Emily DIckinson

Birth, inspirations, and how her works were saved.

Emily Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830, in Amherst, Massachusetts. She attended Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in South Hadley for one year. Dickinson’s poetry was influenced by the Metaphysical poets of seventeenth-century England. She also read Book of Revelation, admired the poetry of Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and John Keats. She was dissuaded from reading the verses of Walt Whitman (Due to his daring writeups). Yet Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson ending up being two of the most famous poets from the time period who revolutionized both the subject and style of American poetry. The first volume of her work was published posthumously in 1890 and the last in 1955. She died in Amherst in 1886. Dickinson’s family found forty volumes of nearly 1,800 poems (or “fascicles”).

Dickinson assembled these booklets by folding and sewing five or six sheets of stationery paper, what seem to be final versions of poems. The original order of the poems was not restored until 1981, when Ralph W. Franklin used the physical evidence of the paper itself to restore her intended order. He relied on smudge marks, needle punctures, and other clues to reassemble the packets.

The Manuscript Books of Emily Dickinson (Belknap Press, 1981) is the only volume that keeps the order intact.

Her Writing Style:

Her features were of verse forms suggesting hymns and ballads, with lines of three or four stresses. Her unusual off-rhymes have been seen as influenced by the 18th-century hymnist Isaac Watts. The intellectual content of her work amazed many and her writings were exceptionally and beautifully bold and original. Her verses has distinct quality by their epigrammatic compression, haunting personal voice, enigmatic brilliance, and lack of high polish.

Her major themes include nature, law, music, commerce, medicine, fashion, finding oneself, death and immortality, and love. She had a unique usage of Capitalization. She is best known for her use of slant rhyme.

Facts:

  • Unconventional approach to poetry, she interspersed her writing with many dashes of varying lengths and orientations (horizontal and vertical)
  • She could play piano.
  • She called herself a pagan.
  • She had an older brother named William Austin and a younger sister called Lavinia.
  • She wrote about the benefits of science over religion.
  • She lived with her family throughout her life. She shared her poems via letters to Susan, her alleged love interest. Who became her sister-in-law later.
  • She sent 250 poems.
  • Dickinson was a fan of the book ‘Jane Eyre’.
  • Her sister and Mabel Loomis Todd (An alleged mistress) published her works after Dickinson’s death.
  • Her second Tombstone reads “Called Back”, reference to an 1880 novel by Hugh Conway called “Called Back” that Dickinson enjoyed loved. This was the idea of Martha Dickinson Bianchi, her niece. The reason could be that she wrote a letter to her cousins before her death to her cousins which had only “Called Back” written.

Emily Dickinson and Susan Gilbert

Ps… Dickinson is believed to have a lifelong love affair with her childhood friend Susan Gilbert, who agonizingly became her sister-in-law. Emily had written many letters to Susan till the end. The letters are believed to be indirect confession and expression of love. Austin’s mistress Mabel Loomis Todd -Editor and publisher- erased references to Susan from Emily’s letter, but the fact that the Mysterious “Master” poem – letters (Alleged love interest of Emily) were sent to Susan, doesn’t hide much. But, well historians will still call them “Best Friends”, right?

There’s a book called “Emily Dickinson’s Intimate Letters to Susan Huntington Dickinson”

Summary: For the first time, selections from Emily Dickinson’s thirty-six year correspondence to her neighbor and sister-in-law, Susan Huntington Dickinson, are compiled in a single volume. Open Me Carefully invites a dramatic new understanding of Emily Dickinson’s life and work, overcoming a century of censorship and misinterpretation.

Heart break

we hear about this heart breaks everyday it maybe our friend or family member or it can be self experienced but is it common to get heart breaks ?. Mostly teenagers goes through this stuff a lot and do many bad decisions during this period even they show their emotion by taking their own life away but is it really worth it. Its not only teenagers goes through this stuff even aged person gets divorce or breakup which is worse but they handle the situation better so this is only to know about teenage heart breaks.

Before finding the reason we can see some facts about these Only 12% say they never think about it and 20% say they rarely do. Not surprisingly, the number is much higher among unhappy couples, where 87% of partners contemplate leaving their relationships. But even 34% of extremely happy partners think about breaking up from time to time. I cant totally agree with is because there will still a part of everyone looking forward to meet his long gone girl friend if the breakup is all about misunderstanding and situation. There are some breakups which happens when he/she cheats which makes us more broken.

A study say women is the one who are more likely to do more breakups but they are the one who feels more broken after the breakup but the thing is a majority of people move in relationship without having a idea of it a relationship its not just a thing which you can go through easily but no one realizes that but the worst case is they do this again and again even though it hurts.

