How to grow Aloevera and Uses of it

Most people know that you can use Aloevera to soothe sunburns. However, this versatile plant has several other medicinal properties, making it one of nature’s best herbal remedies. Its vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients make it an anti-inflammatory powerhouse. We can find Aloevera plant in everything from skin and hair care products to ointments, drinks.

There are 500 species of aloe vera, but Aloe barbadensis Miller, native to the Arabian peninsula, is the most widely available and most popular one. You can buy a small plant from farmers markets or small local growers, and let it grow, or buy a large plant and divide it as it gets even bigger.

Aloe vera needs a minimum of six hours of daily sunlight, so it’ll grow best in bright spots indoors (especially in the winter) or in a sheltered, sunny part of the garden. It can handle full sun, but it doesn’t need it. You can move the plant outside during summer, just make sure it receives the proper amount of light.

Aloe vera leaves are long and slightly curved with ragged edges. Inside, you’ll find a clear gel.

Use sharp, clean kitchen scissors or a knife, and cut a bottom leaf from the base of the plant. Place the cut aloe leaf into a small cup or glass, cut end down. You’ll notice a yellow sap seeping out—allow it to drain for 10 minutes before discarding it.

While not toxic in small quantities, this sap is bitter, has laxative properties, and can cause intestinal discomfort.

Once you get rid of the sap, it’s time to extract the aloe vera gel. Using a clean, sharp knife, trim the fleshy leaf’s top, bottom, and sides, then slice it horizontally, like filleting a fish. With a clean large spoon or a dull knife, gently scrape the mucilaginous gel into a container.

Aloe vera gel is known for its anti-inflammatory, skin protection, antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, and wound healing properties.

Aloevera gel is used to treat

Acne

Dandruff

Mosquito bites

It can be also used as moisturiser and sanitizer.

‘INDEPENDENCE DAY’ Celebration

Mother India breathed the fragrance of freedom on 15 August, 1947. In the picture, we can see the hoisting of the national flag presumably by a senior and respected member of some community. This is a common sight in India where patriotic feelings are expressed at this time of the year. It is but natural that we should all feel strongly for our country, and what better time to express these feelings than on Independence Day!

However, the happy look on the faces of these people cannot hide the ugly truths that stare us in the face even after more than sixty years of independence. It is good that we celebrate our freedom with great enthusiasm as depicted in the picture. But mere smiles, celebrations and flag hoisting ceremonies are of no use unless we imbibe the spirit of Indianness in us. The spirit exhibited on this day should become a part of our very being.

Generally we sing the national anthem with a lot of enthusiasm and then forget all about the relevance of the day as soon as the function is over. We throw sweet packets here and there and litter our surroundings. Moreover, in a country where more than fifty per cent of the population has a hand-to-mouth existence, the wastage of food is no less than sacrilege. If we do not respect the dignity of our people and surroundings, all the respect showered on the national anthem and the national song become meaningless

We must raise our voices in unison against the hypocritical phenomenon of paying lip-service to the concept of patriotism but stooping to grossly lackadaisical behaviour when it comes to performing our roles as Indians. Spitting or relieving ourselves in public places, not obeying the law while availing of transport facilities, disrespecting public property, joining mobs to create nuisance, calling strikes and bringing life to a halt on working days, remaining spectators to the corruption around us are all different patterns of behaviour that lower the prestige of our nation.

When we hoist the national flag, it is important that we feel clear in our conscience. One may argue that a small number of people setting the right example would not make much of a difference. This would indeed be a myopic interpretation of reality. The truth is that you may be a drop in the ocean, but the ocean is incomplete little gesture of respecting your country At least without in the true sense of the term would make a reasonable difference to the jawans on the border who risk their lives day and night to ensure that we can smile, secure in our knowledge of security when we look at the national flag fluttering high in the air.

It was after the win went the Company started exerting power over India. Our nation had its rebellion against the foreign rule for the first time in 1957. The entire country united against British power. It was an unfortunate event as India was defeated back then but after that time. Indian rule was then passed to the British who ruled our country till India got its independence. Our nation faced a long campaign to gain independence. Britain then began to weaken after two world wars and India was finally free. Leia kills Jabba by strangling him with the chains she was bound in, Lando dressed as guard helps fend off the remaining goons and helps the group escape. Yoda reveals to Luke the existence of another Skywalker before dying and becoming one with the Force, Obi-Wan’s Force Ghost tells Luke that the other Skywalker is his sister Leia.

