Crimes against Women: soot on the golden image of Bharatvarsh

From ancient times, India has been known for its culture, its traditions and the simple lifestyle that people follow here, diverse geographical and cultural variations. But still India is also known to be as one of the most unsafe countries for women. Mentioning India’s rank is not at all important as that won’t make a very big impact in justifying that India is a safer Nation for women.

Crimes against women are increasing day by day. Domestic Violence is one of the major crimes in India against women and rape is the second biggest crime in India against women. One rape was reported every 15 minutes in India in 2018. The central state of Madhya Pradesh reported the highest number of rape cases across India in 2018, with over five thousand. Northern states Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh followed during the measured time period. Overall, the country reported over 33 thousand cases of rape that year.

Being a Nation with a patriarchal society, status of women in India has more or less been the same. Even it has degraded and still degrading. The Mathura first rape case that was an incident of custodial rape in India on 26 March 1972, wherein Mathura, a young tribal girl, was allegedly raped by two policemen on the compound of Desaiganj Police Station in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. After the Supreme Court acquitted the accused, there was public outcry and protests, which eventually led to amendments in the Indian rape law via The Criminal Law Amendment Act 1983 (No. 43) .

Another case of rape, known as Delhi Rape case shattered every Indian that happened in 2012 and the incident took place when Jyoti Singh, a 23-year-old female physiotherapy intern, was beaten, gang-raped, and tortured in a private bus in which she was travelling with her male friend. There were six others in the bus, including the driver, all of whom raped the woman and beat her friend. Eleven days after the assault she was transferred to a hospital in Singapore for emergency treatment but died two days later. Four adult convicts sentenced to death; hanged on 20 March 2020 at 5:30 AM at the Tihar Prison Complex, New Delhi.

So it is evident that a victim dies and after that the whole nation has to do online protest and come on the roads. And after all this pressure, the victim’s family gets the justice that too after years. Many rape cases go unreported as in Police station; the victim is being told about the family’s respect and outside the police station the accused, threatens the victim to death. Even if the cases get registered by the police, they are left pending, unattended. More than 32,500 cases of rape were registered with the police in 2017, about 90 a day, according to the most recent government data.  Indian courts disposed only about 18,300 cases related to rape that year, leaving more than 1,27,800 cases pending at the end of 2017.

Other crimes like domestic violence have also been increased especially during this lockdown period that occured in months of March and April. In the country, the number of domestic violence complaints received by the National Commission for Women has doubled from 123 distress calls to 239 domestic violent complaints from March 23,2020 to April 16,2020.

Many other crimes against women like acid attacks, domestic violence are so prevalent in India. Each day, the newspaper filled with cases of crime against women. Newly married brides are forced to get more dowries from their homes and are tortured and sometimes get killed. Many videos go viral on social media where women are beaten publicly, why? Just because they are weak and women!
The mentality of the people is the only thing that is needed to be changed. Formulation of strict laws like all other nations should be there against crimes like rapes, acid attacks, etc. Vulgar material in the form of videos and images on internet objectifying women needs to be permanently banned so that a woman is not looked upon as an object in reality. As soon as the crime is proved, the accused should be given strict punishment and are needed to be given the same level of torture, they gave to the victim. A strict message is needed to be passed so that people with shitty mindsets should fear from committing such crimes and ruining the lives of the innocent victims.

Therefore it is much needed that something so strict is needed to be done by the government so that the nation must not get converted into chaos for the women and all other people who want to live a life freely and safely with proud and respect.

