Journey of the Technologies that shaped today’s world: Electricity

The heat engines namely steam engine and Internal Combustion engine solved travel and transportation problems of mankind. From depending on manual human labour and animal power- which came with a number of limitations, to portable engines that could drive the wheels without being tiered for hours and for miles; the jump was significant. The society started progressing in leaps and bounds. Raw material could reach factories faster and finished products could reach markets faster. Agriculture produces could reach to consumers faster.

But human endeavour to understand nature and natural forces did not end here. Man continued to find laws that governed nature based on natural phenomenon. These laws inspired inventors to build machine that put these laws to use for making the human lives easier and far more enriching. One such discovery that changed the course of human civilization forever was ELECTRICITY.

Humans were introduced to electricity by electric eel and such aquatic creatures. However, this introduction was hardly productive. The next big milestone came when humans discovered Static Electricity. Rubbing of certain materials on certain other materials made the material charged and it could attract lighter objects like feathers. The first record of this phenomenon is available since as early as 600 BCE. But this phenomenon was not well understood and could not be put to use to any human use.

In 17th and 18th century, more experiments were done on static electricity. Benjamin Franklin is credited to discovery of electricity. He used a kite and key to experiment in 1752. His experiment showed that the lightening is the same as electricity. This was a crucial understanding to see electricity in action in natural phenomenon. After all, science uses naturally occurring events as a step stone to develop its understanding, to mimic the event and put it to human use.

However, all these discoveries and experiments of static electricity were giving power in a sudden burst which was not possible to contain or put to any use. (In fact, to this day we wish to harness the power of lightening. It could solve all our power problems.) So, it was a milestone achievement when Italian physicist Alessandro Volta discovered that certain chemical reactions could also generate electricity. If one could control the rate of the chemical reaction, one could ensure a steady supply of electricity.

This discovery was that chemical reactions could generate electricity was quite a chance discovery. Around 1800, an Italian doctor Luigi Galvani found that a frog’s leg twitched when it touched two different kinds of metals. Volta studied these findings and concluded that the different metals created a potential difference and thus the electric current flowed. So, Volta needed only to create a potential difference between two points which could be connected through a wire for electric current to flow. As simple as water flowing through pipe.

The Voltaic cell opened a door for chemical cells. Different metals and electrolytes have been tried by different scientists. A few that we use till date are Lead Acid cell, and Dry cells (as in pencil/AAA batteries).

Abortion-a right or a choice?

What happens when people take the decisions of your life? When an unborn child is murdered before even stepping into this world? Who gave them the right to do so? Is it legal or illegal when a young girl is murdered with her unborn child by her parents? These questions triggerd in my mind while reading a recent story which took place in Telangana, where a 20-year old girl was murdered overnight by her parents because she refused for abortion. Digging deep into this story, I found out that the young girl was in love with a man from another caste and this was also a reason because of which her parents committed an unlawful crime by killing her overnight because her actions were against them. Earlier she agreed with her parents on aborting the child but later on she changed her mind and wanted to bring the baby in the world but she didn’t knew what misfortune was coming in her way and the poor child died even before opening his eyes. Who among us will be the one like her parents? Will try to commit this false crime? Or who among us will take a stand and support her and who all will fight with her? Stories like this revolve around the world where again the society plays a major role, not allowing the people to live and breath. According to the WHO, every year an estimated 40-50 million people who face unplanned pregnancy decide to have an abortion in the world. What a strange thing which is a tabu in some parts of the world where men cause women to be pregnant but it is the woman who alone bears the child and goes through a difficult period of pain and suffering. I am not only talking about teenage pregnancies but also about the mothers who face early pregnancy or about the mother who does not want to perceive. I am neither against the abortion nor standing with it, but as a girl I want the society to let the mother decide what she wants and not force her to kill the child because of various reasons.

Medical Termination of Pregnancy(MTP)

Since the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act allows women to seek abortion as a part of reproductive rights and gender justice. This amendment places India on the top league of the countries where a woman can make individual choices from their perspective. In India, abortions are legal in certain situations, as for unmarried girls, rape victims and for married women with different reasons. There has been a decreasing rate in abortion since India made it illegal to detect the sex of the foetus. But there is a time limit given to the woman for getting an abortion done. A woman should always make sure to have a safe abortion procedure inorder to keep her body safe and always ask the doctor before getting it done.

Reasons why women get this done

1.Peer pressure, the biggest reason for a woman to get her child aborted. Where society never lets the woman live and allow to make her own decision which makes the abortion as the only solution. 2.Female Foeticide, which comes under peer pressure, where the society never lets a girl child to step into this world and gets her killed before her birth. 3.Rape victims and differently- abled.

