Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Talking about a mental disorder is like speaking about sexuality. Not that the latter is less important but the fact that both the subjects are hardly acknowledged is dangerous.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a common disorder found amongst all age groups. Especially children and young adults. Most probably, half of the population having this disorder are not even aware of its existence and effects.

What is ADHD?

It is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The name itself reveals a lot about.

In children it is often quite visible. The symptoms range from doing too much activities, not being able to be still for a time span and lacking focus. With regard to this age group, the symptoms are clearly visible and may hamper the child’s education and causes many more distress in home and school. Many children outgrow ADHD but others may be effected in their adolescence and adulthood.
In such scenarios, the teachers and the school should look after the learning impairment by introducing the child new teaching techniques, learning skills and modified curriculum

In teens the Symptoms may get worse due to the hormonal changes of adolescence and the sudden increase of academic pressure on them
Symptoms include forgetting dates of assignments, may interrupt their classmates and teachers, rush in assignments. The teens may often do a number of tasks while forgetting the primary tasks to be completed. Their lack of focus extends to peer relationships. This may lead to the teen securing bad grades in the school.

ADHD in adults is common. However, many adults are unaware about it. Anxiety and panic attacks have become so common in the generation that differentiating them from ADHD,especially in absence of knowledge about mental health, is too long a process for the face paced world. .
A comprehensive evaluation including review of their past and present symptoms, medical history and examination. Medications and psychotherapy is given to adults diagnosed with ADHD. Behaviour management strategies involving minimization of disruption and increase structure and organization and involving family members can be helpful

The Three Types Of ADHD

ADHD, predominantly impulsive/hyperactive: The most least common type of ADHD. Symptoms include: Not being able to sit still, talking too much, always on the go as if driven by a motor, has difficulty waiting for his or her turn, Interrupts conversation

Inattentive Type: Doesn’t pay close attention to details and makes careless mistakes in schools or workplace, does not seem to listen when spoken to (lost in some other thoughts),lacks focus, has problem organizing tasks, avoids and dislikes tasks requiring mental efforts, looses things of daily use

ADHD Combined Type: The most common type of ADHD which is a combination of the above two types.

What Causes ADHD

ADHD is mostly hereditary. However, premature birth and the consumption of alcohol and cigarettes during pregnancy can also lead to ADHD developing in the child.

Can ADHD Be Cured?

ADHD has no permanent cure. However,it can be managed through a number of medications and therapies. In many cases medications alone is an effective treatment. However, in other cases therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, support groups, anger management and counselling psychology are effective.

THE THEORY BEHIND HUMAN ATTENTION

PROLOGUE

Attention alludes to the capacity to effectively deal with data in the climate. In fact, attention is restricted as far as both limit and time span. In such a case, it becomes essential to have approaches to use our attention adequately. As per the renowned book “The Standards of Brain research,” composed by therapist and savant William James, consideration is the ingestion limit of the psyche in clear and striking structure. It likewise infers stopping from different attentions to manage different things.

WHAT IS HUMAN ATTENTION?

We might consider attention a highlighter. In the event that we read a segment of text in a book, the featured region unmistakably sticks out. Consequently, we center our advantage around that part. Attention is anything but something shallow; it is much significantly established. It’s not restricted to focusing on a specific thing. All things considered, it is tied in with overlooking a lot of data and boost that continually rivals that particular thing. Attention requires an individual to stop pondering information and insights that are not applicable at that specific second. It requires the individual to zero in his whole energy just on the crucial data.

MEANING OF ATTENTION IN LEARNING

Attention is a central part that is available in an individual even upon entering the world. The situating reflexes assist us with recognizing which occasions in the environmental factors need attention and which should be overlooked. Infants concentrate on ecological improvements like uproarious clamors. A touch on the child’s cheek triggers his establishing reflex. This makes him turn his head to the individual who contacted him.

Attention assumes a pivotal part in each part of life, including school, work, and even connections. It empowers individuals to zero in on significant data and make recollections as a primary concern. It likewise permits individuals to disregard diverting things so they can think and do explicit jobs. We have various bits of examination as to precisely the number of things and for how long we can focus. The key factors that impact human consideration are our advantage in the thing on which we need to focus and the quantity of interruptions.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF ATTENTION?

