Is Happiness Linked To Success?

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” – Albert Schweitzer.

Is there a correlation between success and happiness?

We have not come here in this world by our choice nor will we leave this world by our wish. We’re all tourists in this wonderful world. No one is gonna live permanently. We ultimately experience this One supreme Power that controls this universe, maintaining us.So this thought create a feeling that we are living here temporarily in this world. Joy and sorrow are the part and parcel of life. Being optimist genrates the feeling of hope and inner peace. It helps us to motivate ourselves and overcome stress and grief. Positive attitude leads you to take better decisions finally to achieve “SUCCESS and HAPPINESS”.

Metaphorically, the sun is a daily reminder that we too can rise again from the darkness, that we too can shine our own light.” As the negative and positive thoughts are always battling with each other, trying to win over the other but when we are optimistic, a positive feeling wins the game by making us more confident, brave, calm and content. Nelson Mandela’s quote goes well with it, “The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

The definition of happiness vary from person to person. As some are happy with less, but some with more. Although this is not the true definition of happiness. The real happiness merges from within ourselves in satisfactory appreciation with whatever we have. When we were young, we used to be happy with little things.. gradually we have set the criteria for ideal happiness that if I will have a car, big house, good job then only I will i be happy. These things become obstacles in achieving peace and happiness. If we set a condition with our happiness then we will never ever be happy in spite of having all goodness. Unconditional happiness is essential for true happiness. These are the reasons, most of the children are not happy with their parents, the reason is the they have made the condition that if I will get so and so thing then only will become happy, so we are focusing on the things about which we are sure. And waste their precious life moments, just overlooking the plenty of goodness in it because we try to see the happiness through our covered lens so we are unable to see any goodness.

As it is said’Peace begins when expectation ends’..This quote exactly fits in our day to day life. We expect too much from others but are unaware that they are also expecting the same from us. The modern society has no doubt changed completely; changing life style has distorted out mindset. The changing world is the world of new idealogy “More and More” . This has made the people selfish and self centred.

We should understand that every moment of our lives we can include happiness only if we take things in a positive manner. We shouldn’t depend on something or someone to make us happy. As it is rightly said by William James : “Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives”.May God make us from among those who brighten up another person’s path with happiness, even when our own is clouded with darkness. But that’s the moment we feel the “True Happiness” emerging from within us.

What do you define as happiness and success in your own life?

Happiness and success are nebulous terms that get thrown around a lot in the self improvement circles. They are the ultimate goals in life. The only things that truly matter.Or so they say.But do any of us really know what we mean when we say we want these things?

How will we know once we reach our goal of becoming happy and successful? What will we do after we achieve these things? Just kick back and do nothing, waiting for death, our job as a human being now complete? How do we know we aren’t already happy and successful?

I’m not going to sit here and waste time trying to define these terms for you. Look them in a dictionary if you want a bland, sterile definition. Don’t bother doing that though. We all have some internal sense of direction towards happiness and success. With each event that occurs in our lives, we intuitively know if it is moving us closer or further away. That’s good enough for me.

The above quote is a common misconception that people have. Just find a way to make yourself happy and you will be a success. Maybe some people feel that way, but I don’t want to be the happiest homeless man begging for change on the highway off ramp. Success, defined as happiness, could even be achieved chemically through alcohol, heroin, or other destructive and non-successful indulgences.

So what’s missing? Meaning.Happiness without meaning is not success.People also make the opposite mistake. They think that once they become successful, whatever that means, then they will be happy. They put in long hours at the office. Lie, cheat, steal, kiss ass. The ends justify the means, they think. We all know the cliche of the rich man, seemingly at the top of the world, who realizes that he still isn’t happy. It is a cliche for a reason, because it teaches an important lesson that many of us are all too willing to ignore.

Material success without happiness is not true success. So a lack of happiness makes you unsuccessful. A lack of success can certainly make you unhappy. Happiness alone doesn’t make you successful. Success alone doesn’t make you happy. So what do we do?

Balance happiness and success while doing something meaningful. Meaningful is something we all have to define for ourselves as we all value different things in the world. Balance is the key here. Hedonistic pleasure seeking lacks meaning and therefore does not make us feel successful. Ruthless competition and chasing material rewards doesn’t leave room for the things that make us happy in life.

