Women paid for household work?

I am late on this topic, but this is a flabbergasting topic to debate on. Women[mother, sister,aunt,wife..} in our lives work everyday, and by “work” i mean not just work but also household work. Household work includes washing dishes, washing clothes, cooking, etc. The so called “household” work requires skill, patience, sacrifice. Our women sacrifice their sleep, to provide us with a comfortable lifestyle. We should be grateful for the efforts put in by them everyday. These activities done by our women, everyday, are called as “non economic” activities. That means they dont expect a paycheck at the end of the month, they take up those activities, I would rather say responsibilities out of love and affection. Monetising or making them economic activities will do no help for our women. This idea of monetising domestic work was brought in by Kamal Hassan, The Makkal Needhi Maiam[MNM] party president. This idea was mentioned in the manifesto of MNM for the State assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

Effectiveness

A United Nations report states that women perform around 75 per cent of the world’s unpaid care and domestic work, valued at 13 per cent of global gross domestic product. If included in national accounts, the unpaid care economy would represent between 15 to over 50 per cent of gross domestic product. The report further estimates that women in India spent about 352 minutes a day on unpaid work against 51.8 minutes by men.According to an Oxfam report, Indian women and girls put in more than three billion hours of unpaid care work daily. If it were assigned a monetary value it would add trillions of rupees to India’s gross domestic product.

Adding trillions of ruppes to India’s gross domestic product[GDP] might sound amazing and exciting, but this will only strengthen the long believed convention of putting woman involved in domestic work.

Will women actually get benefitted?

Definitely not, they will not get benefitted, as they dont expect benefit and do this out of love and affection. Love and affection always tops Money. This scheme if put in place will only force many employed women quit their job and get involved in household work to earn better. This will create a social norm of putting women in household work, which indeed might benefit the economy but will definietly have a harsh effect on the gender ratio at work places.

“Any woman seeking a career would be now bullied to take government’s money and stay home. This is no way towards women empowerment,” Tulsi Pillai, a 40-year-old school teacher from Chennai, Tamil Nadu tells Media India Group.

Pillai further calls it a ‘half-baked idea’ that is either not likely to see the light of the day when the time come or is going to do more harm than good to the condition of women in the state currently.

Should men involved in domestic work be given monetory benefits too?

A nationwide survey of time use has laid bare the unequal gender distribution of unpaid household labor in Indian households. While women spend 84% of their day on unpaid activities, men spend 80% of theirs on paid work. In addition, only 26% of men reported doing any kind of housework. This is a very small percentage, and considering the fact that for those men; domestic work is an addition, monetory benefits will not be necessary for them.

A Monk

Who are Monks ?

Why people are becoming Monks?

Is it some kind of religion ?

How a monk lives ?

What kind of God they persuit ?

Want to know more about them , then start some reading .

Introduction

A monk is a person who practices religious asceticism by monastic living, either alone or with any number of other monks . A monk may be a person who decides to dedicate his life to serving all other living beings, or to be an ascetic who voluntarily chooses to leave mainstream society and live his or her life in prayer and contemplation. The concept is ancient and can be seen in many religions and in philosophy.

In simple words , A monk is a man who devoted part or all of his life to a religion. The word comes from Ancient Greek, and can be translated as solitary. In Greek, the word can apply to women, but in modern English it is mainly used for men. The word nun is usually used for female monastics. Monks practice asceticism. They either live alone, or together with other monks who share the same ideals. Monks can be found in different religions, most often in Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Jainism and Taoism.

There living

Monks usually follow rules and regulations for convenient life. As a monk you must obey these rules .

  1. Poverty: the monk cannot own anything.
  2. Chastity: the monk cannot have sex or a sexual relationship and cannot start a family or get married.
  3. Solitude: the monk should always be alone. Some monks choose to not follow this law.
  4. Silence: the monk shall not speak unless it is necessary.
  5. Generosity: the monk should always help other people.
  6. Stillness: the monk cannot travel far unless it is necessary. Sometimes this means that the monk must be cloistered which means that they must not leave their monastery (especially Warsa period). Sometimes they can be allowed to leave, but must not go very far.
  7. Duty: The monk must do some things every day. For example, the monk must pray or meditate and must do some work.

Indian monks

One of the finest and versatile monk in India was Swami Vivekananda . Swami Vivekananda was greatly inspired by Ramakrishna. For Swami, Ramakrishna was just a plain and simple villager, who was a part of the Kali temple. However, his intense spiritual practices intrigued Swami.

For five years, Swami learnt everything from his master, Ramakrishna. After his master left the world, everyone looked up to Swami. He urged the followers of Ramakrishna to leave the worldly pleasures and look up to God.

“You cannot believe in God until you believe in yourself.”

His saying intrigued just not one nation but the whole world .

