The cover drive masters…

The cover drive is a special type of shot which requires fine wrist work and well-timed striking of ball to hit the ball into the cover-side area which is towards off side of batsmen. This shot is historically a famed one and the players who have mastered it are considered to be finest players of the game.

The stroke became historically famous during the golden era of cricket in nineteenth and early-twentieth century when cricket England started classifying players as Amateurs and Professionals. The amateurs mastered the off side shots while professionals practiced the leg side shots like flicks around the wicket.

When it comes to cricket, many interesting stats arise, one such is of playing cover drive in tests which has derived almost 40909 runs. Over the years the legacy of playing this shot has been passed on from legends like Mark Waugh, Micheal Vaughan, Sourav Ganguly to current stars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and many more.

The Leaders by Average:

While playing cover drive though Virat has scored 1038 runs off this shot and is the only player to do so ,he has been dismissed 14 times while trying to play it taking the average to 74.1 runs per dismissal. This is quite healthy average but interestingly he ranks 25th among top 45 batsmen who have scored 300-plus runs off this shot.

The leading are South Africa’s Aiden Markram ,Faf du Plessis and pakistan’s Asad shafiq. Markram has scored 338 runs off cover drive without a single dismissal and Faf du Plessis has scored 542 runs of 2 dismissals giving him fantastic average of 270.

Right vs Left- who plays it best:

The stats are revealing that left-handers are better players of the shot than right handers. It is clear that left handed players are edging the righty players for playing the shot. In fact the stats reveal that from over last 40-60 years left handers have edged right handers over the average runs per dismissals while playing the shot.
PERIODRIGHT-HANDERS’ AVERAGELEFT-HANDERS’ AVERAGE
1965-7435.9339.54
1975-8435.0937.06
1985-9435.6938.87
1995-28.7434.86

It is not wrong to say that left are right in this case.

Conclusion:

It is very interesting that cricket analytics have each and every information right from dot balls played by a player to the sixes he has bet.The cover drive has been always difficult as well as favourite shot of many legends.

Road to success.

The road to success is never easy and never a straight one.It comes with a lot of failures and bad experiences. You have to deal with all sorts of confusion regarding your target or goal. Your friends and family try to advice you on the their level of perspective and you also have to keep their advice in mind. When you deal with all your friends and family then comes the enemies who will want to take you down and wish you fail. But if you believe in yourself and have the so called determination within and believe in faith, the route will definitely lead you to success. Success in not a place you reach but it is a plan which you executed perfectly.

How to achieve success?

The first step to achieve success is to set a particular goal. It does not matter if the goal is a small target or a big one, what matters is the potential and the determination to get the job done. Secondly you will have to work on developing your skills which will be required in completing your goal. Lastly you will have to work on your time management skills and organize your time according to your needs and your lifestyle so you will have time to do other day to day jobs as well.

How to set your goal or target?

Each and every person in this world has purpose in life. It just needs to come out in the form of words or as a practical practice. To make it easy write down all your dreams, goals, wishes that you strive to achieve in this world. While you write all these goals do not think on how to achieve it at that particular time as it could lead to negative thoughts and would demotivate you. As you write these goals you will come to know how much you can explore the world by following your dreams and this will result in a positive belief in you. You need to prioritize your goals as why you really need to work on it and accomplish it and the other various reasons you are willing to invest your time in the particular goal. If you cannot commit to your goals there’s no need to write it down on a piece of paper.

What if you fail?

It’s important to focus and plan each goal. But what if you focus, plan, organize and invest all your time in the project and still fail? You will notice that you have not achieved the desired target but the experience you have gained while working on your goal takes you to some of the greatest positions in life which you might not have reached if you had not started working on your goals. As ability changes over time it is important for one to keep working and not accept failure as failure is a delay not a defeat.

Failing doesn’t make you worthless

In today’s world, we are constantly preoccupied with what others think about us. For some inexplicable reason, we would like everyone to think we’re successful and thriving. We fear that if we fail, we’ll be perceived as a good-for-nothing. But everyone fails in life. I mean, check out Steve Jobs or Bill Gates; did they become successful overnight?

Failing opens up new doors

While we often think of failing as the end of the world, it’s actually a redirection. I know it’s hard to believe, but you have to understand that every time something doesn’t work out, it’s because something way better is on the way. All we have to do is work hard, be patient, and trust the process.

Failing makes you stronger

Although failure knocks you down on your feet, it also forces you to get back up and continue fighting. It forces you to get out of your comfort zone and try things you wouldn’t have otherwise thought of trying. In other words, failure forces you to grow. So every time you feel like you’ve hit rock bottom, remember that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

Failure is delay not defeat

Life has a funny way of taking unexpected turns, but I promise you it’s nothing against you. You see, everything in life has its own timing, and everybody on this planet has their own personal clock. So sometimes when you fail, it’s not because you didn’t try hard enough. It’s because the universe is telling you that it’s just not your time. What can you do in this case? Trust your timing. Trust the process.