Since this is a very vague and wide topic, I would like to end it here with a quote “Abortion is a part of being a mother and caring for children because part of her caring of her children is knowing when its not a good idea to bring them into the world”-Katha Pollitt.

Companies Are Turning to Digital Marketing to Survive COVID-19: Here’s Why

As we already know that Covid-19 has become a global pandemic and it is here to stay for quite a while. As this pandemic has caused a sense of chaos among the global companies and made them think and also change the ways on how they used to execute their business strategies.

Coming across the results, majority of the company owners have not succeeded in planning out some new strategy to balance out the chaos created by the pandemic.

It seems that that they are unable to the accept the fact that their previous strategies or the way they used to work may not work now. They will have to adapt to the current situation and make changes accordingly to survive this pandemic.

Some of the organizations which used to work hand in hand have now adopted Digital Marketing as a part of their survival plan.

Some of the company owners have not only embraced the pandemic but are willing to face the temporary economic downfall and then try to recover from it later on as quickly as possible.

Major impacts of Covid-19 on Business companies.

As we know that there’s no such business that’s not been affected by the corona virus but the companies that are suffering the most are the startups which do not have a large capital to keep their company alive and even the companies which highly rely on meeting and face to face interactions like hair salons, gyms, sporting complexes and clothing stores.

Some of the companies which usually had unbelievable amount of growth by the customer referrals are now experiencing such major revenue loss that their reaction to this problem is to cut the marketing costs instead of heading and thinking about the solution.

On the other hand the unusual reactions from the people have caused a lot of harm to the larger B2B companies that serve these smaller businesses.

Digital marketing can help all sorts of business ideas or strategies irrespective of the company’s net worth. The customers are still in need of the products that they used to purchase before the pandemic so the company just has to change the ways in which they reach their audience.

How to take your business online.

If we talk about the time when there was no corona virus, People knew where the best pizza was sold or the best quality beauty products.

But now as there is a complete shutdown and the companies are no where to be seen, People wonder which ones are still in business and where they can spend their money to buy the essentials.

It’s a great opportunity to the businesses which have been highly affected by the deadly virus. With the help of digital marketing they can get in touch with the customers and start boosting their brand on their website or social media platform.

Communicating with the customers.

The first step involves the interaction between the business and the customers. The companies which were never socially or digitally active will now have to change their ways and build strong connections online for the scope of their survival.

  • The companies which are affected by the corona virus should take the initiative and contact their customers via email or sms and explain them how the services have changed and how they can still avail the services.
  • Make an advertisement go viral on a newsletter on how the company have managed to keep up with the crisis and what are the necessary changes made which should be known by the people.
  • The power of social media cannot be neglected here, a simple public post on Facebook or Instagram can be used as a source to reach out the customers.

Charging up the company website.

It is a fine opportunity for the global companies to invest in longer term channels only if the marketing budget allows.

The world has become unstable and the people are not certain on what to do, here alot of external tactics can be used to for internal success as creating a blog for the company or enabling the sales of the materials.

Let’s look up to some of the examples :

Sharing vital information on the web site’s homepage regarding the business queries and letting the audience know that the business is still ongoing.

Updating the service pages with some catchy new photos and descriptions would do the job and if possible add certain discounts which would catch the eye of a lot of audience.

E-commerce system would help the company in taking online orders so it should be a top priority. Some of the platforms which can be uself for such agendas are Shopify or even Paypal.

Building the company’s social media presence.

With isolation and social distancing in hand people are spending most of their time online, this is a great opportunity to take your business on social media and start interacting with more and more people.

There is a huge increase in the time spent by the people of Italy on Facebook and when it comes to Instagram the people of USA are no further left behind they top the chart by 43.1% active users in isolation.

This is a one time opportunity for all the business leads to get on social media and set a goal to build a large set of online following.

Let’s see how the companies can do that –

Updating or sharing various sets of things such as contents or blogs related to the company or related to the social aspects.

Humor is something that is loved by the audience and the posts or videos regarding humor would catch a lot of audience.

Get in touch with an influenceer and start working with him as a lot of influencers are left set open due to the coronavirus outbreak and are available for a reasonable price.

By making these kind of certian and easy changes with less amount of money involved a company could benefit even after the lockdown is over and normalcy is availed.

Will India have SUPERPOWERS like USA?