Life lessons

Being a monk , gives you a pleasure of being yourself . We live in the world where we get pleasure from materialistic things . We become selfish , ruthless, dull, lifeless and worthless. You have to believe in yourself in order to excel in life.

Start learning from lessons.

  • When you start to do meditation you recognize the egotistical mind.
  • Trying until you get it right.
  • The answer to your question is inside of you.
  • Real wisdom in life comes from doing something and failing.
  • We must be both compassionate and resilient.
  • Patience is a virtue.
  • Detach from your ego.
  • Happiness come from within, and also comes from outside.

Is Fashion Really Important?

Fashion is a worldwide phenomenon. From small kids to old people, almost everyone is familiar with the latest trends whether they like it or not. Fashion cannot be undermined especially given the sale numbers. For instance, the global apparel retail market is currently worth $1.34 trillion in retail sales per year. If footwear and jewelry are included, that value rises to around $2 trillion. These numbers may show fashion as an indispensable tool however I’d like to differ from this argument. Fashion, in reality, has put immense and unnecessary pressure on individuals. It has created such high standards of evaluation that people have forgotten the true meaning of fashion; to dress as one likes. Therefore, fashion is not really important because it puts the individual in a position where they cannot express themselves freely without wanting to keep up with others.

The first argument as to why fashion should not be considered very important is because it’s unrequired. Fashion is given too much importance in society. So much that the level of obsession regarding fashion statements has only been increasing. With the emergence of e-commerce and focused apparel branding, the ‘importance’ of fashion has been restated again and again. In 2017, a total of 60 million online transactions occurred on the fashion e-commerce sites themselves. The market for fashion from then has only grown. Buying apparel is not bad, however, the mentality of wearing one to prove yourself is wrong and people who tend to divert away from fashion trends are often targeted by fashion lovers or ridiculed for their ‘fashion sense’. People have forgotten that what defines an individual is their ideals and personality, not some high brand clothes.

Secondly, fashion does not restrict itself to clothing sense but also extends to body style.
What most people neglect while talking about fashion is the requirement of it to have a particular body size and shape. The fashion trends demand you to not only wear clothes of a particular style but also for you to have a certain body size and weight. This puts immense pressure and creates self-doubt and complexity amongst people who do not possess these “standard” bodies. An example of how fashion induced ‘body-standard’ can lead to harmful situations was seen in August 2018, when a 22-year-old aspiring fashion designer committed suicide for the continuous body shaming attacks that she was bombarded with.

Thirdly, fashion can become an unhealthy addiction. This statement especially rings true for kids and teenagers where keeping up with latest trends and incorporating them in their wardrobes becomes an addiction. With every change in trend, the addicted individual is made to change their sense of style. The addiction can sometimes become so severe that individuals tend to spend a huge amount of their time just dressing up. Research has indicated that shopping addiction affects even the adults. It is estimated that 5-7% of the adult population, who stay in developed countries are addicted to shopping. The constant anxiety and social appearance that comes with this addiction can only lead to worst-case scenarios in the individual’s life. Hence, fast fashion addiction can prove lethal in daily lifestyle as everyday worries like ‘looking good’ and ‘keeping up’ can occupy a major part of the individual’s thought process.

To justify fashion as important, many arguments have been put forward by the fashion-lovers. One of the argument states that fashion is a way to ‘express your personality’. The way one dresses reveals the type of person they are and can help us judge them better. For instance, a person who is well dressed and in formal clothes is chosen for a job prospect over a person who wears joggers or simple informal clothes for the interview. This is because, formal clothes imply your seriousness towards the job as well as showcases your personality to be that of a neat and immaculate manner. But I’d like to emphasize that this argument does not stand true for every section of society. Fashion comes with money restrictions and not everyone can afford ‘branded’ or even ‘good-looking’ clothes. Nowadays if you wish to look fashionable you are required to have money in your wallet. As the trend rises the cost of fashion apparels also rise, making it impossible for poor people or middle-class people to look ‘fashionable’. Hence, limiting our perspectives to just people’s clothes is very superficial according to me.

In conclusion, fashion in its regular description is not ‘very important’. One should not be pressurized to follow a certain trend or certain clothing style in the name of fashion. Not only is it utterly wrong but also insensible. A person should dress according to their comfort and likes, not to some forced trends or fashion “standards”. After all, ‘Beauty lies in the beholder of the eyes.’

Is Happiness Linked To Success?

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” – Albert Schweitzer.

Is there a correlation between success and happiness?

We have not come here in this world by our choice nor will we leave this world by our wish. We’re all tourists in this wonderful world. No one is gonna live permanently. We ultimately experience this One supreme Power that controls this universe, maintaining us.So this thought create a feeling that we are living here temporarily in this world. Joy and sorrow are the part and parcel of life. Being optimist genrates the feeling of hope and inner peace. It helps us to motivate ourselves and overcome stress and grief. Positive attitude leads you to take better decisions finally to achieve “SUCCESS and HAPPINESS”.

