“LAST BENCH KA LOAFER” – YJHD

Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani is a light – hearted, entertaining film with a hidden but deep message that leaves you with many questions about life to ponder upon.
Are we living our truth? Are we following our passion? What is the purpose of life? And do we know who we really are and what we really want in life?

Since our childhood, we are made to follow the rules set by the society. Fourteen years of primary and secondary education, three year of college diploma, and then join the rat race to get a perfect job with a good package. After landing to a perfect job, we work hard to earn money, save some for our next generation and finally retire. Sadly, it’s the retirement that most working people look up to so that they can finally enjoy their life. Its a vicious cycle that has continued for generation after generation, only because no one questioned it.
The most important thing that we often miss out, while trying to follow the set societal pattern is to actually LIVE our lives. We are so engrossed in planning for the next that we forget the importance of now and do not even live the now. Young adults work for a secure retirement so that they can enjoy their life. But often, that is the time when most of them regret not following their passion and doing what was best for them. However, they are left with very little time and hence are not able to make amends to their mistake.

In the movie we see Bunny as such a character, who in no way is a perfect ideal boy from the society’s perspective. He is seen a careless, emotionless, flirtatious young boy who denies to follow the rules set by others. He sets his own path for life. He is passionate about travelling, which again is not the most respected profession unlike engineering and medical. They want him to fit to a tie-suit, 9-5 job so that he can earn well and be accepted by the society. However, he had other plans for his life.

Though he was a “last bench ka loafer” who never passed an examination without cheating, he was more knowledgeable compared to other characters. Yes, he had less of bookish knowledge but he could pass any examination in the subject called life without having to copy others.

We live for 60-70 years on an average, yet its very late in life that we truly get to know ourselves. Often people do not even know themselves and follow a fake portrayal of themselves in order to suit the eyes of the society. They try to hide their real self, just to protect themselves from society’s judgement. However, Bunny stood apart from such a description. He knew himself and his expectations from life. Hence, he allows the society to judge him inside out as he was true to himself. However, It took years for Naina to decide what she wanted from life , and how it was so miserable that she couldn’t even afford a weekend break, because of her immense syllabus. It took her years to understand that she can never be a perfect daughter in the eyes of her parents, just by obeying them. And it was high time, she had to stand up for herself and her dreams which may not be well accepted by others. She was such a product of the society that believed that if she followed every rule, studied well, obeying her elders, became a doctor, she would be respected and accepted in the society. However, it was when she met her classmate Aditi, she realised that she had to take things in her own hands in order to better her life.

To a larger extent, Bunny played an important part in inspiring Naina to accept and love herself for who she was. Bunny had seen a lot in life. He lost his mother at a very young age, he never had a good relationship with his step-mother, he had financial issues, he never communicated well to his father and he had dreams that were different from the normal masses. Yet he never gave up on his dreams. He knew he had to earn for himself. Hence, he perused multiple side jobs along with his college so that he could save for the life that he desired, without depending on his family.

Though people see him to be a flirty, spoiled brat. I personally see him as a happy soul who loves to meet people and make new friends throughout the world. On a personal level, I believe it is not wrong to be over-friendly or to flirt with the opposite gender, until it is within the boundaries and consensual.

We live in such a society where various incidents do happen without the consent of the other person and yet those at fault live with the show of a respectable men and are honoured. It is the true gentlemen like Bunny who are termed as Casanova. He is respectable towards women, knows his limits, is helpful even to the unknown and I guess that is what counts to be a true gentleman. There were certain incidents like the time when Naina was not comfortable talking about adult films. He knew his boundaries and respected her choices.

Bunny brings out the best in people which helps them know and love themselves. He knows the importance of travelling and how an experience like such can change a person’s perspective towards life. Even when he was a complete stranger to Naina, he encouraged her and it would not be wrong to say that he was the one who made Naina believe in herself and love herself.