So where am I going with this? What is the magical key to success and happiness and a life of unending pleasure, meaning, and satisfaction?

I don’t know, I’m just some guy on the internet. …This is something that I think about a lot though. People seem to think of happiness and success as destinations. A goal they can someday reach if they do and think and say and believe the right things. I’ve listened to a lot of interviews with successful people and they they are asked who they think of as successful, I’ve never heard anyone mention themselves. People with success beyond our wildest dreams don’t yet think they’ve reached that elusive destination we call success. They’re still on the path towards it. The same is true for happiness.

We are all much happier and more successful than other people in the world in certain ways. Many of us are currently much happier and successful than we ourselves once were. Still we want and strive for more. I think of success and happiness as a direction rather than a destination. No matter how long I travel towards the east, I will never get to a place called “east”. This is just a metaphor, there may be a geographic point on earth where east becomes west, but don’t worry about that.

You can continue to get closer and closer to happiness and success for all eternity without reaching your destination. This is because they are moving targets, constantly redefined based upon our current position. I realize that this is where my math metaphor falls apart, but don’t worry about that.

We can and should continue striving for both, despite, or even because of, the fact that we will never actually get there. Striving after a worthy goal, typically one that increases our happiness and success, is what gives our lives meaning. The goal itself changes constantly over time. The pursuit is the constant. A life with nothing to pursue would not be very interesting at all. Find your pursuit.

ETHICS

Ethics are fundamental principles or ideas that govern a person’s or a community’s activities. This is not a burden to bear, but rather a sensible and successful guide to life and advancement. Because ethics is a fundamental cornerstone on which an enlightened system is based, it is required in business, as well as academic institutions and societal organizations. Following legal laws and being ethical are frequently not synonymous. Emotions, like law, will stray from morality. The inhumane laws controlling apartheid and slavery in South Africa, as well as the practice of sati in India, are instances of unethical laws and customs.

When making decisions, ethics is crucial since it allows one to distinguish between what is right and wrong. Ethics also encompasses a person’s personal moral codes or ideals, which are more personal than codes of ethics.

Importance of Ethics:

The individual, the consumer, the employee, or the human social unit of society are the primary beneficiaries of ethics. Furthermore, ethics is important for the following reasons:

Creating Credibility: An organization that is thought to be driven by moral values is respected in society, even by individuals who have no knowledge of how it operates or what it sells. For example, Infosys is regarded as a company that practices good corporate governance and participates in social responsibility projects. This impression is widespread, even among those who have no idea what the company does.

Uniting People and Leadership: Employees respect and admire organizations that are values-driven. They’re the connecting thread that connects employees and decision-makers. This goes a long way toward bringing the organization’s behaviors together in pursuit of a single common objective or aim.

Improving Decision Making: A man’s fate is the sum of all of his decisions made throughout his life. The same is true for businesses. Values drive decisions. An organization that does not respect competition, for example, will be ruthless in its operations in order to eliminate its competitors and achieve a monopoly in the market.

Long-Term Gains: Organizations that are led by ethics and principles are successful in the long run, even if they appear to be losing money in the near term. In the early 1990s, the Tata Group, one of India’s largest commercial conglomerates, was assumed to be on the verge of bankruptcy, but this proved to be inaccurate. The Tata NANO car, made by the same company, was expected to fail and perform poorly, yet it is already gaining appeal.

Securing the Society: When it comes to securing the society, ethics frequently outperforms the law. The legal system is frequently discovered to be a silent observer, unable to safeguard society and the environment. Technology, for example, advances at such a rapid rate that by the time legislation is enacted, a newer technology with new hazards has supplanted the older. Lawyers and public interest lawsuits may not be very helpful, but ethics can.

Conclusion:

The study of ethics helps students to comprehend human behavior and decision-making. The importance of moral standards in society is highlighted in this paper’s discussion on ethics. Everyone must be conscious of how their activities, whether direct or indirect, affect others. Personal and professional ethics are intertwined and reveal a person’s personality. In any event, our actions and decisions determine how society perceives us. We must consider how others perceive us, our choices, and our actions. Negative ethical decisions are more likely to be observed and judged than positive ethical decisions. Every time an ethical circumstance comes, each individual has a unique obligation to make the appropriate and moral decision.