There are various types of Attention:

Supported Attention

This sort of Attention is additionally called fixation. It is the capacity to zero in on something specific for a consistent period. During this time, individuals center around the errand until the undertaking is finished or a particular span of time has elapsed. Different examination proposes that supported Attention is at top during the mid 40s and step by step decays.

Exchanging Attention

This kind of Attention includes performing multiple tasks or consistently moving Attention starting with one thing then onto the next. It doesn’t mean zeroing in on more than one thing simultaneously. All things considered, it is tied in with focusing on a certain something, halting, and changing to the following thing.

Particular Attention

Attention is a restricted asset. Subsequently, we must be particular about what we choose to focus on and just disregard. We need to concentrate on a particular thing and disregard a huge number of different things. Particular Attention affects an individual’s capacity to pick and specifically focus on specific boosts in the climate and blocking other unimportant things out. This sort of Attention requires an individual to have the option to disregard outside outer boosts as well as interior interruptions. These interruptions might be as Attentions and feelings.

Centered Attention

This kind of Attention affects an individual’s capacity to quickly react to explicit visual or material upgrades like a boisterous commotion or a glimmer of light. It incorporates a quick reaction to outside boosts. It is especially huge in conditions where something in the climate requires brief Attention and activity.

Restricted Attention

Restricted attention or separated attention includes performing multiple tasks. Be that as it may, attention is partitioned for this situation between various undertakings. Rather than moving center, individuals focus on these improvements all the while and react to different requests at the same time. Individuals have a major misinterpretation that attention is limitless. Thus, many individuals work on performing various tasks.

HOW CAN WE USE OUR ATTENTION EFFECTIVELY?

Essentially, our capacity to focus on a certain something and tune out contending interruptions is programmed. However this capacity is extremely mind boggling. Curiously, even individuals without attention issues can profit with these systems. These procedures are intended to further develop attention. A portion of these include:

• Say no to performing multiple tasks

Assuming we need to further develop our attention then we should keep away from performing multiple tasks. Shuffling between different undertakings harms efficiency. Thus, we can benefit as much as possible from our restricted attention by working just on each thing in turn.

• Getting adequate rest

A few bits of examination have shown that satisfactory rest is basic to keep up with ideal degrees of attention. Moreover, there exists a bidirectional connection among rest and attention. This is on the grounds that rest directs attention, and interest for attention assumes a fundamental part in rest.

• Practice care:

Care includes giving total attention to the current second. In some cases, it is likewise seen as a kind of attention itself. A few bits of exploration have shown that care preparing can be extremely useful in further developing Attention.

THE FINAL THOUGHT

Individuals are attempting to discover new techniques for further developing Attention. This will assist with regarding Attention issues too. For example, as per the exploration distributed in 2017, the neural hardware that is the mind’s way identified with Attention is additionally firmly identified with conditions like Attention deficiency or hyperactivity issue. Improving comprehension of this cycle will assist with discovering better medicines for those experiencing this condition.

Increase Your Productivity Using This Simple Step To Focus…!!!!

Hello everybody,  People, let’s first try to understand why are we so bad at instructing ourselves. Why is it that we are not able to manage our time ? Why is it that we are not able to focus ? And the answer to this question lies in our conditioning that has happened. since childhood You will see that since childhood there has always been an external entity which has been telling you what to do and when to do. For the first 18 years of your life you’ve got your school that gives you a timetable and tells you that from 9AM to 10AM you’re supposed to learn Hindi from 10 to 11 your are supposed to learn English and so on and so forth.

And the same thing happens in college also when the college gives you a timetable and tells you that tells you that you’re supposed to have 75% attendance. And then when you get employed there is a boss who is going to keep an eye on you, the company tells you that you’re supposed to be there from 9 to 5. And then you’ve got those annoying peers who often keep an eye on you as to how many breaks you are taking. So if you see, there has always been an external entity that has been telling you when to do and what to do. As a result of this, we have lost our ability or our ability to self-govern ourselves has degraded to such a large extent that the next time you command your brain to do something the first response that you get is “NO” (laughs) .

