Urbanization is an increase in the number of people living in towns and cities. It occurs mainly because people from rural areas move to urban areas. It can also be explained as the expansion of a city or metropolitan area.

Causes of urbanization

  • Rural to urban migration of happening on a massive scale due to population pressure and lack of resources in the rural areas.
  • People living in rural areas are pulled to the city because they believe that standard of living in urban areas are much better than rural areas.
  • Natural increase of population is caused by a decrease in death rate while birth rate remains high.

Effects of urbanization

A range of economic, political, social, cultural, environmental factors affect urbanization.It is encouraged socially and culturally through social media.

  • Socio- cultural impacts:
    • Cities have a strong socio- cultural impact on their surrounding rural areas.
    • The mass media depicts city life as superior to rural life.
    • The fertility rates in cities is often lower than rural areas due to absence of agriculture, cost of children, food and living space of cities and family planning.
  • Socio- economic impacts:
    • As the city grows, the cost of housing and infrastructure also grows and there will be less water, land and building materials available and causes congestion problems.
    • Unemployment grows and drug abuse, crime rates and homelessness also grows.
  • Environmental issues:
    • Wastes are a major problem in large cities.
    • Air pollution results from over dependence on motorized transport systems and from burning of coal to supply energy.
    • Water pollution results from poor sewage facilities and disposal of industrial heavy metals into water bodies.
    • Vast quantities is solid wastes are produced in the industries and pollute the environment.
    • Traffic congestion and noise pollution are major environmental impacts of large cities.

Benefits of urbanization

  • Moderate urbanization helps in improvement of economy.
  • It helps in the growth of commercial activities.
  • There is a socio- cultural integration as a result of urbanization.
  • There is an efficient use of resources.
  • There is an increase in the supply of labour.

The problem of this rapid urbanization is faced by the whole world. The greatest challenge is to minimize the negative aspects of urbanization and build the benefits of urbanization. For this, more opportunities should be created in the rural areas for people to take up. The rural infrastructure also needs to be taken into consideration in order to keep urbanization in check.

Noise Pollution- Causes, Effects & more

Noise is usually defined as unwanted sound or a sound without value that causes discomfort to the listener. Noise is usually measured in units of decibels and is denoted by dB.

1. On human beings:-

Mental health

Exposure to intense levels of noise can cause personality changes and violent reactions. Noise has also been shown to be a factor that attributed to violent reactions. 
Psychological health effects from noise include depression and anxiety stress. Individuals who have hearing loss, including noise induced hearing loss, may have their symptoms eased with the use of hearing aids. Individuals who do not seek treatment for their loss are 50% more likely to have depression than their aided peers. These psychological effects can lead to detriments in physical care as reduced self-care, work-tolerance, and increased isolation.

Physical health

Exposure to loud sound or longer exposure causes threshold shift. Noise-induced threshold shifts are seen as a notch on an audiogram from 3000 to 6000 Hz, but most often at 4000 Hz.
Exposure to loud noises, either in a single traumatic experience or over time, can damage the auditory system and result in hearing loss and sometimes tinntius as well. Noise induced hearing loss is sometimes unilateral and typically causes patients to lose hearing around the frequency of the triggering sound trauma.

2. On animals:-

Marine animals

Two main reasons that make an environmental impact of noise in marine life a grave are – 1. Noise travels much more in water, covering greater distances than it would do on land while travelling though air, and secondly because the marine life is extremely sensitive to noise pollution and an absence of any mechanism to safeguard them against it, underwater noise pollution disrupts marine life in more serious ways.

The deaths can occur because of haemorrhages, changed diving pattern, migration to newer places, and damage to internal organs and an overall panic response to the foreign sounds. There is also a disruption in normal communication between marine animals because of underwater noise pollution. This means animals prone to noise pollution cannot call their mates, look for food or even make a cry for help under such circumstances.

Birds

Anthropogenic noise, emitted from the oil and gas compressors, is becoming a global issue. The idea of the study was to measure the stress levels of the birds compared to the distance they were nesting with the oil and gas compressors.