Conclusion

There’s no stopping while chasing success as it a journey not a destination. You will fail, not just once but many times.Your approach to learn after each failure will define your urge and potential to reach success.

Does college really matter for placement ?

Every engineering aspirant always dream about IIT but Unfortunately, approximately only 10000 students get selected from approx 12 lakhs aspirant from all over India by clearing JEE mains and JEE Advanced. Many engineering aspirants are not able to crack IIts or NIIts and that doesn’t mean they will not be able to get placements in reputed companies such as google ,Amazon,Facebook etc .Of course IIt or NIIT does matters but up to certain degree . IIT or NIIT nor any other top university guarantee you of getting 100% placement .You will even find some jobless IITians. There is no denial that approx 15-20% ( or even more) do not get placed from campus. It’s a reality check .If you are not able to get admission in top universities that doesn’t mean that you can’t be placed in Google ,Accenture or IBM like top Companies.of course ,you can still be placed in these reputed companies if you are really working hard.If you want to know college matter for placement ,not really .It depend only to a certain extent. It is truth ,that college environment and the visiting companies matter .Obviously ,there are more opportunities if you are pursuing engineering from a reputed college .Their are many private universities or colleges with budget friendly fee structure having good college environment and Well known company visiting their campus for placement (like Amazon )such as Chandigarh Group of college ,Chandigarh University ,Chitkara University ,LPU and many more .But even if you are the part of the college having not such environment or your dream company doesn’t visit your college .Obviously, one can’t see google coming to a reputed college .That doesn’t mean you can’t get placed there.Even then you can by sharpen your skills and can get placed even in your dream company.Remember ,Companies hire on the basis what they see in you not where you came from .

Always remember , what really matter is skills. If you have relevant skills no one can stop you from getting placed from even a mediocre college .Off campus interview are the best instance their students our judged according to their skills not on the basis colleges .I have known many people who worked hard even had faced rejection but don’t stop. They get deeper and deeper knowledge , brush up their skills and now they are placed in well known companies with good packages .What one should learn from this that one should not be afraid of getting rejection .

Who doesn’t want to do anything can come up with a number of excuses .It mostly depend on person how much effort he/she has put .It totally depend on Students they will get success in their life or not .IIT doesn’t give you a guarantee that you will succeed in your life nor a Students from mediocre college end up having lower end job. Definitely one should work hard , putting his/her 100% effort to grind their skills as much as possible , then no one can stop you to succeed in your life.

“going digital” a necessity for schools

“Digitization has created a space for every school to store crucial data in any way they want and analyze or process it with incredible speed and accuracy like never before.”

Here is how digitization of school data is the need of an hour and how a school along with school mobile apps can ease the burden on every parent, teacher and management.

Ease Of Accessibility

Imagine a 20th century school administrator who wants to find out the overall performance of his school for a period of 5 years. He would require at least 5 persons to work for a minimum of 20 days to find, examine and compile such a huge amount of data.

But if all the data of a school is digitized then within a matter of minutes it can be easily found out. Also, the accuracy of this data will be 100% without a doubt. If the digitized data is stored in an education ERP then it can be more

Efficient Monitoring

As the digitized data is readily available and easily accessible it can be monitored without putting in much efforts. The school management can check, at any point of time, the status of any task or activity. A principal can monitor the performance of a teacher or performance of a student or a class, etc. In this manner key details can be examined and scrutinized efficiently.

Enhanced Parent Experience

Teacher parent communication plays a vital role in improving student outcomes. This way a parent would know about the progress of their child.and can keep track of important scholastic activities also. Also regularly updating parents will lead to improved student performance which is again a huge benefit. Such information can also be sent to parents with school apps which are a better option since it makes data all the more accessible.

Smarter, Quicker Decisions All your data can be analyzed with high speed, accuracy and efficiency only if it is digitized. This can be viewed on School analytics dashboard which provides a graphical representation of this data.

Best way to stay updated

Sooner or later every school, campus and educational institution is going to digitize. Isn’t it a better option to do the inevitable sooner rather than later? Especially with fast technological advancements it is a smart decision to stay as updated as possible. That is the only way to be future ready and to avoid future complications.

Along with the above benefits, digitized data can help you bridge the generation gap between the not-so-technology-savvy parents, teachers and staff and the students. With countless benefits and a pressing need due to the rapid technological changes its imperative for every school to go with digitization at once.

World Picnic Day…

We celebrate world picnic day on 18 June, and It’s often claimed that life is no picnic but today it is! International Picnic Day is a chance to eat out in the open air with friends or family. The word “picnic” comes from the French language, and it’s believed this type of informal outdoor meal became a popular pastime in France after the Revolution. As fans of Jane Austen’s novels will know, 19th-century picnics were elaborate social occasions, with menus featuring a wide range of cold meats and pies that took days to prepare. International Picnic Day is celebrated in many countries, though its origins are uncertain. Charity events, school picnics, and all kinds of other group meals are organized to mark the occasion. You could also bike, walk or hike to a nearby beauty spot, or just take your sandwiches and cold hard-boiled eggs into the garden and enjoy an al fresco lunch.