Humanity against terrorism!…

A few days back I watched a movie named “Hotel Mumbai”. It was about the 26/11 terrorist attacks. It portrayed it well how it happened and how Indian forces fought to keep the people safe. Over 1700 people were rescued in the operation and 100 lost their lives out of which 17 were hotel employees who sacrificed their lives to keep guests safe. It showed the terrorists taking orders on the phone and their handler in the neighbouring country controlling the situation watching Indian news.
It made me wonder how is this possible, how they can reach in without getting caught. The terrorists were late teenagers who were sent after brainwashing them in the name of god. We hear such incidents every year and in every part of the world. Some people connect terrorism to a particular religion. But it cannot be true. Terrorism has no religion. No religion teaches to kill innocent people. But yes few evil minds use religion as a weapon to brainwash youths. Our nation has always been an example in front of the world. We showed the world even if our religions are different, still, we live together happily.
Every nation has both good and bad kind of people. It’s always the battle of good against the evil. Thousands of soldiers around the world get killed because of terrorism. Terrorism is a parasite who’s sucking humanity out of the world. These terrorists are not always foreign invaders. The fact is they can’t plan an attack without internal support.
Now someone will say we can end it. If will kill all the terrorists around the globe, we can kill terrorism. But killing all the terrorists will help? It will help to a larger extent but it won’t eradicate terrorism. If you kill one, his son will take over and carry out terrorist activities. It’s all about the mindset. Everyone should feel the need for peace. Right from the school-age, we need to bombard students that picking up a weapon will not help at all. Peace is the ultimate truth. If we fall for such traps, we will end up destroying ourselves. We need to remind ourselves that we are humans and there is a thing called humanity. As a human, it’s our major duty to keep humanity alive.

Paradox…

A logically self contradicting statement is a paradox. Also known as antinomy. You can say it is a sentence that runs contrary to one’s expectations. Actually it’s just a smart mess. It does have valid reasoning but leads to a self contradictory or a logically unacceptable conclusion. It might seem absurd but is kind of the ultimate truth. That’s what makes it all the more interesting.

Let’s see some of the many interesting paradoxes that exist and try to understand them.

•Achilles and the tortoise 🐢🏃

One of the “greatest” there is. It was put forward by the Greek philosopher Zeno of Elea in the 5th century BC. It so happens that the great hero Achilles challenges a tortoise to a footrace. Being the hero that he is, he allows the tortoise a headstart of 500m. No doubt, when the race starts, Achilles is at a must faster speed than the tortoise such that by the time he has reached the 500m mark, the tortoise has only walked 50m further than him. When he has reached 555m mark, the tortoise has walked another 0.5m, then 0.25m, then 0.125 m and so on. It is a chain of such infinite small distances with the tortoise always moving forwards while Achilles always has to catch up. Now, logically, Achilles can never overtake the tortoise. Except, of course, intuitively he can overtake.

Don’t think of it in terms of distances and races but rather as an example of how finite value can always be divided an infinite number of times, no matter how small its divisions might become!

•Birthday paradox 🎉🎂

This is personal favourite. It is maths based by the way. Probability to be specific. You have already heard of this probably. It goes like this that in a group of 23 randomly selected people there is a 50% chance two of their birthdays match. Interesting? Wait. In a group of 367 random people there is a 100% possibility atleast two of their birthdays match. Sounds like such a small number. It counts as a paradox because we can’t handle such numbers.

•Crocodile paradox 🐊

A crocodile snatches a young boy from the riverbank. Pretty common situation right? Anyways, his mother pleads with the crocodile to return the boy. The crocodile being in a fun mood, wants the mother to guess if he will return the boy or not. Takes one guess to get the boy out safely. It looks simple – the mother guesses he will return the boy, if she is right she gets the boy, if she is wrong, the crocodile gets the boy. If she answers that the crocodile will not return him, however, we end up with a paradox!

If she is right and the crocodile never intended to return her child, then the crocodile has to return him but in doing so breaks his word and contradicts the mother’s answer. And if she is indeed wrong and the crocodile did intended to return the boy, the crocodile must then keep him even though he intended not to, thereby also breaking his word. It’s a brain twisting dilemma.

•Paradox of fiction 🎟️📕

Are you fixated with the harry potter characters? You ofcourse have a crush on the Marvel or DC comic characters. Oh or did you cry when Augustus died?

So here is the paradox. Point 1 People have emotional responses to characters, objects, events etc. which are fictitious. Point 2 In order to be emotionally moved, we must believe that these characters or events by no way exists in real. Point 3 No person who takes characters to be fictional at the same time believes that they are real. All three of these points one at a time can be true. If any two points are considered to be true then the third must be false or else produce a contradiction. There exist various proposed solutions to this paradox such as pretend theory or thought theory or illusion theory.

•The card paradox 🃏

This one is a little bit similar to the crocodile paradox. A little. So I say we have a card with us. On one side, the front side, “the sentence on the other side of this card is TRUE” written on it. You flip and “the sentence on the other side of this card is FALSE”. You take one as true and it leads to a paradox!