So much so that they were showing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder-like (PTSD) symptoms. In the birds, their corticosterone levels were relatively low. And that isn’t exactly what you would expect to see in a high-stress situation. This is likely to be what was happening with the birds. It triggered health defects such as stunted growth, issues with their reproduction, and fewer feathers on the birds. Their ability to hear predators also seemed to be jeopardised because of the noisy surroundings.

Preventive measures to reduce noise pollution

  • Factories should be established away from the settlements.
  • Settlements should be located 20 kms away from the mining areas and coal areas.
  • Explosives should be not used in mountainous, forest and mining areas.
  • Use of horn in public places should be banned.
  • The sound of musical instruments should be controlled to desirable limits.
  • The use of sound amplifiers of high power should be banned in religious events.
  • The use of sound absorber tiles should be encouraged in the construction of multi-storeyed buildings.
  • In industrial, commercial and hospital buildings, adequate soundproof systems should be installed.
  • Intensive plantation should be made in the entire building complex.
  • Planting green trees along the roadside reduces the intensity of noise pollution.
  • Protective tools should be provided for workers.
  • Legal provisions should set limits on noise and control over noise pollution.

TAKING CARE OF PERSONAL HYGIENE

“Life is short so don’t risk it.” We know how important personal hygiene is, as keeping our body, hands and hair clean can stop the spread of germs and illnesses. Personal hygiene is defined by the practices you take to look after your physical health to avoid diseases by maintaining a certain level of personal cleanliness. It is a key element in our daily routines to live a healthy life. Thorough out our whole life a bunch of people or maybe even ourselves get diseases which could be life threatening and usually people consider the main reason for this to be not getting access to something and being careless about your surroundings. What they don’t know is that hygiene plays a very important part in not getting in contact with these diseases. For example during this ongoing pandemic, most people catch the virus because they don’t take the proper precautions like sanitizing yourself or wearing masks. Therefore taking care of your personal hygiene is a very important thing to do if you want to lead a healthy life.

Few basic ways in which we can maintain personal hygiene could be through simple activities like taking a shower atleast once a day, brushing your teeth twice a day, making sure to floss your teeth, applying deodorant to avoid foul smell, washing your body with soap, cutting your nails, washing your hair properly thrice a week, making sure your face is clean before going to sleep, wearing comfortable clothing, changing your pillowcases once a week, cleaning your phone screen to remove it of any bacteria, wearing a mask, carrying sanitizers, washing your hands with proper techniques, covering your mouth while sneezing your coughing, applying sunscreen even if you aren’t going out, putting on perfume or body mists. It is important to change sanitary products regularly and to wash the hands before and after changing tampons, pads, or any other sanitary products. As vaginas are self-cleaning, using soap to clean the vagina can cause an imbalance of its natural bacteria and lead to infections. The vulva (the external part of the vagina) should only need cleaning once a day using a mild soap and water. People with an uncircumcised penis can clean it by gently pulling back the foreskin and washing underneath it with warm water or soap. If you can’t remember to do things like shower, wash your hair, clip your nails, or brush your teeth, set a reminder on your phone. The cue will push you to the activity, and over time, you’ll begin to do it yourself. Hang a reminder in the bathroom to wash your hands after using the toilet. Put a little sign by the plates or bowls in the kitchen to cue yourself to wash your hands before eating. These signs can help jog your memory and improve your habits.

Therefore maintaining personal hygiene is beneficial for you and your own health and it’s considered one way of helping you in having a healthy and safe life.

Unemployment

Unemployment has become one of the biggest problems around the world. When an individual is an implied, he or she will know very less about the mankind. It is so difficult to face situation and handle situations when the individual is unemployed. Unemployment leads to many silly mistakes. And an unemployed person cannot take over the family and lead the family as well. There is a huge competition in highly populated countries like India. In order to be employed, the only method is to study hard and improve the skills and score better. Basically, the students are not showing good amount of interest towards the studies. Let us now see how to motivate them.

Covid crisis has made many people unemployed. It has taken away the basic need of living. Many people are left with the unfilled stomachs. Some people are dead about by not finding a way to live.