Metaphorically, the sun is a daily reminder that we too can rise again from the darkness, that we too can shine our own light.” As the negative and positive thoughts are always battling with each other, trying to win over the other but when we are optimistic, a positive feeling wins the game by making us more confident, brave, calm and content. Nelson Mandela’s quote goes well with it, “The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

The definition of happiness vary from person to person. As some are happy with less, but some with more. Although this is not the true definition of happiness. The real happiness merges from within ourselves in satisfactory appreciation with whatever we have. When we were young, we used to be happy with little things.. gradually we have set the criteria for ideal happiness that if I will have a car, big house, good job then only I will i be happy. These things become obstacles in achieving peace and happiness. If we set a condition with our happiness then we will never ever be happy in spite of having all goodness. Unconditional happiness is essential for true happiness. These are the reasons, most of the children are not happy with their parents, the reason is the they have made the condition that if I will get so and so thing then only will become happy, so we are focusing on the things about which we are sure. And waste their precious life moments, just overlooking the plenty of goodness in it because we try to see the happiness through our covered lens so we are unable to see any goodness.

As it is said’Peace begins when expectation ends’..This quote exactly fits in our day to day life. We expect too much from others but are unaware that they are also expecting the same from us. The modern society has no doubt changed completely; changing life style has distorted out mindset. The changing world is the world of new idealogy “More and More” . This has made the people selfish and self centred.

We should understand that every moment of our lives we can include happiness only if we take things in a positive manner. We shouldn’t depend on something or someone to make us happy. As it is rightly said by William James : “Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives”.May God make us from among those who brighten up another person’s path with happiness, even when our own is clouded with darkness. But that’s the moment we feel the “True Happiness” emerging from within us.

What do you define as happiness and success in your own life?

Happiness and success are nebulous terms that get thrown around a lot in the self improvement circles. They are the ultimate goals in life. The only things that truly matter.Or so they say.But do any of us really know what we mean when we say we want these things?

How will we know once we reach our goal of becoming happy and successful? What will we do after we achieve these things? Just kick back and do nothing, waiting for death, our job as a human being now complete? How do we know we aren’t already happy and successful?

I’m not going to sit here and waste time trying to define these terms for you. Look them in a dictionary if you want a bland, sterile definition. Don’t bother doing that though. We all have some internal sense of direction towards happiness and success. With each event that occurs in our lives, we intuitively know if it is moving us closer or further away. That’s good enough for me.

The above quote is a common misconception that people have. Just find a way to make yourself happy and you will be a success. Maybe some people feel that way, but I don’t want to be the happiest homeless man begging for change on the highway off ramp. Success, defined as happiness, could even be achieved chemically through alcohol, heroin, or other destructive and non-successful indulgences.

So what’s missing? Meaning.Happiness without meaning is not success.People also make the opposite mistake. They think that once they become successful, whatever that means, then they will be happy. They put in long hours at the office. Lie, cheat, steal, kiss ass. The ends justify the means, they think. We all know the cliche of the rich man, seemingly at the top of the world, who realizes that he still isn’t happy. It is a cliche for a reason, because it teaches an important lesson that many of us are all too willing to ignore.

Material success without happiness is not true success. So a lack of happiness makes you unsuccessful. A lack of success can certainly make you unhappy. Happiness alone doesn’t make you successful. Success alone doesn’t make you happy. So what do we do?

Balance happiness and success while doing something meaningful. Meaningful is something we all have to define for ourselves as we all value different things in the world. Balance is the key here. Hedonistic pleasure seeking lacks meaning and therefore does not make us feel successful. Ruthless competition and chasing material rewards doesn’t leave room for the things that make us happy in life.

So where am I going with this? What is the magical key to success and happiness and a life of unending pleasure, meaning, and satisfaction?

I don’t know, I’m just some guy on the internet. …This is something that I think about a lot though. People seem to think of happiness and success as destinations. A goal they can someday reach if they do and think and say and believe the right things. I’ve listened to a lot of interviews with successful people and they they are asked who they think of as successful, I’ve never heard anyone mention themselves. People with success beyond our wildest dreams don’t yet think they’ve reached that elusive destination we call success. They’re still on the path towards it. The same is true for happiness.

We are all much happier and more successful than other people in the world in certain ways. Many of us are currently much happier and successful than we ourselves once were. Still we want and strive for more. I think of success and happiness as a direction rather than a destination. No matter how long I travel towards the east, I will never get to a place called “east”. This is just a metaphor, there may be a geographic point on earth where east becomes west, but don’t worry about that.

You can continue to get closer and closer to happiness and success for all eternity without reaching your destination. This is because they are moving targets, constantly redefined based upon our current position. I realize that this is where my math metaphor falls apart, but don’t worry about that.