So is it okay to be broken ?. yeah you can be broken its completely normal but we have to handle the situation better without making he/she suffer we hear many things about a boy killing a girl for not accepting his love its not healthy for this society. Each and every parents has a responsibility of avoiding this situation by talking about this with their childerns who is going through a rough phase

TAKE A STRESS REDUCTION BREAK ! DO THIS…

” Don’t stress the could haves , if it should have , it would have “

Above thought is the thing which we all understand & will praise & will say that it is right . BUT , what happens to us when we have to apply this above thought ? We as a human being are much concerned about the could haves , the could haves which are not even certain , their uncertainty gives us stress . Why we don’t understand that taking stress for things which are not even certain in our lives would affect out health . And because of this we can suffer from health issues that would result severe in their future lives .

Every one wants to get relief from stress , but very few work on reducing stress . Let me tell you the fast & quick way to relive from your stress

MEDITATION IS THAT WAY !

If stress has you anxious, tense and worried, consider trying meditation. Spending even a few minutes in meditation can restore your calm and inner peace. Anyone can practice meditation. It’s simple and inexpensive, and it doesn’t require any special equipment. And you can practice meditation wherever you are — whether you’re out for a walk, riding the bus, waiting at the doctor’s office or even in the middle of a difficult business meeting, or while studying .

During meditation you have to be n full attention , close your eyes & should try to concentrate , it will work out best when you will do it with Chinese flute . It will fill your eyes , ears & mind with relaxation , & hence you will forget all your stress . Doing such meditation for just 10 mins in a day will fill you with energy & enthusiasm & also you will feel relief from your stress . Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health. And these benefits don’t end when your meditation session ends. Meditation can help carry you more calmly through your day and may help you manage symptoms of certain medical conditions. Meditation might also be useful if you have a medical condition, especially one that may be worsened by stress.

While a growing body of scientific research supports the health benefits of meditation, some researchers believe it’s not yet possible to draw conclusions about the possible benefits of meditation. With that in mind, some research suggests that meditation may help people manage symptoms of conditions such as: anxiety, asthma , cancer ,chronic pain , depression, high blood pressure , sleep problems , tension headaches , etc. Don’t let the thought of meditating the “right” way add to your stress. If you choose to, you can attend special meditation centers or group classes led by trained instructors. But you can also practice meditation easily on your own. And you can make meditation as formal or informal as you like, however it suits your lifestyle and situation. Some people build meditation into their daily routine. For example, they may start and end each day with an hour of meditation. But all you really need is a few minutes of quality time for meditation.

As we always says , ” its not the quantity but the quality that matters . Hence you should spend the quality time doing mediation , & give you body a boost instead of stress .

Remedy from heat ! “put your straw in coconut water.”

Its time to put your straws in coconut water & hydrate you body at the most of its level . Mostly dubbed as ” Mother Nature’s sports drink” by marketers, the demand is skyrocketing, propelled by celebrity and athlete endorsements and promises to hydrate the body and help with a whole host of conditions, from hangovers to cancer and kidney stones. Low in calories , naturally free of fats & cholesterol , more of potassium than that of four bananas , it is a super hydrating drink which gives you body full energy to go on with the pace that you are required to go with .

WHAT IS COCONUT WATER ?

Naturally occurring , coconut water has a sweet & nutty taste . Many people ask this question , how coconut is filled with water . Let me give you an answer of this , As the fresh water assimilated by the roots is conveyed right up to the crowns of the coconut palms through osmosis process, any dissolved salts which exist in the subterranean water automatically get eliminated through this natural filtration. Fresh water that gets accumulated in coconut is actually ‘endosperm’ or the food or nourishment for the coconut’s growth. Coconut water contains easily digested carbohydrates in the form of sugar and electrolytes. Not to be confused with high-fat coconut milk or oil, coconut water is a clear liquid in the fruit’s center that is tapped from young, green coconuts.

Professional tennis player John Isner credits coconut water with keeping him on his feet for his epic 11-hour marathon Wimbledon tennis win. “It is super hydrating and has kept me going in long matches and prevented me from cramping even in the hottest and most humid conditions,” he says. He drinks the mixture of coconut water & water before the night of the match & this helps him to get hydrated all day long in that match .

Sports nutritionist Nancy Clark, author of Nancy Clark’s Sports Nutrition Guidebook, says coconut water won’t rehydrate the body unless you can drink plenty of it. If you enjoy the taste and can tolerate large amounts, it could help keep you hydrated.

