cut the edges of milk packets and throw them away unaware of the fact that it could turn into a huge threat to society. Recently Karnataka Vice President tweeted that if Bangalore alone cuts the milk packet without tearing the corning edge 50,00,000 pieces of wastes can be saved. She says that if the edges are being cut, it’s difficult to recycle those pieces even if they are properly segregated. Also, these pieces easily get missed out while transportation and they cause huge trouble by clogging in public drainages.

Segregation of bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste is the primary step to be followed in waste disposal which most of us do not pay full attention to. Place two separate bins in your house and make sure every member of your house pays attention while disposing of the waste. If you live in apartments or societies encourage everyone to practice waste segregation in a proper manner. Those who are maintaining gardens at your house, reuse the plastic bottles and buckets in your house for planting and use the waste food as manure to the soil.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle:

“All wastes must be viewed as a recycling opportunity” – Beezer Molten

The more effort paid to recycle or reuse the products, the more sustainable our future is. Both in your house and in your workplace find ways to reuse and recycle products. Encourage your children to actively participate in the cleaning of public places like beaches in order to make them understand the importance of recycling.

There are startups that actively build products that are recycled and are cool to fit in our lifestyles. Some of such startups are as follows:

  1. Econiture: is a Bangalore-based startup that turns recycled plastic into beautiful home decor and furniture.
  2. Anthill creations: is an IIT alumni based startup where they use old tyres and plastics and turn them into beautiful playgrounds and libraries.
  3. Trashcon: is an emerging startup that collects, plastics, segregates it using robots and turns them into home and office furniture.

There are products that could be used as an alternative to our everyday plastics such as wooden combs, toothbrushes, pens etc. Many companies are producing such ecofriendly products nowadays. Let us all support their initiative by purchasing from them.

Discrimination- Still a social issue

Discrimination is such a social issue that is prevalent in India from a long time. Though Indian Law describes discrimination as punishable crime under Civil Right Act 1964, we often see many cases of it. Why is this so?? Why even after so many years of evolution and development we see such social issues?? All the answers to these questions lies in our foundation and environment that we grow in.

From the very start of growth many children are not taught the difference between “leg pulling” and discrimination. Many young as well as elderly people discriminate people and remark it as a “joke.” For instance calling someone “black” just for fun seems funny but in reality it is a huge social drawback. This shows how much we lack education. Recent incident of “youtuber Paras Singh calling Arunachal Pradesh a Chinese Territory” proves the fact. Though he apologized and realized his mistakes , no one can neglect the fact that this incident would not have occurred if we were more cautious and educated.

There is a huge hole in our mindset and its needed to be filled before it eat us all. A discriminated person faces huge mental trauma and may have a severe impact. We need to be more sensitive while dealing with such topics. Educating children from the young age  as well as educating ourselves on such topic may bring a huge change in near future. It is well known that discrimination have a long history and it will not eradicate instantly. But taking small steps today will bring major change in near future

Social Control and Self-Control Theory of Crime Causation

Sociologists, psychologists, and criminologists have been attempting to explain delinquent behavior for decades. Despite their tireless efforts and vast expertise, a perfect explanation for delinquent behavior has yet to emerge. Only after a comprehensive examination of the literature dedicated to the search for a single answer does one come to the conclusion that it simply does not exist. Rather, there is universal agreement and evidence that crime is the outcome of a combination of causes rather than a single factor. Whatever its perspective, a comprehensive theory of crime must explain how delinquent patterns of behavior form, what causes people to engage in a delinquent manner, and what sustains their delinquent behaviors. So, Travis Hirschi developed “Social Control Theory” and “Self-Control Theory” in an attempt to encapsulate crime. Hirschi collaborated with Michael Gottfredson to create the latter theory.

Social control theory and self control theory are two theories that explain why some people choose to act on deviant behavior while others do not. Both have opposing yet similar viewpoints on the subject. According to social control theory, people’s behavior is influenced by their social ties; if they have strong ties to society, they will adapt, whereas if they don’t, they will act out or engage in criminal or violent behavior. Individuals are inherently driven to deviate, according to the theory, and will do so unless they are constrained by strong ties to society. This distinguishes the theory from self-control theory, which claims that individuals are socialized to create a personality marked by low self-control throughout their early years of life, and they will have this trait with them for the rest of their life.

