ICC approves replacements in test cricket, bans use of saliva to shine ball

International Cricket Council, ICC on Tuesday has approved substitution in case a player shows symptoms of COVID-19 during a Test match besides ratifying the interim ban on using saliva to shine the ball. ICC has also re-introduced non-neutral umpires for bilateral series as part of its interim playing regulations to tackle the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the five new regulations, recommended by the Anil Kumble-chaired Cricket Committee, and ratified by the Chief Executives Committee (CEC), the teams will also be allowed an additional DRS call as home umpires will now be officiating in bilateral Test series. The ICC in a press release said that a 32-inch additional logo would also be permitted on the players’ jerseys, for Boards to make up for financial losses due to pandemic. However, the regulation for COVID-19 replacements will not be applicable in ODIs and T20Is, it added.

The ICC said, ban on use of saliva was taken as it is considered to be a transmitter of novel coronavirus unlike sweat which will still be allowed to shine the ball. Repeated violation of the ban would at first invite a warning before a five-run penalty is imposed. It added, A team can be issued up to two warnings per innings but repeated use of saliva on the ball will result in a 5-run penalty to the batting side. Whenever saliva is applied to the ball, the umpires will be instructed to clean the ball before play recommences.

The introduction of two home team umpires for bilateral after nearly two decades is purely due to the logistical challenges of travelling given the flight restrictions in place globally. The requirement to appoint neutral match officials will be temporarily removed from the playing conditions for all international formats owing to the current logistical challenges with international travel.

Global COVID-19 cases touch 77 lakh with 4,27,000 deaths

Worldwide, more than 77 lakh cases of the novel coronavirus have been reported so far and at least 4.27 lakh deaths were confirmed. According to Johns Hopkins University, US is reporting the highest number of cases at 20 lakh 61 thousand 315, followed by Brazil 8 lakh 28 thousand 810 and Russia 5 lakh 19 thousand 458.

United States has also reported the highest number of deaths 1 lakh 15 thousand 59, followed by Brazil 41,828, the United Kingdom 41,662 and Italy 34,301.

Use Mind Mapping to Help You Succeed This Semester

When you’re prepping for tests and prioritizing all the projects, presentations and homework assignments from each of your classes, your responsibilities can feel a bit overwhelming. You could keep track of your to-do’s with a bulleted list or reminders on your smartphone, but there’s one strategy that has proven to be successful when it comes to effectively organizing your thoughts: mind mapping.

What is mind mapping?

Mind mapping can be done on paper or on a digital device, and it starts with one main topic, such as a research paper, a group presentation or a school subject. From there, you break that topic down into related, sub-categories using branches, icons, various colors or other visual representation. The idea is that you’re capturing your thoughts and organizing them in a visual manner that’s easy to digest. Mind maps can be used to learn about a specific subject, to prepare for a final exam or even to work through a problem.
There are free tools available if you prefer to create your mind maps on a digital device like a smartphone or tablet. FreeMind is great for use on computers, while MindMeister is ideal for a tablet or smartphone that you can take anywhere. If you do opt for a digital mind map, you can include attachments, links and other notes to make your creation even more detailed.

Benefits of mind mapping

Why create a mind map instead of simply writing your thoughts down in a list format? Well, by making a mind map using a combination of words, phrases and pictures, you’re actually more likely to remember the information. In fact, Digital Splash Media said that words and pictures used together are six times more effective for retaining information than words alone.
Mind mapping is also a great way to help you connect the dots between thoughts or ideas. Concepts are physically linked together, allowing you to see the larger picture of a subject and really fill in the blanks on all of the details. This strategy can make your study sessions even more effective by providing you with an immediate deeper understanding of the subject rather than having to comb through your notes over and over again.
Various colors are often used to differentiate between subjects and ideas on mind maps. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, color has been found to play a role in enhancing the performance of memory.
Next time you’re starting a project or studying for an exam, give mind mapping a try to see how it compares to other organizational strategies.