Types of unemployment :

There are four main types of unemployment in an economy frictional, structural, cyclical, and seasonal and each has a different cause.

1. Frictional unemployment :

Frictional unemployment is caused by temporary transitions in workers lives, such as when a worker moves to a new city and has to find a new job. Frictional unemployment also includes people just entering the labor force, such as freshly graduated college students. It is the most common cause of unemployment, and it is always in effect in an economy.

2. Structural unemployment :

Structural unemployment is caused by a mismatch in the demographics of workers and the types of jobs available, either when there are jobs available that workers don’t have the skills for, or when there are workers availabes but no jobs to fill. Structural unemployment is most obvious in industries undergoing technological advancements.

3. Cyclical unemployment :

Cyclical unemployment is caused by declining demand. When there is not enough demand in an economy for goods and services, businesses cannot offer jobs . According to keynesian economics , cyclical unemployment is a natural result of the business cycle in times of recession: if all consumers become fearful at once, consumers will attempt to increase their saving at the same time, which means there will be a decrease in spending, and businesses will not be able to employ all employable workers.

4. Seasonal unemployment :

Seasonal unemployment is caused by different industries or parts of the labor market being available during different seasons. Fot instance, unemployment goes up in the winter months, because many agricultural jobs end oncr crops are have harvested in the fall, and those wotkers are left to find new jobs.

Consequences of unemployment in an Economy :

Low unemployment is key to economic stability High and long- term unemployment can cause significant stress on a nation in three key areas.

* Individuals :

Unemployed people have no ability to fulfill their financial obligations and can become mentally stressed, ill, and even homeless.

* Economic efficiency :

During times of high unemployment many job seekers will accept new jobs below their skill level, a situation called “underemployment ” which translates to a loss of human capital for an economys labor market. Unemployed workers will also significantly decreases their consumer spending, which is one of the driving forces of economic growth. Without consumer spending, the economy will slow dramatically.

* socio- political stability :

If unemployment remains high, citizen dissatisfaction can rise to the point of widespread civil unrest.

Possible solutions for Unemployment :

Solving unemployment is a hotly debated topic, and no economists agree on one simple way to do it. However, in the U.S ,if unemployment rises noticeably, the government usually steps in with specific policies designed to lower the total number of unemployed people.

1. Monetary policy :

Monetary policy is financial influence implemented by a central bank . Monetary policies usually come in the form of lower interest rates, which increase the total money supply within an economy by allowing banks and businesses more access to loans and therefore, more accessible spending power.

2. Fiscal policy :

If expansionary monetary policy doesn’t adequately lower the unemployment rate government agencies will turn to fiscal policy. Fiscal policy is fiscal stimulus implemented by the national government and fiscal policies include spending on infrastructure, proposingtax cuts , increasing the minimum wage, or implementing unemployment benefits. These methods are designed to inject more demand into private economy and strengthen economic activity.

Let us now see some of the ways to motivate the students to study and get employeed.

Make things easier :

Showing the things easier and explaining them with clarity helps the students to show better interest on the subject and makes them to pay more attention on what the teacher is trying to convey. When the topics are shown easier for the students, they start learning them and they feel achieved and they pay more attention to study. When a student learns a particular topic or a question, he/she feels comfortable and happy for getting it. Once if they start reading, they develop the interest in them and they continue to read more and more.

Tell the importance :

The students must be motivated with good number of words to understand the need of studying and what happens if they don’t study. A student is like a bird without the wings when they don’t study. So, it is very important to motivate students to study and to make them understand the need of the situation. Motivation brings the right change in the students who are not interested in learning. It develops the interest in them to study.

It seems good if the government provides good number of jobs.

Acid Rain

Acid rain, or acid deposition, is a broad term that includes any form of precipitation with acidic components, such as sulfuric or nitric acid that fall to the ground from the atmosphere in wet or dry forms. This can include rain, snow, fog, hail or even dust that is acidic.

Acid rain is caused by a chemical reaction that begins when compounds like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air. These substances can rise very high into the atmosphere, where they mix and react with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form more acidic pollutants, known as acid rain.