The world is almost ruled by powerful countries like USA, China, Japan, Russia etc. and its none of the wonder that developed countries are helping as well as exploiting the developing countries. Developing countries like India, Pakistan, Srilanka and many more… are mostly dependent on the developed countries, but the biggest question arises will India be list of the superpower countries by 2050. The answer would be yes, but unfortunately due to pandemic situation that number will rise to 2055-2060 because India faced a major setback due to this and also India build a strong relation with other countries with help of our respected Prime Minister sir. Let us look out which factors are going to help to build a nation with superpowers:

1- Economic growth

Chinese economy is based on foreign investment, while India is growing based on a more local economic sector. So if we look in future i.e. after 30-40 India will overtake as it is very slow process. We know very well that many MNCs have begun to invest tremendously in India and has started to rely on Indian engineers for their next generation products. Companies like GM, Boeing, Motorola and many others have begun to build their Research and Development facilities and Asian headquarters in India. They see more potential on Indian market. If India is able to maintain this steady growth, it can definitely become 2nd largest economy by 2050.

3) Military power

India stands on 4th rank in terms of defense with the budget of 54 billion $ and 13L+ army man. India has a total of 2,102 aircrafts and a naval strength of 295 and is ready to tackle any military emergency. India is gaining new technology and ideas from world and also our DRDO is working very efficient like wise India adopted 5th generation fighter plane from Russia and Defense Drone technology from USA and other technology too from Israel. Therefore if India increases the defense budget in next 3-4 decades, specially in Air force and cyber and New technology than India definitely can handle any worse situation.

3- Diplomacy and international relations

India’s Diplomacy is standing at a good potions no matter still there are many internal disputes but in the eyes of world India is at a better place. India is able to maintain relation with foreign countries in a stable and steady manner which will ultimately help the people of India. In the coming years India will be able to maintain permanent seat in UN Security Council which will be biggest achievement in diplomatic point of view.

4) Population

India has highest number of fresh minds, they are handled correctly with innovative and interesting education system than none of the country can stop India to be listed in top 5 countries. Youth is the biggest asset of India and no other country has this much amount of youth in their population. In the coming years, some of the strong nations of the world will face problem of decrease in populations and this will lead to, a decline in workforce, India will face no such problem.

India’s education system need to be modified a bit and student instead of memorizing theories, they should be taught to learn and understand the concept. The subject related to entrepreneurship should be added at early age so that they get knowledge of business at early age which would help them and ultimately help the nation.

5- Science and Technology

India has greatest potential yet to be showed to the world in the field of science and technology. New and new startups are evolving around us day by day and that will help a lot. Our scientist proved that India can even complete the mission on a budget of bollywood movie. India is also 4th country to land on the moon. India is emerging slowly in the field of software and will create a great impact in the near future.

‘ DARK ‘ Season-3 Theories

Season 3 of Netflix’s Dark is releasing on 27th June, and the anticipation is rising. The time-bending series dropped an explosive cliffhanger at the end of season 2, which left us with a whole lot of questions. Considering how confusing the show is anyway, adding an alternate dimension was just icing on the cake. There are some theories which will leave us with  more questions than answers floating around about what happens in the final season  – check it out.

1. Winden will be removed from the timeline entirely.

Considering this is the final cycle, and the intangible knot of timelines has gotten far beyond anyone’s control, something drastic is required. Some people have posited that the town of Winden, which is at the centre of this unholy mess, will be obliterated entirely.

2.The world that alternate Martha comes from is the ‘world without time’ that Adam has been trying to create.

We don’t exactly know everything that Adam has been up to during his timeline, only the bits and pieces that we get during other people’s interactions with him. Mainly, we know he wants to create a world without time . If Adam succeeds in a part of his timeline we haven’t seen yet, then this other world would already exist, because it exists outside of time. This might be where alternate Martha comes from.

3. Helge Doppler has an injured eye in the new trailer, meaning it’s probably him from the alternate dimension.

In the dimension we’re familiar with, Helge has a ear injury (due to Ulrich, If I remember correctly). However, in the new trailer, there’s a shot of Helge with an injured eye , meaning it’s definitely alt-Helge, from the new Martha’s world.

4. Martha is Jonas’ replacement in the other world, as he does not even exist there. There’s even a shot of her wearing Jonas’ yellow coat.

According to Old Claudia, she’s seen the world without Jonas, which means he was probably never born in the alternate world. In that world, Martha lives Jonas’ life.

5. The shot of Stranger/Jonas working on a God Particle in the past could mean he’s accepted his role in founding Sic Mundus and ultimately becoming Adam.

The Stranger, from the post-apocalypse version is shown in the trailer working on a God Particle machine in the distant past under the church.

This could mean he’s decided to follow the path to becoming Adam.