Dear- Indian education system…

Dear Indian Education System… I have decided to take a huge step, But, before that, you guys need to know a lot of things about me. I used to score amazing till std 10th when I scored well, leave alone my parents,  all my friends, neighbors, shopkeepers…  Even the watchman of my building started to say ” You are going to take Science. You will be an engineer” no. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t dislike Science.  Science is beautiful science is the ultimate truth but when I came in Std 10th the half-interested teachers in my school and coaching institute didn’t teach Science at all!  All they taught was how to solve maximum number of MCQs in a given time, like a robot that killed the beauty of Science sir.  And that Physic’s topper of my class  He didn’t believe that evolution actually happened  He just wanted to solve maximum number of MCQs  So much obsession with Science.

India hasn’t won a single Nobel Prize in Science  Since Independence  Nobel Prizes are just “awards” , you’ll say  India produces the maximum number of engineers per year  Yet, India ranks 60th  in the Global Innovation Index that means no major innovation has happened since Independence, all we keep saying is “Aryabhatta invented Zero” to be honest, after 10th, I wanted to study Physics, Graphic Designing, Coding, History, Music and English Literature Why couldn’t the evaluation of my intelligence and calibers be on the basis of these subjects?  Why should’ve I wasted my time studying subjects I didn’t want to study?  So, I left the damn coaching institute, used to get out of my home during coaching hours and used to read novels in the park, see new places to be honest, I felt free It felt good not to be a zombie I learnt graphic designing on my own  I listened to some beautiful music by Mozart and Rahman  I read Poetry, I taught myself Python, and I read some amazing write-ups  on various topics of Physics  I am taking a huge step.  I am dropping out no not because Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg are drop-outs, not because being a “dropout” is cool, and neither it is because of the frustration of failing.

images (30).jpeg

Dear Indian Education System I am dropping out simply because you do not make any sense and now, you’ll ask me, who will give me a job?  Who will feed me?  I believe somewhere somebody is there who’ll see my skills. Will value my creativity.  Who will value my intelligence, not my CGPA Yes, I failed. but I know there is a lot to do, observe, and learn only my marksheet says that I can’t do anything but I know I will do something good.

Somewhere someone is waiting for you

We like ,We swipe constantly scrolling for love and with each scroll we destroy love even more. love is not something to be filled or finding an escape from reality… Reality suchlike loneliness, loneliness can be beautiful if we learned to enjoy it while experiencing loneliness You would see the entire universe and never find a being more worthy of love then yourself …
But we need to believe that true love exists not just this where it’s a transaction .. Real love the one which is unpredictable.. uncertain.. people are too ready to just move on when something doesn’t feel right we have to believe that someone . Somewhere is out there wants it’s just as bad as us !!!

                                                 Mahima

Leading from the front-2

The idea of being able to succeed in your field is always one’s dream. There is nothing wrong in dreaming one’s own dreams. But you must be willing to put in effort in things you are not aware of. There are a lot of qualities needed when you are striving for success. That requires more than just hard work and studying. Sure they do have a vital role when you are trying to be a good employee and chasing your dreams but when you are actually trying to last in the field for a long time you should be able to adapt and learn things earlier and faster than your colleagues because time is an important factor. And time is a harder criterion to overcome. But you have to remember that no matter if you are in your 20’s,30’s,40’s or 50’s you never are too late. Simply remember, when you decide to change your life around, always start today itself. Tomorrow is too late for anything in your life. If you decide to be a better person or a better leader, take the initiative and decide today itself. And you will neither doubt your decision nor regret it. If you ever see a good result in your actions, do not regret that you didn’t start earlier, just be grateful that you did start before that tomorrow you procrastinate about.

