Cyberbullying: A Brutal Reality

See the source image

These days people are totally dependent on the internet. The Internet became a necessity in human lives, the more people are using the internet the more it is developing. And the more it is developing the more it is creating an impact in the society. Communicating with people became so easy. But everything has its own drawbacks and so does the internet, Cyberbullying being one of them. Cyber Bullying is nothing but bullying someone on online platforms such as Facebook, What’s-app, Instagram, tweeter etc. But it is said to be bullied only when something negative is shared about someone and that can cause a huge harm to their reputation. Cyber bullying is so dangerous because it gives the ability to harass anyone in public at any time through devices and mostly students are the victims of these kinds of harassment.

Effects of cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is a very serious issue affecting not just the young victims, but also the victims’ families, the bully, and those who witness instances of cyberbullying. However, the effect of cyberbullying can be most detrimental to the victim, of course, as they may experience a number of emotional issues that affect their social and academic performance as well as their overall mental health. When bullying happens online it can feel as if you’re being attacked everywhere, even inside your own home. It can seem like there’s no escape. The effects of cyberbullying also include mental health issues, increased stress and anxiety, depression, acting out violently, and low self-esteem. Cyberbullying can also result in long-lasting emotional effects, even if the bullying has stopped. The effects can last a long time and affect a person in many ways like feeling ashamed or losing interest in the things you love, tired ,experiencing symptoms like headaches. The feeling of being laughed at or harassed by others, can prevent people from speaking up or trying to deal with the problem. In extreme cases, cyberbullying can even lead to people taking their own lives. Cyberbullying can affect us in many ways. But these can be overcome and people can regain their confidence and health.

How to put an end to cyberbullying

If you experience cyberbullying, you may want to delete certain apps or stay offline for a while to give yourself time to recover. But getting off the Internet is not a long-term solution. You did nothing wrong, so why should you be disadvantaged. We all want cyberbullying to stop, which is one of the reasons reporting cyberbullying is so important. But creating the Internet we want goes beyond calling out bullying. We need to be thoughtful about what we share or say that may hurt others. We need to be kind to one another online and in real life. It’s up to all of us!

It is important for us to understand that it can be a very small step to go from what is intended to be a harmless joke to a full-blown cyberbullying campaign. The lack of face-to-face interaction and the feeling of power one gains from sitting behind a computer screen can turn what might normally be a traditional case of schoolyard teasing into a steady onslaught of harassment, shaming, and threats of bodily harm.

“Bullying is a horrible thing. It sticks with you forever. It poisons you. But only if you let it.”

Choose only one master – nature

Nature is an important and integral part of mankind. It is one of the greatest blessings for human life; however. Nowadays humans fail to recognize it as one. Nature has been an inspiration for numerous poets, writers, artists and more of yesteryears. This remarkable creation inspires them to write poems and stories in the glory of it. Therefore, people of the modern age should also learn something from people of yesterday and start valuing nature before it gets too late.

Significance of nature

* Nature has been in existing long before humans and ever since it has taken care of mankind and nourished it forever.

* Survival of mankind without nature us impossible and humans need to understand that.

* If nature has the ability to protect us, it is also powerful enough to destroy the entire mankind.

* Every form of nature, for instance the plants, animals, rivers, mountains and more holds equal significance for us.

* Absence of one element is enough to enough to cause a catastrophe in the functioning of human life.

Conservation of nature

* In order to conserve nature, we must take drastic steps right away to prevent any further damage.

* The most important step is to prevent deforestation at all levels. Cutting down of trees has serious consequences in different spheres.

* It can cause soil erosion easily and also bring a decline in rainfall on a major level.

* In conclusion, nature has a powerful transformative power which is responsible for the functioning of life on earth.

* It is essential for mankind to flourish so it is our duty to conserve it for our future generations.

* We must stop the selfish activities and try our best to preserve the natural resources so life can forever be nourished on earth.

Classification of Law in Jurisprudence

International Law and Municipal Law

Law maybbe broadly divided into two classes: international law and municipal law. Whatever the objections raised against the claim of international law to be called international law, it is now recognised that international law is not only law but also a very important branch of law.