So, practically speaking, your mind has become this notorious monkey which requires an external entity to tell it what to do and when to do. So, here’s a simple 5 step procedure which will help you to condition your mind to focus on something. Now the disclaimer over here is that this step by step procedure is very easy to understand but very difficult to execute. So, do not expect this to be like an easy ride for you to improve your focus and and for you to have this ultimate level of concentration that you wish to have. So, here’s step number one People,

the first thing that you are supposed to do is make sure that you have one particular time slot and you reserve this one particular time slot for whatever activity that you want to do. This could be your homework This could be your project work, this could be anything. But fixing this time slot is very important and once you have, let’s say, fixed 9 AM to 11 AM what you are supposed to do is you’re supposed to make sure that you clear out every single possible distraction. For example, if you want to have breakfast, do make sure to schedule the breakfast before 9AM so that between that time, that is, from 9 AM to 11 AM you don’t have to get up for breakfast.

Make sure that you do all the calls that you need, make sure you send all the PDFs to your friends or whatever you want to send. After doing all that work you shouldn’t have any work left between 9AM to 11AM except for that activity. The second step would be to get everything that you need at that desk wherein you’re supposed to work so that you don’t have to get up. Now, this includes everything starting from a sharpened pencil to your bottle of water. If you drink a lot of water then get 2 bottles and make sure that you have everything that you needed so that you don’t have to get up during that time slot.

Step 3 is the most obvious step of all and that would be to put your phone on DnD and keep it away. And then we move on to step 4 and this is by far the most difficult step of all and here’s where no matter what happens, I repeat, no matter what happens you are supposed to be at your desk from 9 AM to 11 AM for 22 days straight, alright ? And here’s where, for the first 10 days your productivity will be ultra low okay ? It doesn’t matter. You are supposed to be at your desk, you’re supposed to be sitting at your chair. And the moment you do this, your battle with the monkey mind begins and here’s where all kinds of thoughts will start coming into play. Bro, what is the purpose of life ? Is Kunal Kamra right or Modi Ji right ? Why didn’t Seema reply ? I think I’m alone.

What is the purpose of this Indian education system yaar ? Hmm.. these scientists are saying that the world will be doomed by 2030 then what’s the point of me studying all this ? And when this happens, just let your thoughts flow and you know what people ?this reminds me of what one This is what reminds me of what Blaise Pascal once said He said, “Most of the humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room, alone. And this experience of yours is the standing example of the same. Over the course of time, in about 5 to 10 days automatically, you will be able to make peace with your thoughts. And you will see that slowly and steadily your efficiency is increasing. Eventually, by the 22nd day, I can bet you that you would have reached at least 50% efficiency as in, if you sit down for 2 hours you will be able to focus on your work for at least one hour.

And after you’re done with all of this, what you are supposed to do is maintain a progress sheet and over there you are supposed to write how much work you have done on each day until the 22nd day and if possible, follow it all throughout. Once you start doing this you’ll notice that you’re making progress, your efficiency is increasing and that will give you motivation to keep going. And once you follow this technique for about 22 days, you will see that by the end of 22nd day you have cultivated a powerful habit, you have discplined yourself to sit from 9 AM to 11 AM. Automatically, your focus will improve, your concentration will improve for those 2 hours and once you keep doing this for many many things in life, automatically you will begin see that you are making some amazing progress.

Now, people, here’s where I want to tell you something very very important. I am not teaching you this technique so that you can study better I know that you are going to study well anyways because your teachers are going to kick your a**, your parents are going to kick your a**. But the reason why I want you to practice this technique for something as lame as studies is because this technique will teach you 3 very important life lessons that will help you achieve greatness in life.

The first lesson that this technique is going to teach you is to live with your thoughts. And trust me, in this world of hustle and bustle because we don’t spend enough time with ourself we always live in a state of misery and the worst part is more often than not we never realize it.