6. The pendant Jonas found near the lake in 2019 belonged to Hannah , who was drowned there by someone while stuck in the 1950s.

In a photo of the filming of 3 season, Hannah has a pendant around her neck, which Jonas found on the lake in 2019. Bartoz spoke of the legend of a dead woman on the lake that grabs people by the legs. It is possible that Katharina, wanting revenge, murdered Hannah while they were both in the 50s.

7. It is theorised that the new trio seen in the trailer is made up of the real Aleksander Tiedemann, or an alt-world Mads Nielsen.

The kid who plays Mads and the child seen in the trailer, burning shit up like a pro, bear a striking resemblance. Similarly, the resemblance between Aleksander and the character seen is also quite notable. Considering his strange and unexplained history in the show, it’s a possibility.

8. Time moves backwards in the alternate world, and everything there goes in reverse.

There are 2 examples of this in the trailer – one is where Jonas is running backwards, and another is of Martha crying and tears going up her eyes. However, that is quite an impractical scenario, so let’s see.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned though, it’s that this show is always ready to surprise you, no matter how many theories you read online. So let’s wait and watch!

INDIA MOVING TOWARDS SELF RELIANCE

Progress of India towards self-reliance is governed by certain pressing issues and their timely solution to achieve self-reliance. India has succeeded in keeping the rate of spread of Coronavirus which has caused a lot of injury to the social and emotional status of the society and created obstacles for India in achieving the aim of becoming self-reliant and seek self-sustenance.

If we look back to the days when economic reforms were introduced in the 1990s that gradually brought improved result in bringing the economy on the right track and resulted in improvement in the living standards of the people. However, we could have put in more thrust on technological and related advancements. This lacuna surfaced because of the trade policy on import and export of the goods.

The Central Government is now focusing more on development of infrastructure, usage of technology to optimum, upliftment of human resources. This is the right time when India can revive the economy by bringing about some major changes in the usage of available resources with the help of penning down new methodologies.

Issues that have caused hindrance for India’s progress towards self-reliance are; keeping away from full open markets that aligned with globalization, rate of production and manufacture, China playing an indispensable role in the Indian economy, Centre-State face off in concurrent sectors particularly agriculture.

If we shift our focus towards the solutions available to us viz. the availability of trained and skilled workforce for self-sustenance, shifting the dependence of manufacturing from China to India. India has a considerable young population strength that can be trained to attract new investments from global manufacturing giants. Optimum utilization of Indian human resource can set a new trend in the global economy. India is a ground for development and also a market with a huge potential for finished goods.

India possesses relevant aspects for generating the demand and consumption of the supply which can boost Indian self-sustenance. At the same time, while striking the balance between opening more areas for investment, India needs to seek healthy competition among the local and regional level. An opportunity to recognize the scattered local expertise of the Indian people in creating hand made useful things.

Policies can be framed to give more inclination towards local innovative crafts and skills so that they survive capitalism. Increasing control over agricultural products, defence sector, public health system and developing an indigenous chain of supply will enhance the self-sustenance. Increasing transparency in government purchase system adopting global procurement standards can enhance the rate of provision of material for expecting real-time growth.

India can focus on areas where it can shoulder the leadership and invite the investors. Usage of technology for the growth of Indian subcontinent is still underexplored. The world has turned virtual and advancement towards artificial intelligence and automation is the need of the hour. Hence, it can be summed up that framing real-time policies that focus more on meeting the results and adequate pumping of resources for proper development of education sector, health sector and catering for training the human resources will take India a step closer to achieve self-reliance.

Master plan of China- DISCLOSED!!!

The life after the pandemic situation will not be normal again as this pandemic situation is also not normal.

Knowingly or unknowingly the virus developed in China (according to news) created the biggest impact in the health and economic sector of the world. Nobody knows how much time will it take to come out completely from this pandemic situation. China with the most power in terms of technology and population might have a master plan to be executed in the name of Novel Corona virus by supplying the goods of medical department and further other essential commodities which might be needed by the people in the near future to the world and soon they will earn billions of dollar by supplying it to the world. So, again now world will depend more on China than before.

download

We as a responsible citizen of India, need to stop the master plan of China as in the near future it will harm us very very badly. Let us understand by an example, India is surrounded by countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri lanka, Nepal this all countries have taken huge amount of money from China like wise Pakistan took huge money from China to develop a road passing from the mountain, so now Pakistan is in debt to pay the money and in return China can do anything to gain the money back. Pakistan took more money from China than from IMF, and has to pay around 19 billion US$, which will be extremely hard for Pakistan. In the same way Sri lanka owes 1.4 billion US$ which is left over from from 99 years and now China will ask for payback or will capture the Sri lanka. Bangladesh debt for 64.9 billion US$. India is also in debt of paying to China, but China will not capture India first it will first capture our surrounding countries and than head towards India. So, we need to become very attentive towards each step of China and understand their activity, we also need to stop buying Chinese goods to save our country and instead go for Made In India goods. JAY HIND…