We can and should continue striving for both, despite, or even because of, the fact that we will never actually get there. Striving after a worthy goal, typically one that increases our happiness and success, is what gives our lives meaning. The goal itself changes constantly over time. The pursuit is the constant. A life with nothing to pursue would not be very interesting at all. Find your pursuit.

AN ANALYSIS ON VIJAY MALLYA SCAM

Introduction

The business tycoon, owner of the kingfisher brand and an IPL team (RCB), a former member of parliament (Rajya sabha) Vijay Mallaya caught everyone in surprise when his outstanding debt of 9,000 crores came to the limelight. He owed them money to 17 Indian banks and was accused of money laundering and fraud. In the fear of arrest, Mallya left the country to find refuge in Britain on 2nd March 2016. India had requested for the extradition of Mallya here and to try cases on him. This article discusses the greatest scam of the country and the law, which was invoked to try him for the offences he has committed. The extradition act, 1962 governs the extradition of a fugitive from a foreign country or vice versa where the process can be done either by treaty or arrangement. This article would collectively discuss more on the case and the act.

Vijay Mallya scam

Mallya who took over the business of his father after his demise at the age of 28 only saw his graph going high and there isn’t any turning back meanwhile. He turned the business into a successful one and expanded his business by investing in the airlines and liquor sector. His Kingfisher airlines have become the number 1 airline company and every passenger opted for the airlines to travel.  The global aviation industry in the year 2012 hit the ground because of various factors like tumultuous financial markets and the slowdown economically. Kingfisher had attracted its passengers with its all-economy, single-class layout aircraft and quality eatables and entertainment had faced its worst phase because of the collapse happening in global aviation. India’s civil aviation already had downfalls and every airline is incurring losses, but the 2005 policy decisions in the sector had made it worse. And in this scene of the collapse, Molly took the high step of buying Air Deccan in 2007 which caused financial backlash to the company and molly.

His lavish lifestyle, a king-like living had made him become the brand icon and kingfisher airlines were the result of it, its first take-off was in 2003 and within 2 years the airlines started commercial operations as well. From 4 flights at the start to 104 flights, the airlines glitter in gold and got satisfying responses from the passengers. So, after his decision to buy air Deccan, the kingfisher without having known of its fate entered its pothole. In 2008, various speed breakers were made to run the airlines in non-profitable routes too, hike in fuel price and the airlines succumbed to it. The airlines which once were celebrated over the world had been debt- trapped and when it took measures to prevent the collapse it was too late. All the international and domestic flights were canceled, shares steeped low and 2012 recorded 7,000 crore loss to the company. Meanwhile, the staff went on strike due to the non-payment of salaries to them since 2008. Critics hold that the merging of kingfisher with air Deccan was the main reason for its complete shutdown. Indian express in 2015 reported that as a result of all the poor decisions and inefficient company, Mallya owed loans from 17 Indian banks worst be SBI where he has 1600 crore debt. That’s when he fled to Britain to escape the arrest.

India and its extradition plea for Mallya

With the mounting debts and arrest in due, fleeing the country came as a checkpoint to the country and its governance. They termed him as an economic fugitive offender and started legal proceedings to extradite him back to try his case in an Indian court. Following his arrest, SC in 2017 held him guilty of contempt of court after a consortium of cases were filed by the banks on his non-repayment of his dues. When the case was going on, he meanwhile transferred the huge sum of 40 million dollars to his children. They held that such act was in contempt of Karnataka HC interim order which restrained the respondent to transfer, alienate, dispose or create third party rights in any of his movable or immovable property and thus his transfer amounts to contempt. So the SC had before deciding the quantum of punishment gave him the opportunity of being heard.

Since he had fled, India had filed a plea for his extradition. London magistrate court had ordered his extradition to India and gave him 14 days to appeal the decision. Before that, in the year 2017, he had secured bail in an extradition warrant issued by Scotland Yard and since then his extradition has been bouncing up and back and no complete decision could be ascertained till now. In 2019, Mumbai HC had declared him a Fugitive Economic Offender (FEO) becoming the first business in Indian history to be FEO. The final hearing in the court after the admissibility of evidence submitted by Indian authorities didn’t bring a fruitful solution to the yearlong trial. The extradition order was appealed by the respondents and finally, in 2019, the UK home secretary ordered his extradition which was praised by the Indian community.  Even after 2 years of this order, his extradition was stalled. The British government had rationalized the stall as there are secret legal proceedings that caused the delay.