According to the social control theory, weak relationships, such as attachment, lead to criminal behavior. Teenagers form strong ties with their friends in some cases, but this type of attachment can be dangerous. They are frequently concerned about being accepted by their peers and will participate in delinquent behavior to acquire acceptance. In example, a lack of parent–child connection during adolescence, especially in the middle, is likely to lead to an increase in peer association. This is also true of the self-control theory, which claims that a child’s level of self-control is predicted by the style of parenting an individual received. Children whose parents provide them with inadequate parental supervision will have low levels of self-control, making them more inclined to participate in criminal behavior. Because commitment is a key component of both theories, the self-control theory and the social control theory are similar. Individuals with poor self-control crave rapid pleasure, and commitment clashes with their drive for the “here and now.” According to these theories, a person who lacks commitment is more prone to engage in deviant behavior. Both the self-control and social control theories point to beliefs as a factor for people not committing crimes. Individuals who are extremely devout may be subjected to stricter constraints in order to combat criminal temptations. Having a strong belief and value system gives significant rewards for self-control, making it easier to resist impulsive behavior temptation. Both theories appear to have survived the test of time and operate concurrently to provide a basic explanation for individual deviant behavior. Although there are some existing inconsistencies and contradictions between the two theories, the depth of their complementary relationship cannot be underestimated, especially since it has not been stated that the Social Control Theory and Self-Control Theory are inherently incompatible.

MEDITATION

The practice of meditation has become popular in many Western nation’s, especially the USA. Meditation originated within the Vedas. The term ‘meditation’ is now loosely wont to ask sizable amount of diverse techniques. These include contemplation, concentration, and even breathing exercises. These techniques work on different levels like the senses, mind and intellect. consistent with Vedanta , truth purpose of meditation is to attach to one’s inner self. Meditation is defined because the mind repeating one thought to the exclusion of the other thought under the supervision of the intellect. If the intellect isn’t conscious of the method , it’s not meditation.

Renunciation or sannyasa is that the essential prerequisite to meditation. many of us are conversant in the term but only a couple of understand it’s true meaning and it’s role in life . One associates sannyasa with abandoning things that are dear to you. A sannyasi is viewed as an individual in ochre robes who has given up wealth and family, abandoned duties and responsibilities and retired to the Himalayas . Krishna defines a sannyasi within the sixth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita together who does what one need to do, performs one’s duties and responsibilities fully , without counting on the fruit of action . A sannyasi isn’t one who doesn’t higher ideal, neither is he an inactive person.

There are four sorts of people within the world. The overwhelming majority belong to the bhogi category. Their only mission in life is to enjoy the planet . They believe you’re born only to enjoys the senses and maximise enjoyment. they are going into the planet seeking objects of desire. alittle minority understand that life offers far more than mere sensual pleasures . they appear inward and upward to seek out deeper and more meaningful avenues of happiness . Of these , the spiritual freshmen are yogis who still have desires for the planet but understand that happiness lies within. Their efforts are therein direction. As they shed desires through Karma Yoga Path of Service , Bhakti Yoga Path of Devotion and Jnana Yoga Path of data , they become sannyasis who are withdrawn from the planet and are knocking at the gates of Enlightenment . they need only a few , subtle desires – to urge to Freedom , serve humanity and repay the guru who guided who guided them to the spiritual path. Such people only got to meditate to beat the last hurdle to Enlightenment.

Meditation is quite just shutting one’s eyes and getting temporary reprieve from life’s problems. it’s the very best spiritual technique that must be practised diligently and devotedly by qualified practitioners. you’re fit meditation when your mind is calm . A mind burdened with desire and attachment is unable to require off into subtler realms of meditation.

In the Bhagavad Gita , Krishna takes us through the preparatory disciplines foe meditation. He also gives the disqualifications for meditation. Then comes the test of Enlightened Soul feels one with all beings. As you see yourself altogether mirrors. A body-conscious person identifies with the mind. His circle of oneness expands to incorporate relations and friends.