How Tea drinking has evolved around the world

When you get up early in the morning and start your day the first thing you aspire for is tea. Tea is refreshing, energetic drink that sets up your day. we get to know about the popularity of tea from the fact that it is 2nd most consumed drink after water all around the globe. Tea is an aromatic beverage commonly prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over tea powder prepared by crushing leaves of the Camellia sinensis , an evergreen shrub (bush) usually found in East Asia . Tea is very ancient drink as its origin dates back to around 3rd century AD which is mentioned in medical records of Hua Tuo in the regions of today’s worlds North Burma and southwestern China.

Tea: history and origin

Tea has been in use as energetic and recreational drink since ancient time. During 18th-19th century tea had become very popular among Britishers who were using it as recreational drink. They were so much addicted to tea that they had started trading Opium drug derived from the seed capsules of the opium poppy Papaver somniferum grown in mostly Northeast part of India for the miraculous plant leaves Camellia sinensis from plantations of China. Later the Chinese liberals started fights against this conspiracy of western countries against Asian countries especially against East Asia. This led to famous Opium wars between two countries.

12 July :- New conversations day

“Many are so in the habit of making lazy conversation about weather & sport that we don’t take the opportunity to ask interesting questions and have rewarding conversations” .

Awkward Silence are suggesting a number of alternative conversation starters that people can use including ‘Which birthday tradition should change?’, ‘How would you feel about your partner doing kissing scenes in a film?”, and ‘What do you want to achieve with your life?’. “Conversation is extremely powerful. It’s the where ideas blossom, it’s where connections are made, it’s the life-blood of relationships”

Yet despite how impactful it is, people tend to under-value its worth.” “This is why New Conversations Day is so important, it’s to help people wake up to how rewarding new conversations can be.”

New Conversations Day is about not waiting until tomorrow to have the conversations we could be having.Like asking each other what we should be doing with our lives & making decisions, or talking to our parents & discovering their stories, or simply sharing the big ideas on our hearts” said Mr Benbow.

We want people on 12 July to not be content with dull conversation, we want them having genuinely interesting conversations. We have hundreds of suggestions to get them started, but each conversation is unique.

Ask someone what they would have said if they were the first person on the moon, or whether it’s OK for couples to have secrets from each other. Ask someone what they would teach their children about alcohol, or whether they think animal have morals. Ask someone what their idea would be for a TV show, or about the last time they cried.

Big Surprising News: Planet Nine does exist in our Solar System …///

Two recent studies have shown that the existence of a mysterious, hypothetical Planet Nine could explain why the planets in our Solar System don’t fully line up with the Sun. Researchers have been speculating about a ninth planet since January this year, and these latest studies add more weight to the hypothesis that, at some point in time at least, there was an extra planet orbiting our Sun.

In fact, if Planet Nine does exist (or did), it would help to explain something that scientists have puzzled over for decades – why the Solar System is tilted.

Credit : Third Party Reference

What does that mean?

Well, basically, all of the prime 8 planets that orbit our Sun do so on the same plane, making the Solar System look like a disc. The problem is that the Sun spins at a different angle, with its axis roughly 6 degrees off from the rest of the planets.

In the past, researchers have attempted to explain this slant by blaming the temporal tug of passing star or interactions between the Sun’s magnetic field and the disc of the dust that formed an our planets. But none of these hypotheses have fully accounted for the misalignment.

“Using an analytic model for secular interactions between Planet Nine and the remaining giant planets, here we show that a planet with similar parameters can naturally generate the observed obliquity as well as the specific pole position of the sun’s spin axis, from a nearly aligned initial state,” the team states.

“Thus, Planet Nine offers a testable explanation for the otherwise mysterious spin-orbit misalignment of the solar system.”

Credit: Third Party Reference

In the French study, conducted by astronomers at the Côte d’Azur Observatory in Nice, the team suggests that Planet Nine’s tilt is likely to blame for this misalignment, rather than its mass.

According to the researchers, while mass is often used to explain why objects in space influence one another – and that’s what the Caltech team looked into – in this case, it would mean that Jupiter – the juggernaut of our Solar System – could have caused the tilt, which it didn’t.