There are some traits you could use both as a person, employer or as a leader. And that includes many of the basic things you already know about or even have. Nonetheless, evaluate yourself when you read on…

As a person who is looking to improve yourself, the first thing you have to remember is that you should have the ability to question yourself. Be honest as possible is the way to go. When improving yourself you should self evaluate what your shortcomings are. Where do you lack? If you really don’t know how to do that, taking an example would really help. We all have role models. Pick a person you look up to and ask yourself, why this particular person is my role model? What are the things that make them a good person and really liked by people? What are the things that make them unique from the other 7 billion in this world? Once you get the answer to these questions, ask yourself whether you have these values that you aspire to have? If so, how can you improve that skill? If not, how can you better them. When you are trying to change, do not forget you don’t really have to be like your aspiration. No human is perfect. Everyone is flawed and so are you. So be the best you, you can be.No one is ideal. The main person you have to impress is not your loved ones, friends or family, it is yourself. No matter what you do, you should be able to be happy with who you are. Being successful and unhappy with who you are would only put your hard work to waste. So be someone you are proud to be.

The Girl Who Lives in Silence-An Introvert: My Story

The Girl Who Lives In Silence
Remember when she told you that talking to people is hard for her sometimes, so she opted not to speak? She wanted you to look at her and tell her that it’s okay, but then you told her that she shouldn’t be like that. It saddened her, but she uttered nothing. If she had told you, then you’d be hurt. And whenever you are hurt, you get angry, and only results in another cycle of tears, of hurt pride and misunderstandings.

There are so many things that she wanted to try, so many things that she wished she could do. She hasn’t shared any of her dreams because you won’t think they’re worth doing. She’s not letting you brush them all off. She had seen you do it, and she doesn’t want to hear that tone you use to make her feel like what she wants is unattainable.

She wanted to tell you that something might be wrong. No. She knows something is wrong, but words won’t come out and scenes come flashing back. You think that these kinds of shadows can be easily fought. In your mind, you believe that help is not necessary, and someone will be fine if they decided that they are fine. She doesn’t want to be a burden, and she knows you won’t understand.

At a young age, she learned how to be silent, how to endure by herself. And now that you want her to talk, now that you want her to tell you things, she can’t say anything. She gets so afraid. Afraid that you’ll use her fears against her. Afraid that you’ll say things that would create more cracks — unfixable cracks. You can’t force her to change, in the same way that she can’t force you to. But she only wishes it were different.

Maybe one day she’ll get better. Maybe one day she would finally be able to talk freely, without words being filtered. Maybe she’ll finally find that long-forgotten comfort when she looks at you. Maybe time won’t be so cruel.

TIPS ON HOW TO CREATE A STARTUP IN COLLEGE AND HOW TO FIND A SUITABLE CO-PARTNER

Before starting, there are tons of books which may offer you an honest flavour and understanding of Startups:Zero to one , The Lean Startup, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, etc. You will not become an Entrepreneur by reading books, but you’ll definitely have a far better understanding and a few motivation – so you want to read them

Google, Facebook, Microsoft. All three companies were started by college students and now they’re among the most important companies within the world. Students feel inspired by such success stories but often don’t have a transparent idea of what they really want to realize once they start a business.

The following points give a thought on the way to start your own company while being in college.

  1. Prioritize
It is getting to be very difficult if you are doing not have a transparent plan of your business goals. Do not set a really horizontal bar initially as this puts unnecessary stress. Plan your day beforehand in order that you’ll allocate sufficient time to both academics and start-up and strictly say no to activities which don’t align together with your interests.
  2. Choosing right courses
Colleges provide various electives on entrepreneurship, management. Select such courses which can help to find out about how businesses operate, grow and performance at an outsized scale. This helps in bridging the gap between academics and entrepreneurship. This also helps in networking with compatible students, alumni which may be an enormous boost during this startup journey.
  3. Funding for startup
There are several colleges which permit their students to pitch their business idea. And if selected a particular amount is allocated to assist them start performing on their plan. These programs are an enormous motivation as they don’t need to worry for the cash within the initial stages. Also make use of the college alumni network to connect to successful entrepreneurs who can help you.
  4. Finding a mentor
A mentor helps in clearing up doubts and may prevent you from making a wrong decision. Attend various e-summits, business events, alumni meet hosted by your college and you’ll find people willing to guide you during this journey.