Among all yogis, one who worship wholeheartedly and with a transparent purpose , who maintains the goal in the least times and strives diligently, is most united. Thus, a person – literature or illiterate, elite or commoner, regardless of caste, race, religion or background – is aware about the last word state of Infinite Happiness.

MOANA – BOOK REVIEW

Moana is more than just a novelization of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film. In addition to retelling the story, it adds traditional oceanic folk tales between select chapters to highlight the stories that inspired the filmmakers. Adapted by Kari Sutherland, the book is dedicated to all of the people of the Pacific Islands who helped Disney craft this beautiful tale.

Moana’s people are in jeopardy as the fish supply around her island dwindles. When she answers the call of the ocean and follows in her ancestors’ wayfinding traditions, she ends up on an incredible adventure to save her people with the help of a shape shifting demigod named Maui. Now this unlikely duo will have to face real monsters to restore peace to Oceania.

The theme of Moana is self discovery and finding your way. The story is wonderfully written. It follows Moana and her journey of discovering who she is and saving her village. She meets up with Maui(a demi god), and they go on an adventure of self discovery.

This book tells the entire story of Moana. The story gives the reader excellent details about Moana’s growing up. Moana’s gramma tells the tale of the warrior Maui being struck from the sky and losing his fish hook. The tale continues because TeFiti lost her heart. Thus the darkness, lack of fish in the ocean, and the TeKa demons take over the island and the livelihood of the island.
Although this is not an illustrated book, the text is so rich in descriptive language that the reader will easily be able to use their mind to see the action in the story.
The reader will see Moana’s challenges as she tries to solve the problems and face TeKa. She convinces Maui to help even with out his magical fish hook.
Moana’s story is one of perseverance, love of family, devotion to a cause, and courage. I am eager to see the Disney movie now that I have read this story.

There’s no romantic love interest.

But Moana is special, because she don’t need no man! She’s on her own journey to figure out who she is and her place in the world.

Moana is an inspiring, captivating story and this novelization does an incredible job of bringing it to life in a different way. Not only is it a solid story, but it has a tremendous amount of heart and is surprisingly funny. I really loved the short stories peppered throughout, which add a lot of color and culture to the book. The book’s design also adds to the effect with artwork before each chapter that matches the look of Maui’s tattoos.

Speaking of ink, this purchase is sweetened by a sheet of tattoos of Maui, Moana and other icons from the story. Recommended for ages 8-12, this is the most advanced Moana movie tie-in book available and the one I also recommend for adult fans hoping to know the story in advance of the film. Moana is such an incredible tale and it translates into a solid book in this novelization. I would give this book an 9/10.

BLACK LIVES MATTER OR DO ALL LIVES MATTER?

BY: VAIBHAVI MENON

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”- Nelson Mandela

Racism has always existed and still is an ongoing struggle for a lot of us. Discrimination on the basis of color is very frequently experienced where the “whites” are considered on the higher scale of an hierarchy and the “colored” and “blacks” are considered on the lower scales. The black lives matter moment began after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of African-American teen Trayvon Martin 17 months earlier in February 2012.The overall Black Lives Matter movement is a decentralized network of activists with no formal hierarchy. he movement returned to national headlines and gained further international attention during the global George Floyd protests in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. An estimated 15 million to 26 million people participated in the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests in the United States, making it one of the largest movements in the country’s history. The movement comprises many views and a broad array of demands but they center on criminal justice reform. The popularity of Black Lives Matter has rapidly shifted over time. Whereas public opinion on Black Lives Matter was net negative in 2018, it grew increasingly popular through 2019 and 2020. A later poll conducted in September 2020 showed that support among American adults had dropped to 55%, with notable declines among whites and Hispanics, while support remained widespread among black adults.