Thank you for reading. Have a nice day!🌼

In life an individual faces different types of problems every day. Each time a person falls, stands up, walks and again falls. The same cycle repeats everyday and hence every time with almost everyone. Sometimes, there are the life experiences which help the person to stop doing those things which cause trouble to him in future. Whereas, sometimes when caught in strange situations, a person needs help from outside.

There are friends, mentors and especially parents to help and guide in such tough walks of life. Even sometimes, when people are hesitant they start searching solutions to problems from the World Wide Web i.e., Internet. People start searching solutions form influencers available on different platforms like YouTube, Facebook, etc.

The person who has faced problems in life is the one who’ll be able to understand and feel that how it feels when there is no way to go out of that situation. People need a support just even from a pebble, for coming out that dark ocean of problems. A hand of affection, love and also good advice is just sufficient to help a person stand up and start walking again. But things don’t go as simple as they are said and written. There are problems at ground level which are needed to be talked about.

Parents, family, friends, mentors and everyone want the person to come out of the situation and become happier and normal like previously. Man being a social animal, needs love and attention. Attention for his problems, attention for his difficulties. Hence, everyone tries to give the best possible solution to person.

Everyone tries to give advices and solutions to the person from their own life experiences, the situations they’ve encountered, the type of people they’ve met, the type of life they’ve lived and the habits and the lifestyle they’ve followed themselves. People always try to uplift their loved ones from the dark ocean of confusion and sadness.

But it is generally heard from people that they are not able to solve problems in life even after the suggestions and advices from their loved ones. Now the problem arises that why this happens?

This basically happens with everyone. For instance a medicine used for curing a particular disease cannot be used for curing some other disease. The other disease will not get cured, but some other complications will occur to the patient. Similarly, life experiences and solutions from one person’s life cannot be the clear cut solution in some other person’s life. The reason being that each person is different, their thinking is different, lifestyle is different and entirely all the aspects of their lives are different.

Now question arises that how to solve such problems and get back to a normal life. The solution too is again very, very simple. Calmly, just listen to the advice the people, the loved ones of yours are giving to you. Now as you know that you live a different life with totally different thinking then try finding out similar ways to solve the problems by taking into consideration, the solutions by others. Now what happens if you find a solution by some other person better? Just don’t blindly follow people and try to deeply ponder upon the after effects and the probability of the accuracy of the solutions.

Whenever in life, you face some problem; just don’t at all remain quit. Try to discuss it with your parents or friends or your wife or even your children too (if they are well grown and turned into adults). Try finding different approaches to the problems in life and after all the analysis just follow one way, one solution and one remedy. If it works then thank God and person who gave the advice and even if it doesn’t works have faith on yourself and hope in your heart. Try different solutions in life and whichever suits you, follow it and start walking again with your head raised high, smile on your face and hope in your heart.

Therefore, in such way you’ll be able to cross each sea of difficulties gracefully.

Small yet distinct

The word ‘country’ makes one think of a large land mass. However, not every country is huge. There are some countries that are really small in size. They are so tiny, that some of them can even be covered by foot! Some of these countries can fit entirely within the city of another country. The smallest country in the world, the Vatican City, for example, can fit into the city of Rome, capital of Italy. Many of these countries are only small in size. With their wealth and natural resources, they can even compete with any of the larger countries. So, here’s a showcase of some of the small, yet distinct countries.

• Vatican City

Vatican City is the world’s smallest fully independent nation state. It is also the smallest by population. Situated on the western bank of the Tiber river, the Vatican City’s 3.2 kilometre border is landlocked by Italy. The Vatican City has served as the official home of the pope of the Catholic church since 1377. However, Vatican City was not declared an independent state until the Lateran treaty of 1929 which created the independent state of Vatican City for the Catholic church. Today nearly 75% of the Vatican’s citizens are members of the clergy. Along with the centuries old buildings and gardens the Vatican maintains its own banking and telephone systems post office pharmacy newspaper and radio and television stations. Its 600 citizens include the members of the Swiss guard a security detail charged with protecting the Pope since 1506. The most significant building in Vatican City is Saint Peter’s Basilica. It is the Italian language that is used by most of those located within the state however the official documents are written in Latin.

• South Korea

Compared to the giants of Asia like India and China, South Korea is much smaller in size. Its total area is 100,032 square kilometres. South Korea has one pf the most homogeneous populations in the world which are thought to be descended from several Mongol tribes that migrated from central Asia. Tourism is a fast growing industry in South Korea.