There was one such incident when they had been invited to a camp party. Naina being unknown to the concept of chilling with unknown strangers and making new friend, was hesitant. Often in life, we face such situations where we have doubt ourselves and fear the unknown. It is then, that we need someone to understand us and give the last push in order to overcome it. Bunny indeed was such a push to Naina. Though everyone believed Naina to be a serious, studious bookworm, it was Bunny who could bring out the fun Naina that was always inside her, waiting to be discovered and explored.

Plot

In 1995, Russian undercover agents, super-soldier Alexei Shostakov and Black Widow Melina Vostokoff, pose as a normal family in Ohio with their surrogate daughters Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova. When the mission to steal S.H.I.E.L.D. intel is complete, the family escapes to Cuba and rendezvous with their boss, General Dreykov, who has Romanoff and Belova taken to the Red Room for training. Years pass, and Shostakov is imprisoned in Russia, while Romanoff defects to S.H.I.E.L.D. after bombing Dreykov’s Budapest office, apparently killing him and his young daughter Antonia.

In 2016, Romanoff is a fugitive for violating the Sokovia Accords. She escapes from U.S. Secretary of State Thaddeus Ross and flees to a safehouse in Norway supplied by Rick Mason. Meanwhile, Belova kills a rogue former Black Widow but comes in contact with a synthetic gas that neutralizes the Red Room’s chemical mind-control agent. Belova sends the antidote to Romanoff hoping that she will return to help Belova free the other Widows. When Romanoff unknowingly drives off with the antidote, she is attacked by Taskmaster, who is after it. Romanoff manages to escape Taskmaster and realizes that the antidote came from Belova. The two reunite in Budapest, where Romanoff learns Dreykov is alive and the Red Room is still active. Shortly after, they are attacked by Black Widows, and Romanoff and Belova evade the Widows and Taskmaster before meeting Mason, who supplies them with a helicopter.

Romanoff and Belova break Shostakov out of prison to learn Dreykov’s location. He tells them to speak with Vostokoff, who lives on a farm outside Saint Petersburg, where she developed the chemical mind control process used on the Widows. There, Belova reveals that while they were not a real family, she believed they were so. Vostokoff admits she sent their location to Dreykov, whose agents arrive and take them to the Red Room, an aerial facility.

Vostokoff and Romanoff use face mask technology to switch places before being captured, allowing Vostokoff to free Shostakov and Belova from their restraints. Meanwhile, Romanoff confronts Dreykov, who sees through her disguise. Romanoff learns Taskmaster is Antonia, who suffered damage so severe that Dreykov had to put a chip in her head, turning her into the perfect soldier, capable of mimicking the actions of anyone she sees, including several Avengers. Romanoff attempts to kill Dreykov but fails to harm him due to a pheromone lock installed in every Widow. Dreykov reveals that he controls Widows worldwide via his desk console. Romanoff intentionally breaks her nose, severing a nerve in her nasal passage to negate the pheromone, and then attacks Dreykov. Shostakov battles Taskmaster, while Vostokoff takes out one of the facility’s engines, and Belova searches for the other Widows, who are sent to protect Dreykov. Together, Shostakov and Belova lock Taskmaster in a cell.

Dreykov escapes as the Widows attack Romanoff, but Belova creates an antidote bomb that releases the Widows from the mind control. Romanoff gets into the control desk and copies the locations of the other Widows worldwide as the facility begins to explode and fall. Romanoff retrieves the two surviving vials of the antidote and frees Taskmaster from the locked cell. Vostokoff and Shostakov escape via a plane just as Belova takes out Dreykov’s helicopter, killing him. Romanoff gives Belova a parachute before battling Taskmaster in freefall. After landing, Romanoff uses the antidote on Taskmaster, freeing her from servitude. The freed Widows arrive as Belova, Vostokoff, and Shostakov say goodbye to Romanoff. She gives Belova the last antidote vial and the portable drive, telling her to find and free the other, still mind-controlled, Widows. As they leave with Antonia, Romanoff awaits Ross and his men, who have arrived to apprehend her.