International Picnic Day is observed on June 18, every year. It is a day to encourage people to go outdoors and enjoy a hearty meal in nature, with other people’s company. In the early days, people used to go on a picnic as an escape from their daily lives. The true origin of International Picnic day remains unknown, but it can be traced back to the end of the French Revolution and the Victorian Era. This day is also marked by various charity events and school picnics. People all around the world meet their friends and family and go on picnics. They generally used to carry food, outdoor games, soft drinks, juices, and other essentials to share it with their travel partners. According to the Guinness Book of World records, the largest Picnic took place in  Portugal. In Australia’s Northern Territory, the International picnic day is celebrated in August on the first Monday of each year. It is a popular concept in that area and the general public gets a day off on this day. Schools and Colleges are also shut on this day.

Asian people do not give any importance to the picnic day, and this day always celebrated in Australia and the U.S., Australian celebrate Picnic Day events since the late 1800s in Northern Territory. The Harts Range Races in Central Australia are held each Picnic Day long weekend. The races began in 1946 when three brothers Bennett, Quinton, and Kil Webb from Mount Riddock Station raced stockman Jack Schaber and the regional policeman Senior Constable Bob Darken over a distance of about a mile to the Ulgarna Yards to determine who had the fastest horse.

Moreover, in the U.S., Picnic Day is organized by a board of directors consisting of 18–20 students, ranging from different backgrounds and talents. Directors are full-time students and active participants of other extra-curricular activities and events at UC Davis. Every year, the board of directors selects a theme that will reflect the mission and vision of that year’s Picnic Day, and they also organized a different kind of themes and parade marshals each and every year since 1942 the themes started and in 1962 the parade marshal was started.

Here are some advantages and benefits of a picnic:

  1. Spending time outdoors, basking in nature, breathing fresh air, and enjoying a great view. The pure air invigorates you and leaves you feeling rejuvenated.
  2. Spending time with family is always a great bonding experience. In the fast-paced, urbane lifestyle of today, there is often limited time for maintaining relationships with some of the most important people in your life.
  3. Since picnics often take place in warm environments, the tendency to participate in relaxing small talk is high.
  4. While picnics offer many social benefits, you don’t have to spend the entire time chatting up a storm.
  5. Meals prepared and eaten at home are usually more nutritious and healthy than eating out and particularly so when you bring food for a picnic.
  6. Eating lunch outdoors is a natural mood booster. You can be amazed at how much the lack of sun in your body can affect your mood.
  7. Picnics are a great stress buster as it helps reduce the stress and anxiety related to work and home.

Please, spend time with family at outdoor and spread awareness regarding it.

“Valuing Picnics -This International Picnic Day”.

Human beings have been living on this planet since ages  working hard for their survival, finding food, water and shelter to life. These activities are still a part of many individuals as they do travel not for fun but for finding jobs and better homes. In earlier times, men used to stress a little less as they didn’t have much to worry  about. Spending Time with their family, friends and even animals and thus led a peaceful and happy life. In earlier times happiness meant to have proper food with loved ones, with water and shelter. But with the definition of happiness changed and transferred to things and materials. People were happy buying cars, bikes, homes and watching movies, playing video game and this got addicted to those. Man has spoilt his life working all day long, making his/ her feel like a couch potato.

But sooner the idea of recreational activities started to flow and people became fascinated towards these thoughts . They often thought of going and doing these activities which included trekking, hiking, travelling to mountains, enjoying the beach, river crossing, paragliding, skydiving  and many more. People used to enjoy their weekoffs by these activities which not only helped them feel relaxed but also remain happy and spend time with their closeone. Excluding all these, there is one more activity, which people used to don, but has seen a significant decline which is Picnic. “Picnic” includes having meals outdoors, playing games and having the essence of nature and enjoying it. It generally includes a visit to outdoor having a better view, may be park, lakeside, or beachside or any it get, bring any individual close to nature and their close ones. People most often went on these drives and enjoyed picnics. Also “International Picnic Day” is celebrated around the world on 18th June and people around the world come together in their local areas and visit local parks, enjoy nature, lay down on sheets and have a better view of mountains or rivers or beaches while enjoying their food and many more. So it’s a day full of compassion, emotion, togetherness and understanding each other.

But it seems to be reducing these days. People hardly have time for these or any recreation activities, working all day along working on their projects and the race to earn more money. This really affects relationship status with the close ones and even social relations. But the need of the hour is the shift one thoughts and priority from materialistic world to the more spiritual and show affection towards the living ones around us. Greed for money has led many dynasties to destroy, and relations to get smashed away. We need to understand that these times of happiness while on picnic or trekking or any other activity help us fight our bad times with our closed ones. This not only brings back the culture of sharing ideas but also shares out what any individual bus is going through. Support of family and friends help any individual to come up and win at any situation.