• Portugal

Portugal is a sovereign state in Western Europe. It comprises of the continental part of Portugal on the western coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the small archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean.

• Hungary

The name “Hungary” may very well come from the medieval Latin word ‘Hungaria’ which translates as “Land of Huns”. Another source states that the name is derived from the Turkish words on ‘Ogur’ meaning ‘ten arrows’ or ‘ten people’

• UAE

The United Arab Emirates is a constitutional federation of seven Emirates; Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah. The federation was formally established on 2nd December, 1971. The UAE’s oil reserves are the seventh largest in the world while its natural gas reserves are the worlds seventeen largest. The Dubai police fleet includes Lamborghini, a Ferrari and a Bentley. This is to allow them to catch speeders who can outrun other cars.

• Dominican republic

The island of Hispaniola, the second largest island of the Antilles in the Caribbean contains two separate countries, the Dominican republic and Haiti. The Dominican republic is the only country in the world to have an image of the Holy Bible on its national flag.

• Panama • Georgia • Ireland • Iceland • Sri Lanka • Costa Rica • Bhutan • Switzerland • Belgium • Israel • Fiji • Qatar • Jamaica • Singapore • Maldives …to name a few others.

Giving up isn’t a Choice, it’s a Compromise

In life everybody has their own struggles, their own circumstances and their unique life stories. All across the globe, there are 7.8 billion people who are entirely different from each other with just totally different lives, mindsets and different approaches for peace in life. Some people smoke whereas some don’t, some people do their own business whereas others go for a job, some people think like they should work whereas some don’t, and some people try whereas some, they just make compromises in life. Compromises because of harsh and difficult situations in life and some compromises are made just because of the fear of not getting successful.

In life there are different types of problems, problem of everyday food for the needy people. problem of shelter in adverse seasons for the homeless people, problem of being raised in an orphanage where the nurses beat you, problem of living with your relatives who are just so bad, problem of not getting your desired stream in higher studies, problem of sitting at home without a job, problems of not getting the love that you actually deserve, problem of not getting the love of your life, problem of doing a job which is not as per your likings and expectations and many more problems of different types in different peoples’ lives.

Some people always get scared when trying something which their heart says. Some people think about the society, the relatives’ reaction when they’ll listen of this and also there are some people who think that they are simply physically or mentally incapable of doing the desired work or the task which the heart always thought of.

Each day comes with 24 hours in it. The same morning, the same afternoon and the same night but there’s just one difference of surroundings. A person might be sitting and reading this article of mine in an Air Conditioned room with his belly filled with all the food he likes, whereas the other person who might be sitting in a somewhat uncomfortable surroundings with an empty stomach or a food that he or she don’t likes. But most of the things are literally the same. Now how to make these differences equal and who will make these differences equal?

The answer is ‘YOU’. Oh c’mon yes you are the one who is going to make a change. Change not for others but for self first . It is well known to everyone that an individual who is himself r herself in a good state or condition is actually the person in a much better position to make a change. Now one person will argue by saying that we must not be selfish and should think about society first. But as per the author of this article, it’s believed that do for yourself first. Try to come in a better position so that you are physically, mentally and financially in a position to help the needy ones.

Just try, try and try, each day and each moment. Giving up has always been the easiest task in the lives of human beings and due to which most of the people just live an average life and at the death bed realize that they should have at least tried that thing in life at that particular point of time at that moment. It is a known fact that every desire of the heart won’t get fulfill. But regretting at a later stage is worse than anything.

So, in life try everyday and every hour and every minute. Have faith in yourself and get back to it immediately and say ‘NO’ to everything else that takes you away from your goal. Admire your friends, your family members and your loved ones when they achieve their desired pedestal in life.

Keep trying each day and each moment.

This endless ocean of uncertainty will come to an end and you will approach your desired island of peace and self satisfaction”.

Yoga : Morning breakfast and Evening supper to the Body and the Soul

In the present times, everyone is just running all the time. Whether the person works in an office, or he or she is a home maker or a student too, everyone is so busy in their daily schedule that hardly few people extract time for their physical and mental self. Along with advancements in the field of technology, there are advancements in the diseases too. New diseases are taking birth and troubling the humans.

Individuals post on social media and say ‘Back to Basics’, without even knowing its true meaning. People think that being back to basics means that living a life in a remote area and eating the forest products. But returning to basics in true sense means living in the same surroundings and adopting the good techniques in life to make it disease free and simple too.