Tying it together
There will be people to demotivate you and doubt your goals. Turn a deaf ear to them and believe that this can be achieved. Enjoy the journey so that it does not seem like an additional burden. Do not get upset by the initial roadblocks and keep doing your part.
For making the startup successful, finding the proper co-founder may be a vital thing that one must do. There will be so many challenges in this journey and it is better to face them together rather than doing it alone. Great teams persevere, and success breeds success.

  1. Networking
Networking is much more crucial than you think. Attend different events like entrepreneurship summits, business seminars etc. Use social networking platforms such as LinkedIn and Facebook to your benefit.
  2. Attend e-summits organised by universities
University professors know many entrepreneurs, alums who are trying to find suitable persons matching their interests and business plans. Discuss your plans with them and you maybe lucky enough to seek out the support.
  3. Meet colleagues from previous jobs
If you met someone in your previous job with an entrepreneurial spirit, try to follow up with that person. If you both had thought of owning a company at some time, now is the time to work on that dream.
  4. Explore common interests outside of work.
Searching for a co-founder is often tricky. It involves taking to consideration multiple factors, the foremost common being compatibility. Make sure you recover together even outside of your work. Strengthen the bonding in various ways like enjoying sports or checking out each other’s reading tastes.
  5. Jointly define long term and short term goals for the startup.
The enthusiasm maybe very high initially but its real test is within the end of the day . Come together on decisions such as various short term and long term goals for the company. Decide on vision of the corporate , the mission which it wants to accomplish.
  6. Clarify each one’s role
Make it very clear about the roles each one is going to play. Take responsibility for the decisions which you are going to take. Plan in such how , that the co-founders function without having to interfere in each other’s jurisdiction.

Every Food has a Story.

Food is such an important part of our life with so many varieties. Their are multiple mouth watering cuisines in todays world.
But did you ever wonder that every dish you eat or every drink you have, has a history behind it. There is a story of invention and origin behind each of it.

Let’s take a look at the origin of some of the popular varieties of food and beverage that everyone loves and craves to have.

  • Biryani

The origin of biryani lies in Persia and was later brought to India where it was further developed by the Mughals in the Mughal Royal Kitchen during the Mughal period. It is said that Shah Jahan, the Mughal Emperor’s Queen, Mumtaz Mahal, asked the chef to create and serve a special dish that provides balanced nutritions to the undernourished army people that she visited once. That is how the creation of biryani took place.
This invention was followed by creating various types like Hyderabadi Biryani and Calcutta Biryani.
Biryani” comes from the Persian word “birian” that means “fried before cooking”.

  • Margherita Pizza

The name Margherita was derived from Queen Margherita of Savoy. During her visit to Naples, chef Raffaele Esposito of Pizzeria Brandi along with his wife created a pizza that resembled the colour of the Italian flag using the ingredients Tomato (red), Mozzarella ( white) and Basil (green).  As it was created for and served to Queen Margherita, and she liked it, it was named after her.

  • Tea

The origin of Tea took place in southwestern China where it was used as a medical drink. It was when Chinese Emperor, Shen Nung, got to know about the  plant Camellia sinensis. As his troops took shelter under the trees, a few leaves of the plants fell into the pot of boiling water due to the wind and they took the first sip of tea. That’s how tea was invented.

  • French Fries

By looking at its name you might think that they originated from France. But we are giving all the credits to the wrong country.
Earlier, the poor villagers of Meuse Valley, used to catch small fish, fry and eat them. When the winter came and the river froze, they were forced to look at other food sources. They moved to the root plant, potato. They sliced and deep fried it just like they used to fry the fish. That’s how Fries were invented.
During the World War I, when the American soldiers took a hault in Belgium, they were served Fries which they enjoyed having. Since then, fries became a popular snack.
The official language of Belgium was French, so the French soldiers named it as French Fries.