SELF-CONFIDENCE

Self-confidence is one of the most significant aspects of a person’s personality; a person who believes in their own talents always succeeds and achieves their objectives. A person who is self-assured is constantly free to think about his or her goals without being distracted by negative thoughts; they are always focused on their objectives without question. Those who believe in themselves have a lower or zero likelihood of failing.

To achieve your goals and fulfil your aspirations, you must have self-confidence. People that are self-assured always succeed. Because a self-assured individual is typically autonomous, enthusiastic, hopeful, affectionate, and positive, he or she cannot attain his or her goal in life without confidence. Self-confidence is the key to success, or as we like to say, the first step toward it. If a person has self-assurance, he or she has already won half the battle. People who have achieved success in school, the job, and the public sector are more initiative, forward-thinking, and confident in their decisions, helping them stand out from the crowd.

People that take more initiative and are more upfront and active in life gain success in school and at work. Furthermore, because they are more confident in themselves, they make better selections. As a result, it distinguishes them from the competition. People will notice you if you stand out from the crowd. As a result, you have a better chance of achieving life success. It will be difficult, on the other hand, if there is someone who does not trust or believe in themselves. They will have a difficult time succeeding since they will be subjected to both failure and criticism. As a result, if they lack self-confidence, they may take longer to recover than someone who does.

Importance of Self Confidence:

Develop a sense of self-acceptance: One of the most essential things we can do is learn to accept ourselves. Examine your accomplishments and strengths, and devise a strategy to address your flaws. We must cultivate self-acceptance, feeling good about ourselves and others regardless of the circumstances. In this sense, we may occasionally believe it is appropriate to be critical of our behavior and attempt to modify it without being critical of ourselves. This mindset aids in the development of a healthy sense of self-assurance.

Seeking Positive Experiences and People: We can increase our self-confidence by giving ourselves positive experiences. It’s also beneficial to spend time with folks who appreciate us for who we are. Surround yourself with positive people and stay away from those who are always negative. Being in the company of critical people can have a negative impact on our self-esteem and self-confidence.

Concentrate on Your Achievements: If you take the time to reflect on your life, you will see that you have accomplished a lot. What matters is that these accomplishments are meaningful to you. Consider your accomplishments and determine what you can learn from them. Make a list of everything you’re proud of and put it on it. The fact that you’re concentrating on the positives will also help you gain self-assurance.

Appreciation and Support: As you work to improve your self-esteem, reward yourself. It makes little difference what the reward is as long as it is something you truly appreciate. To sum up, self-confidence is a broad phrase that encompasses a wide range of emotions. Emotional restraint, empathy, and resilience all contribute to the development of a self-assured personality. A self-assured person would know how to state things that are true without hurting other people’s feelings.

THE FATHER OF OUR NATION

Mahatma Gandhiji

He’s one of the main reason for the inpendence of our country.Gandhi’s statements, letters and life have attracted much political and scholarly analysis of his principles, practices and beliefs, including what influenced him. Some writers present him as a paragon of ethical living and pacifism, while others present him as a more complex, contradictory and evolving character influenced by his culture and circumstances.

Being a active leader ,he fought for swaraj- self rule by his motto “DO OR DIE”. He believed that swaraj can also be possible by non-violence.According to Gandhi, a non-violent state is like an “ordered anarchy”.Swaraj to Gandhi did not mean transferring colonial era British power brokering system, favours-driven, bureaucratic, class exploitative structure and mindset into Indian hands. He warned such a transfer would still be English rule, just without the Englishman. “This is not the Swaraj I want”, said Gandhi.

TIME MANAGEMENT

Time management is critical for personal and professional success. Time management refers to the ability to make the best use of one’s time. It is stated that if you master this approach, you can do everything in life, despite the fact that effective time management appears to be as simple as it is difficult. Effective time management necessitates far too much work. Self-discipline is essential for effective time management. When we think of time management, we usually think of personal time management, which is loosely described as managing our time so that we may spend less time doing the things we need to do and more time doing the things we want to do. As a result, time management is frequently thought of or presented as a set of time management skills; the premise is that if we acquire these abilities, we will be more organized, efficient, and happy.