Instead, their models showed that Planet Nine’s tilt could have skewed everything else – coming to the same conclusion as the Caltech researchers. Combined, the results of both the studies add a significant amount of evidence that Planet Nine exists, though not enough to actually prove it.

Instead, the studies seem to say that something influenced the early Solar System and made the mysterious 6-degree tilt – and Planet Nine fits the profile.

Credit: Third Party Reference

While Planet Nine will stay hypothetical until researchers manage to actually find it in the night sky, it’s not stopping researchers from piling up evidence of its existence. For example, revert in April, a team started devising a way to spot the planet using black-body radiation, which basically scans the sky for hotspots that could be planets cooling down.

These latest results haven’t been peer-reviewed as yet, so we need to take them with a grain of salt for now. While the debate over Planet Nine will likely continue well into the future, it’s exciting to see that it fits into models explaining why our Solar System is the way it is.

Journey of the Technologies that shaped today’s world: IC Engine

Steam engines changed a lot. They revolutionized how things were carried around, how people moved around and how industries worked. However, steam engines worked on of course, steam, which is not easy to create. It cannot be stored easily. So, one needed water and coal. Coal needed to be burned, water would heat up and steam would build. To generate sufficient power, the entire setup needed to be significantly large. That meant its applications could not be ubiquitous.

Therefore, despite the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and power of steam engine, it was not practical to be adopted in all the places. Especially for day to day activities, it was not sensible to use such bulky machinery. As a result, steam engine despite their success in industrial and large applications, did not change a lot of things for individuals. For personal usage, the machinery needed to be compact, portable, and most importantly safe. This was achieved when Internal Combustion engines arrived on the scene.

The first Internal Combustion Engine was created by Étienne Lenoir around 1860. However, the real popularity and application of Internal Combustion Engines came Nicolaus Otto created the modern IC engine in 1876. The IC Engine works on hydrocarbon fuels which are extracted from Petroleum- mostly Diesel, Petrol and Gas. These fuels have high calorific value and they are highly combustible. This makes these fuel very useful but also very dangerous. IC Engines used valves to control the flow of fuel and supply of air. The controlled combustion generates heat which makes the gases expand. As the space is confined with only piston movable. The piston moves and through crank-shaft mechanism the wheel moves.

The most popular IC engines are 4-stroke engines. 4-stroke means there are four steps in each cycle of the engine operation. These steps are-

  • Intake stroke
  • Compression stroke
  • Combustion stroke
  • Exhaust stroke

As the fuel has high calorific value, a very small engine can generate sufficient power to move a car or a truck or a bike. These can be very compact and highly portable. IC engines have revolutionized how people move individually. The first modern car was built by the German engineer by Karl Benz in 1885. In early 1900s, companies like Ford and General Motors took car-making to next level. Assembly line production made the car manufacturing and later the entire manufacturing industry very fast and highly efficient. In last 100 years, cars and bikes have taken over the roads. More and more people now have cars and bikes. Cars are still costly and remain a status symbol in the society.

The compactness of IC Engines also made it possible to design small but powerful machines. This independence made it possible to design machines that could fly or travel under water. While the independence of owning individual machines is exciting, but this also increases the pollution. The cars and motorbikes are one of the largest polluters across the world.

Our independence to move around is wonderful and precious but we also have to understand that the environment is priceless. We have only one earth. We got it from our forefathers, and we have to handover this to the next generation. We should use our bikes and cars sparingly and responsibly. Pool whenever possible, use public transport whenever possible. Let’s not turn the boons bestowed by the science into a curse.

No Automatic Conviction U/s 306 IPC For Abetment Of Suicide Merely Because Accused Was Found Guilty U/s 498A IPC: SC

Coming straight to the nub of the matter, it has to be said that the Supreme Court just recently on November 26, 2019 in a latest, landmark and extremely laudable judgment titled Gurjit Singh vs State of Punjab in Criminal Appeal Nos. 1492-1493 of 2010 has remarkably ruled that merely because an accused is found guilty of an offence punishable under Section 498-A of the Indian Penal Code and the death of the wife has occurred within a period of seven years of marriage, the accused cannot be automatically held guilty for the offence punishable under Section 306 of the IPC by employing the presumption under Section 113-A of the Indian Evidence Act. To sustain a conviction under Section 306 IPC, the Apex Court made it clear that the prosecution has to establish that some act or illegal omission by the accused has driven the deceased to commit the suicide. Very rightly so!