“So the main motive of Picnic and other recreational activities is to understand and improve our relationships in this tough world, make more memories and aroma of happiness and enjoy nature and it’s beauty. Time needs to be devoted as the first priority to these activities, thus making our relationship strong, unity in thoughts and strength in the individual personalities”.

When you come to old age, all the fancy aspirations are over, and you experience yourself as childlike again. But at a biological level, aging also results in the accumulation of cellular damage over time which leads to a progressive decrease in physical and mental capacity of the body. Familiar conditions in older age include back and neck pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, depression, heart disease, etc. so, if you are a senior and looking for some therapeutic practices to avoid these conditions, then you are at the right place! Yoga carries some low impact incredible poses that you can practice even in your nineties. In this article, I’m discussing yoga poses categorizing them on the basis of

•Standing yoga poses
•Laying yoga postures
•Sitting yoga postures

You can choose from the poses in terms of your present level of flexibility and medical conditions associated with your body. It is highly recommended to practice any yoga pose under the supervision of a verified yoga teacher. They can help you with the modification in the poses and customized it for your body.

Great years for fitness

Fitness is not only about looking good. If you wake up happy that’s enough to determine your health in many ways. Yoga cultivates a mind-body-emotion link, combines stretching with a deep breath, and develops relaxation. Practicing yoga in old age makes you touch some spiritual aspects along with its physical benefits. Yoga is one of the safest forms of exercise available for seniors with immense benefits.

Benefits of yoga for seniors

Although yoga has tremendous health benefits on the mind and body irrespective of the age of the practitioner, for seniors, the values of the benefits are more. Here I’m listing some benefits of yoga that seniors or old age people will easily relate to

Fitness and ability levels

Practicing yoga enhances one’s fitness level that results in an improved ability to do day to day work. There are numerous yoga postures available to strengthen the core and develop a strong foundation of the body. Yoga reduces the risk of falls in the case of seniors as it provides stability in the system.

Maintains equilibrium

Elderly people are often noticed with some unconscious movement of the body part, especially hand, yoga can help in improving this state of the body. Practicing yoga regularly creates equilibrium in the body and generates a certain level of awareness of the movements.

Improves flexibility

Yoga movements are so fantastic to generate an extra stretch in the body without causing any damage to the body. Flexibility in the muscles encourages the tissues to loosen and relax, which eventually helps to amplify their range of motion.

Encourage deep breathing

As yoga involves the coordination of breath and movements in the body, it results in expanding lung capacity to hold breaths for an extended period. Holding the breath for a longer period enhances the overall pulmonary health and respiratory function of the practitioner.

Bone strength

In elderly age, most people tend to have problems with brittle bones. Consistent practice of yoga can improve the weight-bearing power of the bones and reduces the risk of osteoporosis. Some promising researches claim to improve bone density in the body by Yoga practices.

Alleviate anxiety and stress

Anxiety at an elderly age is not new to this generation. Yoga encourages mindfulness and calmness in the system and prevents the day to day stress through conscious breathing and meditation. Researchers claim that meditation stimulates memory centers inside the brain and reduces the risk of depression among seniors. Yoga activates the “feel-good” prefrontal cortex and boosts the emotional health of the practitioner.

Improved sleep quality

Sleep disturbance is a common problem among people of old age. Sleep deficiency at this age is linked to the increased risks of high blood pressure, heart strokes, diabetes, etc. Potential sleep ensures the removal of toxins from the body and allows the brain to function properly. Performing yoga daily can help to treat sleep disorders like insomnia, relaxing the tissues in the body, and encourages a better quality of sleep.

If you are interested in web applications I suggest Python is a better choice for development rather than design.

Glossophobia

what comes to your mind when you see the word glossophobia, it may have occurred to you that as it something to do with the fear and then glosso may be, the fear of glasses, or the fear of glossy things. Actually this is a fear of speaking in front of many people, this   may be felt by most of you at first but it does not mean you are phobic. When a person has anxiety attacks and starts to feel really uncomfortable to actually keep his view in public. A fear of getting judged instills that person that stops him from speaking and he feels of just running away from the situation.

This phobia has many causes firstly being that if the person has a past experience of trauma that triggers the person every time one faces the stage. A child is not born with any such fear, there are only two innate fears that is fear of falling and fear of loud sounds. This phobia can be genetic but one comes to know only after growing up as they are put into the circumstances that enables them to recognize their fears. Its not like it does not have a cure, it does but it would take sometime and patience.

In 1860 a headlines was published saying ” The nervous side of Lincoln”  this was a letter which reveals his stage fear. Many people have shared this fear in them so if you have this fear you are not alone my friend!

What is important is to eliminate this fear rather than living with this, for how many days will you run away from presenting an amazing project you have designed, to your boss or to give a seminar in the class. Unfortunately in this present generation it is required that you not only have an amazing idea but also the calibre to present it, in front of the people. The most important thing is to overcome this fear  and to do that you have to work in small steps.