Extradition laws in India

The Vijay Mallya case had constant pleadings of extradition in it. In international law, extradition is a formal and diplomatic process where the request has been made by one country to another to return the custody of a fugitive or criminal. In India, we have extradition treaties with 42 countries and extradition arrangements with 9 countries in order to ease the process of extradition. The said process is governed in India under the Indian Extradition Act, 1962. The government can issue a notification to the other country of extending the said act provisions to it under Section 3. Cases of the country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with India will also be considered and treated under section 3(4). Under this section, the CG can consider any treaty or convention with another country as an extradition treaty. India is a party to various conventions such as International Convention, 1997, the UN convention against corruption, and the UN convention against transnational organized crime in 2011. Once, the investigative agency filed the charge sheet and cognizance was taken by the magistrate and orders/directions for the accused having committed the crime was given, then a request can be made to the ministry of external affairs on extradition. And such a request should also be accompanied by an open-dated warrant of arrests with it having the details of the offence committed.

Critical analysis

India has a treaty with the UK and the countries are duty-bound under article 1 of the extradition treaty to extradite the person who had committed the crime in their native country and took refuge in the host country. An extradition offence can be punishable by both the contracting parties. As in the present case of Mallya, he was tried in London court for the offences he has committed in India and on the request made by Indian authorities to extradite him to India. If such a person is tried in the requested state court or if he proves the prosecution is unjust, oppressive, prejudiced, or discriminatory, the extradition request can be refused. The extradition of Mallya was delayed for years and various contentions had raised questions about the delay. To answer the apex court, CG had rationalized that there are “secret proceedings” against him in the UK. He was tried in UK court and found guilty though. As India already has a treaty binding the extradition with the UK, it is that the claimed economic fugitive would be extradited and be answerable to the loss he caused to 17 banks.

Conclusion

The case delay only proves the misuse of laws and proceedings by the rich. The banks, which otherwise acted cautiously, had lost most of their reputation. This case would act precedent to the future. So the government has to make sure that such events do not repeat and should extradite Mallya and set a benchmark for any future cases. The extradition is generally adapted only to lessen the burden of finding guilty of the accused that flee to another country to evade the arrest, so in such cases, the delay even in extradition would only bring further degradation to the law and justice. The Mallya case should be re-corrected and he is tried for the offences he committed in the Indian court and the dues.

PHP

The PHP machine-readable text Preprocessor (PHP) could be a programing language that permits net developers to form dynamic content that interacts with databases. PHP is largely used for developing net based mostly computer code applications. This tutorial helps you to create your base with PHP.

Why to find out PHP?
PHP set out as atiny low open supply project that evolved as a lot of and a lot of individuals observed however helpful it absolutely was. Rasmus Lerdorf unleashed the primary version of PHP method back in 1994.

PHP could be a should for college students operating|and dealing} professionals to become an excellent applied scientist specially after they area unit working in net Development Domain. i will be able to list down a number of the key benefits of learning PHP:

PHP could be a algorithmic form for “PHP: machine-readable text Preprocessor”.

PHP could be a server facet scripting language that’s embedded in markup language. it’s accustomed manage dynamic content, databases, session following, even build entire e-commerce sites.

It is integrated with variety of in style databases, together with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Sybase, Informix, and Microsoft SQL Server.

PHP is pleasingly zippy in its execution, particularly once compiled as Associate in Nursing Apache module on the OS facet. The MySQL server, once started, executes even terribly advanced queries with large result sets in record-setting time.

PHP supports an outsized variety of major protocols like POP3, IMAP, and LDAP. PHP4 another support for Java and distributed object architectures (COM and CORBA), creating n-tier development an occasion for the primary time.

PHP is forgiving: PHP language tries to be as forgiving as doable.

PHP Syntax is C-Like.

Characteristics of PHP
Five necessary characteristics create PHP’s sensible nature doable doable

Simplicity
Efficiency
Security
Flexibility
Familiarity

Applications of PHP
As mentioned before, PHP is one in every of the foremost wide used language over the online. i am progressing to list few of them here:

PHP performs system functions, i.e. from files on a system it will produce, open, read, write, and shut them.

JAPANESE – ANTIAGING SECRET

IKIGAI – review on anti aging

IKIGAI – YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE

It tells about the secret to a long and happy life, gives  the real meaning of life. Japanese culture which is unique, says that there should be purpose in life and there is no retirement for that.

THE SECRET

HARA HACHI BU – sayings in Japanese which is repeated before eating, meaning full your belly to the half. They stop eating when their stomach is half filled. The way of serving food is also unique in their culture that is food is served in five cups, initially they will have the feeling like they have more food, but when they eat that they will always feel like half filled. The pleasure of short term like eating snacks is avoided by them.

MENS SANA IN CORPORE SANO –  a sound mind in a sound body. It says the truth that both are mind and body are interconnected and is important for us to keep them active. Physical exercise can help one get out of mental stress. If one exercises regularly his neurons are active in the sense that he is able to adapt to the new environment easily, On the other case, the person who lacks exercise will be lacking inactive state of mind as the connected neurons don’t act accurately as a result the person is unable to adapt the surrounding.