To start with, this commendable judgment authored by Justice BR Gavai for himself and Justice Navin Sinha sets the ball rolling by first and foremost observing in para 1 that, “These appeals by special leave challenge the judgment and order dated 20.2.2009 passed by the Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Criminal Appeal No. 544-DBA of 2001 and Criminal Appeal No. 959-SB of 2000. All the four accused, including the appellant herein (accused No. 3), who is husband of the deceased, were charged and tried by the learned trial Court for the offence punishable under Section 304-B and Section 498-A of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (hereinafter referred to as “IPC”). The other accused were the father (accused No. 1), the mother (accused No. 2) and the sister-in-law (wife of brother) (accused No. 4) of the appellant. The Additional Sessions Judge, Hoshiarpur, held that the prosecution had succeeded in proving the case against accused Nos. 1 to 3 for the offence punishable under Section 498-A of the IPC but has failed to prove the case against the said accused (Nos. 1, 2 and 3) for the offence punishable under Section 304-B of the IPC. Insofar as accused No. 4 is concerned, it was held that the prosecution has failed to prove the case against her for both the offences and she was accordingly acquitted of the offence charged. The trial Judge, therefore, convicted the appellant and his father and mother for the offence punishable under Section 498-A of the IPC and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of three years and to pay a fine of Rs. 4000/- each and, in default of payment of fine, to further undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of three months.”

As a consequence what ensued then is stated in para 2 that, “Being aggrieved by the conviction and sentence under Section 498-A of the IPC, the appellant along with his parents preferred an appeal (being Criminal Appeal No. 959-SB of 2000) before the High Court. So also, the State preferred an appeal (being Criminal Appeal No. 544-DBA of 2001), being aggrieved by that part of the order by which the trial Court acquitted accused No. 4 and also acquitted accused Nos. 1, 2 and 3 for the offence punishable under Section 304-B of the IPC. The High Court upheld the conviction of accused Nos. 1, 2 and 3 for the offence punishable under Section 498-A of the IPC. It also upheld the acquittal of accused No. 4 and further held that, though the prosecution could not bring the case under Section 304-B of the IPC, the appellant herein was liable to be punished for the offence punishable under Section 306 of the IPC. The High Court maintained the order of the sentence and fine as recorded by the trial Judge for the offence punishable under Section 498-A of the IPC. For the offence under Section 306 of the IPC, the High Court sentenced the appellant herein to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of five years and to pay a fine of Rs. 5000/- and in default of payment of fine, to further undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of five months. Being aggrieved thereby, the present appeals are preferred by the appellant.”

To be sure, it is then elegantly observed in para 5 that, “The perusal of the record would reveal that though the appellant has disputed the date of marriage to be 04.02.1989, both the courts have disbelieved him and rightly so. The deceased died an unnatural death on 28.09.1994 by consuming poison. As such, the unnatural death occurred within a period of seven years of the marriage. The learned trial Judge has acquitted the appellant for the offence punishable under Section 304-B of the IPC since the prosecution has failed to prove the demand for dowry, while convicting him along with the parents for the offence punishable under Section 498-A of the IPC. The High Court maintained the conviction under Section 498-A of the IPC, however, it also convicted the appellant for the offence punishable under Section 306 of the IPC with the aid of Section 113-A of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.”

More importantly, it is then rightly envisaged in para 33 that, “Applying the aforesaid principles to the present case, we find that though the prosecution is successful in proving the case under Section 498-A of the IPC, we are of the view that the prosecution has failed to prove that the cruelty was of such a nature which left no choice to the deceased than to commit suicide. The prosecution has not been in a position to place on record any evidence to establish beyond reasonable doubt that any act or omission of the accused instigated the deceased to commit suicide. There is no material on record to show that immediately prior to the deceased committing suicide there was a cruelty meted out to the deceased by the accused due to which the deceased had no other option than to commit the suicide. We are of the view, that there is no material placed on record to reach a cause and effect relationship between the cruelty and the suicide for the purpose of raising presumption.”

What’s more, it is then elaborated in para 34 stating that, “It could further be seen from the evidence on record that the time gap between the last visit of the deceased to her parents with regard to the illegal demand and the date of commission of suicide is about two months. As such, there is nothing on record to show that there was a proximate nexus between the commission of suicide and the illegal demand made by the appellant. In the case of Sanju Alias Sanjay Singh Sengar vs. State of M.P. [(2002) 5 SCC 371] this Court found that there was time gap of 48 hours between the accused telling the deceased ‘to go and die’ and the deceased ‘committing suicide’. As such, this Court held that there was no material to establish that the accused had abetted the suicide committed by the deceased.”