International law is divided into two classes: public international law and private international law. public international law is that body of rules which governs the conduct and relations of the States with each other. by private international law we mean those rules and principles according to which cases having foreign element are decided. if a contract is made between an Indian and a Pakistani which is to be performed in Sri Lanka, the rules and principles on which the rights and liabilities of the parties depend are to be determined by private international law. Critics point out that the term private international law is not correct. The adjective “international” is wrongly given to it as it does not possess any characteristics of international law. Private international law applies to individuals and not to States. Moreover, the rules and principles of private international law vary from State to State and there is no uniformity. Private international law is enforced by municipal courts which apply municipal law and not international law. In order to avoid controversy, it is suggested that private international law be called Conflict of Laws and should be treated as a branch of municipal private law.

Municipal Law

Municipal law is the law applied within a State. It can be divide into two classes: public law and private law. Public law determines and regulates the organisation and functioning of the State and determines the relation of the State with its subjects.

Public law is divided ito three classes: constitutional law, administrative law and criminal law. Constitutional law determines the nature of the State and the structure of the government. It is superior to the ordinary law of the land. Constitutional law is written in India and the Unites States but it is unwritten in England. The modern tendency is to have written constitutons.

Administrative law deals with the structure, powers and functions of the organisation of administration, the limits of their powers, the methods and procedures followed by them and the methods by which their powers are controlled including the legal remedies available to persons whose rights have been infringed.

Criminal law defines offences and prescribes punishments for them. It not only orevent crimes but also punishes the offenders. Criminal law is necessary for the maintenance of law and order and peace within State. In criminal cases, it is the State which initiates proceedings against the wrongdoers. The State is always a party in criminal cases.

Private law regulates and governs the relations of citizens with one another. The parties are private individuals and the State decides the disputes among the people. There is great difficulty in classifying private law. A general classifiactionof private law is the law of persons, the law of property, the law of obligations, the conflict of laws, contaracts, quasi-contracts and tort.

Critics point out many defects in the above classification o laws. Many of the classes of laws do not exist in many legal systems of the world. Those branches f law which have recently been developed cannot be put under any classification. The result is that the classification given abone is neither universal nor exhaustive. Many jurists have attempted classifications on different principles. New branches of law are growing and developing rapidly in different parts of the world and provision has to be made for them in any classification of laws. Industrial law and commercial law are such subjects.

The Covid-19 vaccination has been expanded to include all citizens above 18 years of age, making more than 69 per cent of the population eligible, of which nearly half 48 per cent are women. Recent studies have shown that pregnant women who get infected with Covid-19 are more likely to require intensive care. Coronavirus infection during pregnancy can result in rapid deterioration of health and affect the fetus also. The health ministry released a fact sheet and detailed information for Medical Officers for counselling pregnant women. All pregnant women need to register themselves on the Co-WIN portal or may get themselves registered on-site at the Covid-19 vaccination center. The process of registration for pregnant women remains the same as of the general population and as per the latest guidance provided by Health Ministry from time to time.

World Population Day

World Population Day is observed on 11th of July every year. It is an annual and global event which seeks to raise awareness about the rising population issues all over the world. It was first observed on the 11th of July 1989. Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme was the organization behind the establishment of this event. A question might arise in your mind about why 11th July was established as the World Population Day and not any other date? The answer to this question lies in the year 1987 two years prior to the first observation of the World Population Day. 11 July 1987 is known as the Five Billion Day because it is considered as the approximate date when the world population reaches the mark of 5 billion.

The day was proposed by Dr. K.C. Zachariah who worked as a senior Demographer at World Bank when the world population reaches five billion. World Population Day aims to increase awareness on various issues regarding population such as family planning, gender equality, poverty, human rights, and maternal health.