It can have harmful effects on plants, aquatic animals, and infrastructure.

Effects of Acid Rain

The ecological effects of acid rain are most clearly seen in aquatic environments, such as streams, lakes, and marshes where it can be harmful to fish and other wildlife. As it flows through the soil, acidic rain water can leach aluminum from soil clay particles and then flow into streams and lakes.

Acid rain has been shown to have adverse impacts on forests, freshwaters, and soils, killing insect and aquatic life-forms, causing paint to peel, corrosion of steel structures such as bridges, and weathering of stone buildings and statues as well as having impacts on human health.

Acid rain also causes the corrosion of water pipes. Which further results in leaching of heavy metals such as iron, lead and copper into drinking water.

Prevention

1. The only precaution that we can take against acid rain is having a check at the emission of oxides of nitrogen and sulphur.
2. We have so far seen the details of acid rain and its harmful effect on animals, plants and the monuments.
3. Being responsible citizens, one should be aware of the harmful effects they cause and of the industries which give out nitrogen and sulphur compound wastes unethically. 4.A great way to reduce acid rain is to produce energy without using fossil fuels. Instead, people can use renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power. Renewable energy sources help reduce acid rain because they produce much less pollution.

Acid Rain in India

Analysis of rainwater samples from Nagpur, Mohanbari (in Assam), Allahabad, Visakhapatnam and Kodaikanal in the decade 2001-2012 showed a pH level varying from 4.77 to 5.32, indicating that these places have actually been receiving ‘acid rain’. Rainwater with pH below 5.65 is considered acidic.

As energy requirements in India will grow rapidly in tune with the economy, coal dependence is expected to increase threefold over the current level of consumption, making the clouds of acid rain heavier over many highly sensitive areas in the country – the northeast, parts of Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal ,etc ,.

The rains in the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have become acidic. Studies show the importance to regularly monitor more places for acid rains. But the mechanism to study acid rains is at present inadequate in India. imd stations are not located in the most polluted areas in the country.

Water Pollution and it’s impact in human health

Water pollution (or aquatic pollution) is the contamination of water bodies, usually as a result of
human activities. Water bodies include for example lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater.
Water pollution results when contaminants are introduced into the natural environment. For example,
releasing inadequately treated wastewater into natural water bodies can lead to degradation of aquatic
ecosystems. In turn, this can lead to public health problems for people living downstream. They may
use the same polluted river water for drinking or bathing or irrigation. Water pollution is the leading
worldwide cause of death and disease, e.g. due to water-borne diseases.

Water pollution can be classified as surface water or groundwater pollution. Marine
pollution and nutrient pollution are subsets of water pollution. Sources of water pollution are
either point sources or non-point sources. Point sources have one identifiable cause of the pollution,
such as a storm drain or a wastewater treatment plant. Non-point sources are more diffuse, such
as agricultural runoff.] Pollution is the result of the cumulative effect over time. All plants and
organisms living in or being exposed to polluted water bodies can be impacted. The effects can
damage individual species and impact the natural biological communities they are part of.

Water pollution occurs when unwanted materials enter in to water, changes the quality of water and
harmful to environment and human health . Water is an important natural resource used for drinking
and other developmental purposes in our lives . Safe drinking water is necessary for human health all
over the world. Being a universal solvent, water is a major source of infection. According to world
health organization (WHO) 80% diseases are water borne. Drinking water in various countries does
not meet WHO standards 3.1% deaths occur due to the unhygienic and poor quality of water.

Discharge of domestic and industrial effluent wastes, leakage from water tanks, marine dumping,
radioactive waste and atmospheric deposition are major causes of water pollution. Heavy metals that
disposed off and industrial waste can accumulate in lakes and river, proving harmful to humans and
animals. Toxins in industrial waste are the major cause of immune suppression, reproductive failure
and acute poisoning. Infectious diseases, like cholera, typhoid fever and other diseases gastroenteritis,
diarrhea, vomiting, skin and kidney problem are spreading through polluted water. Human health is
affected by the direct damage of plants and animal nutrition. Water pollutants are killing sea weeds,
mollusks, marine birds, fishes, crustaceans and other sea organisms that serve as food for human.
Insecticides like DDT concentration is increasing along the food chain. These insecticides are harmful for humans.