Two weeks later, Romanoff reunites with Mason, who supplies her with a Quinjet. She leaves, intending to free the imprisoned Avengers.

Post Credit scenes

In a post-credits scene set after Romanoff’s death,Belova encounters Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine at Romanoff’s grave. De Fontaine assigns Clint Barton, whom she claims is responsible for Romanoff’s death, as Belova’s next target.

BOBBY (1973): The Game Changer of Teenage Romance.

Why is the movie considered as Hindi Cinema’s first teenage love story?

1970s ‘India’ witnessed lots of socio-economic happenings like unemployment, poverty and corruption and so were the plots of most of the movies of that era based on classism, social injustice, divide between rich and poor and so on. Although the genre “love story” was mostly ignored, the film “Bobby” in 1973 came out as an exception. Directed by Raj Kapoor and produced and distributed by R.K. Films with Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia in lead roles, the film is altogether a masterpiece. Not only is it considered as a benchmark of Hindi Romantic Cinema but it also completely redefined the genre, thus breaking the earlier notions of typical family drama love stories.

Film Poster of Bobby (1973).

The movie begins with six year old Raj, son of a rich business person who is sent to boarding school leaving behind his governess, Mrs Braganza in grief. After completing his studies in boarding school, Raj (played by Rishi Kapoor) returns for his 18th Birthday party where his eyes are stunned seeing a girl in a white gown, who’s apparently his governess’ granddaughter, Bobby Braganza (played by Dimple Kapadia). The next day, Raj visits Mrs.Braganza’s home, who’s in a better economic condition than before and gets to meet Bobby. The two subsequently develop a friendship and liking towards each other. Not very long before they had their first break up following a misunderstanding at Raj’s friend’s party which they sort out later during Bobby’s Kashmir school trip.

Slowly, both of their parents come to know about their affair and Braganzas are invited to Raj’s home for a dinner party by his father. However seeing the social condition of Braganzas, Raj’s father brutally mocks them leading Braganzas shattered. He doesn’t stop at that and visits Braganza’s residence to again insult them by providing them money to get rid of the Raj and Bobby’s relationship. He then fixes Raj’s marriage with another rich businessperson’s disabled daughter without telling Raj. Raj, however, runs away and this time Raj’s family along with police accuse Bobby’s father with ‘kidnapping’. Both Raj and Bobby’s family chase the couple and with no option left Raj and Bobby decide to jump in the river but are rescued by each other’s dad. The film has a “happy ending” with unification of two families.

How this film brought a change in the genre and why it remains a trendsetter?

It is probably Bobby, which introduced teenage romance in Hindi Cinema. Before this film, love story in the context of Hindi Cinema was only restricted to a grown up adult man and woman mostly in their late 20s who fall in love and marry or how typical Indian families indulge in arrange marriage and how the couple start loving each other after marriage. Bobby was one of the first Hindi films which showed teenage romance in a very entertaining and engaging way. There is an entire song in the movie titled “Hum tum ek kamre me band” (English: We both are locked in a room) where it is shown how the young couple (Bobby and Raj) accidentally get locked in a room, which proves that the movie was way ahead of its time. The film is also known for its exquisite closets varying from fairy tale gowns to dreamy jackets. Shot in spectacular locations of Goa, Mumbai and Kashmir, it was all soothing and added more to its glory.

The film was specifically made for the youth and Bobby being the debut film of both Dimple Kapadia and Rishi Kapoor added more to its freshness. The film had so much of impact on youth that during that time 14-15 year olds used to rebel against their parents to find true love and eventually the film became “template” for teen romances in India. The audience and Indian public were so fascinated with the movie’s character Bobby that many girls born in India during that time were named “Bobby”. Interestingly, this movie’s plot was replicated consequently in several other romantic Hindi films for over three decades.