  1. Prepare a speech, and practice it in front of the mirror, till you become confident of delivering it to others without mistake
  2. Then ask your friends and family to listen to it, take their suggestions and improve your speech.
  3. Keep delivering speeches to your family and friends till the time you realize its time to take this to the next level and  that is to speak in front of unknown people.
  4. Then face your fear, go and  talk to unknown people and request them to listen to your speech, slowly and steadily try to increase the audience. Always make yourself remember why are  you doing this.
  5. Do this for a number of times, then lastly to test if your fear is fully gone, arrange audience but  dont prepare any speech let the talk be impromptu.  This guarantees that you are now free from the fear and now there is nothing stopping you from achieving anything in life.                                                                                                   This is just a way that is popularly used , it can take varied time to overcome fear for different people, this depends on how much they are motivated and how much they are learning each day.

India-China Relation and The World

In the recent skirmish on the China-India border, both sides have suffered heavy losses. It has confirmed from the official statement from India that 20 soldiers have martyred and no official data has come from China yet Editor-in-chief of the Chinese government’s news magazine Global Times believes that the Chinese military also suffered casualties. It has been the old attitude of China that whenever there is more loss on its side, it does not share the correct information. We had seen this attitude in the case of Corona also. Although China tries to hide the exact and actual data, somehow it comes out from somewhere.

This incident of the violent skirmish between India and China is extraordinary because such an accident has occurred on the Chinese border the first time after 45 years. Colonel Santosh Babu, who martyred, was leading the Indian contingent during this astonishing incident. According to military sources, this violent skirmish in the Galvan valley started on Monday night due to the changing attitude of Chinese soldiers. The Chinese troops intended to capture L.A.C. through the Galvan valley. But Indian soldiers thwarted the Chinese plan.

The way China has done stabbing behind the back, it proves that China is the most dangerous and vicious enemy for India. All these activities proved that trusting China even more than a century can prove to be the biggest threat for India. In the coming times, there will be unexpected changes in the relationship between India and China. But one thing is clear that a dispute arises on three different boundaries simultaneously, it is a sign of spacious threat. Relations with Pakistan and China are always intense. But Nepal is a neighbouring country whose relationship was not disturbed till date, but by presenting a new map and passed an amendment in the lower house of their Parliament and claiming a small part of India near to the area of Kalapani is the part of Nepal. It is an unfortunate situation for us. Experts of international relations believe that all these concern are interlinked. Chinese Diplomacy transforms from peace to aggression. Their diplomatic policy has changed. If we compare China of the 21st century to the China of the 20th century, we will find an enormous gap between the low profile china diplomacy and leadership china diplomacy. They want all control over the world. China is trying to compete with the United States of America. But the Chinese do not know that they are not like USSR. They could not take the place of the United States of America.

China is a country whose reality was known to the whole world that they do anything to increase its dominance and borders. The way China told the world about the Corona Virus was too late. They hide ambiguous numbers of infected and dead people, revised several bills against it to suppress the violence in Hong Kong and increasing military activities in the South China Sea proves how China is creating an atmosphere of unrest around itself.

The Science of Sleeping

Sleep is essential for the living bodies. This relaxes our bodies and minds. But all sleeps are not same. You may feel more refreshed even after a 10-minute dozing off than after hours of rolling on bed! Quality of sleep matters more than the quantity of sleep. This happens due to phases of sleeps which are not identical.

Sleep has basically two categories- REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and Non-REM. Sleeping starts in non-REM phase. This category too has stages [1]

  1. Non-REM sleep-
  2. Light Sleep: We are half awake in this stage. Muscles activities start slowing down, twitching may occur.
  3. True sleep: Breathing rate and heartbeat start slowing in this stage. Most part of or sleeping is in this stage.
  4. Deep Sleep: Breathing rate and heartbeat is slowest in this stage. Muscle activities are very limited. If we are woken up right off this stage, we feel disoriented for several minutes.
  • REM sleep- As name suggests, our eyes move rapidly behind the eyelid during this stage. The brain is very active during this stage. This is where most dreams occur. The breathing rate and blood pressure rise during this stage, but the body is paralyzed. This probably is to protect body from acting up on our dreams and hearting itself. People normally do not remember their dreams, but if they get woken off this stage, they may remember some parts.

Normally this cycle goes through step wise. Once completed, the cycle restarts. Normally we have 3-5 REM sleep stages during night. Duration of this stage is longer than previous REM stage. REM sleep is believed to be most important phase for learning and new memories, however newer studies are suggesting Non-REM sleep is more important for these things [2].

How much sleep required?

The need of sleep is for all animals. It’s programmed in our DNA. But how much sleep do we need? Every species have their pattern and requirement. Tigers sleep 16 hours a day while Giraffes can do only with 2 hours.

SpeciesAverage total sleep time per day
Python18 hrs
Tiger15.8 hrs
Cat12.1 hrs
Chimpanzee9.7 hrs
Sheep3.8 hrs
African elephant3.3 hrs
Giraffe1.9 hr

Even across humans different people need different amount of sleep. Different age, gender and phases of lives change our sleep requirement [3].