THE STRESS

Research reveals the truth that stress is the primary cause of aging. Stress promotes cellular aging as the cellular structure telomere is affected and Premature aging is acquired by stress as the cells are unable to regenerate. The greater the stress, the greater is the degenerative effect on cells.

The ancient people had a high dose of cortisol and adrenaline, which comes in the danger moments and makes the body healthy. As Modern humans due to stress we acquire low doses of cortisol flowing constantly throughout the body, which finally results in health problems.

Threats lead to stress, Stress leads to digestive problems. As Prevention is always better than cure, we can avoid stress before that comes into us. We can attain the state of peace by regular practice of exercise, yoga and self care. Change is the process, we need to adapt it for the progress.

THE SECRET TIPS

Walk at least 30  minutes a day.
Replace digital with real.
Have a healthy diet.
Make a conscious routine
Workout, play and have fun.

THE ATTITUDE

The key element of  keeping the body young is by keeping the mind active. Escaping from difficulties or situations in life will yield nothing productive rather coming out from the cave of comfort and fear will help the brain to train it in a way of differentiating approaching problems.
People who live the longest have two unavoidable traits in common; a positive attitude and a high degree of emotional awareness, i.e., facing challenges with a positive outlook and are able to manage their emotions are on their way to longevity.

‘LIVE LONG, STAY HAPPY, STAY BLESSED’

TROUBLESOME TIMELINE OF AFGHANISTAN

Afghanistan’s timeline is replete with political instabilities, wars, massacres and conflicts. Partly due to internal conflicts and majorly due to foreign invasions. Afghanistan has a far longer history as a distinct national entity with continuity to the present than most of its neighbors. Contrary to some views, Afghanistan is a geographically well-defined country. Also, Afghanistan can be effectively governed and politically stable. The monarchial state that ruled from 1933 to 1973 under Zahir Shah was unlike today’s modern industrialized countries. It did, however, keep the peace and maintain order. Although the government did not provide services to most of the population (education and health, for example, were available mostly in urban areas and for elites), it did carry out the above basic state functions, which subsequent governments have struggled to fulfil.

King Zahir Shah, like his father Nadir Shah, had a policy of maintaining national independence while pursuing gradual modernization, creating nationalist feeling, and improving relations with the United Kingdom. However, Afghanistan remained neutral and was neither a participant in World war II nor aligned with either power bloc in the Cold War thereafter. This proved beneficial as the country was friends with both the enemies of Cold War. The trouble started brewing when the King was away to Italy and Daoud Khan launched a bloodess coup and became the first President of Afghanistan, abolishing the monarchy.

Daud Khan’s social and economic reforms during his time as prime minister and president were thought to be relatively successful, but his foreign policy tensed relations with neighbouring countries, and he was assassinated in 1978 during the Saur Revolution led by the communist People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA). PDPA declared its establishment and Nur Muhammad Tarakki led the party. From here Afghanistan would be laid as hotbed of international terrorism.

In 1979, the Soviet Army took over the land. Between 562,000 and 2,000,000 Afghans were killed and millions more fled the country as refugees, mostly Pakistan and Iran. Between 6.5%–11.5% of Afghanistan’s population is estimated to have perished in the conflict. The war caused grave destruction in Afghanistan and is believed to have contributed to the Soviet collapse  and the end of the Cold War, in hindsight leaving a mixed legacy to people in both territories.

The Taliban emerged in the early 1990s in northern Pakistan following the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. Afghans, weary of the mujahideen’s excesses and infighting after the Soviets were driven out, generally welcomed the Taliban when they first appeared on the scene in the 1990’s. They appeared on the scene as an ultraconservative group with political, religious and social control. Their early popularity was largely due to their success in stamping out corruption, curbing lawlessness and making the roads and the areas under their control safe for commerce to flourish. However they also followed cruel punishments like public execution. They imposed sharia law in the places they undertook.

Taliban fostered Islamic terror groups including al-Qaeda of Osama bin Laden and anti-India terror outfits operating from Pakistan. One of them had hijacked an Indian passenger plane in 1999 and flown it to Kandahar with Taliban security demanding the release of terrorists locked up in Indian jails. At the height of their power, the Taliban controlled nine-tenth of Afghanistan before Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda carried out the 9/11 terror attacks in the US killing about 3,000 people. The terror attack evoked an angry response from the US and its Nato allies which was directed against al-Qaeda but rooted out the Taliban from Afghanistan for 20 years. The 9/11 attacks brought the US-led Nato forces to Afghanistan’s Bagram airbase after the Taliban again rejected the demand to extradite Osama bin Laden. The US landed in Afghanistan in October. By mid-December 2001, the Talban were fleeing from their strongholds including Kandahar, and an interim government formed by anti-Taliban groups that had met in Germany took over power in Afghanistan.

The war in Afghanistan — launched on October 7, 2001 in the wake of the September 11 attacks — is the longest ever waged by the United States.