The typical “happy ending” stories as mentioned earlier also became a trend ever since. Almost every popular love story in Hindi Cinema had a similar plot thereafter and that too in a proper sequence- first romance of a teen couple from different economic classes, followed by severe family restrictions and finally the climax- either happy or mournful. These narrative elements like family restrictions and classism became genre conventions ever since the release of Bobby.

So, these are some of the movies with social causes.

Top 20 best mystery Thriller movies

There is an undefined beauty in the film, filled with mystery and unexpected events. It drives most of us crazy when we don’t know what will happen next. When watching a mystery movie, the scenario is completely different. We love watching movies where it is impossible to predict. A mystery film becomes even better when the flavor of thriller is added to it. Thrillers are also about plausibility. Once magic or science-fiction works its way into the storyline, the film becomes less about normal people surviving harrowing situations and more about the mechanics of the fantasy world it now inhabits. The events of a thriller may be highly unlikely but they could, at least in an impressionistic way, happen in the real world. That’s what makes them captivating. It could happen to you. keeping this in mind I had prepared the list of best rated mystry thriller movies. The list consists of both , Hollywood as well as bollywood movies. The Movies are mostly numbered on the basis of their ratings, reviews from critics and public response. This is not a universal list in this genre, just take it as some suggestions if you wanna watch on this genre.

KNOWING ZINDAGI – DEAR ZINDAGI

Dear Zindagi by Gauri Shinde is an unrewarded masterpiece. The movie narrates the story of Kaira, a young lady in her 20’s who is financially independent and successful than most of the people of her age. It shows the importance of childhood in an individuals life, and how it can impact their adult life. It is a beautiful story of self-discovery and freedom from the three dangerous words- ‘Log kya kahenge’. To, accepting herself and her truth irrespective of anyone’s disagreement (After all YOLO).

As adults we often carry the burden of unhealed wounds from our childhood traumas. We might not be aware of their presence for years until they start reflecting upon our relationship with others, as we grow up. Similarly, Kaira did not have a normal childhood with a happy family. She had various scars of abandonment, shame, hate, jealousy from her past. At a very young age she was left to live with her grandparents for years, until she failed in the 2nd standard and had to move back with her parents as it was very shameful for them. As a child she was always considered to be the rude, moody and ill-mannered by her parents and relatives but no one ever asked her the reason, why she behaved the way she did.

It was only after her break-up that she started having sleep issues and realized she had to consult a psychologist. Dr. Jahangir Khan, the best therapist one could wish to bring out of the reel world, is played by Shahruk Khan. He is an empathetic, compassionate counsellor who guides Kiara in her journey of self-discovery. The lessons taught by him go way beyond the movie and can be applied in the real life.
As children we are taught that wiping off our tears and hiding our emotions as it’s considered a sign of bravery whereas crying and showing our vulnerable side is considered to be a sign of weakness. However, in reality emotions are meant to be expressed, be it happiness or sorrow. Year’s of unexpressed emotions impact a person’s emotional health and later on express itself in the form of physical illness if not addressed.

Being a girl from the 21st century Kaira had to face various comments by the society which started to effect her self-worth. This is when Dr. Jahangir explained her the Chair Concept. So, when we buy a chair we look at different varieties of chair and make sure that the one we choose is comfortable for us and suits us. Then why not apply the same theory in choosing the right partner, after all he/she will be the person we decide to spend our entire life with.(And that surely has much more impact on our life than a chair, so why risk it)

The movie gives a simple yet deep message of self-love and self-discovery. It’s important for us to know and understand ourselves. The best way to know ourself is to go back and explore our childhood memories. Our childhood shapes our life in a way that we often don’t understand. It is only when we completely understand ourselves, we know what we want and what we deserve in life.