World Population Trends

Due to the increase in number of people surviving to reproductive age, major changes in fertility rates, increasing urbanization and accelerated migration has resulted in a very dramatic drastic growth in the population all around the world. If look at the empirical data, it will be clearer. Earlier it took hundreds of thousands of years to reach the world population to the 1 billion mark but in the near 200 years or so the population increases by seven times. Global population reaches to 7 billion mark in the year 2011. Today global population stands around 7.7 billion and it is estimated to reach 8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050, and 10.9 billion in 2 100. These trends as shown here if continues then it will have very far-reaching negative consequences on the future generation to come. They affect economic development, increase unemployment, poverty, increase income disparity and affect income distribution. Growing population also acts as a setback to the efforts of providing universal access to healthcare facilities, sanitation, education, better lifestyle, housing, energy, food and water.

Themes of this year’s World Population Day

“Rights and choices are the answer: Whether baby boom or bust, the solution to shifting fertility rates lies in prioritizing the reproductive health and rights of all people.” This is the theme of World Population Day this year. The pandemic had made the health system to compromised with other problems especially in the area of sexual and reproductive health of women. Risk of child marriage and female genital mutilation increase in the pandemic and the programmes to eradicate these problems faced a setback due to the pandemic. A quantitative surveys suggest that between 4% – 29% of women who use contraception do so without their husbands’ or partners’ knowledge. Against this backdrop, many countries are expressing growing concern over changing fertility rates. Historically, alarmism over fertility rates has led to abrogation of human rights. The agency emphasizes that women must be empowered educationally, economically and politically to exercise choice over their bodies and fertility.

2. Place your fork and knife diagonally across the plate, side by side, with the fork and knife pointing at 10:00 and 4:00 on a clock face, respectively. This indicates to the wait staff that you have completed your meal.

3. In most cases, the individual who begins the dinner pays and tips appropriately.

Ways to Make Your Daily Walk Feel More Like a Walking Workout. [PART 2]

[Bhoomika Saini]

1. Use elevation to your advantage.

Heading up hills naturally increases the intensity of your walk even if you’re moving at the same pace or slower. “A walking incline can be even harder than running. Declines also serve their purpose, activating your core and strengthening your mind-muscle connection as you focus on each step.

Those lucky enough to live near undulating trails or roads can simply plan their route accordingly. If you’re largely on flat land, find any suitable slope—even a sledding hill or a parking-lot ramp—and do four to five hill repeats, walking up purposefully and down intentionally.

2. Do an out-and-back where you can do some stair climbs at the halfway point.

One simple way to add extra intensity into your workout is to incorporate some stairs into your routine. A common way to do this is to map your route to include regular walking as a warm-up, then hitting a flight of stairs for some higher-intensity work, and then walking back home as a cooldown.

Someone who lives a mile or so away could plot a route to their base, then climb up and down a couple of times before briskly walking home again.

3. Mix in some bodyweight moves.

Even if there aren’t stairs in your vicinity, you can still break up a walk with a burst of calisthenics. If you have access to a track or a park with a looped path, try walking the curves and doing dynamic or bodyweight moves on the straightaways, for instance, walking lunges, walking planks, or single-leg hopping. No track? Try it by time—for instance, two minutes of walking, then one minute of strength moves.

If you’re near an open playground and don’t mind toting along hand sanitizer, you can do pull-ups or monkey bars. Prefer not to touch? Try toe taps on a curb, step-ups on park benches, or a split squat with one foot elevated on a ledge.

4. Walk to music with a quicker tempo

There’s a reason group fitness classes blast power pop—music not only boosts your mood, research shows it can actually make hard efforts feel easier. What’s more, it can also work as a kind of metronome guiding your pace.

Spotify has playlists for songs of various beats per minute for keeping the tempo up. Choose one that’s comfortably challenging—say, 130 to 140 BPM—and will last for the duration of time that you want to walk, and aim to keep up with it. (You can also try our SELF playlist of the best workout songs for some motivation, too.)

Or use music as a cue for more intense segments. Walk easy for verses and fast during the chorus. Bodyweight circuit at the start of every other tune: 10 squats, 10 split squats on each leg, 10 lateral lunges per leg, and 10 push-ups, either on the ground or with your hands on a bench to make it easier.

5. Or even twirl, prance, or twerk.

Sprinkling a few moves into your walk elevates your heart rate and gives you an opportunity to move in different directions—critical for those of us hunched at desks and over our devices all day. Some moves are air punches, grapevines, lateral shuffles, and strutting on the balls of your feet, which works your calves and quads.