Importance of time management:

Good productivity: Once you’ve devised a strategy, all you have to do now is put it into action. There’s no need to waste time on things you don’t have to do at work; instead, focus on what you need to do next to boost productivity. However, keep in mind that this will only work if you complete your task on time; delaying will have a negative impact on your productivity.

Less Stress: You may become stressed if you do not complete your studies, assignments, or projects. Taking care of one’s mental health is critical for everyone, and students’ poor performance is typically a result of increased stress and anxiety caused by the pressures of academics. Effective time management can help you relieve mental stress while also increasing your confidence and vitality. Time management assists you in completing activities in less time and with less resources. It’s also a terrific approach to relieve stress in this way.

Health Advantages: Your attempts to manage your time have an impact on your health as well. You won’t have to stay up late to complete your responsibilities if you manage your time efficiently. Sleep deprivation causes fatigue, which might disrupt your day’s plans. A good night’s sleep is necessary for your brain and body to replenish, which benefits your health and energy levels.

Syllabus Cramming: Not finishing their course on time is a common issue among students. As a result, they cram all of the chapters right before the tests, resulting in poorer than expected results. Students who use effective time management skills can not only finish their coursework on time, but also have time left over for revisions.
Extracurricular Activities Have More Time: When you have a set timetable for all of your duties for the day, you can estimate how much time you’ll have left once you’ve completed them all. You can organize your tasks so that you have more time to do what you enjoy. This can include activities such as drawing, painting, singing, dancing, photography, and so on, or you can go cycling or jogging to get some fresh air.

Conclusion: Time management is important for everyone, whether you are a student, a housewife, a businessperson, or a working professional. If you are unable to effectively manage your time, you will fall behind on your goals.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

“Entrepreneurship is an activity that entails putting one’s own resources at risk in order to start a business or produce something with a commercial purpose.”
The act of starting a firm in order to make a profit is the basic definition of entrepreneurship. In today’s society, however, entrepreneurship has expanded to include the act of changing the world by solving large-scale problems. With the introduction of the internet, entrepreneurship now has the ability to effect social change by developing a service or product that has a good influence on individuals and addresses societal concerns with innovative solutions.
Entrepreneurship including land, labour, natural resources, and capital can yield a profit in economics. The entrepreneurial mindset is characterized by exploration and risk-taking, and it is an essential component of a country’s ability to compete in an ever-changing and increasingly competitive global marketplace.

What is an entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur is a person who starts a new firm, taking on the most of the risks and reaping the majority of the benefits. The entrepreneur is often thought of as a creator of new ideas, products, services, and business or methods. The entrepreneurs on this list hail from all over the world (from the United States to Europe to Asia) and operate in a wide range of fields (HR, digital, health, finance, entertainment, art, design, and so on), but they all have one thing in common: a passion for what they do.
Small or home-based businesses to global corporations are all types of businesses. An entrepreneur’s earnings are made through a combination of land, natural resources, labour, and capital, according to economic theory. In a word, an entrepreneur is someone who has the desire and determination to start a new business and is willing to take on all of the risks that come with it.

Characteristics of Entrepreneurship:

1.Self-motivation: One of the most important attributes of entrepreneurs is their ability to motivate themselves. Even if you don’t have an immediate source of revenue, you must stick to your plan and keep moving forward.

2.Job Creation: Entrepreneurship leads to the creation of jobs. It offers an entry-level role, which allows unskilled workers to gain experience and training.
3.Increased Standard of Living: Entrepreneurship helps to raise a person’s standard of living by raising his or her income. The term “standard of living” refers to a growth in a household’s consumption of various products and services through time.
4.Risk Bearing: The essence of entrepreneurship is the willingness to take risks, without which one cannot thrive. It occurs as a result of the development and implementation of new concepts. Because such ideas are sometimes speculative, the outcome may or may not be favourable and immediate.
5.Encourages research and development: Before introducing a new product or service, it must be thoroughly investigated and tested. As a result, entrepreneurship helps universities and research institutes to support research and development. This encourages economic growth, research, and development.
6.Be enthusiastic about your work: At the end of the day, successful entrepreneurs are driven by their passion. They are passionate about their product, service, or mission. When you’re feeling down, passion will help you discover inspiration and propel you forward. To keep going forward with your self-employment ideas, you’ll need passion.