TFM: the family man (Indian series)

The family man

The Family Man is an Indian ‘espionage action thriller streaming television series’ on Amazon Prime Video created, directed, and produced by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. who also co-wrote the story and screenplay with Suman Kumar, with dialogue penned by Sumit Arora and Suman Kumar. The series features Manoj Bajpayee as Srikant Tiwari, a middle-class man secretly working as an intelligence officer for the Threat Analysis and Surveillance Cell (TASC), a fictitious branch of the National Investigation Agency. It also stars Priyamani, Sharad Kelkar, Neeraj Madhav, Sharib Hashmi, Dalip Tahil, Sunny Hinduja and Shreya Dhanwanthary. Samantha Akkineni was hired for the second season of the series making her foray into the digital medium.

And to be honest it’s one of the best series I’ve had ever watched. Manoj Bajpayee is one of the finest actor of all the time. His acting gives a example to our new generation actors and he’s the god of acting for those who wants to become a actor.

From his struggle to his success, he implied all those thing he was willing to. And he has many awards and was nominated for best acting award (national award) for Gangs of Wasseypur. Rather than this all the actors/actresses in TFM1 and TFM2 contributes a huge part to make a series a super hit series of all the time. As in,
Manoj Bajpayee
Priyamani
Samantha Akkineni
Sharib Hashmi
Neeraj Madhav
Pawan Chopra
Kishore Kumar G.
Sharad Kelkar
Devadarshini
Gul Panag
Shreya Dhanwanthary
Sundeep Kishan
Sanyukta Timsina
Sunny Hinduja
Abhay Verma
Shahab Ali
Ashlesha Thakur
Vedant Sinha
Aritro Rudraneil Banerjee.

All these actors/actresses had different roles and they had persued that particular Roel very well with pure perfection. And if you ask who is My favourite among these so I’ll obviously say Manoj Bajpayee. But rather than him I love the role and character of Sharib Hashmi. He had done his job very well and the way he acted was truly unconditional.

And one main point It is only and only streaming of Amazon prime. And if you ask me that ‘it’s a boring day’ what should we do then I’ll recommend you this series to watch both season one and two.

I never thought that I would write blogs

I never thought that I would write blogs.
I am passionate about film making so I never felt that blogs can help me in this. So I used to watch only movies and shows, and learn about film making through YouTube and online, I have never worked on any project but I will probably apply for internship somewhere in some time.
I did not read blogs earlier but once I saw a blog on my google feed which was about films recommendation, then I read it, which had short explanation of some movies.
I got to know a lot by reading it.
Since then I started reading blogs regularly and now I can say that I understand by reading blogs in less time than what I learn from any video, it totally depends on myself how quickly you can read. Ho.
One advantage of blogs is that the way YouTube videos come in between, they are saved in blogs.

MOVIE REVIEW “The color purple”

“The color purple” is a breath-taking historical drama starring Whoopi Goldberg as Celie the main protagonist directed by Steven Spielberg. This movie claimed many prestigious awards like Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, Blue Ribbon Award for Best Foreign Film, etc. The world premiere occurred on December 18, 1985.

The plot is based on the Pulitzer prize-winning 1982 novel “The color purple” by Alice Walker. I always enjoyed the script, the idea of how a woman who is timid, terrified is converted to a strong independent personality at the end of the movie.

Celie is a woman cruelly treated by the world, a shy, frightened little girl whose life consists mostly of eluding the men who want to rape and beat her. As a young teenager, she is raped by the man she takes to be her father, and both of her babies a son and a daughter are taken away from her. Then after this Celie is married off to Albert by her stepfather, Albert- a brutal farmer, who beat her, uses her as a servant and use her as an object to satisfy his lust and also convinces her she is ugly.

There are many emotional scenes in this movie but for me, the scene that pulled my heartstrings is where Celie is separated from her sister Nettie-the one person who loves Celie, who understands Celie. Nettie is one of the beautiful things Celie has in her life. When her father tries to assault her, she flees to Celie for safety now then Albert tries to assault her but when she fights him off, he throws her from his house. This scene is so much emotional, powerful and real. Hats off to the actors Deserta Jackson and Akosua Busia who played young Celie and Nettie, they both are so good in the movie.