The second life skill that this technique will teach you is the art of self-governance. You will learn how do you exactly take control of your temptations, you will learn how to take control over your distractions. And once you start doing this in small things in life, automatically, you will begin to prepare yourself for much bigger and much more difficult battles in life.

And third and most importantly this technique will also teach you that greatness takes time. At day zero, you will suck. Regardless of whatever you do, if you want to be great at it, you have to first learn to suck. And in this big bad world wherein we get everything with a click of a button it is very important for our generation to understand that greatness takes time. And once you learn this, I am 100% sure. that you will be on your way to achieve greatness.

Why economy of India is slowing down???

India is one among the world’s fasting growing economies. It had been touted as an economic and geopolitical counterweight to China. But recently its growth fell to its slowest pace in six years. Investment has weakened, and unemployment has risen. So what’s causing the slowdown, and how can it be reversed? Since the turn of the century, India’s economy has grown at a rapid rate, helping transform the country. Between 2006 and 2016, rising incomes lifted 271 million people out of poverty, meaning the proportion of Indians still living in poverty has fallen dramatically, from around 55% to twenty-eight . Access to electricity has also improved. In 2007 just 70% of the population had access to power. By 2017, that grew to nearly 93%.

India's economic growth likely to remain subdued in near future ...
More recently, the Indian government constructed around 110 million toilets — a huge step towards better sanitation designed to prevent the practice of open defecation. It’s a signature program of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, known as Swachh Bharat, or Clean India. All this development has been supported by a booming economy, but as lately , that expansion has begun to run out of steam. In the third quarter of 2019, India’s economic output grew by 4.5% – making it the primary time the country’s growth dipped below 5% since 2013. For context, 4.5% growth remains much above that of developed economies just like the U.S., But with 12 million Indians entering the workforce per annum , economists say the country needs annual growth rates to remain above nine percent to make sure there are enough jobs. So, what’s causing this recent slowdown? Well, officialdom argue turbulence in international financial markets is guilty.

Economy News, Latest economy news India, Indian Economy features ...
Political uncertainty and U.S.-China trade tensions mean confidence levels among investors and consumers everywhere have sunk. The United Nations has even warned that a global recession in 2020 is now a “clear and present danger”. But back to India – many economists say the country’s growth problems are literally self-inflicted. One obvious culprit is the shadow banking sector. During the 2000s, India saw an investment boom. It was fuelled by state banks dispensing a load of loans for giant infrastructure projects. But some of the companies taking advantage of these loans couldn’t keep up with the repayments. That meant the state banks weren’t getting paid back and therefore struggled to give out new loans. To keep business moving, shadow banks stepped in. These financial institutions, which operate like ordinary commercial banks but don’t follow traditional banking rules, eventually made up an estimated third of all new loans nationwide. The loans played a pivotal role for the millions of small businesses and consumers who would otherwise have no access to credit. But in 2018, shadow banking giant Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services, defaulted on its debt repayments. Its collapse sent shockwaves through the economy and shook up more traditional banks that had supported the world.
It became harder for people to shop for expensive items like cars. That hurt India’s automotive industry, which is one among the country’s biggest. It employs about 35 million people and makes up about 7% of India’s GDP. Last summer, the industry suffered its worst sales performance in nearly 19 years, and reports suggest tens of thousands of workers are laid off. The agriculture and construction sectors have also been hurting, with small and medium businesses being hit the hardest. The country’s percentage has been on an overall upward trend since July 2017, rising several percentage points to 7.7%. Higher unemployment means consumers are buying less, resulting in the unfortunate cycle of slower manufacturing, production, investment and job creation.