The phrase “Black Lives Matter” can refer to a Twitter hashtag, a slogan, a social movement, a political action committee, or a loose confederation of groups advocating for racial justice. Activist DeRay McKesson has commented that the movement “encompasses all who publicly declare that black lives matter and devote their time and energy accordingly.” BLM generally engages in direct action tactics that make people uncomfortable enough that they must address the issue. BLM has been known to build power through protest and rallies. BLM has also staged die-ins and held one during the 2015 Twin Cities Marathon. Black Lives Matter demonstration in Oakland, California, December 2014. Political slogans used during demonstrations include the eponymous “Black Lives Matter”, “Hands up, don’t shoot” (a later discredited reference attributed to Michael Brown), “I can’t breathe” (referring to Eric Garner and later George Floyd), “White silence is violence”, “No justice, no peace”, and “Is my son next?”, among others. According to a 2018 study, “Black Lives Matter protests are more likely to occur in localities where more black people have previously been killed by police.” The phrase “All Lives Matter” sprang up as response to the Black Lives Matter movement, shortly after the movement gained national attention. Several notable individuals have supported All Lives Matter. Its proponents include Senator Tim Scott. NFL cornerback Richard Sherman supports the All Lives Matter message, saying “I stand by what I said that All Lives Matter and that we are human beings.” According to an August 2015 telephone poll, 78% of likely American voters said that the statement “all lives matter” was closest to their own personal views when compared to “black lives matter” or neither. Only 11% said that the statement “black lives matter” was closest. Nine percent said that neither statement reflected their own personal point of view. According to professor David Theo Goldberg, “All Lives Matter” reflects a view of “racial dismissal, ignoring, and denial”. Professor Charles “Chip” Linscott said that “All Lives Matter” promotes the “erasure of structural anti-black racism and black social death in the name of formal and ideological equality and post-racial colorblindness”. Founders have responded to criticism of the movement’s exclusivity, saying, “#BlackLivesMatter doesn’t mean your life isn’t important – it means that Black lives, which are seen without value within White supremacy, are important to your liberation.” President Barack Obama spoke to the debate between Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter. Obama said, “I think that the reason that the organizers used the phrase Black Lives Matter was not because they were suggesting that no one else’s lives matter rather what they were suggesting was there is a specific problem that is happening in the African American community that’s not happening in other communities.” He also said “that is a legitimate issue that we’ve got to address.”

To conclude this, the Black lives matter movement was never a way to discriminate the others(whites). The whites were always placed on a superior level and it was the colored who were continuously bashed because of their color. they were killed because of this difference and because of this they definitely deserve to have the title that ” Blacks lives matter.”

Culture and its effect on the brain

Definition of Culture

The study of culture can be collocated along two tenacious and prominent themes: Diversity and Change. A person’s upbringing, and living environment is what makes them diverse from others. It is the differences between all cultures and sub-cultures of the worlds regions. People’s need to adapt and alter to physical, biological and cultural aspects to survive is the pivot of the second theme, change. Culture usually changes for these two reasons: selective transmission or to stand the test of changing needs. This means that when there is a dearth of a food source, we change the way we live. There could be forced redistribution of, or relocation from ancestral domains due to external and/or internal forces.

Culture is the framework for our emotive and behavioural norms. Our culture can ascendant neural activity during various cognitive functions. The Cultural neuroscience of the self report by Shinobu Kitayama and Jiyoung Park suggests that culture “both constructs and is constructed by the mind and its underlying brain pathways”. According to this report, the mechanism has to do with the brain’s pliability (its ability to adapt to long-lasting engagement and have pre-formulated behavior stores as muscle memory. The capacity of our brains to undergo structural changes from recurrent daily tasks is commendable. A link to the research has been attached below.

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/44888800_Cultural_neuroscience_of_the_self_Understanding_the_social_grounding_of_the_brain_Social_Cognitive_and_Affective_Neuroscience_5_111-129

Many neuroscience researches are spreading knowledge on how culture shapes our functional anatomy, prejudices our brains, controls our neural activity, and even impacts the way we represent ourselves and others in our minds. That being said, culture is learned, dynamic, symbolic, shared ad systematic. Edgar Schein right said, “Culture consists of the shared beliefs, values, and assumptions of a group of people who learn from one another and teach to others that their behaviors, attitudes, and perspectives are the correct ways to think, act, and feel.” Attached below is a link to an article about his culture triangle.