For the Indian people, from the ancient times ‘Yoga’ was a very good way to explore the inner self and finding peace of mind. But, the mentality of the people is just going to an air conditioned gym and spending huge amount of money on gym and the protein supplements. Whereas, Yoga is such a simpler exercise that anyone can do it at their place just with a mat beneath them and some time.

Yoga evolves from the Yoga Sutras which were written by Patanjali. Patanjali was a sage in India who is the author of many Sanskrit works including the most important, The Yoga Sutras. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are a collection of 196 Sanskrit sutras (aphorisms) on the theory and practice of Yoga. The Yoga Sutras were compiled sometime between 500 BCE and 400 CE by Patanjali in India who synthesized and organized knowledge about yoga from much older traditions.

Swami Vivekananda was the first person to promote and encourage Yoga at the global level. He published a book called ‘Raja Yoga’ in America in 1985 where he wrote about the productivity and the benefits of yoga for an individual. He took references from the Patanjali Yoga Sutras and told the world about the physical, mental and spiritual influence of Yoga in an individual’s life.

Doing Yoga practices early in the morning at the time of sunrise or after it and in the evening too is so beneficial for the body. Asanas in Yoga helps to cure Vata, Pitta and Kapha defects of the Human body. In the physical body, Vata is the subtle energy of movement, Pitta the energy of digestion and metabolism, and Kapha the energy that forms the body’s structure.
The most beneficial Yoga Asana is the Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation). Under this asana, different other asanas like Pranamasana, Hasta Uttanasana, Hasta Padasana, Ashwa Sanchalanasa, Chaturanga Dandasana, Ashtanga Namaskara, and Bhujangasana. Various other Asana in yoga like Kapaalbhati, Anulom-Vilom, Brahmari, etc which are so helpful for the body.

There are various videos of Yoga teachers teaching Yoga Asanas on Youtube and there are students too pursuing graduation and post graduation in yoga who teach it to others around them. Practicing Yoga and doing it daily afterwards all by self will help an individual to get rid of different types of physical and mental disorders. There is OM chanting too in which the Yogi (person doing Yoga) chants OM, in which there is a practice of breathing along with acquiring spiritual peace at the same time.

At present, the most influential promoter and the best instructor of Yoga is Swami Ramdev. Swami Ramdev is instructing people Yoga in India and all across the globe since 2002. He is the co-founder of the Patanjali brand producing different Ayurvedic products that are useful for the Human body.

Yoga is being practiced by children right from the age of 3, and also by the elderly people of age 65-70 and even more. It is a symbol of Indian culture as it evolved from India. Indians should necessarily know that what Yoga is and how it is performed. It is the reason behind the sharp mind and a healthy body. Not only children, middle aged people and elderly people but the younger generation which is contributing each day a lot in the economy, should practice Yoga each day so that they can tell this precious art to the future generations.

For a sound body, sound mind and a sound nation, Yoga is the only solution”

Are Gandhian principles relevant today?

Gandhiji was a national leader of India who forced the Britishers to leave India without resorting to violence. He is regarded both as a transformational leader and a leader of the masses. Every year on 2nd October, we celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary and recall his principles and philosophies. It is a fact that Gandhiji adhered to his principles of non violence, truth and satyagraha with utmost sincerity to achieve his goals. Many people argue that all his principles hold good in today’s world. We all have moved years ahead with lots of changes in lives, innovations in science and technology, vivid variety of lifestyles. Here the point is if the principles and ideologies of Gandhi are still relevant or practical in modern world or not.

YES

•Gandhiji’s principle are valid and everlasting His principles are based on truth and non-violence are the base of civilized human society. He practically proved to the whole world that a war can be fought without indulging in violence. In modern world violence is increasing rapidly. Nuclear weapons and terrorism are becoming common these days. More and more People are resorting to violence and divided into religious and ethnic compartments. We need guidance and the direction to save the world from this desperate situation.

• Gandhiji is an inspiration to international leaders also.

Gandhian principles are followed not only by national leaders but also by some eminent foreign leaders like Dalai Lama, Barack Obama, Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela etc.

• Gandhi’s principles of economic independence valid even today

Even today, our Prime minister has launched a programme ‘Make in India’ which very much reflects Gandhiji’s principles of spinning Khadi and giving employment to thousands of poor people.