It cannot be lost on us that it is then pointed out in para 35 that, “Another aspect that needs consideration is that the cases wherein this Court has held that the conviction under Section 306 of the IPC was tenable though charge was only under Section 304-B of the IPC, it was found the charge specifically stated that the deceased was driven to commit suicide on account of cruelty meted out to the deceased. However, in the present case, the charge reads thus:

“That you all on 28.9.94 in the area of Village Bohan, the death of Jaswinder Kaur wife of you, Gurjit Singh and daughter-in-law of you, Gurdial Singh and Mohinder Kaur and sister-in-law of Ranjit Kaur, was caused otherwise than under normal circumstances, you all being her relatives, within a period of seven years of her marriage subjected her to cruelty and harassment for all in connection with demand for dowry and thereby committed an offence of dowry death punishable under section 304-B of the Indian Penal Code and within my cognizance.””

Needless to say, a bare perusal of para 35 would make it clear what is then mentioned in para 36 stating that, “It would thus be seen, that the charge does not state that the deceased was driven to commit suicide on account of the harassment meted out to the deceased. It also does not mention that the accused had abetted in commission of suicide by the deceased. In that view of the matter, we are of the considered view that the cases wherein conversion is held to be permissible are clearly distinguishable.”

No wonder, the Apex Court Bench then rightly held in para 37 that, “In the foregoing circumstances, the appeals are partly allowed. Conviction under Section 498-A of the IPC is maintained and the conviction under Section 306 of the IPC is set aside. The appellant is acquitted of the charge under Section 306 of the IPC.” Finally, it is then held in the last para 38 that, “The appellant is stated to be on bail, his bail bonds shall stand discharged and he is directed to surrender within four weeks for serving the remaining period of his sentence, if not already undergone.”

It is quite discernible from the above foregoing discussion that the Supreme Court while citing leading case laws like Ramesh Kumar vs State of Chhattisgarh (2001) 9 SCC 618 minced no words to conclude unambiguously that there shall be no automatic conviction U/s 306 IPC for abetment of suicide merely because accused was found guilty U/s 498A IPC by employing the presumption U/s 113-A of the Indian Evidence Act. It is imperative that to sustain conviction under Section 306 IPC, the prosecution has to establish that some act or illegal omission by the accused has driven the deceased to commit suicide. As nothing of any act or illegal omission by the accused could be proved that could be considered as having driven the deceased to commit suicide, therefore the accused conviction under Section 306 IPC is set aside even while he is held guilty under Section 498A of the IPC! Very rightly so!

Clarity in confusion

If there is no clarity in confusion then there should be no confusion in clarity. If it is not clear that doesn’t mean it is not clear that meant to confuse you to make it appear as a confusion. If you think it as a confusion it definitely becomes as a confusion because they make it appear look like confusion and tend to make you confuse the clarity that you have about the confusion. There should be clarity in confusion which no longer makes confusion as confusion and make us clear about the confusion.

“Confuse the confusion so that the confusion becomes clarity.” If confusion can no longer confuse your confusion then there will be a chance to clear the confusion. If we aren’t clear about something there will be a large chance to be confused because there is no clarity. If we have a clarity then there will be no chance to get confused. If we get confused then there are chances to get clarity. If we don’t confuse over confusion,we can get clarity over confusion and can make confusion in clarity into clarity of confusion.

Confusion of confusion will definitely confuse the confusion and make us path of clarity disappear. The confusion replicates before the clarity comes into play. That makes clarity to get confused and try to make confusion as clarity and clarity as confusion and make confusion look so confused to know what confusion is. In order to stop it we need to get clarity before the confusion turns into confusion of confusion. For that try to confuse the confusion so that it gets confused and gets clarity because the confusion is in confusion and gets clarity over confusion by thinking clarity as confusion.

If we are clear about confusion then we can clear the confusion with the confusion itself. For that we should get clarity about confusion. To get clarity about confusion we should know about confusion and become confusion. If we try to confuse the confusion by becoming confusion it definitely doubts about confusion and try to get the clarity about it and in order to make it happen, it becomes as a clarity in the process. This is how we turn confusion into clarity by having clarity in confusion.

Confusion appears to confuse you and when we realise the fact that it just appears to do so and when we try to make what it is making us to feel then we can create the appearance of confusion. No one can create the confusion because it is not real. Confusion is just an illusion of clarity. No one gets confused, it’s only the lack of clariry which makes confusion. If confusion is clear then there is no confusion. If we have clarity over clarity then there is no need to have clarity over confusion because confusion never comes into the play.

If you are confused with the clarity that I gave on confusion then definitely you should follow the steps that I mentioned in order to get clarity in confusion.