The climax in the movie comes when two powerful, strong independent women came to Celie’s life. One is Sofia who is married to Harpo (son of Albert from his first wife) and the other women is Shug Avery the one person Albert cherishes in his life. Shug a jazz singer who remains Albert’s one and only true love. Shug could see the beauty beneath Celie’s fear, she became the transformative power in Celie’s life.

One of the most joyous experiences I have in the movie is the scene where Shug tells Celie “Oh miss Celie why you always cover up your smile, show me that pretty smile” and for the first time Celie laughed her heart out and this scene is the favorite and most joyous scene of mine.

This movie has many scenes where feminist criticism is shown I.e. the inequality between the sexes, the injustice of domestic and sexual abuse, and women’s struggle for recognition as individuals who deserve fair and equal treatment. Some of the scenes are: –

  • Violence by males upon females is a common occurrence even in relationships that are quite loving, like that between Harpo and his wife Sofia. He beats her because a woman is supposed to mind a man. Beating a wife is regarded as an acceptable way to assert male authority.
  • Women are not allowed to laugh at a man like in the scene where Celie passed comments on Albert and every woman present there starts laughing at Albert, Harpo says “Shut up! It’s bad luck for a woman to laugh at the man.”

The most powerful and turning point of the movie is when Shug finds out about Nettie’s letter, Celie discovered that her children and her sister is alive whom she thought had died.

Now, Celie becomes so powerful that she questioned Albert about the letters and finally takes a stand for herself and told Albert that she is leaving him and going with Shug. They both have a war of words in which again Albert tries to convince Celie he says “You’re black, you’re poor, you’re ugly, you’re a woman! You’re nothing!” to which Celie replied “Until you do right by me everything you even think about gonna fail! I’m poor, black, I may even be ugly. But dear god, I’m here.”  This is the favorite dialog of mine in the movie. This particular dialog shows how a shy, frightened woman is transformed into a strong personality and speaks for her own rights.

Hats off to the director and cast especially Whoopi Goldberg who played Celie. When a movie character is really working, we become that character. That’s what the movies offer: Escapism into lives other than our own. For a time during watching “The color purple” my mind, my soul connects with the character Celie as I empathize with her struggle and her victory at the end.

This movie justifies its main central idea I.e. self-discovery, womanhood- how a woman’s mutual sympathy and support can act as a defense against the oppression of men.

Really loved the movie!! Hope you all will enjoy the movie.

In the movie, a group of friends attempt to make Axone while organising a small wedding for a member of their group but face more challenges than they expected because of the prejudice people hold against them. It shows multiple layers of differential treatment they receive, be it friendly or hostile. People in India need to watch this movie in order to be aware of the problems of North-eastern people. India will become truly inclusive only if all the citizens feel at home in every state of the large country.

• Harry Potter marathon

The eight movies of Harry Potter are incredibly entertaining and well-suited for all ages. Binge-watching the Harry Potter series and discussing the return of the Dark Lord as well as Harry’s fate keeps us engaged and on the edge of our seats. In these tough times, these movies allow us to escape into a fantasy land which completely takes off our minds from the crisis we’re facing in our real world. Written by J.K. Rowling, the Harry Potter books are a masterpiece on which these movies are based. By the end of the movies, we can’t help but want more adventures of the three best friends, Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger.

We should keep in mind that movies greatly impact a mind, especially a young one. Most of the movies being produced today have, at least a few, violent or aggress scenes. Some films may also have underlying tones of racism, sexism, homophobia, which they may knowingly or unknowingly promote. Thus, we need to be careful and should learn to identify movies which defame or discriminate against certain communities. Furthermore, we should also raise our voice against such films.