NO

• Violence multiplies on being non-violent

In today’s era, violence can best be answered by violence. Those who remain silent when treated with violence suffer even worse if they do not fire back in the same way.

• Modern culture outplays Gandhian swawlambi philosophy

In today’s modern world, trends and fashion have taken a new shape and so people wear trendy outfits and by no means they are restricted to use self made khadi clothes as part of ‘Swawlambi’ philosophy of Gandhiji.

• Principle of truth not valid today

In a world where money is the most important part of life, big business houses and capitalists thrive on lies to make huge profits. Advertising agencies most of the time try to cheat people by projecting false claims. Today values and meaning of the success are far more different from the values of Gandhiji.

To conclude we can say that some of Gandhian principles are relevant even today, though some of them have become outdated and irrelevant. The principle of non violence cannot be ignored. Gandhiji’s vision cannot be ignored as they form the very base on which a new generation of decision makers must adapt in order to compete on the global level. If the energy of the youth can receive honest and selfless motivation and direction from the experienced then India can surely progress. Gandhi’s vision should not be lost in religious, political and emotional fervours. It must be reorganized and reconstructed for a brighter and logical future.

Contemporary International Relations

International relations have been a subject of fascination for most of us, the subject brings us into the different kinds of relations countries shared across the world. But have we ever stopped to think, why we should learn about international relations? Not really. International relations is a vast subjects, its main focus is on the relations shared between the different countries.

Its primary focus is to maintain peace and prosperity across the world. In international relations, peace is indivisible. The core objective of International Relation is to minimize the causes of war and create conditions for peace. We all are human beings, it is in the nature of human beings to share different and radical perspectives on the same thing, but what we should all focus is the need to eradicate a condition that can be a threat to our peace and prosperity.

An important objective introduced in the International Relations is the ‘Logic of Deterrence’. This logic was put into act during the cold war time. The time after World War II saw a lot of changes in the international system. There was an existence of two super powers, US and USSR.  There was tension between these countries and it has led to many proxy wars in other countries. But US and USSR never waged a war against each other, this was due to the logic of deterrence, both of the countries know that they have enough weapons to harm each other, and that there will no winner left standing. It could result in a lot of deaths without having a purpose and so they avoided a civil war at any cost, but it never stopped them from involving with other countries.

The League of Nations was replaced by United Nations after 1945. This was because it couldn’t prevent the second world II. The UN was established with the motive of preventing any more world wars and in spreading conditions of peace and tranquility. The UN had five main members – US, USSR, France, UK and China. They were known as the big five and are the permanent members of the UN, while the others members of UN are temporary.  The landscape of International Relations has changed across the times, from the disintegration of Soviet Union to globalization paved its way.

Contemporary shape of the international relations has been a collective result of the following three factors. Firstly, with the disintegration of the soviet union, there was only one super power, it was the US. Times after was the US Hegemony, other countries and states were afraid of US. Countries who were not even part of the both the alliances were also very careful to keep themselves out of the way of US.

Second reason was the widespread ideology of liberalism. With communism out of the match, liberalism was seen as a better ideology across the world. Now countries were close to each other for economic reasons rather than political or cultural reasons. One of the example is the Look East Policy by the countries of South East Asia. Sometimes countries are forced into being slaves, not as colonies but in a new term called as neo-colonialism.

And finally, with an increase in the connections across the countries, it has put into effect a set of undesirable changes. Some countries had problems of their own and soon that become problems of other nations too, like terrorism, environmental issues etc. Globalization has set into motion a chain irreversible change. As globalization has set in, it gave a lot of opportunities as well as challenges too. It has become so much important to study about these in our day to day lives.

A temporary peace

After a long period of worsening tensions on the contested Himalayan border, the countries India and China have surprised everyone by announcing that their troops are to quickly extricate.

A marathon meeting between Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Moscow has been followed by this announcement. It came despite the regular eloquence between the nuclear-armed neighbors, that had suggested increasing bitterness.

Earlier, in this week, China’s state-run Global Times had said Chinese troops would “quickly deal a heavy blow to Indian troops, and they will be all annihilated” if Delhi provoked a war.

India also had upped the ante, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh saying “there should be no doubt” about the country’s resolve to protect its territorial integrity.

The statements reflected the reality on the ground : a hostile face-off between troops.