The main objective of the project work is role of water in our life. How important it is. Controlling
city pollution by water pollution.

Definition of water pollution :-

Water is typically referred to as polluted when it is impaired by anthropogenic contaminants. Due to
these contaminants it either does not support a human use, such as drinking water, or undergoes a
marked shift in its ability to support its biotic communities, such as fish. Natural phenomena such
as volcanoes, algae blooms, storms, and earthquakes also cause major changes in water quality and
the ecological status of water.

Prevalence :-

Water pollution is a major global problem. It requires ongoing evaluation and revision of water
resource policy at all levels (international down to individual aquifers and wells). It has been
suggested that water pollution is the leading worldwide cause of death and diseases.] Water pollution
accounted for the deaths of 1.8 million people in 2015.
The organization Global Oceanic Environmental Survey (GOES) consider water pollution as one of
the main environmental problems that can present a danger for the existence of life on earth in the
next decades. One of the main concerns, is that water pollution, heart phytoplankton who produce
70% of oxygen and remove a large part of carbon dioxide on earth. The organization proposes a
number of measures for fixing the situation, but they should be taken in the next 10 years for being
effective.

Water pollution in India and China is wide spread. About 90 percent of the water in the cities of
China is polluted.
In addition to the acute problems of water pollution in developing countries, developed countries also
continue to struggle with pollution problems. For example, in a report on water quality in the United
States in 2009, 44 percent of assessed stream miles, 64 percent of assessed lake acres, and 30 percent
of assessed bays and estuarine square miles were classified as polluted.

Reason :-

The causes of water pollution include a wide range of chemicals and pathogens as well as physical
parameters. Contaminants may include organic and inorganic substances. Elevated temperatures can
also lead to polluted water. A common cause of thermal pollution is the use of water as
a coolant by power plants and industrial manufacturers. Elevated water temperatures decrease oxygen
levels, which can kill fish and alter food chain composition, reduce species biodiversity, and foster
invasion by new thermophilic species.
Water pollution is measured by analysing water samples. Physical, chemical and biological tests can
be conducted. Control of water pollution requires appropriate infrastructure and management plans.
The infrastructure may include wastewater treatment plants. Sewage treatment plants and industrial wastewater treatment plants are usually required to protect water bodies from untreated
wastewater. Agricultural wastewater treatment for farms, and erosion control at construction sites can
also help prevent water pollution. Nature-based solutions are another approach to prevent water
pollution.Effective control of urban runoff includes reducing speed and quantity of flow. In the
United States, best management practices for water pollution include approaches to reduce the
quantity of water and improve water quality.

TYPES OF WATER POLLUTION:-

1. SURFACE WATER POLLUTION :-
Surface water pollution includes pollution of rivers, lakes and oceans. A subset of surface water
pollution is marine pollution.
Water pollution from human activity, including oil spills and also presents a problem
for freshwater resources. The largest petroleum spill that has ever occurred in fresh water was caused
by a Royal Dutch Shell tank ship in Magdalena, Argentina, on 15 January 1999, polluting the
environment, drinkable water, plants and animals Chemical contamination of fresh water can also
seriously damage eco-systems.
In industrialized areas rain can be acidic because of dissolved oxides of sulfur and nitrogen formed
from burning of fossil fuels in cars, factories, trains and aircraft and from the atmospheric emissions
of industry. In some cases this acid rain results in pollution of lakes and rivers.