Indian Economy Will Face Adverse Affects Of Coronavirus Gdp To ...
A survey from the Reserve Bank of India found consumer confidence has fallen to its lowest level in five years. But Indians still have a positive outlook for the longer term , with most consumers expecting to feel more optimistic during a year. However, if things don’t improve, debt could become another issue. Expecting better days ahead, many households have continued to spend, by taking out loans and dipping into savings. Household savings as a proportion of GDP has fallen from 23.6% to 17.2%. Meanwhile, household debt has surged to 10.9% during the same period. Critics say the govt in New Delhi has did not spot these risks and hasn’t done enough to urge the economy moving again. The Reserve Bank of India’s former governor Raghuram Rajan recently blamed the lack of significant reforms and a slowdown in investments since the global financial crisis. Even the country’s chief economic advisor recently admitted reforms are needed to form India more friendly to investors.
India has cut its corporate rate , but labor and land laws are still extremely strict. He also says the country must become pro-market, instead of just pro-business, to avoid costly government bailouts of failing sectors. But not all reforms have been good to the economy. In 2016, Prime Minister Modi tried to crack down on corruption, counterfeits and evasion by banning high value bank notes. In one night, the cash ban made 86% of all cash invalid. Three years later, many analysts say the policy disrupted the economy and did not achieve many of its original goals. In 2017, a replacement nuisance tax placed small businesses struggling and a few of them were forced to shut . In mid-2019, India’s government introduced a controversial new tax on foreign investors. Consequently, India’s stock exchange suffered its worst July performance in 17 years. Just one month later, the measure was scrapped.
The government has now refocused its efforts on international trade and investment, and thus the recent changes to the corporate rate could indeed help attract businesses and investors to India. But if the country wants to be a part of the world’s largest supply chains, it’ll need low and consistent tariff levels to encourage outsiders to take a position for the long term.

The country’s shifting export policy has harmed several of its largest industries, particularly clothing. India’s share of the worldwide apparel market has increased only slightly within the past 20 years. And though the Indian workforce is vast, both Bangladesh and Vietnam now export more. On top of that, the country’s import tariffs on the average are much above the world’s biggest economies. They’re also among the highest of the world’s emerging economies. Even U.S. President Donald Trump has called for the country to bring down its duties.

Has India’s growth actually slowed the maximum amount as we think? The government’s former chief economic advisor Arvind Subramanian caused a good little bit of controversy in June 2019, when he claimed the country’s official stats probably overstated GDP growth by 2.5% from 2011-2012 to 2016-2017. He says the bottom line is that India never recovered from the global financial crisis. The government denies this. But none of this has hurt Prime Minister Modi at the polls – he won by a landslide in the most recent election. So how will he keep his promise and double the dimensions of the economy by 2025? Many economists insist a well-explained economic vision would help. As would more long-term investment, better skilled workers and enhancements to infrastructure. It may not matter who or what’s responsible for India’s recent economic challenges, but bottom line – India’s economic process must recover , and fast.

Why Australia is least affected by recession!!!

America’s economy is approaching a big milestone. If it keeps humming until July 2019, it’ll be the longest expansion in U.S. history. It would be exactly one decade and one month old by then. But there’s another country with an even more impressive run It’s even called the ‘lucky country’ Three big lessons from Australia.

  1. Be smart.
  2. Be organized.
  3. Be lucky.

So, if I’ve got any advice for other countries, it’s try and be as lucky as Australia That luck has to do with Australia’s treasure trove of natural resources. You know Australia is on the other side of the world and sitting on tremendously valuable minerals right at the point where the Chinese economy is just around the corner and exploding. Australia and every one its natural resources were within the right geographic neighborhood even as the Chinese economy began to begin . And it just so happens that China did a big fiscal stimulus in 2008 and spent a great deal of money building new cities. So all of these resources were drawn from places like Australia. So that also served as a huge tailwind at a time when developed markets were in a whole lot of trouble.

What Currency Is Used In Australia | Australian Dollar : Compare ...

The year 2008 was a time of economic turmoil The Global Financial Crisis hit and markets crumbled around the world. But as it turns out this was also a year for Australia’s economic management to really show off At the time the government had a very helpful and very low level of debt. One reason? Pension reform in the 1990s. Australia set up a compulsory retirement system called the superannuation system. It requires employers put money into its employees’ retirement savings.