A 2007 study shows coconut water enhanced with sodium was as good as drinking a commercial sports drink for post-exercise rehydration with better fluid tolerance. Another study reported that coconut water caused less nausea, fullness, and stomach upset and was easier to consume in large amounts during rehydration. It is naturally occurring drink which will keep you hydrated all day long . In a study conducted, coconut water prevented crystals from sticking to the kidneys and other parts of the urinary tract. It also reduces the number of crystals formed in the urine. Researchers believe that coconut water helped reduce the production of free radicals that occurred in response to high oxalate levels in the urine. From nausea to kidney stones , coconut water has worked as a remedy for most of the health issues , so what are you waiting for ? Go and buy a coconut & enjoy the mother nature’s Sports drink .

Don’t Judge a Book By It’s Cover

Why we all always give more importance to our looks, is it really that important? is someone’s appearance is more important than his or her actual nature?

Why does people judge someone by their looks and come up with an conclusion based on someone’s external appearance without even knowing them. People forgot that the “appearance can be deceptive”.
If someone is comfortable with simple cloths and no make-up look, if he or she love to live that way then why others are so curious about that. It doesn’t matter that, what we wear or how we look it is not gonna affect our talent anyways.
Take of the mask and face yourself, looks or appearance can’t hide your true nature for longer. Remember we were born to be real not to be perfect, be yourself even if you live for a day.

Appearance valued to much in our society and on every point people will judge you based on your appearance but, don’t give many thoughts thinking what others will say, if I wore this or if I look like this, what will others say, peoples will gonna talk behind your back no matter what you do, how you look, they gonna criticize you all the time, just live on your own way it’s your anyways and remember only one thing that, “kuch toh log kahenge, logonka kam hai kehna, chodo bekar ki baton main kahin beet na jaye raina” and keep going.

No matter who you are, how you look, your skin colour, your appearance it doesn’t matter, being beautiful has nothing to do with your outer looks or appearance, it’s about your nature, your character and how you treat others. Everyone sees what you appear on outside, but they don’t know that a person becomes more attractive not by their looks but by their act of kindness, love, respect, honesty and loyalty they show. They will judge you but after knowing your kind nature they can’t stop themselves from loving you. Always remember that the appearance for small time but your nature is for lifetime.

Sometimes we come across some people who love to live simple, who don’t give more importance to their outer look but their inner beauty emerges only when we converse with them and get to know them better.

Judging a person does not define who they are, also your self confidence didn’t come from your appearance, certainly not your appearance!!

Let’s learn not to judge a book by it’s cover and let’s try to understand and know someone based on their inner beauty not on their appearance because APPERANCE CAN BE DECEPTIVE.

The most interesting things about Pune

For new-comers Pune may appear to be arrogant, rude and not-so-friendly, but after spending some time in Pune you will realize that they are actually sweet, a bit arrogant but kind. When you login in Pune you can’t logout.
For them who wants to live in Pune, here are some most interesting things about Pune you should know.

Pune, formerly known as Poona is the second-largest city of Maharashtra, after Mumbai and eighth-most populous city in India.

India’s first indigenously-run girl’s school was started in Pune by Savitribai Phule along with her associate Fatima Sheikh.

Pune is widely regarded as the second major “IT hub of India” and the top “automobile and manufacturing hub of India”
Pune is where Badminton originated in India.

Pune has 21 engineering colleges, which is highest in the world in a given city. There are many popular and old institutes in Pune and because of this in our Marathi language we called Pune as “ Shikshanache Maherghar ” it means Hometown of Education.

Pune has the highest number of software companies in India.

Beside this Pune has some unique things that you will only see in Pune.

1. Puneri Patya

People who mostly come from outside the city come across those ubiquitous Puneri Patya, which are known for their bluntness and arrogance, while they appear funny to the uninitiated. A typical Punekar thinks and acts as though they have the sole right to educate people in their own ways. A Punekar believes in calling a spade a spade. They want order and discipline around them, which is absent when it comes to traffic though. They don’t want to repeat the same thing to visitors or passers-by. Hence, the Patya culture has been thriving in Pune dishing out advice, warnings and at times, threats to those who have not adopted the city’s culture.
From this unique way of expressing their thought we can say that Punekars love to educate others and finding the mistakes of other peoples.
Being a Punekar myself, I never found these Patya strange. However, some people from other cities always made fun of these signages. It seems pun is part of Pune’s life as these signages indicate.

2. Puneri Misal

Famous Puneri Misal you should definitely try if you are traveling to Pune. Misal is like full time meal for Punekars, they can eat Misal all day without getting bored. Misal the local spicy snack of Punekars. It is the all time favourite dish of Punekars and you would find every restaurant and even the smallest hotel at the corner serving them.

3. No work between 1pm to 4pm

In Pune during some time in afternoon like about 2 hours from 1pm to 4pm you will notice that every shop even the smallest one at nook is closed.
Outsiders an those who are new at Pune think this habit of Punekar a bit weird, outsiders find it strange that almost all shops are closed for some hours in the afternoon since their owners take a nap during that time.