We cannot evolve or train ourselves to less sleep. Sleep deprivation may even lead a person faster to death than the food deprivation. World record for a man has going without sleep is 11 days. This was set by Randy Gardner in 1965. But just four days into the study he started hallucinating [4].

Impact of technology on sleep patterns

Sleep is such an essential thing, but since the industrial revolution and invention of electricity especially, there have been many tech products which have invaded our personal space- Radio, TV, Phones,  Internet to name a few. And therefore, all such technologies have had an impact on our sleeping pattern. The impact has been getting increasingly severe with the rise of mobile internet. There are hoards of apps which engage our brain and eat into our sleeping time [5].

Human body has a clock like sensor to identify sleep time. This sensor basically reacts to availability of light. As Sun sets off, the body prepares for relaxing. However with our modern technology, the light does not go out at the setting off of the Sun. We have plenty of artificial lights around us. To make things worse, the “screens” emit a blue light which sets off our sensors. Teen-agers are more susceptible to this body-cycle damage due to light than the adults. Mobile also has made us “hypervigilant” as it may start ringing anytime and we do not want to miss. This also impacts the quality of our sleep.

Conclusion

Sleep is an important part of our lives. There is a reason we are designed to sleep almost 25% of our lives. This should not be neglected. Unless completely rested, we cannot work with our full potential- thus hampering our peace of mind and or performance both. As technology is only going to be more and more evolved, we must take necessary steps to get the sleep we need.

Koffie

If you are wondering what is  koffie, it is actually the previous name of the drink which is most consumed in world that is coffee. Before making its debut to the english people the dutch called the drink koffie. Discovery of this amazing drink was actually by an accident, In Ethiopia a goatherd found that his goats became strangely energetic after eating berries from a specific tree. It is also said that a person in Yemen when chewed these berries he found  these very much bitter, then he tried roasting the seeds so that it tastes better but it became hard and then he boiled it in water so as to soften it. This developed a brown liquid which had a very good smell. As he drank it, his fatigue was gone .

What is it about coffee that people like it so much?  There are many reasons that a person likes coffee and also there are many varieties of coffee. Coffee is a subjective thing , everyone has their own taste. Instant coffees are many people’s go to drink , as it is easy to make and nevertheless gives the freshness and energy just to kickstart your work.  Many people prefer  brewed coffee as it keeps the flavor and the aroma of  the coffee beans intact. Coffee is a drink with a high amount of antioxidants that is good for our health and both types of coffee has the same amount , but if you ask the baristas( the person who serves coffee) they would always prefer brewed coffee, they call it ground coffee as they think its the original coffee. The major difference between them is that they are made of two different beans, Robusta and Arabica. Robusta is the one used in the instant coffee, these are cheap and have more amount of  caffeine. Arabica is the one which is used in brewed coffee they are lighter and have a more complicated taste.

There many more  types of coffee which is a little bit different from these two for example espresso where the coffee beans are roasted for more time than for brewed coffee and can also be made by robusta beans. People prefer this as it takes less time for preparation but does captures the essence of coffee. Latte is another type of coffee derivative which has steamed milk and some amount of foam being put on a short of espresso. Latte is really good for health, it is said that it helps to burn fat more efficiently than other drinks. Cappuccino is a Latte which has more amount of foam, this drink was very popular in Europe for a very long time, people used to drink it with their breakfast.

What’s more is if you add chocolate to the coffee it becomes mocha, and an ice cream coffee is called Affogato , if you replace the foam with chocolate sprinkles in an espresso then it is called  flat white.  Not only that if you like cold things more, coffee  is present there too. cold coffee with whip is frappuccino, without whip and nitrogen bubbles its a nitro and many more. From the time it was discovered people never stop experimenting with coffee to make it something which would be different. The last one which I am sure you may not have heard of is the Irish coffee which has whiskey in a black coffee.. don’t you think  that people are now trying really weird combinations!!!

As you have seen coffee is really a versatile drink , its health benefits are also innumerable, but anything consumed beyond a limit is dangerous. If you see when drinking coffee becomes a habit, then we get addicted to it and cannot live without drinking it for a single day. Many people drink it to stay up all the night this can make a person insomniac that is not good for health. For a healthy life one should always eat right thing and in adequate amount, and have at least 7-8 hours of sleep, That means  coffee should be consumed in a proper amount which should not hamper the sleep cycles.