Don’t let self-consciousness or a lack of dance training hold you back.

Let go of everything that’s in your head and don’t worry about what people think.”

6. Use technology to your advantage (or leave it behind).

This is another time when it’s important to consider the purpose of your walk. If it’s a mind-clearing, meditative stroll, it might be best to leave your GPS watch at home and your phone in do-not-disturb mode. But if you’re aiming for fitness benefits, you can use digital tools as motivators.

If you have a watch or fitness tracker with a step count, try to take a few more steps during each 30- or 60-minute walk.

Stress and anxiety can affect what’s known as your rate of perceived exertion, or how hard it feels like you’re working to power through each step.

“You need to listen to your body,” even if the message is to slow down or back off. “If you’re used to hitting a certain number or certain metric, don’t be disappointed. You should be more excited and proud that you did something as opposed to nothing.”

7. Close it out with a stretch session.

Taking a few minutes to further loosen warm, limber muscles after a walk can ease some of the strain and fatigue you’ve built up and also give your session a sense of closure. “Often we walk and get to our car or back to our house and that’s it,”.

“Stretching makes it complete.”

OLYMPICS 2020: Tokyo

See the source image

After a year’s delay, the Tokyo Summer Olympics appear set to proceed. The world’s best athletes will once again compete in the pool, on the track, around the velodrome and high above the trampoline. But the circumstances will be most unusual. The Summer Games, scheduled for Tokyo in July and August 2020, were delayed for a year because of the pandemic. The Games are currently scheduled to proceed July 23 to Aug. 8, 2021.  The International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo organizing committee are determined to hold the Games after years of planning. They are also eager to hang on to the billions of dollars in television money that they would lose if the Games were canceled. Organizers say postponing again is not possible.

STILL KNOWN AS OLYMPICS 2020: Despite coming a year late, the Games are still called Tokyo 2020. T-shirts, mugs, signage and other branded gear will all reflect that.

Japanese against Olympics

Around 80 percent of people in Japan think the Games should not go on this summer. It has been over a year since Japan proclaimed its first one-month state of emergency back in April 2020. There have been many outbreaks throughout this year as a direct result of the non-existent COVID-19 mitigation measures. For the entire year of the global pandemic, the Abe and Suga governments focused on downplaying the pandemic, doing everything in their power to ensure the Summer Tokyo Olympics will be held this year in July. This includes covering up the realities in the country’s hospitals. As a result , people of Japan are now protesting and demanding to stop Olympics this summer. On 10th July participants in the demonstration gathered in front of a five-star hotel in the capital, where the International Olympics Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach stays, chanting ‘no more Olympics’.

History

The Olympic Games are an international sports festival that began in ancient Greece. The original Greek games were staged every fourth year for several hundred years, until they were abolished in the early Christian era. The revival of the Olympic Games took place in 1896, and since then they have been staged every fourth year. The ancient Olympics were held every four years between August 6 and September 19 during a religious festival honoring Zeus. The Games were named for their location at Olympia, a sacred site located near the western coast of the Peloponnese peninsula in southern Greece. Their influence was so great that ancient historians began to measure time by the four-year increments in between Olympic Games, which were known as Olympiads. The first modern Olympics were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896. In the opening ceremony, King Georgios I and a crowd of 60,000 spectators welcomed 280 participants from 13 nations, who would compete in 43 events, including track and field, gymnastics, swimming, wrestling, cycling, tennis, weightlifting, shooting and fencing. The official symbol of the modern Games is five interlocking colored rings, representing the continents of North and South America, Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia. The Olympic flag, featuring this symbol on a white background, flew for the first time at the Antwerp Games in 1920.

Have Olympics been cancelled or postponed before?

Since the opening of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, the international sports competition has never been postponed but only been canceled three times: once during World War I (1916) and twice during World War II (1940, 1944). The 1916 Games were inconveniently scheduled for Berlin when World War I broke out. Those Games, and the Summer Games, which were somehow scheduled for Tokyo, did not happen. The Winter and Summer Games in Italy and Britain in 1944 never happened either.