Since companies and citizens have to build up retirement savings, some of the financial burden to pay off pensions was taken off of Australia’s government As other economies reeled in the wake of the 2008 crisis, the Australian Government was then able to put money directly into people’s bank accounts This boosted consumer spending in order to stimulate growth In 2008, the Australian Government unlike some other developed market governments actually jumped in very quickly with fiscal stimulus, so that helped to kind of minimize the effect of the crisis The country’s numbers continued to look sluggish after the financial crisis. But they never quite dipped low enough or for long enough to satisfy the definition of a recession. It takes two quarters of negative growth to fall into a recession. Australia’s economy did post a couple of negative quarters since 2008, but no country’s perfect. Overall Australia’s economy has been managed pretty much in recent years partly due to a robust and stable financial institution.

Reserve Bank of Australia – Australia's LGBTQ Inclusive Employers

Australia has an independent financial institution and it is a very well-run financial institution . It also has a floating exchange rate and the exchange rate helped it adjust to international shocks. Australia’s economic reforms gave it flexibility in times of hardship. For example, floating the Australian dollar In 1983, Australia’s government moved the dollar onto a floating exchange rate This meant that the dollar would be valued by supply and demand instead of being subject to influence from its government or its central bank It allows the economy to react to shocks as well Typically when an economy is hit by some sort of negative shock. The currency will adjust. It will depreciate and that helps promote exports. Another reason behind Australia’s economic diary lies in its immigration policy. Since the late 1990s, Australia has seen growth in temporary migration, many arriving to the country on student or temporary work visas. The number of temporary migrants peaked in the year 2000. However a recent change to immigration law in 2018 gave visa applicants more hurdles to get through if they wanted to come to the country Even when our GDP per capital average incomes aren’t rising by much because the number of people continues to rise that means the total GDP continues to rise at even more rapid pace Part of that’s underpinned by much faster population growth Most experts think Australia’s economy remains strong in 2019, but it’s not without risks.

Australia’s suffering at the instant from pretty weak wage growth. That’s worrying a lot of people. There’s a lot of fear right now that China is hitting a wall. That will hit demand for Australian products. The good news is to the extent that the Chinese are buying commodities hopefully will find buyers from overseas for many of those commodities if the Chinese are not there The bad news is the rest of the world economy is not doing that well.

Australian economic growth slows, enters per capita recession ...

TIME MANAGEMENT AND TIPS TO INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY

It is easy to urge swayed by the plethora of activities which occur in college. Amidst all this it’s crucial to stay track of the tutorial workload or it’s commonplace to urge caught up by the pressure during the last months of the semester. Check out these tips for effective time management.
1. Write down everythingWith everything going digital, we frequently forget to truly write things down. Be it assignment deadlines or extra classes, writing down saves us from the last moment panic. Keep a separate notebook to write down down everything important. This helps in proper planning and completing the tasks.
2. Cellphone as an efficient toolIt is easy to get lost in the world of endless scrolling in the social networking apps. But with self regulation we can use our mobile phone as our best tool. Keep a copy of the class notes and books in the digital form. This helps in revising things even when books aren’t around.
3. Maintain your healthDo not take your health for granted. Having irregular sleeping habits, improper diets, excessive alcohol and drug usage deteriorate the body slowly. Without proper health, it’s impossible to cope up with college academics, extra-curriculars. Thus your health should be your first priority.
4. Be organizedKeep your things during a way such you are doing not need to spend hours just checking out them. Having books, notebooks, assignment copies in proper places saves tons of your time and helps in completing task faster.
Even for the digital copies, arrange them in proper directories. It is also important to stay only the required items and take away the rubbish .
5. Prioritize your tasksYou should have a clear idea of what to do when. Prioritize your activities. This helps in increasing your overall efficiency. It is okay not to do all those things which others are doing. Focus on your goals and work on reaching them.