  • Nutella

The creation of the World’s favourite spread was done in Italy by the son of Pietro Ferrero, named Michele. He improvised his Father’s recipe called SuperCrema, which was made using hazelnuts, sugar and small amount of rare cocoa.
Michele, evenly used new hazelnut and cocoa cream and the World famous spread was invented and named Nutella.

  • Chicken Nuggets

Back in 1950’s, when the meat industry faced two major problems, one was being able to clump meat without a skin and second was producing a batter coating that could be deep fried and frozen without being detached. A food science professor, Robert C. Baker, in United States, invented a chicken piece of bite size, coated in batter and deep fried. He named it as ‘Chicken Crispie’ . He published it as his unpatented academic work. It became the solution to the meat industry problems and were called Chicken Nuggets.

  • Popsicles

Popsicles was everyone’s most favourite thing in the childhood since generations. It has the most interesting invention story. It was invented by accident in  San Francisco.
Back in 1905, an 11 year old boy, named Frank Epperson, mixed soda powder and water in a glass with a stirrer to treat his friends. He left the glass outside in the cold chilly night and forgot about it.
The next day he discovered the first popsicle. He pulled out the ice candy along with the frozen stirrer by running it under hot water and then tasted it. He enjoyed it and decided to name it as Epsicle. He sold it in the neighbourhood.
After 18 years, he applied for a patent. He recommended birch, poplar, or wood-bass for the stick.
As he was now a grown man with children he renamed his Epsicle as Popsicle the all the generations since then enjoyed it.

  • Nachos

Ignacio Ananya at a restaurant in Mexico, fried some chips and added some toppings. He served it to the first batch for a group of hungry U.S. military wives. Just like that Nachos were invented. He names it after his Nick name that was Nacho.

  • Hamburger

The origin of the Hamburger is quite complicated. It is named after a German city, Hamburg. The patty was made using meat and was served as Hamburg steaks and went on for a long time. Later people found it difficult to eat the Hamburg steaks alone.
Hence, USA was the first country to combine the patty and the bread or bun together. There went on controversies about the origin of the Burger as both the important parts, the patty and the bun were invented separately. At last in the 20th century, Hamburger was identified with the United States of America as they were the ones who combined both the basic ingredients.

  • Sandwich

Sandwich was a result of unwillingness to get up for food break. British statesman John Montagu, who was a gambler in England, was so deep into playing cards that he didn’t want to leave the table and take a food break. Therefore, he told his servant to make him something that he can eat without having to get up from his place and continue playing. So his servant stuffed a piece of meat between two breads and that’s how the sandwich was invented. However, the name of the servant got lost in the history. Later, his friends demanded for the sandwich too and since then it became popular.

So next time when you have any of these things, you’ll be aware of their stories and you won’t be able to stop yourself from sharing it with the person you have it with.

Writing: A Cathartic Journey

Writing is a prolonged process that requires a lot of time followed by a passage of intense thinking and exploration of different things at the same time. The act of writing allows us to explore a plethora of domains that go beyond human existence. Unknowingly we become a part of the cosmic universe through the act of writing.

Catharsis is an intense word which has been interpreted and represented in a lot of different ways by various historians and theorists with the passage of time. It was first used by Aristotle in Poetics with the definition of tragedy, as one of the main genres of dramatic representation. This word has been used only once by Aristotle. Afterwards, it became an important resource of research for the theorists.

Catharsis can be considered as a process of purification and purgation that helps the excess of our emotions and feelings to get evaporated from our physical system. Although, Aristotle never explained it or even mentioned it anywhere else, critics and theorists have added layers after layers to this concept since it first appeared in Poetics. Catharsis therefore can be regarded to be a process that brings about a sense of relief through releasing our strong and repressed emotions and feelings.