In June they fought a deadly clash in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley with clubs and stones leaving 20 soldiers dead. Both countries still have a huge development in the region where they have overlapping territorial claims ; and overcoming their differences will not be easy.

Ice breaker’ envoy

Many observers, including Michael Kugelman, deputy director at the Wilson Center think-tank, believe that both countries were ready for a confrontation, but they also realised that a war even a limited one , was not an option.

It would have been catastrophic for both countries and the wider region. The economic stakes were too high to risk a war,” he said.

The fact that Mr Jaishankar served as ambassador in Beijing for many years and is known to share good relations with Chinese diplomats appears to have helped.

It did break the ice, Mr Kugelman says, adding that personal relations often play a role in crucial diplomatic negotiations.

India-China border dispute explained in 400 words
Rivals race to build along a disputed frontier
China and India face off on the roof of the world
Weather, an unlikely factor, may have also played a role. The higher ridges of the Galwan Valley become inhospitable in winters.

Lieutenant General (retired) Vinod Bhatia, who served in the Indian army, says troops are used to operating in harsh conditions, but “given a chance, both armies would want to avoid that”.

Reports also suggest that Indian troops recently occupied some ridges overlooking Chinese posts. Neither country has officially confirmed the reports.

“India may have used this advantage as a bargaining chip,” Lt-Gen Bhatia adds.

Both countries also have many other crises to deal with. India’s Covid-19 caseload continues to rise at an alarming rate and its economy is suffering. Any armed confrontation would affect the country’s ability to overcome these issues.

China, meanwhile, has tensions with the US and a host of other countries to deal with, as well as global condemnation of its controversial security law in Hong Kong.

How soon could peace be restored?

Yun Sun, director of the China Programme at the Stimson Center think-tank in Washington, says the joint declaration lacks details.

Firstly, it doesn’t mention the Line of Actual Control (LAC) – the de facto boundary separating the countries.

“Several points along the LAC are contentious where troops are still stationed, so there is no clarity on the resolution of these issues,” she says.
De-escalation takes time, says Lt-Gen Bhatia, and it will take longer in the current scenario.

“The area is too big and it will take time for commanders to come to an understanding. The military-level talks will happen when tensions are still high and emotions are raw,” he says.

Both countries want to maintain the status quo. And that is tricky, says Ms Yun, because the two sides define the status quo differently.

“Chinese troops have gone deep into the territory India claims, and there is no clarity if they will vacate those positions.”

What caused the escalation will also determine how quickly disengagement can happen. A major factor cited as a source of tension is a new road that connects Indian army stations in the region to a forward air base.

But Ms Yun believes the road can’t be the only source because its construction took 20 years and “it wasn’t a secret”.
She believes many factors, including India’s controversial decision to revoke a law that gave special status to the region and Washington’s improving relations with Delhi, played a role.

“Beijing felt punishing India will give a warning to Delhi and Washington at the same time. But what they did not calculate was that India will refuse to back down,” she says.

China has been in diplomatic confrontation with a number of countries since US officials accused it of not controlling the coronavirus outbreak effectively
So, they became more aggressive, she says, adding that this was reflected in the statements of Beijing officials in recent days. Aggression has been a key factor in China’s foreign policy – particularly in recent months. And Chinese state media often remind the country’s neighbours of its superior military might.

This happened during the stand-off with India as well – but only in the past few days.

Officials in Delhi and Beijing were largely restrained in their comments in June and July, even after the Galwan clash that left the Indian soldiers dead.

Mr Kugleman says this was because they didn’t want to undo PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping’s efforts in improving relations. The two have met 18 times since Mr Modi came to power in 2014.

“But it all came undone in recent days, and now it will be interesting to see how China and India sell the announcement to their people,” he says.

Ms Yun says China will find it tricky to reverse the rhetoric because “it can’t come across as weak or bullied by India”.

Resolving these core issues, including unsettled disputes going back decades, along the LAC that stretches for 3,440km (2,100 miles), will not be resolved in a few days.

“So, it’s a good start,” Mr Kugleman says. “Talks are better than no talks, but we just have to be cautiously optimistic.”

Peace, can it be achieved or only experienced?

“Don’t stay awake for too long
Don’t go to bed
I’ll make a cup of coffee for your head.” This goes perfectly for the mind peace with a slightest change that if you are a tea fan then replace it with coffee.

You know, it should be on Guinness Book for the most searched thing in the world.