4. Puneri Chaha

Pune’s most favourite and famous tea destination “Yewale Amruttulya”. You will find it strange that, a tea shop is as famous as Starbucks. Many people travel far away just to taste “Yewale Amruttulya”, you have to stand in long lines just to taste a tea.

Essence of Old school love

Can we please switch to old school love, where physical proposals were a thing. Where proposals were not done over texts or phone calls. Where instead of staying busy on phones, people would look into each other’s eyes and converse. This Gen Z will never understand what it was like, what it felt like.

Lovely Couple Holding Hands and Stock Footage Video (100% Royalty-free) 1036502249 | Shutterstock

When I hear my parents or grandparents describe how they met and fell in love, I see a certain purity dictated by first meetings, holding hands, exchanging letters through common acquaintances, and fighting the world to be with each other. And when I consider how long they’ve been together and how they’ve stood by each other through good times and bad, it almost always puts a smile on my face. But, I also feel envious at times. The internet has ruined many of the elements that used to make love magical. I miss the way people used to talk and write about love. It’s now only seen in vintage black-and-white films, only in dusty, faded images of my grandparents. I no longer see old school love. In fact, I’ve experienced nothing like it yet.

The respect and dignity people had for each other was unmatched. Old school love was slow and patient, it was never rushed. They didn’t expect a kiss on their first date or even third date. They made every small brief moments count, like holding hands, writing handwritten letters, talking about life over long walks. Imagine, standing out of their corridor or street just for their one glance. That’s love. Imagine, waiting for the replies to your letters for a month. That’s love. Imagine watching sunsets at beaches over Netflix and chill at home. That’s love. I believe that love comes with all the embellishments like the conveying of things through the eyes, long walks which are taken while holding hands and always feeling like something is missing when your special someone is not around. Cute gestures like buying your partner chocolates when they have a bad day or taking them to your favourite spot in the city as a way to let them into your life go a long way in making special memories. Talking through a fight or a misunderstanding instead of breaking up and moving on to the next person gives love real strength.

However, it’s slightly difficult to survive in a world where the basic idea of love is now swiping right or left on a mobile app. The kind of love we see nowadays doesn’t seem like it’s a relationship between two peoples. It seems like it’s between them and their Instagram followers. These days, people date someone for like a week and brag about them on their Instagram, change their profile pictures. That isn’t love. Going out on dates, staying busy on your phones and clicking pictures just to post on these social medias, not to create memories. That isn’t love. I’m not saying that don’t go out on dates, but can’t you keep your phone aside and just listen to your partner, look at their glowing face when the moonlight falls on them. Enjoy the small moments and don’t miss out on this happiness.

Movie Review – Death Bell

If you are searching for an Asian horror movie with nerve wrenching suspense, then Death bell maybe the one you are looking for. Death bell is an absolute epitome of horror and thriller. If you’re among someone who enjoys watching horror movies- you should definitely add this to your watch list right now.

Death Bell (2008) - IMDb
Rated 5.6/10 by IMBD

Death bell or Gosa is a Korean horror suspense thriller movie directed by Hong Seung Yoon who is also a music video director and produced by Core Content Medias. The movie stars Lee Beom Soo, in his first horror film role, Kpop singer Nam Gyu Ri marking her acting debut, Kim Bum, Yoon Jung Hee in peculiar characters with Son Yeo Eun, Lee EL, Son Ho Jun and many others making it star-studded cast line-up. Set in a Korean high school, the film’s native title refers to gosa, the important midterm exams that all students are required to sit. A group of 20 high school students partakes in an elite class to prepare for a college exam. Trouble ensues when the students and teachers are trapped in the school building by a maniac and to be set out free then to need to answer his question or face horrible fate. The movie has but wrenching, brutal torture scenes which can be harsh for some people. It is neat and clean, topic and genre committed movie. Most of the characters show little development but there are not also much lows in their characters. The movie upheld the high tension up to the end. Once you are immersed in the storyline, you won’t be able to leave your seat. Cinematography and screenplay can disappoint, but the acting won’t. Nam Gyu Ri as Ina is set up as the plot’s central girl, who is determined to save her classmates. She has wonderful presences which grow as action pick ups. The movie has the basic Asian horror idea of avenging host associated with modern day students’ lives. The central core of the movie is an interpretation of the “torture porn” genre of Western Horror that was doing the rounds. This cultural immersion allows it to stand apart even if it doesn’t fully deliver. This is a feature for horror fans that are less concerned with fully rounded characterization.
All in all , Death Bell gives you best horror with a wonderful cast but with moderately good plotline and other aspects.