The new Death star is protected by an energy shield that must be destroyed, the shield generator is located on the forest moon of Endor. Han leads a strike team to Endor which includes Leia, Luke and Chewie. The strike team makes use of a stolen imperial ship to get past the security undetected. They encounter a tribe of native Ewoks that take Leia to their settlements, after an initial conflict the team manages to convince the Ewoks to help them in their quest. Popular Instagram handles are known as “Influencers” but do they worth it?

ADITI RAJ

According to a report released by the corporate making company Kepios, more than half of the world’s population -a staggering 396 crore people-use social media. This means that apps like Instagram can easily target more than 100 crore people with just an single advertisement. As a result people we, the users, become the artefact and our behaviors are up for sale whether we know it or not.

Researchers have defined Instagram influencers as a new type of independent third-party endorser, who can shape the attitude of an audience through their blogs, tweets, and the use of other social media. Instagram influencers that inscribe a product seems powerful enough to make someone buy that stuff. You see these person daily either on your Instagram feed, stories or IGTV, and they start feeling so friendly so whenever they say something, it almost feels like they are helping you with recommendation like a friend would do, which is extremely powerful

According to me there’s nothing wrong with Instagram influencers as they help us to know different things, but of course like the other sectors in the world, you have bad apples, and bad actors too.

There have certain incidents, that Instagram influencers with prominent Instagram influencers have endorsed horrible products without testing them, only for the amount of money they are provided to advertise it.

I would further emphasize the article with an example where Kendall Jenner who is well known for her stunning looks, and is a huge Hollywood celebrity and is also one of the greatest influencer, advertise the Fyre Festival in The Bahamas was horribly wrong and even two documentaries were made about how much a disaster the entire thing was. Kendall reportedly for 250,000 dollars for the advertisement about the Fyre festival.

In this case she was not aware of the quality of the event, so I wouldn’t call her wrong ,but neither a smart one either. But there have been a case where the influencer tested for example a drink, and tested how horrible it was and still advertised it for an amount of money that was offered.

I do feel there are lot of good influencers who are very well going because of the double checking of products they advertise as they want their name in the good, and have a good credibility scores for future agreements and maybe their own products.

What is Social Disorganisation?

Disorganisation is a disturbance of the balance existing in the functioning of parts . The criterion of disorganisation is the function of what is done or not done …”

                           Ogburn and Nimkoff

Human are part of nature and just like nature

Humans have their own order . The orderliness depends on its internal strength to maintain its equilibrium . Society is said to be in equilibrium or orderliness as long as all the orders are functioned properly .

Whenever social equilibrium a severely disturbed ” social disorganisation ” sets in .Thus ” social disorganisation ” can be understood as nothing but the state of social disequilibrium in  which the smooth functioning of various parts of society gets disturbed .

Disruption or breakdown of the students of social relations and values resulting in the loss of social controls over individual and group behaviour is disorganisation .

Concept of Disorganisation

The concept of ” disorganisation ” occupies a prominent place in modern sociological literature.

The concept was developed by Thomas and Zanaiecki in their famous book , ” The Polish Peasant in Europe and America .”

According to them the term ” social disorganisation” refers to the decrease in the influence of the existing social rules of behaviour upon individual members .

Social Disorganisation is the process opposed to social organisation . Social organisation concept in an orderly relationship of parts .

Stuart A. Queen , Walter B Bolenjafter and Ernest B. Harper described social disorganisation in their book , ” Social Organisation and Disorganisation” as the counterpart of social organisation.

The term social organisation and social disorganisation are relative terms . They represent two aspects of the whole functioning of the social system

Comparing social disorganisation with social organisation Queen & Harper writes ,

If social organisation means the development of relationships which persons and groups find mutually satisfactory , disorganisation means their replacement by relationships which are disappointed, thwarted ,wishes , irritation and unhappiness. “

Hence , When the social equilibrium is disturbed and society gets out of gear i.e get disorganized.

Definitions:-

Emile Durkheim defined social disorganisation as ,

“a state of disequilibrium and lack of social solidarity or consensus among the members of society.”

According to Mowever , social disorganisation is ” the process by which the relationships between members of a group are shaken “

Robert Eolofairs states , ” social disorganisation is a disturbance in the pattern and mechanism of human relations .”