I’m not saying that, i have got that.. no, and how can I get that when I’m living in the same world where you all are??

But, I know something which you should also know. Peace is something which can be never found, but always experienced. It can be never achieved, but, it can be shared.

Like, for a moment something happens which makes you happy, and you start dreaming of the life which is full of happiness. No, it’s not wrong, but what happens when for a moment you experience sadness. Do you think same or do, we think same??

No, we want that moment to pass as soon as possible and happiness to re-enter our life. And that’s wrong.

Gautam buddha said “When there’s wants and desire of something in your mind, peace can never make home there”.

Ok! But, aren’t we humans, it’s our work. Without wants and desire, how can a human live?? Does that mean humans are never going to find peace??

No, we can and someday we will, at least one of us will. All we have to do is live both the moments, happy and sad. That’s all, when we are ready to accept Whatever life is giving us to live and learn. Then we can have the Peace.

In a simple words, we can have our wants and desire because we are humans, but first we should have what is needed. Then only peace can make it’s home in your mind.

Now, how to know the difference  between wants and need. There’s always a simple example for that , you want to have 4-5 chapati but all you need was 3-4 chapati. Then why extra? For saving purpose? Come On that chapati will be thrown out in last if it didn’t get utilized in the required time, and it goes not just with chapati, it goes with every thing.

Like Gautam Buddha had an empire to run, and a family to see.. but he did what he was needed at that moment or in that era.

So, focus on the thing you need first, then when you achieve that, you will experience peace in your mind and then again you will go for wants but that’s acceptable because life goes on with thoughts and wants, but always go for need first.

See yaa.

The Power of Meditation

Our life is a race, we chase money, career, happiness experiences. We were constantly thinking about the next thing we need to do and worrying about our future. We have so many tasks, worries, responsibilities and needs, meditation is a powerful tool that helps us slow down and take a break. It has a long history of thousands of years evolved from many different cultures and traditions.
Meditation is a state of awareness, we stop the life race and observe with awareness inside ourselves and outside it here and now this is called mindfulness. While meditating we are mindful to the present moment we pay attention to things we usually ignore like the current atmosphere in our body’s processes. Meditation has many benefits; it reduces negativity, stress, anxiety, depression, tension and anger at the same time it increases positivity, self-awareness, calmness, focus, tolerance and creativity. Meditation refreshes our mind and recharges our batteries, it is like a mental restart button which lets us have a fresh point of view. More clearly we can look as it is an inner bath for our mind and soul. Scientifically, meditating prevents and lowers the risk of diseases usually those which relate to stress and blood pressure like a heart attack. Less stress means more health. People who meditate on a regular basis have higher levels of alpha waves which reduce negative emotions. Meditating over time has positive impacts on our brain, body and soul. There are many ways to practice meditation. The most common one being mindful to your breath; sit right where you are no matter if it is at work, home or any other place and start paying attention to your breath, inhale and exhale without effort, you can focus on different parts of your body and imagine our breadth moving towards them. And another recommended way is listening to guided meditation and following the instructions. Adopting meditation as a habit will help us upgrade our lifestyle and add more value to our life. Meditation can change our brain patterns and increase the performance of cognitive functions which are needed for thinking, remembering, learning, problem solving etc. Meditation really helps in managing pain, depression and anxiety of people all around the world. Even mindfulness meditation classes are being offered in schools and hospitals because of their effectiveness. The focus of mindfulness meditation is to practice the brain in staying and focusing solely in the moments, which is why the meditator is encouraged to think of nothing but his or her breathing and to have a mantra. The aim is to let go of the regrets of the past as well as anxieties of the future to have a relaxing line in the present meditation as food for the soul. It nourishes our minds and values, qualities like compassion, responsibility, peacefulness, truthfulness and forbearing temptations. It helps in making and keeping good relationships with others and most especially with ourselves. The calmness and tranquillity we get from this experience give us a sense of comfort and stability. Allowing us to stay positive in life and be resilient to any negativity. Throwing out meditation is not just a mere activity for relaxation, it is the world’s greatest therapy. So, why not give it a try when we are feeling stressed out and angry at someone. Just take a deep breath and relax at the moment. Clear your mind and be grateful for all these life experiences that can help you improve. After all, we want to improve the world, we have to first start with ourselves. So take time every day to keep clear and bring that clarity to those around you.