By the end of 2018, the US was firmly committed to completing a pull-out, putting the Afghan government of President Ashraf Ghani under pressure of a resurging Taliban.

In January 2019 the Afghan government admitted it had lost more than 45,000 security personnel in the previous five years during the tenure of Ashraf Ghani and the period of Taliban resurgence.

On the other hand, the Donald Trump administration was determined to bring its soldiers back from Afghanistan. A deal was signed between the US and the Taliban in February 2020 following several rounds of negotiations in Qatar. The US and Nato were to withdraw troops from Afghanistan in a time-bound manner.

The US-Taliban war had ravaged Afghanistan. And, in this war-ravaged country, the Taliban did not face the problem of recruitment and funding for its operations. Pakistani madrasas and Islamic seminaries in Afghanistan kept the supply of jihadi fighters on. The Taliban also got help from the antagonism against American presence within Afghanistan.

The Talibs never gave up on their hold over Afghan land. After its defeat at the hands of American forces, the Taliban resorted to guerrilla warfare. It would strategically target installations, public places or officials, military bases and government convoys from 2001 onward. It has succeeded in its strategy and evidently survived possibly the biggest counter-insurgency operations for 20 years by the most powerful military forces of the US and the Nato.

The 2019 survey showed that less than 15 per cent Afghans were Taliban sympathisers. But it drastically changed when the US entered into a peace deal negotiation with the Taliban in 2020. Close to 55 per cent of the surveyed Afghans said they believed that the Taliban would restore peace and order in Afghanistan.

Fish farming

Fish farming is the raising of fish for personal income or profit Based on the environment in which culture is done.is the fastest growing area of animal food production. Today, about half the fish consumed globally are raised in these artificial environments.

Characters and cultivable fish

The following criteria should be considered before selecting a fish for farming purpose.

⭐Rate of growth:Fish which grow to a larger size in shorter period are suitable for culture.

⭐ Adaptation to climate:The cultured species of fish should be able to adapt to the local climatic conditions of the farm.

⭐Tolerance:The fish should have the capacity to tolerate wide fluctuations in the physico chemical conditions such as oxygen, salinity, temperature etc of the water.

⭐Acceptance of artificial feed:When more number of fish is to be accommodated in a limited space, there is the need for supplementary feeding on compounded diets. The fish should show ready preference for these feeds.

⭐ Resistance:It is desirable that the cultured fish is Hardy enough to resist the common diseases and attack of parasites.

⭐ Amiability and compatibility:The fishes proposed to be cultured together should be able to live together without interfering or attacking the other.

⭐Conversion efficiency:The species of fish which give more edible flesh per unit of food consumed,is preferred.

⭐Consumer’s preference:Food preference of people vary with the geographic regions Hence, the species cultured should be easily marketable locally or to the targeted consumers.

Marine fishes

Besides the food fishes, there is an enormous potential for the mass culture of a variety of ornamental fishes, which can bring in high profit, also from overseas markets.

Fish pond

A successful aquaculture practice with a good harvesting is usually due to proper construction, preparation and maintenance of the fish pond.

Types of fish ponds

Within the fish farming pond system there can be different pond components, namely nursery, rearing, production, segregation and breeding ponds.Nursery ponds are shallow, while the others are moderately deep.In larger production ponds, water can be maintained at a depth of 2 and 3 metres.A fencing around the fish farm, may be construed for protection.

Preparation of pond

Before the culturing of fish, the pond should be conditioned.

Conditioning

A layer of lime is spread over the bottom, for two weeks. It removes the acidity of the soil, facilities desirable geochemical cycles and kills unwanted soil organisms.Water may be let in slowly after two weeks and filled to the desired depth. The quality parameters such as temperature, oxygen content,pH, turbidity, hardness, alkalinity and plankton growth should be checked for their optimal levels, before stocking the fish.

Manuring

After 15 days of limiting, the fertilization is to be done in order to develop the fish food organisms.Manure may be of organic or chemical nature.

Management of fish farm

Feed and water quality are the two major factors governing the productivity of the fish culture pond.Besides, seed quality, stocking and other management measures also determine the extent of fish production.

Feeding

Apart from natural food, most cultured species take artificial feeds. In general artificial feed should contain 30-40% protein,5-10% fat,50-60% carbohydrate, less than 5% cellulose,10% water, vitamins and minerals.

Routine management and diseases

Analysing water parameters, replenishment of water, regular feeding, observation for mortality and disease symptoms should be routine checks in the management of aquaculture ponds.

Star Trek(2009): Explained

Star trek was an amazing television series in the 1960s that followed the adventures of the federation ship USS Enterprise. The series is set in a world where the united federation of planets is protected by an organisation known as Starfleet. The movie is a reboot that puts a little spin on the original characters. The movie takes place in an alternate future, this was deliberately done to separate the reboot from the original series.