Time management is probably the foremost crucial element of productivity and it’s also what we get wrong most of the time. Either we get too aggressive about managing time that we stress ourselves beyond the limit or we abate such a lot that each one the work gets accumulated for the last hour. Try to follow the tips below

1 . Say no to micro and macro managementDo not think too ahead when managing time. In that way all what happens is building castles within the air until all of them break down. Also don’t think too rigorously i.e by every half an hour for what you’ve got to try to to . Set an achievable target consistent with your potential and check out to realize it within the deadline set.
2. Write down the tasksYou can use simple note taking apps like Google Keep to notice down your goals. You can also use a Whatsapp group (where you’re the only member) to stay a note of the essential things. Writing down a task prevents you from forgetting it and acts as a push to finish it.
3. Year, month, week, dayBreak your goal into the months needed to finish it. Then further reduce it into rough plans for weeks. From here you can set your daily targets and work on them. Before getting to sleep, have your targets ready for subsequent day. It will take considerable effort to stick within the first few days but once you begin you’ll adapt to the target.
4. Rewards and buffer timeMicro-rewards for completing every task gives you another reason to end it. It can be anything from eating your favourite ice cream to watch that long awaited movie. Think that you simply wouldn’t roll in the hay until you finish your goal. Apart from this, keep some buffer time within the routine. It adds flexibility to the schedule and may be helpful if you miss the target thanks to some reason. Read this text on additional tips to enhance yourself on a daily basis.
5. Prioritization and Cutoff tasksPrioritise your tasks. Make sure you are doing the foremost important tasks first. People often fall under a trap of finishing the better tasks first, thinking that they had a productive time. But that is only fooling yourself. You know automatically which would be the most challenging task. So confirm that’s finished first at any cost. Manage your tasks well. Apart from this, set a cutoff for every task. This means that albeit the whole task isn’t finished, confirm to end an honest amount of it.

6. Stay clear of toxic activitiesDo not engage in activities that are toxic and unnecessary. They do not increase your growth in any manner and are nothing but wastage of your energy and time. Stay beyond all such things which prevent you from completing your tasks and reduce the general productivity.

The Scientific Argument for Mastering One Thing at a Time

Many people, myself included, have multiple areas of life they would like to improve. For example, I would like to reach more people with my writing, to lift heavier weights at the gym, and to start practicing mindfulness more consistently. Those are just a few of the goals I find desirable and you probably have a long list yourself.

The problem is, even if we are committed to working hard on our goals, our natural tendency is to revert back to our old habits at some point. Making a permanent lifestyle change is really difficult.

Too Many Good Intentions

If you want to master multiple habits and stick to them for good, then you need to figure out how to be consistent. How can you do that?

This finding is well proven and has been repeated in hundreds studies across a broad range of areas. For example, implementation intentions have been found to increase the odds that people will start exercising, begin recycling, stick with studying, and even stop smoking.

However (and this is crucial to understand) follow-up research has discovered implementation intentions only work when you focus on one thing at a time. In fact, researchers found that people who tried to accomplish multiple goals were less committed and less likely to succeed than those who focused on a single goal.

What Happens When You Focus on One Thing

Here is another science-based reason to focus on one thing at a time:

When you begin practicing a new habit it requires a lot of conscious effort to remember to do it. After awhile, however, the pattern of behavior becomes easier. Eventually, your new habit becomes a normal routine and the process is more or less mindless and automatic.

Researchers have a fancy term for this process called “automaticity.” Automaticity is the ability to perform a behavior without thinking about each step, which allows the pattern to become automatic and habitual.

The most important thing to note is that there is some “tipping point” at which new habits become more or less automatic. The time it takes to build a habit depends on many factors including how difficult the habit is, what your environment is like, your genetics, and more.

Change Your Life Without Changing Your Entire Life

Alright, let’s review what I have suggested to you so far and figure out some practical takeaways.

  1. You are 2x to 3x more likely to follow through with a habit if you make a specific plan for when, where, and how you are going to implement it. This is known as an implementation intention.
  2. You should focus entirely on one thing. Research has found that implementation intentions do not work if you try to improve multiple habits at the same time.
  3. Research has shown that any given habit becomes more automatic with more practice. On average, it takes at least two months for new habits to become automatic behaviors.

The counterintuitive insight from all of this research is that the best way to change your entire life is by not changing your entire life. Instead, it is best to focus on one specific habit, work on it until you master it, and make it an automatic part of your daily life. Then, repeat the process for the next habit.

The way to master more things in the long-run is to simply focus on one thing right now.