2. GROUNDWATER POLLUTION:-
Groundwater pollution (also called groundwater contamination) occurs when pollutants are
released to the ground and make their way down into groundwater. This type of water pollution can
also occur naturally due to the presence of a minor and unwanted constituent, contaminant or impurity
in the groundwater, in which case it is more likely referred to as contamination rather than pollution.
The pollutant often creates a contaminant plume within an aquifer. Movement of water and dispersion
within the aquifer spreads the pollutant over a wider area. Its advancing boundary, often called a
plume edge, can intersect with groundwater wells or daylight into surface water such as seeps and
springs, making the water supplies unsafe for humans and wildlife. The movement of the plume,
called a plume front, may be analyzed through a hydrological transport model or groundwater model.
Analysis of groundwater pollution may focus on soil characteristics and
site geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, and the nature of the contaminants.
Pollution can occur from on-site sanitation systems, landfills, effluent from wastewater treatment
plants, leaking sewers, petrol filling stations or from over application of fertilizers in agriculture.
Pollution (or contamination) can also occur from naturally occurring contaminants, such
as arsenic or fluoride. Using polluted groundwater causes hazards to public health through poisoningor the spread of disease.Different mechanisms have influence on the transport of pollutants,
e.g. diffusion, adsorption, precipitation, decay, in the groundwater. The interaction of groundwater
contamination with surface waters is analyzed by use of hydrology transport models.

3.CHEMICAL POLLUTION :-
dustrial and agricultural work involves the use of many different chemicals that can run-off into water
and pollute it.Metals and solvents from industrial work can pollute rivers and lakes. These are
poisonous to many forms of aquatic life and may slow their development, make them infertile or even
result in death.Pesticides are used in farming to control weeds, insects and fungi. Run-offs of these
pesticides can cause water pollution and poison aquatic life. Subsequently, birds, humans and other
animals may be poisoned if they eat infected fish.Petroleum is another form of chemical pollutant that
usually contaminates water through oil spills when a ship ruptures. Oil spills usually have only a
localised affect on wildlife but can spread for miles. The oil can cause the death of many fish and
stick to the feathers of seabirds causing them to lose the ability to fly.

4.MARINE POLLUTION:-
ne common path of entry by contaminants to the sea are rivers. An example is directly discharging
sewage and industrial waste into the ocean. Pollution such as this occurs particularly in developing
nations. In fact, the 10 largest emitters of oceanic plastic pollution worldwide are, from the most to
the least, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Egypt, Malaysia, Nigeria, and
Bangladesh,[15] largely through the rivers Yangtze, Indus, Yellow, Hai, Nile, Ganges, Pearl, Amur,
Niger, and the Mekong, and accounting for “90 percent of all the plastic that reaches the world’s
oceans.
Large gyres (vortexes) in the oceans trap floating plastic debris. Plastic debris can absorb toxic
chemicals from ocean pollution, potentially poisoning any creature that eats it. Many of these long￾lasting pieces end up in the stomachs of marine birds and animals. This results in obstruction of
digestive pathways, which leads to reduced appetite or even starvation.
There are a variety of secondary effects stemming not from the original pollutant, but a derivative
condition. An example is silt-bearing surface runoff, which can inhibit the penetration of sunlight
through the water column, hampering photosynthesis in aquatic plants.

IMPACT IN HUMAN HEALTH :-

There is a greater association between pollution and health problem. Disease causing
microorganisms are known as pathogens and these pathogens are spreading disease
directly among humans. Some pathogens are worldwide some are found in well-defined
area]. Many water borne diseases are spreading man to man Heavy rainfall and floods are
related to extreme weather and creating different diseases for developed and developing
countries [10% of the population depends on food and vegetables that are grown in
contaminated water [Many waterborne infectious diseases are linked with fecal pollution of
water sources and results in fecal-oral route of infection]. Health risk associated with polluted
water includes different diseases such as respiratory disease, cancer, diarrheal disease,
neurological disorder and cardiovascular disease Nitrogenous chemicals are responsible for
cancer and blue baby syndrom]. Mortality rate due to cancer is higher in rural areas than
urban areas because urban inhabitants use treated water for drinking while rural people
don’t have facility of treated water and use unprocessed water. Poor people are at greater
risk of disease due to improper sanitation, hygiene and water supply . Contaminated water
has large negative effects in those women who are exposed to chemicals during pregnancy;
it leads to the increased rate of low birth weight as a result fetal health is affected
Poor quality water destroys the crop production and infects our food which is hazardous for
aquatic life and human life [Pollutants disturb the food chain and heavy metals, especially
iron affects the respiratory system of fishes. An iron clog in to fish gills and it is lethal to
fishes, when these fishes are eaten by human leads to the major health issue Metal
contaminated water leads to hair loss, liver cirrhosis, renal failure and neural disorder.