MOTHER TERESA- THE INSPIRATIONAL WOMAN WE KNOW TODAY

Mother Teresa- the famous founder of order of the missionaries of charity devoted her life helping the poor and the needy people. It is quite inspirational to know how this little girl who lost her father at a very young age, grew to become such a powerful and influential woman known across the world.

‘Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu’ was born with the name ‘Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu’ on August 26,1910 in Skopje Yugoslavia to Nicola and Johanna Bojaxhiu. She was baptized(given a nickname) a day after her birth. Teresa later considered August 27, the she was baptized as her true birthday. She would later adopt the name Mother Teresa where she was honored as Saint Teresa of Calcutta in the Roman Catholic Church. Her father Nicola was a politician and also a successful construction business worker. He was able to cater for his family with all the necessities and hence Teresa did not lack anything as a child. However nothing much was known about her early childhood experience. Teresa was the youngest of her parents three children. Her family was rich enough and was able to conveniently afford to have two houses. When Teresa was about eight years old, she lost her father. Her father’s sudden death left the family in slight financial straits. However, Teresa’s mother started a textile business which helped her to properly take care of the family. All through her childhood Teresa was influenced by her family to get involved with the Church. It was reported that Teresa completed both her elementary and high school education in Church Schools, though some believed she went to a state-run secondary school. She was an active member of the choir, literacy session and the drama session.

Teresa generally loved reading, especially articles about missionary service and life in India. This later influenced her decision to become a missionary nun. Teresa was then encouraged by her mother to help those in need and care about her religion. Teresa’s mother offered clothes, food and other necessary items to the needy people at the church. Such were her contributions that eventually people would say this about Teresa’s family- “Bojaxhiu family had long been known in Skopje for their generosity towards the town’s poor and downtrodden”. When Teresa was 12 years old during one of the annual pilgrimages to the Church of the Black Madonna in Legnica she first experienced a call to the religious life. By 1928, when Teresa was 18 years old, she was moved by a desire to become a missionary and so she joined the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary(sisters of Loreto) in Ireland where the name sister Mary Teresa was given to her. Later that year Teresa departed for India and arrived in Calcutta in January 1929. In 1931 she made her first Profession of Vows(promise made to God) and used to teach at St. Mary’s School for girls. She made her final Profession of Vows in May 1937 which supposedly made her the ‘spouse of Jesus’ for ‘all eternity’. Since then her public name changed from Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu to Mother Teresa. Teresa continued as a teacher at St. Mary’s School for girls and soon became the Principal of the school in 1944. Teresa was a woman of profound prayer and showed immense love for her students and religious sisters. Teresa spent 20 years in Loreto which was filled with intense happiness. She was noted for her courage, unselfishness, charity, hard work and natural talent for organizing.

STRESS MANAGEMENT

It may seem that there’s nothing you can do about your stress level. The bills aren’t going to stop coming, there will never be more hours in the day for all your errands, and your career or family responsibilities will always be demanding. But you have a lot more control than you might think. In fact, the simple realization that you’re in control of your life is the foundation of stress management.

Managing stress is all about taking charge: taking charge of your thoughts, your emotions, your schedule, your environment, and the way you deal with problems. The ultimate goal is a balanced life, with time for work, relationships, relaxation, and fun – plus the resilience to hold up under pressure and meet challenges head on.

Identify the sources of stress in your life-

Stress management starts with identifying the sources of stress in your life. This isn’t as easy as it sounds. Your true sources of stress aren’t always obvious, and it’s all too easy to overlook your own stress-inducing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Sure, you may know that you’re constantly worried about work deadlines. But maybe it’s your procrastination, rather than the actual job demands, that leads to deadline stress.

To identify your true sources of stress, look closely at your habits, attitude, and excuses:

  • Do you explain away stress as temporary (“I just have a million things going on right now”) even though you can’t remember the last time you took a breather?
  • Do you define stress as an integral part of your work or home life (“Things are always crazy around here”) or as a part of your personality (“I have a lot of nervous energy, that’s all”).
  • Do you blame your stress on other people or outside events, or view it as entirely normal and unexceptional?

Until you accept responsibility for the role you play in creating or maintaining it, your stress level will remain outside your control.