According to Elliot and Merrill , ” Social disorganisation represents a breakdown in the equilibrium of forces , a decay in the social structure , so that old habits and forms of social control no longer function effectively.”

Thus , social organisation implies a breakdown in bonds of relationship , coordination , teamwork and morale among groups and interrelated persons so as to impair the functions of the society or smaller social organisation. ___________________________________________

Characteristics of Social Disorganisation

Conflicts of Mores and of Institutions :- Mores and institutions are part of every society which regulate the social life of members .

The urge to innovate and liberalise with the passage of time makes old mores and institutions less effective and leads to the rise of new ideas and institutions  according to new needs .

This leads to an unwanted conflict disturbing the social order and causing social consensus.

Many social practices , ideals and institutions relating to female education , patriarchal family , widow marriage , dowry system , sati system etc are examples of such  conflicts .

Individuation :-  Man is more prone to think of himself and in terms of his own pleasure and leisure. The modern system has a great impact on individuation or individualistic aspects . The individuation affects the group behaviour of the society . Important issues such as education , marriage , occupation , etc , have become matters of individual decisions which are caused by the changing social values . This causes disturbance in social organisation and states towards disorganisation.

• Inconsistency between expectations and achievements :-  In disorganised society considerable inconsistency is visible between the expectations embodied in the social role and the extent to which these expectations can be realised by most persons.

When a large number of people in the society try to achieve goals in and anti – social manner there is a clear indication of the society being in a state of social disorganisation .

Transfer of functions from one group to another :-  Society undergoes many changes of social groups  time to time due to its dynamic nature . These changes result in social disorganisation as many do not respond well with changing the group pattern or functions of group in the society .

Inconsistency between status and rule :– Status and role of each individual are well defined . Changing social values and norms conditions may bring  the possibility of a conflict taking place between statuses of individuals and their roles .

Hence , disorganisation is characterized by an extreme uncertainty of social rules .

Types of Disorganisation

Elliot and Merrill stated three types of disorganisation which are interrelated to each other .

Three types of disorganisation are :-

Personal Disorganisation

He stated ,

the symptoms of persons disorganisation includes  juvenile delinquency , various types of crime , Insanity , drunkenness , suicide and gambling.

Family disorganisation

It includes divorce , illegitimate births , desertion , venereal disease.

Community Disorganisation.

It includes poverty, unemployment, overpopulation , lawlessness , and political corruption .

____________________________________________

Causes of Disorganisation

Social disorganisation is a complex process. To face challenges of social disorganisation it is necessary to study the nature of its causes . There are a number of factors that cause social disorganisation .

According to Sorokin , social disorganisation is the result of cultural degeneration of values in various spheres like arts , religion , law , family , economy , etc.

Hence , the change from Idealistic and ideational  culture to sensate culture is the main cause of disorganisation.

Elliot and Merril mentioned four major causes of disorganisation, ( •) the process under the three main heads :- cultural , political and economical.

(•) cultural Lag (•) conflicting attitudes and values (•) social crisis.

G.R. Madan has listed few factors that causes disorganisation such as

•  psychological factors

• physical and geographical factors.

• biological factors

• ecological factors

• Social problems

• degeneration of Values

Social disorganisation has been and is always present in every society. Society is in equilibrium as long as its parts are properly adjusted and fulfilled .Social Disorganisation breaks down the normal functioning of the parts and disturbances leading to some other kind of problems . Disorganisation leads to functional imbalance between various elements of social structure.

The remedies of social disorganisation can be taken after understanding the true nature of that particular  social control caused due to disorganisation.

SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT

Sense of entitlement is a personality trait in which an individual believes that they deserve recognition or special treatment for something they didn’t earn. Its basically “YOU OWE ME” kind of attitude. They believe that the world owes them without giving anything in return.

Sense of entitlement is not always negative. But as quoted “Too much of anything is good for nothing” and it can affect a person both physically and mentally.

FACTORS:

Thought it is not exactly known how this mentality develops within a person, but the main reason can be due to social factors like The environment the person grew up in. The way parents and society treated the individual. How the person is been treated and The way the individual is been taught. All these can affect ones personal as well as professional life.