Bacterial diseases :-
Untreated drinking water and fecal contamination of water is the major cause of
diarrhea. Campylobacter jejuni spread diarrhea 4% to 15% worldwide. Fever, abdominal
pain, nausea, headache are major symptoms of diarrhea. Good hygienic practices and use
of antibiotics can prevent this disease. Disease cholera is caused by the contaminated
water. Vibrio Cholerae is responsible for this disease. This bacterium produces toxins in
digestive tracts. The symptoms of this disease are watery diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and
watery diarrhea leads to dehydration and renal failure. Anti- microbial treatment is used to
get rid of this disease.
Shigellosis is a bacterial disease caused by Shigella bacteria. It affects the digestive tract of
humans and damages the intestinal lining. Watery or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps,
vomiting and nausea are symptoms and it can be cured with antibiotics and good hygienic
practice. Salmonellosis infects the intestinal tract. Salmonella bacteria are found in
contaminated water and it results in inflammation of intestine and often death occurs.
Antibiotics are prescribed for this disease.

Viral diseases :-
Hepatitis is a viral disease caused by contaminated water and infects the liver. Jaundice,
loss of appetite, fatigue, discomfort and high fever are symptoms of hepatitis. If it persists for
a long time it may be fatal and results in death. Vaccine is available for hepatitis and by
adopting good hygienic practice; one can get rid of this disease Encephalitis is inflammatory
disease spread by bite of infected mosquitoes. Culex mosquito lays their eggs in
contaminated water. Most people don’t show any symptoms but some symptoms are headache, high fever, muscle stiffness, convulsions however in severe cases coma and paralysis
results. No vaccine is available for this disease
Poliomyelitis virus is responsible for poliomyelitis. Sore throat, fever, nausea, constipation and
diarrhea and sometimes paralysis are symptoms of poliomyelitis. Vaccine is available for this disease
Gastroenteritis is caused by different viruses including rotaviruses, adenoviruses, calciviruses
and Norwalk virus. Symptoms of gastroenteritis are vomiting, headache and fever. Symptoms appear
1 to 2 days after infecting. Sickness can be dangerous among infants, young children and disabled.

Parasitic diseases :-
Cryptosporidiosis is a parasitic disease caused by the cryptosporidium parvum. It is worldwide
disease and symptoms are diarrhea, loose or watery bowls, stomach cramps and upset stomach
[28]. Cryptosporidium is resistant to disinfection and affects immune system and it is the cause of
diarrhoea and vomiting in humans Galloping amoeba is caused by the Entamoeba histolytica and
affects stomach lining. This parasite undergoes cyst and non-cyst form. Infection occurs when cyst
found in contaminated water and it is swallowed. Symptoms are fever, chills and watery diarrhea
According to WHO, diarrheal case jootes are about 4 billion and results in 2.2 million deathsGiardiasis is
caused by Giardia lamblia. Cells of intestinal lining may become injure. Giardia is resistant to wintry
temperature and disinfectant. Sometimes it is known as travelers’ disease. People suffering from
giardiasis have symptoms bloating, excess gas, watery diarrhea and weight loss .

PRO-CHOICE OR PRO-LIFE

“No woman can call herself free who does not control her own body.” Abortion is the medical termination of a foetus and I believe it should be allowed because it was made for a reason. The doctors wouldn’t create abortion if they didn’t think it was right. Abortion should be the woman’s choice and not according to society because it’s the woman who has to carry the baby, take care of the baby and worry about its future. It is the woman’s body which is going through the changes. The mother could be financially unstable and not be able to provide for the baby so in such cases it’s better to abort the baby at the initial stage rather than make it suffer for the rest of its life. Yes the mother can have the baby and put it up for abortion but pregnancy completely changes a woman’s body and for some women it can be fatal and can cause infertility but lets imagine the baby is put up for adoption what is the guarantee that the baby gets into a family and even if we assume the baby has gotten into the family what is the guarantee that the family is good and not abusive.