Other wise enjoy your cup of coffee……

MECHANISM OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF ANTIBIOTICS

Antibacterial Drugs are classified according to their site of action which are as follows :

CELL WALL SYNTHESIS INHIBITORS
There are 3 different mechanisms by which anti-cell wall drugs work and thus they are also classified as following:

  1. First classification involves the drugs that directly interact with Penicillin-Binding-Proteins (PBPs) and inhibit the transpeptidase activity which in turn inhibits the attachment of newly formed peptidoglycan subunit to the pre-existing one.
This is the main mechanism of β-lactam antibiotics. These antibiotics include Penicillin (penams), cephalosporins, Penems, Carbapenems, and monobactams.
These antibiotics bind to the penicillin-binding proteins which are enzymes present in the bacterial cell wall. Different β-lactam antibiotics bind in a different way. After the antibiotics bind to the enzyme, it changes the morphological response of the bacteria to the antibiotic.
  2. Second classification involves the drugs that bind to the peptidoglycan subunit, blocking different processes.
The important class of compounds called as glycopeptides are mainly involved in this mechanism of anti-cell wall antibiotics.
Vancomycin and Teicoplanin are the major examples of glycopeptide antibiotics.
Vancomycin kills only gram-poitive bacteria whereas Teicoplanin is active against both. The overall mode of action of glycopeptides antibiotics is blocking transpeptidation i.e. similar to β-lactam antibiotics, they also inhibit the transpeptidase activity, and transglycosylation i.e. they being large in size attach to the peptidoglycan subunits thus creating a blockage which does not allow the cell wall subunits to attach to the growing peptidoglycan backbone.
  3. Third classification involves the drugs that block the transport of peptidoglycan subunits across cytoplasmic membrane.
The main example of such type of drugs is bacitracin, which is a simple peptide antibiotic originally isolated from Bacillus subtilis.
The mode of action of these class of drugs is blocking the activity of specific cell membrane lipid carriers which act as the attachment surface for peptidoglycan precursors and help in their movement from cell cytoplasm to exterior of the cell. This activity of lipid carriers is inhibited by bacitracin like drugs and they finally prevent the incoroporation of those precursors into cell wall thus inhibiting its biosynthesis.

Although, its route of administration is mostly oral or intramuscular, bacitracin is also known to show its effects when used as topical ointments like Neosporin.

INHIBITORS OF PROTEIN SYNTHESIS
Protein Inhibitors can be divided into 2 parts:

  1. Inhibitors binding to 30S subunits
    • Aminoglycosides bind to the bacterial ribosome, after which they cause tRNA mismatching and thus protein mistranslation.
This occurs by mismatching between codons and anticodons, which synthesize proteins with incorrect amino acid. This mistranslated protein, along with correctly translated proteins move into move into the periplasm where most of the mistranslated proteins are degraded and some of them are inserted into cytoplasmic membrane. This causes disruption of the membrane, ultimately killing the bacterial cells.
    • Tetracyclines are bacteriostatic and block the binding of tRNAs with the ribosome during translation thus inhibiting protein synthesis. Most of the tetracycline class of drugs are broad spectrum and are active against wide range of bacteria.
  2. Inhibitors binding to the 50S subunit
    • Macrolides are the large class of naturally produced secondary antibiotics. They are basically broad spectrum, bacteriostatic antibiotics. Their main mode of action is blocking peptide chain elongation and they inhibit the formation of peptide bond.
Patients allergic to penicillins are recommended erythromycin which is a macrolide.
    • Lincosamides include lincomycin and clindamycin. Though they are structurally different but functionally similar to macrolides. They are specifically known to inhibit streptococcal and staphylococcal infections.
    • Chloramphenicol also inhibits peptidyl transferase reaction inhibiting peptide bond formation. It was the first broad spectrum antibiotic and is very much active against a broad range of bacterial pathogens but is very toxic and can cause side.

INHIBITORS OF MEMBRANE FUNCTION
Biological cytoplasmic membranes are basically composed of lipids, proteins and lipoproteins. The cytoplasmic membrane acts as a selective barrier which allows the transport of materials between inside the cell and the environment.
A number of antibacterial agents work by targeting the bacterial cell membrane. They basically are involved in the disorganization of the membrane. Polymyxins and Lipopeptides are the main anti- cell membrane agents.

NUCLEIC ACID SYNTHESIS INHIBITORS
These drugs inhibit nucleic acid synthesis function by either of the following:

  1. Interfere with RNA of bacterial cell
Antibacterial drugs of this mechanism are selective against bacterial pathogenic cells.
For example: The drug rifampin, belonging to the drug class rifamycin blocks the bacterial RNA polymerase activity. It is also active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and thus id used in the treatment of tuberculosis infection. It also shows side effects.
  2. Interfere with DNA of bacterial cell
There are some antibacterial agents that interfere with the activity of DNA gyrase.
The drug class fluoroquinolones show this mechanism. They are borad spectrum antibacterial agents. Some examples of drugs in fluoroquinolone family are Ciprofloxacin, Ofloxacin, Moxifloxacin, etc

INHIBITORS OF METABOLIC PATHWAYS
There are some antibacterial drugs which act as ANTIMETABOLITES and inhibits the metabolic pathways of bacteria.
• The sulfonamides block the production of dihydrofolic acid.
This blocks the production of purines and pyrimidines required for nucleic acid synthesis by blocking the biosynthesis of folic acid. Their mechanism of action is bacteriostatic and they are broad spectrum antibacterial agents. Though humans also obtain folic acid but these drugs are selective against bacteria.
Sulfones are also structurally and functionally similar to sulfonamides.
• Trimethoprim is used in the same folic acid synthesis pathway but at a different phase, in the production of tetrahydrofolic acid.
• There is another drug, Isoniazid which is an antimetabolite only selective against mycobacteria. It can also be used to treat tuberculosis when used in combination with rifampin and streptomycin.