IMPACTS

Entitled people will be able to put up a nice and well mannered mask on the outside, but according to research deep down this is not how they feel about themselves or other individuals around them. Research also suggest that entitled people can also be dangerous at times. They assume themselves as superior and also take any challenges with anger and defensiveness. These create a vicious cycle, the more they are challenged by society’s limitations the more they become angry.

CYCLE OF ENTITLEMENT:

It follows a vicious 3-step cycle: The particular individual is always vulnerable to the threat of unmet expectations.  And even if the expectations are met, it may lead them to dissatisfaction. When that individual is upset they try to console themselves which results in self-reassurance that they deserve everything they wanted which in turn reinforces to the same entitled behavior.

TIPS TO OVERCOME:

Regardless of caste, color, creed and social status, we are all humans. So treat every individual as you would like to be treated. Treat your failure as a learning tool instead of being upset about it and make sure not to repeat the same mistakes twice. Go easy on others. If this is practiced overtime, you can learn ways to address issues of entitlement and how to live a healthy, balanced life.

Indian classical music

Today I want to discuss a very interesting topic ,it is about ‘Indian classical Music’, which is India’s heritage and pride. Indian classical music is the classical music of Indian subcontinent. it is basically divided into 2 parts ,in north India it is called as Hindustani music while in south India , it is called Carnatic music.

Indian classical music has 2 components Raga and Tala. raga is based on ‘Swara‘ while the tala is based on time cycles. Indian classical music has been adopted historically with many regional styles and places. Indian classical music is considered to be 6000 years ago where people developed a combination of musical notes with rhythm. Indian classical music is very closely connected to nature, beauty and surroundings. There are different – different ragas for different moods and seasons.for example , there is a raga called ‘Malhar’,which is said to be sung during rainy season.

Hindustani music

it is believed that Indian subcontinent music was integrated until political turmoil of Delhi sultanates era came, than it was divided into 2 parts 1. Hindustani music 2. Carnatic music.

it is believed that Hindustani music was started in 14th century. it was at its peak during Akbar period, during that time Tansen studied Hindustani music and made many innovations in it. he is also considered as founder of Hindustani music. Hindustani music is mainly found in North India, Pakistan and Afghanistan . It has different forms like khyal, tarana thumri etc. There is a huge list of Ragas in Hindustani music.

Carnatic music

Puranadara Dasa is considered as grandfather of Carnatic music. He was a devotee of lord Krishna. Due to his efforts, Carnatic music was introduced.it is said that Carnatic music is more rhythmically intensive and structured than Hindustani music. Carnatic music are little bit fast and shorter than Hindustani music.

What makes Indian classical music different from other music

in this we will discuss that how classical music is different from other forms of music like Bollywood Music. It is all about history ,its context and purpose. classical music is studied and developed in a very disciplined way .and it is more professional and difficult to learn.it is also considered as a type of meditation.

nowadays very less people know about classical music, about its history ,origin and other things. We all are attracted by western Music because it has that an entertainment flavour in it. But classical music is not for entertainment or any other thing, it gives mental peace to the listener who understands its beauty. In fact in Bollywood music , classical music plays a huge role many songs that we like are sung with the help of ragas especially sad or romantic songs.

instruments used in classical music

There are many instruments that are used in classical music, some of them are:-

1.Sitar:-it is a very important instrument in Hindustani music. it is a plucked stringed instrument that was originated in 16th or 17th century in Indian subcontinent.

2.Tabla:-it is a pair of drums used in indian classical music. it is used in Indian subcontinent .

3.Mridangam:- this instrument is used in Carnatic music. it is called Pakhawaj in Dhrupad.

PM Modi gave India a defence policy

In the context of the recent drone attack at Jammu airbase, Amit Shah said that the DRDO and other agencies are coming up with countermeasures.

Union home minister Amit Shah said on Saturday no one can challenge India’s borders and its sovereignty after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s crafted a separate defence policy for India. “There was no separate defence policy before Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014. Either it was the foreign policy that dictated the defence policy or the foreign policy overlapped with the defence policy. Today, due to this initiative no one can challenge Indian borders and sovereignty,” Amit Shah said.

In the context of the recent drone attack at Jammu airbase, Amit Shah said that the DRDO and other agencies are coming up with countermeasures. “We have to prepare for use of artificial intelligence and robotics by Pakistan based terror groups. This goes beyond the use of drones for attacks from across the borders,” Shah added.