Start a stress journal-

A stress journal can help you identify the regular stressors in your life and the way you deal with them. Each time you feel stressed, keep track of it in your journal. As you keep a daily log, you will begin to see patterns and common themes. Write down:

  • What caused your stress (make a guess if you’re unsure).
  • How you felt, both physically and emotionally.
  • How you acted in response.
  • What you did to make yourself feel better.

Look at how you currently cope with stress-

Think about the ways you currently manage and cope with stress in your life. Your stress journal can help you identify them. Are your coping strategies healthy or unhealthy, helpful or unproductive? Unfortunately, many people cope with stress in ways that compound the problem.

Unhealthy ways of coping with stress-

These coping strategies may temporarily reduce stress, but they cause more damage in the long run:

• Smoking
• Drinking too much
• Overeating or undereating
• Zoning out for hours in front of the TV or computer
• Withdrawing from friends, family, and activities
• Using pills or drugs to relax
• Sleeping too much
• Procrastinating
• Filling up every minute of the day to avoid facing problems
• Taking out your stress on others (lashing out, angry outbursts, physical violence)

Learning healthier ways to manage stress-

If your methods of coping with stress aren’t contributing to your greater emotional and physical health, it’s time to find healthier ones. There are many healthy ways to manage and cope with stress, but they all require change. You can either change the situation or change your reaction. When deciding which option to choose, it’s helpful to think of the four As: avoid, alter, adapt, or accept.

Since everyone has a unique response to stress, there is no “one size fits all” solution to managing it. No single method works for everyone or in every situation, so experiment with different techniques and strategies. Focus on what makes you feel calm and in control.

Dealing with Stressful Situations: The Four A’s-

Change the situation:

  • Avoid the stressor.
  • Alter the stressor

Change your reaction:

  • Adapt to the stressor.
  • Accept the stressor.

Stress management strategy #1: Avoid unnecessary stress-

Not all stress can be avoided, and it’s not healthy to avoid a situation that needs to be addressed. You may be surprised, however, by the number of stressors in your life that you can eliminate.

  • Learn how to say “no” – Know your limits and stick to them. Whether in your personal or professional life, refuse to accept added responsibilities when you’re close to reaching them. Taking on more than you can handle is a surefire recipe for stress.
  • Avoid people who stress you out – If someone consistently causes stress in your life and you can’t turn the relationship around, limit the amount of time you spend with that person or end the relationship entirely.
  • Take control of your environment – If the evening news makes you anxious, turn the TV off. If traffic’s got you tense, take a longer but less-traveled route. If going to the market is an unpleasant chore, do your grocery shopping online.
  • Avoid hot-button topics – If you get upset over religion or politics, cross them off your conversation list. If you repeatedly argue about the same subject with the same people, stop bringing it up or excuse yourself when it’s the topic of discussion.
  • Pare down your to-do list – Analyze your schedule, responsibilities, and daily tasks. If you’ve got too much on your plate, distinguish between the “shoulds” and the “musts.” Drop tasks that aren’t truly necessary to the bottom of the list or eliminate them entirely.

Stress management strategy #2: Alter the situation-

If you can’t avoid a stressful situation, try to alter it. Figure out what you can do to change things so the problem doesn’t present itself in the future. Often, this involves changing the way you communicate and operate in your daily life.

  • Express your feelings instead of bottling them up. If something or someone is bothering you, communicate your concerns in an open and respectful way. If you don’t voice your feelings, resentment will build and the situation will likely remain the same.
  • Be willing to compromise. When you ask someone to change their behavior, be willing to do the same. If you both are willing to bend at least a little, you’ll have a good chance of finding a happy middle ground.
  • Be more assertive. Don’t take a backseat in your own life. Deal with problems head on, doing your best to anticipate and prevent them. If you’ve got an exam to study for and your chatty roommate just got home, say up front that you only have five minutes to talk.
  • Manage your time better. Poor time management can cause a lot of stress. When you’re stretched too thin and running behind, it’s hard to stay calm and focused. But if you plan ahead and make sure you don’t overextend yourself, you can alter the amount of stress you’re under.

Stress management strategy #3: Adapt to the stressor-

If you can’t change the stressor, change yourself. You can adapt to stressful situations and regain your sense of control by changing your expectations and attitude.