INHIBITORS OF ATP SYNTHASE
There is a class of drug compounds called as Diarylquinolones that are specifically active against mycobacterial growth. They block the oxidative phosphorylation process and finally leading to reduced ATP production which either kill or inhibit the growth of mycobacterial species.

Yoga – The art of mind and soul.

Yoga is the mixture of physical, mental and spiritual practices and discipline which was originated in India. The most essential purpose of yoga is to bring together the body, mind and spirit into a whole. Yoga leads an individual to a healthy lifestyle, good eating habits, better mental attitude and positive approach towards the world. The exercises performed during yoga will enhance an individual’s fitness and also benefit in mental well being.

The most common methods of yoga are the physical postures known as asanas and breathing techniques known as pranayama. Yoga teaches an Individual how important your body is and how you can improve your body’s flexibility and make it more strong. As the person starts to understand and value its body, the individual gets more connected with his body. Yoga makes sure a person is evolved for constant progress and has not time to get involved in other thoughts which could lead to anxiety and depression. This leads to a better approach towards the life.

Who can practice yoga?

Every person can perform yoga. There is always a suitable way for an individual to practice yoga, whether they are old or young, injured, fit or unfit, supple or inflexible, male or female. You just need to find the right mentor for you.

Physical benefits of yoga

  • Improved posture
  • Better sleep
  • Increased natural energy level and vitality
  • Greater flexibility, strength and stamina
  • Better balance
  • Stronger immune system
  • Pulse and respiratory rate decreases
  • Blood pressure decreases
  • Cardiovascular efficiency increases
  • Respiratory efficiency increases
  • Cholesterol decreases
  • Cleansing and regulating of all the body’s systems

Mental benefits of yoga

  • Calm and clarity
  • Greater confidence and generally more positive mood
  • Sense of inner well-being and ‘centredness’
  • Increased awareness of body and movement
  • Counters depression and anxiety
  • Ability to concentrate improves
  • More self-acceptance
  • Increased social skills

Different types of Yoga.

There are many types of Yoga, today let’s discuss one of the most important type of yoga which is Bhastrika.

The Sanskrit word “bhastrika” means “bellows” mostly employed by blacksmiths to melt metal. Like the bellows fan the hearth similarly Bhastrika Pranayama surges the flow of air into the body to supply heat at both the physical and subtle level–stoking the inner fire of mind and body. When this pranayama is done regularly it tends to remove blockages from the nose and chest. It is suitable for asthmatic patients and removes inflammation of the throat. Bhastrika increases the gastric fire. Pranayama improves appetite and digestion capacity. Bhastrika, when practised with Kumbhaka Pranayama, can generate heat within the body and keep it warm in rainy and weather .

Starting position: Do preliminary conditioning in Sukhasana or the other meditative posture. Sit on a firm chair with an upright backrest, if unable to take a seat on the ground . Keep the body above the waist straight and therefore the spine erect. Eyes can be kept closed.

How to do Bhastrika Pranayama?

The Sequence of steps:

Take in a deep breath and exhale forcefully through the nose, with none strain.
Immediately, breathe in with the same force.
Inhale and exhale repeatedly, deeply and thoroughly, using the diaphragmatic muscles with vigour. The abdomen moves out during inhalation, while the diaphragm descends. The converse happens while exhaling.
The above movements should be slightly exaggerated. A strong nasal sound will accompany such breathing. The process should be rhythmic and controlled, maintaining the speed as per capacity.
Do ten cycles to finish 1 round of Bhastrika Pranayama.

Best practice: Practice 3 rounds/session, with pause in-between rounds. Bhastrika Pranayama should be practised on an empty stomach, after evacuation within the morning.

Few limitations : Heart ailments, hypertension, high BP, fever, vertigo, pregnancy, intestinal disorders, spinal abnormalities and eye ailments, e.g. like a detached retina, glaucoma.

Benefits of Bhastrika Pranayama:

Favourable effect on the respiratory and digestive system.
Drains excess phlegm from the lungs.
Provides oxygen to the blood increasing the vitality of all the organs and tissues
Strengthens and tones the abdominal region.
Calms the mind
Energizes the entire body and mind.
Now that the question of what’s Bhastrika pranayama & its benefits are answered – Do try it out and luxuriate in this monsoon season with radiant health.

So as we come towards the end we can say that yoga is the medicine to every problem. From physic attributes to the inner peace, yoga takes care of everything. Yoga is not something you do for a day but it is a life long commitment to enjoy a healthy and beautiful life.