It does not necessarily have to be a novel/drama/poetry so on and so forth but writing casually for no one but yourself can contribute a lot in the healing process that is something we all need in some time or the other in our life. We write when something hurts us/amuses us/makes us happy/makes us sad- there is no particular time/feeling. We tend to write all the time. In other words, writing can be viewed as a process that can be regarded as an output of our thoughts. Specifically writings that take place when the writer is in melancholic or nihilistic brings forth the intense cathartic nature of writing.

Writing is therapeutic. It unlocks our long repressed emotions and desires. It allows us to go beyond the mortal and physical boundaries and transcend to a different domain of existence that is otherwise unknowable.

The act of writing therefore can be considered as a reflector as well. It helps transferring our oppressed feelings to a different world through a pen and paper. It helps us grow. It helps us move forward through helping us with releasing our emotions. A recent psychotherapy study has come up showing people who have a habit of writing their feelings down on a daily basis are less likely to feel low. Hardships are not really that hard for them to overcome since they do not keep it all bottled up within themselves. Even a personal journal/diary can be really helpful in order to maintain a healthy balance between our emotional sphere and the societal reality.

Various psychotherapists have also focused on how writing about our fears can eventually help us get over them in a simpler and easier way. Patients with mental illness are often recommended by therapists to write down their traumatic experiences and the like that bother them. It helps us get past distressing and disturbing incidents of our life.
Writing is an honest activity that helps us transcend our real and not-so-real borders and eventually takes us to a sphere that is peaceful, calm and filled with solidarity and emotional harmony.

Life Unplugged

For a second, let your imagination run along these lines. It is a beautiful morning, the sun is slowly rising. You are there on your balcony, peacefully sitting and the only sound you can hear is the chirping of birds. In your hand is your favorite drink, and in your mind is calmness. Amidst all this, you take a long deep breath and feel connected to your soul.

Your life keeps going on and you do things which you think are important for you. You never once stop to just take a breath and look around to see where you have actually reached; what is going on in your own life. So to counteract this, there is this unworldly concept that you just sometimes take a break from your life; you unplug from your own life.

More often than not, you forget to take a break. And even if you do take it, you usually only give it to your physical being but forget that your mental being is equally important.

Take a break every now and then to reevaluate your life and your surroundings. It is just as important to stop as it is to continue to accomplish things because, without a balanced head, you would not be able to accomplish them anyway. Take a break from places, from routines, from people, and even from yourself. Unplug from the chaos of life.

Plug back into life in its purest form and not through a lens. Plug back to your values and the things you desire. Connect to those who truly matter. Connect to peace, joy, and Zen. Embrace your inner self once in a while.

  1. Start your day with yourself

There will come a time when you have to attend to your duties and obligations. The world will start pulling at you and the day will become just a domino effect of endless pulls. Before that happens, spare a few moments for yourself.  You deserve it. Nobody else is more important than you. Take five minutes to breathe, contemplate, and feel grateful for your life.

yoga

  1. Mind your diet

The world is a chaotic place where every being has to fend for himself. Start by minding and mending your food habits. Introduce a new super item into your diet. The only condition is that it should be healthy. Drink a green smoothie if you like that. Find healthier alternatives for your favorite foods. Try eating cakes and sweets that are gluten-free. Cleanse your diet.

  1. Empower yourself with an inspiring book

Your subconscious mind creates reality. Feed your mind with the world you want to create for yourself. Start your day by reading a portion of a book that embeds positive thoughts in your mind.

  1. Explore your neighborhood

It is not necessary for you to travel to exotic places to feel relaxed. You could just go outside your home and take a walk around your neighborhood. Connect yourself with nature. Try a new restaurant. Join a class that you wanted to for a long time.

  1. Prioritize your time and feelings

Learn to balance your time within your boundaries. Manage the time you spend on social media. Own up your actions and let people know how you want to be treated. Focus less on what you want to do and achieve and more on how you want to feel while achieving that.