  • Reframe problems. Try to view stressful situations from a more positive perspective. Rather than fuming about a traffic jam, look at it as an opportunity to pause and regroup, listen to your favorite radio station, or enjoy some alone time.
  • Look at the big picture. Take perspective of the stressful situation. Ask yourself how important it will be in the long run. Will it matter in a month? A year? Is it really worth getting upset over? If the answer is no, focus your time and energy elsewhere.
  • Adjust your standards. Perfectionism is a major source of avoidable stress. Stop setting yourself up for failure by demanding perfection. Set reasonable standards for yourself and others, and learn to be okay with “good enough.”
  • Focus on the positive. When stress is getting you down, take a moment to reflect on all the things you appreciate in your life, including your own positive qualities and gifts. This simple strategy can help you keep things in perspective.

Stress management strategy #4: Accept the things you can’t change-

Some sources of stress are unavoidable. You can’t prevent or change stressors such as the death of a loved one, a serious illness, or a national recession. In such cases, the best way to cope with stress is to accept things as they are. Acceptance may be difficult, but in the long run, it’s easier than railing against a situation you can’t change.

  • Don’t try to control the uncontrollable. Many things in life are beyond our control— particularly the behavior of other people. Rather than stressing out over them, focus on the things you can control such as the way you choose to react to problems.
  • Look for the upside. As the saying goes, “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” When facing major challenges, try to look at them as opportunities for personal growth. If your own poor choices contributed to a stressful situation, reflect on them and learn from your mistakes.
  • Share your feelings. Talk to a trusted friend or make an appointment with a therapist. Expressing what you’re going through can be very cathartic, even if there’s nothing you can do to alter the stressful situation.
  • Learn to forgive. Accept the fact that we live in an imperfect world and that people make mistakes. Let go of anger and resentments. Free yourself from negative energy by forgiving and moving on.

Stress management strategy #5: Make time for fun and relaxation-

Beyond a take-charge approach and a positive attitude, you can reduce stress in your life by nurturing yourself. If you regularly make time for fun and relaxation, you’ll be in a better place to handle life’s stressors when they inevitably come.

Healthy ways to relax and recharge

  • Go for a walk.
  • Spend time in nature.
  • Call a good friend.
  • Sweat out tension with a good workout.
  • Write in your journal.
  • Take a long bath.
  • Light scented candles
  • Savor a warm cup of coffee or tea.
  • Play with a pet.
  • Work in your garden.
  • Get a massage.
  • Curl up with a good book.
  • Listen to music.
  • Watch a comedy

Don’t get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that you forget to take care of your own needs. Nurturing yourself is a necessity, not a luxury.

  • Set aside relaxation time. Include rest and relaxation in your daily schedule. Don’t allow other obligations to encroach. This is your time to take a break from all responsibilities and recharge your batteries.
  • Connect with others. Spend time with positive people who enhance your life. A strong support system will buffer you from the negative effects of stress.
  • Do something you enjoy every day. Make time for leisure activities that bring you joy, whether it be stargazing, playing the piano, or working on your bike.
  • Keep your sense of humor. This includes the ability to laugh at yourself. The act of laughing helps your body fight stress in a number of ways.

Learn the relaxation response

You can control your stress levels with relaxation techniques that evoke the body’s relaxation response, a state of restfulness that is the opposite of the stress response. Regularly practicing these techniques will build your physical and emotional resilience, heal your body, and boost your overall feelings of joy and equanimity.

IS LEARNING A DIFFICULT PROCESS

When it comes to the topic of learning or studies, there arises various queries and comments. Is learning that difficult or a boresome work. Before we blame our Education system or institutes,we need to realise some actual factors. Learning is not a hard job, in fact learning is a delight if you accept it as a friend. It’s just a form of entertainment from which you get to know more. Education is the thing which makes a person complete and everyone must have access to it. Often the process is misunderstood, its aim is  to learn and not merely to crack a exam or to earn a degree. In this case parents and students get worried and anxious about getting into various institutes. They believe that the only way to access it is by joining an institute and spend money on it. It is a misconception, truth is where you study doesn’t matter but how you study is important. The light is within you,the interest to learn new things will help you access it. It’s only lack of attentiveness and sometimes parent’s pressure by which students ends up in coaching centres. A person doesn’t need to go for a special coaching if he has self control and willingness to achieve his goal. It’s just needs a little effort. The process doesn’t eat much of your time but it needs your interest and concentration.