Cultural exchange must be viewed as a form of cross-pollination of the society. Culture and language are reflections of one another, for better and worse, and so we must take great care with the impact of our words.

New found:Sugar leads to depression

How many of you are aware that you are including poison in your daily beverages, this is not to make you afraid but to make you aware!

First of all, there are numerous sugar fanatics all over the world, but little do they know how it affects their health in unimaginable ways. Anything that goes into your body in the form of sugar to eat or drink, it eventually converts the sugar into glucose.

The energy a human body receives solely depends on the glucose level. However, many people consume sugar containing food items, far more than they can burn off the energy level in their body.Eventually, this leads to tooth decay, belly fat, weight gain and increases the risk of various health conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes in common.

Basically, the roots of refined sugar come from sugar beets or commonly referred to as sugar cane, which are refined to extract sugar. Some go to delightful food items such as, white bread, pasta, white rice, pastries, pizza dough and most breakfast cereals are all a form of carbohydrate which contains refined sugar.

Some of the reasons for even sugar addicts to refrain consuming sugar, sugar maniacs listen up!

  • First and foremost, as we all know sugar is addictive. Consumption of sugar triggers the release of dopamine chemical, which creates a good sensation in the Brain. So eventually, it is stimulated to increase sugar intake and crave more which will make a person fall into a remorseless routine of sugar consumption.
  • Sugar leads to downfall in the immune system by reducing the white blood cells efficiency after consuming sugar, which restricts the human body’s ability to fight against diseases and infections.
  • Adapting to the old saying, “cancer loves sugar” excessive sugar consumption encourages the growth of cancer cells due to the production of insulin in the human body.
  • The ultimate lead for the causes of disease in the human body is caused due to the presence of glucose and fructose in refined sugar.

Apart, from affecting physical health, sugar consumption vastly affects mental health. To be more specific, we all would have experienced a feeling of bingeing after consuming sugar, which is caused due to a crash that’s created in the human body and mind after withdrawal of sugar which leads to addiction, loss of self control, overrating etcetera.

Besides, We all know how the current generation has huge effects of depression due to various reasons. But surely, none of us would be aware that sugar consumption could also be one of prominent causes of depression.

Consuming sugar doesn’t just stop from affecting physically but goes beyond that and creates depression, anxiety, irritability, unwanted emotions, mood swings, fatigue etc, all this is generated unknowingly because of the spike that’s produced in blood sugar and serotonin in the brain which is said to be a feel good chemical. This eventually creates addiction mentally and stimulates craving which leads to boundless negative effects in the human body.

So what do we do now? Is it possible to cut down sugar completely? Especially for sugar fanatics, yes, there’s an alternative for everything in this world and they are completely healthy and pure.

  • Stevia: it’s a natural sweetener that’s extracted from the leaves of shrubs.
  • Monk fruit: This sweetener Extracted from a monk fruit itself and also contains around 250 times sweet than sugar with zero calories.
  • Coconut sugar: This is extracted from the sap of sugar and contains healthy nutrients such as zinc, iron, calcium and potassium along with antioxidants.
  • Honey: honey is a well known sweetener. Which contains lots of healthy benefits. Rich in vitamins and minerals. An excellent alternative to sugar.

There are many more healthy and natural alternative sweetness around the world which are also easily available. Switching healthy sweetness instead of sugar reduces half of the issues that occur physically and mentally.

Lastly, anything consumed less would bring much great benefits, so moderation is the key.

Etymology – Back To The Origins

Did someone run away with my temper?🙊🙃

To gain an understanding of the usage of the word “temper” in the phrase “to lose one’s temper”, it would be useful, first, to note its appearance as a segment in the words “temperature”, “temperate”, and “temperament”.

Etymology refers to the study of the origin of a word and the historical development of its meaning.