in the case of a child with a severe disability like Progeria (child ages ) or butterfly skin their life expectancy is only a couple of years and even in that little life they suffer so much cuz of disease. In this case its better to abort especially people who are not financially stable they wont even be able to afford medicines for the diseases. Victims of sexual assault who become pregnant should be able to abort because they dint want this child. The incident that happened to them is already traumatic for them and the child is a constant reminder of what happened to them. there have been cases around the world where a mother who wasn’t ready to have a child has postpartum depression and has committed suicide or takes drugs or kills her own child. Aborting the child inside the womb does not cause pain to the child but killing outside definitely will.

That being said abortion should not be used negatively like for example female infanticide.. it should be used in the case of important situations. Honestly a person who wants to abort a child is going to do so whether legal or not….only difference is that if its allowed they will do it with professional help and if not allowed they will do it on their own by taking pills or through consumption of alcohol etc. in the end its only the woman’s choice as she’s the one who deals with the upbringing of the child and has to see whether she is ready to accept the changes that would happen to her both physically and mentally.therefore I would like to conclude this by saying abortion is not a evil thing to do as many people consider it to be. Infact it saves the unborn child from the fatalities he/she may experience due to the unwilling birth of it.

WHAT IS A LOCKDOWN?

Lockdown means, all people are supposed to stay at the place where they are, and, not to travel or go out, just, STAY AT HOME! Lockdown happens for safety measures for mass safety, all the doors are locked, no one can enter or exit.

WHY LOCKDOWN?

COVID-19 Pandemic, the reason behind lockdown in 2020, the virus was spreading rapidly and still is. Started from a single person and now spread in all around the world from person to person through droplets from the mouth and nose, when the person with COVID-19 sneezes. It also spreads by touching the already effected surface as it has the infected droplets and there is the possibility of touching our eyes, mouth or nose just after touching the infected surface.

LOCKDOWN WAS GOOD OR BAD?

An empty mind is a devil’s workshop! THIS WAS PROVED WRONG! Every single person tried to enhance their knowledge, brushed up themselves and brought out their creative side. Few learned how to cook, some helped their mums in household works, some worked in shaping their skills well, and many more. All worked on a plethora of things, brighten up themselves. On the other hand, students learned about new things, new courses, new topics, which will be fruitful for them in their upcoming future.

COMEBACK OF MYTHOLOGICAL SHOWS! All Indian parents, at least once have told their children about the iconic shows they have watched in their childhood; THE RAMAYANA and THE MAHABHARATA. These two were the most famous shows of the ’90s. On Sunday, when the shows were telecast, roads used to be empty, everyone was found sitting in front of the television for watching the show. Some people used to believe that the actors playing the role of God were actually the real god and used to worship them. The devotion was so pure! At the time of lockdown, these shows were re-telecast, and, this was so hard to believe that children of this generation were even more interested in watching these iconic shows rather than watching movies or web series, The Ramayana got the highest Trp.

BEST TIME FOR ENJOYING THE MOMENTS WITH FAMILY. While working, we get time very often, lockdown resulted as a gift as this was the right time spend more and more time with our families, to enjoy with them, for having long conversations, and be with our loved ones.

FINANCIAL ISSUES! We all fight with the world, just for money as it is the key to good living. For food, we need money, for clothes, we need money, for the house, we need money, for everything, money is mandatory. Lockdown didn’t affect the rich but was a curse for the poor. The migrant labours, vendors, the daily wage workers, they all were deeply affected by this, they did not even have food to eat, place to live, their life was equal to hell! Not only labours, few television actors too faced a financial crisis as they were not paid.

STUCK IN OTHER CITIES. In India lockdown was announced on 24th March 2020, for 21 days, but, it increased further because of the continuous increase in positive cases. Not everyone got the chance to be with their families, no one was allowed to travel, many people were stuck in other cities and were not able to go to their hometown, few were in other countries.