The movie starts in 2233 where the federation star ship USS Kelvin investigates a lightning storm in space. The strom serves as some kind of gateway and a Romulan ship Narada comes through it and attacks the Kelvin, Narada’s first officer demands the enterprise’s captain come aboard the ship. The captain is questioned by the Narada’s commander Nero, the captain is killed by Nero and the ship resumes its attack on the Kelvin. George Kirk assumes the command of the Kelvin and orders the others to evacuate while he pilots the Kelvin into a collision course with the Narada to ensure the crews survival. Among the survivors, George’s wife gives birth to James Tiberius Kirk.

Seventeen Years Later James now raised on earth becomes an intelligent but reckless man, meanwhile on Vulcan a young Spock enlists in the Starfleet instead of joining the Vulcan science academy. James gets into a bar fight with Starfleet cadets and meets Captain Pike, Pike convinces James to join the Starfleet to honour his father and use his talents. Kirk meets and befriends Dr Leonard “Bones” McCoy aboard the ship that take them to the Starfleet academy. Three years later James is accused by commander Spock of cheating on a simulation test known as the Kobayashi Maru, and Kirk is put on trial to be expelled from the academy. Before an official result can be had for the trial the Starfleet receives a distress signal from Vulcan, ships are mobilized to respond to the signal. Bones helps James get aboard the Enterprise by faking a medical condition.

Kirk breaks protocol when he realises the lightning storm is the same as the one which claimed his fathers life and convinces Pike that the distress signal is a trap. Upon arriving the Enterprise witnesses a decimated fleet, Narada destroyed the fleet and is drilling into Vulcan’s core. Narada hails the Enterprises and demands Pike to come aboard, Pike agrees but formulates a plan to destroy the drill. He makes James the first officer and enlists James, Hikaru Sulu and Orson to perform a space jump to destroy the drill. James and Sulu are successful in destroying the drill but not before Nero injects red matter in the planets core and sets it off. The enterprise is able to save Spock’s father and the high council before the planets destruction.

Nero tortures Pike to learn about the access codes for Earths defence system. Spock beams James on Delta Vega after James tries to mutiny, James is immediately attacked by a creature and somehow fends it off. On the planet James encounters an older Spock who reveals he is from the future, he tells that Nero destroying the Kelvin created an alternate timeline. The old Spock tells James about Nero’s vengeance against him, Spock couldn’t stop a disaster which resulted in Nero’s planet dying. The duo reaches a Starfleet outpost on Delta Vega where they find engineer Montgomery Scott, Spock helps Scotty develop a warp beam that allows James and Scotty to warp onto the Enterprise.

James manages to prove Spock into attacking him, this forces Spock to relinquish his command to First officer James. Spock decides to help James after a talk with his father. James and Spock beam themselves on the Narada to rescue Captain Pike and save the earth, after a brief fight James manages to veer the Narada into a collision course with the old Spock’s ship. The collision destroys the Narada just before James, Spock and Pike are beamed back to the Enterprise.

James is promoted to captain and he assumes the command of the Enterprise and, Pike is promoted to rear admiral. After some encouragement from his older self Spock joins the enterprise as its First officer and hopes to build a friendship with James.

The movie has 2 sequels and we will be looking at them soon. Until then Live Long and Prosper.

Vikram Vedha- A review

Oru Kadha Sollutama sir (Shall I Tell you a story sir)

There are very few movies that you watch multiple times and yet the magic is never lost. Vikram Vedha is one such movie.

Imagine that a simple folk tale evolved into such a well structured modern story! Beautiful characters!!

Like, every time we see Vedha, we see this playful guy, who wants to get stuff done as well , Cheerful at all times, but doesn’t want work half boiled.

A caring guy, who just wants to earn some money so he does whatever he has to

On the other hand, Vikram, an honest police officer. Honest to the core.

Characters AMAZINGLY well written that honestly, at times The dialogues make the jaw drop.

“Ungalukku pona ratham, engalukku pona thakkali chutney aa!?”

Translation: “if you bleed, it’s blood, but if we bleed is it tomato chutney?”

A BEAUTIFUL DIALOGUE. You know there are certain dialogues that we can imagine Vedha would say. But none of us can imagine Vikram saying the same thing. Cuz, character sketch…

Just EXTRAORDINARY characters, amazingly written and honestly, i don’t think there could’ve been better actors to portray the characters…
Every single time this movie is watched i feel the same excitement as watching it for the first time, which is a really hard feeling to evoke… Every time I listen to Tasaku, i feel like dancing! Every time i imagine the climax fight scene, i laugh at the part where Vedha asks “vikram sir, gun na style aa pudichikkena”

Translation: vikram sir, am I holding the gun in a stylish manner?

That excitement… It’s just… Over and above words!!!