The Etymology and Science

When we dig into the etymology of the word “temper”, we are led to examine its origin in the context of humoral pathology (four humors) – as developed in ancient Greece and Roman societies, who in turn borrowed from the much older Ayurveda system of “tridoshas” (vata, pitta, kapha). Aristotle focused on the four elements (air, fire, water, earth) as the building blocks of the universe (Plato developed it further). Hippocrates (who was greatly influenced by Ayurveda) developed the theory of the four humors – blood, bile, phlegm, and water. These and other thinkers believed that the four elements and the four humors determined the behavior of all created things, including the human body. Some of the noted thinkers of the time characterized all behavior into four types: melancholic, phlegmatic, choleric, and sanguine. The information about Hippocrates’ theory of four humours has been carefully studied from https://exploringyourmind.com/hippocrates-theory-four-humors/

The four behaviours of a human

Thus, the overall behavior of a human or overall disposition could be described as “temperament”. Subsequently, a 16th century Roman physician, Galen, proposed that the temperament was dependent on temperature. Therefore, he stated that all sickness was “distemperature”. Closure

We can now make the connection between temperate (which generally refers to mild – neither too hot nor too cold), temperature, and temperament. Seen in this light, losing one’s temper refers to losing that temperate state, and moving to distemperature (both in physical and mental sense) – and that was perhaps most outwardly manifest when someone exhibited anger.

Virtual Reality: Its history and future

Virtual Reality has a brief yet rich history with many ups and downs. Even though the formal name was defined much later, there had been many attempts that resembled the Virtual Reality that we know it as today. Let’s first define the goal of Virtual Reality. It is to trick the brain to believe that something is real with the help of virtual elements, these elements can be auditory (sound) or visual (sight). But there are many parallel definitions of VR but one of the essential differentiating factors of Virtual Reality compared to other forms of media is that VR has some sort of interactivity. Unlike Movies or 3D movies where a person can only view but not interact, VR facilitates the freedom to touch, interact and control what a person sees on their screen.

History of VR

The fascination with VR goes way back to the 1930s when science fiction writer Stanley G. Weinbaum wrote a story where he mentions about Pygmalion’s spectacles. The wearer would be able to experience the virtual world. VR was further popularized by the popular Sci-fi movie, Star Trek: The Next Generation and its Holodeck.

One of the first examples of VR HMD (Head Mounted Display) was ‘Sword of Damocles’ developed by Ivan Sutherland and his student Bob Sproull. The HMD was connected to a computer. The contraption setup was intimidating, cumbersome, and heavy. The graphics that were shown if the HMD were quite simplistic and trivial, but it was a convincing step towards the VR we know today. The term ‘VR’ was popularized in the 1980s by Jaron Lanier. By the end of the 1980s, NASA with the assistance of Crystal River Engineering, created Project VIEW. It was a VR simulator that was developed to train the astronauts. The 1990s saw the use of VR in multimedia and mainstream commercial spaces. Numerous virtual reality arcades were introduced in the public spaces where players could play games with immersive stereoscopic 3D visuals. The mid-1990s saw the VR foray by console manufacturers. Nintendo and SEGA both showcased their VR gaming headsets but both were a commercial failure due to technical limitations and lack of software support.

In 2012 Oculus Kickstarter had raised 2.5 million dollars and this gave the startup a monetary jumpstart that previous VR projects were not able to attain. In 2014 Facebook bought the Oculus and this ensured that the VR startup would be adequately funded in their VR developments. 2014 also saw the launch of numerous other VR developments like Google cardboard, Sony PSVR and Samsung Gear VR. In 2016 HTC released its advanced VR headset, HTC Vive. Now the focus was to make VR truly standalone free from the assistance of a dedicated computer or a smartphone.

The Future

The Future of VR looks bright, there are many factors for this but one of the major factors is the price of VR has significantly gone down. There are continual developments in the sphere of VR and various new technological innovations are attempting to make the adoption of VR much more seamless, comfortable and intuitive to use. The use of VR is not just limited to gaming but now VR is also used for many commercial and business purposes. Recently Microsoft signed an agreement with the US government to supply 120,000 semi-custom versions of Hololens VR/AR headsets. VR is increasingly used in the health and manufacturing sectors as well. With a compound annual growth of 21.6% from 2020 to 2027, it seems that VR is only going to get more mainstream in the future.