To make the learning process easier and effective one needs to grow interest which can be achieved by active form of learning.

  1. While you are learning a topic first you need to give a thorough reading so that you can form an idea.
  2. You must raise questions and try to explain it yourself. While searching for the answer you get to know more about the topic further you will grow interest in the field.
  3. To have better understanding one needs to explain the concept to other person. You should make sure that you can answer to their queries and make the concept simpler.
  4. The next thing one needs to do is to write down the concept in own words. This makes sure that you never forget the concept.

Apart form these there must be a regular practice. Inorder to follow these, one must have self discipline. If you are able to work in streamlined manner with full dedication you’ll definitely succeed in the process.Once you decide what you want, you need to focus on it without falling for any sort of distraction and must work hard to reach it. Discipline is the important factor for this, if one can practice it there is no need for the person to relay on other and can function independently.

MEANING OF MOTIVATION

Multicolored Bontainer

Kilimanjaro is a snow – covered mountain that is 19,710 feet high and is said to be the highest mountain of Africa ……. close to the western summit there is the dried and frozen carcass of a leopard . No one has explained what the leopard was seeking at the altitude.

Ernest Hemingway

In the above passage , two points draw the attention of the reader . First, the behaviour of the leopard was purposive – that he was trying to find out something by climbing on the snow -covered peak . Second, to understand the leapord’s behaviour , we would have to understand his purpose – what he was seeking . But one thing is sure that there was some force of motivation behind such action . Motivation is the main determinant of an individual’s behavior . The term ‘Motivation’ is derived from the word ‘Motive’ . Motive is a combination of of thought , feeling or condition that causes one to act . Motive can be for a short period or can be for a long longer one . If a child takes a colourful ball , he plays with the ball but if , in the meantime , he is attracted towards the other colourful ball , or toy, then we say that his motive for the first ball was a short period . But if a player wants to win gold medal at the international level and he/ she works hard for years to get the medal , we say that his/her motive is for longer period .

Human behavior is controlled , directed and modified through certain motives . When a person feels hungry and searches for food , we say that he/she is motivated by his/her drive , i.e. biological drive . When he/she gets food and is satisfied , we say that his/her drive for food has been fulfilled .

Motivation is one of the main psychological factors which affects performance . Motivation means to be inspired to do something . The definition of motivation is to give reason , enthusiasm or interest that causes a specific action or certain behaviour . Motivation is present in every function of life .

The following definitions may clarify the meaning of motivation more explicitly .

According to Crooks and Stein, Any condition , that might energies and direct our actions” is called motivation.

According to Sage, The drive to strive ” is called motivation .

According to Alderman, Motivation is the general level of arousal to action in an individual .”

Motivation is the inclination to persue and persist in activities related to one’s sports .”

  1. Authoritarian Leadership

In this type of leadership, autocratic leader have full authority and responsibility of the work. He gives instructions and explains duties to his subordinates without consulting with them. He holds the power and has authority of decision making. This style of leadership has negative effect as leader himself takes all decisions, and doesn’t concern for his subordinates opinion. In autocratic leadership, less time is consumed in taking action because here leader is the one person who decides, give orders and employees do work accordingly. But somewhere, it have a negative impact on employees because may be they feel that their opinions and suggestions are of no use. Basically, in this type of leadership there is no delegation of authority by leader.

Autocratic Leadership

2. Democratic Leadership

In this type of leadership, leader includes every individual in decision making process or any policy formulation. He consults with his subordinate before taking any decision and let them influence his decision sometimes as per the requirements of management. He decentralise his authority by doing so. Leader himself forces his subordinates to give their input or ideas which will be beneficial for the management. It also helps in boosting morale or motivating employees, they feel that their participation is also important in decision-making process.

Democratic Leadership

3. Free-rein Leadership

This style of leadership is different from above two style of leadership in many ways. Here, leader delegate his responsibility to subordinates for decision making and he himself doesn’t intervene. He gives no order or direction to his subordinates and permits the group to work as per their opinion or ideas. He wants that each individual gives his best and take all efforts to achieve the set goals.
