The Modern Technology and Humanity

Since the art of making fire and creating handicraft tools, our civilization has come a long way. Science ad technology is making advances at an amazing rate. Technology has transformed our way of life by providing us all the means of comfort and luxuries. The faster vehicles for travel and facilities for global communication are also the result of technological advancement. It is beyond doubt that technology has made our life hassle-free and comfortable to an unimaginable level.

Technology has altered the physical side of man by providing him with lots of free time to do some services to society. But at present man has become like a machine, without feelings and emotions. They have become very professional fulfilling their duties efficiently. They are satisfied with their achievements and growth and are least bothered about the people who are not lucky enough to enjoy the benefits of life.

Man is not bothered about the problems, the issues which are prevalent in the society causing harm to the public at large. Every individual must work for the upliftment of the society by helping and cooperating in their specialized fields. Society will gain only when there is proper coordination between technology and humanity because the human touch is a must no matter how advanced technology is.

Positive Attitude

When you change your thinking, you change your beliefs; when you change your beliefs, you change your expectations; when you can change your expectations, you change your attitude; when you change your attitude, you change your behavior; you change your behavior, you change your performance; when you change your performance, YOU CHANGE YOUR LIFE.” Life is an ongoing struggle and man’s very efforts give rise to two conditions i.e., success and failure. Life has its varied shades to offer to every human being. As a challenging phenomenon, life has never been an easy affair. Life is just a battlefield, where human beings are the warriors and thus our success depends upon how tough a fight we put.

One should passionately believe that people can make what they want out of their lives. Despite the negative circumstances that we shall all face, there are many positive aspects of our lives. All we have to do to be happy is focus more of our attention on the positive things in our life rather than on the negative.

It is always better to keep an optimistic outlook in life to be happy. However, one should always remember that success can only be achieved if one’s dreams are accompanied by appropriate efforts as well. Positive thoughts and positive results can be expected only if one can afford to control one’s mind. Thus strong willpower with a positive attitude is very much the key to success.

EDUCATION

Education can be defined in so many ways as it is more than just seeking knowledge about any particular subject is it from textbooks or real-time lessons. Education is a way of helping a man to grow his full stature. It enables him to realize his nature both mentally and spiritually. Alphabets can, therefore, be considered the most momentous invention in the ascent of man. The use of words enables man to master time by preserving for the posterity the best that is seen, experienced, or done. Human .knowledge refined by successive generations has upgraded technology which has altered the very essence of life. The birth of civilization was conceived in the making of the alphabet.

The knowledge of the alphabet is the first step in the education of man and is central to the whole concept of elementary education. There is an inextricable link between education and progress. Education enables people to acquire greater control over their destiny. Farmers in India, who ushered in the Green Revolution, could do so only after they learned about the high yield of hybrid varieties of wheat and pest-resistant varieties of rice. Education also equips people to benefit from the social-economic and physical infrastructure whether they have to avail of credit facilities from the banks or to use telephone or telegraph for their business transactions.

Perhaps, the greatest use of education and knowledge has been made in the field of health and nutrition. Until recently, millions of people died every year in tropical and sub-tropical countries of the globe of diarrhea. However, when they were educated that the simple solution of water sugar and salt can save people from this fatal disease, the mortality rate substantially declined. The use of iodized salt has arrested the incidence of goiter throughout the world. The aim of education is to develop in man the characteristics of human beings.

Pollution

Stop It!

Whereas the growth of civilization with the aid of science has made man’s life easier, more comfortable, heal their and happy, it has been awfully noted in recent years that it has also brought the problem of pollution which has put before humanity the question of its survival.

Water and air – the two essentials of life have been mixed with so many undesirable pollutants, that fresh air and freshwater have become almost impossible to enjoy. This brings in turn the incurable diseases to the life and danger of decaying to the beautiful things made by a man on this earth. Pollution has two forms, viz; the pollution of water and the pollution of air. The pollution of water is mainly caused by surface water such as rivers, tanks, or lakes. The water is mixed up with many kinds of impurities due to the discharge of industries, hospitals, city sewage, the garage, and the leftover. All these make water poisonous which causes harm to the living beings, vegetation, and even to the non-living bodies.

Intellectuals and scientists should come ahead with preventive measures to eradicate the problem of pollution. Government should also take some ore concrete measures like cleaning rivers Ganga and Yamuna and making them free from pollutants. Most importantly we as educated and concerned beings should also take preventive measures and spread awareness around regarding pollution and consequences of it, after all, mother earth is one of our major responsibilities.

Role of Women in development of Society

All about WOMEN

Women, in India, were treated with dignity and respect in the Vedic period. The lady of the house was treated as the Devi Laxmi in the family. But, this status changed due to the political changes in the countries scenario. They were denied equal rights and liberty in almost every community of the world. In the past several decades, the status of women has greatly improved. The availability of education and the policies of the government have done a lot in the improvement of the status of women.

Nowadays, women play an important part in the development of modern society. Many women are working in prestigious professions, such as medicine, law, media, management, and engineering. They comprise a large part of the workers in business and factories. In addition, they are working in important positions which used to be held mainly by men there are even some businesses that are run completely and fully by women.

Clearly, women are making outstanding contributions to the progress of modern society. Due to women’s higher education, society has made considerable progress. Moreover, the improved status of women, due to their positive role in the development of the country has not only to help women’s prestige but has also broadened their vision.

Self-Control

We may consider ourselves to be well-established persons but there are moments when we get shaken up physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. The feelings of insecurity make us lose our self-control. Certain bodily weaknesses crop up and disturb us intensively. Sometimes we become over-conscious and over-influenced by our emotions and may sink into utter confusion.

But joust looks into a tiny machine like a computer. It has its set innate purpose. It has to perform only the desired function, nothing more, nothing less. And if it finds any information extra or lacking it gives a signal and the programmer cannot proceed further unless and until it clarifies the error or lack of information by searching its path. In the same way after identifying one’s own self, one needs to set goals and priorities that are befitting to them. Then one should be able to set and control the ‘self’ and success will be ours.

Self-control is the very elixir of human self and character building. A man without self-control is like a ship without a rudder that cannot resist the waves of the current and keeps floating when the wind blows. He does not have any control over his thoughts, ideas, and decision. Thus having self-control is important otherwise life at every single moment will be challenging.

SPIRITUAL-SELF

Prayer is unimaginable power. It is that enriching experience that provides abundant willpower and courage to deal with our daily problems. Man is not made up of body and mind alone but an integral part is embedded in us, which is the principal part called the “spirit”.

Why do we pray, fast, and meditate? All these practices enable us to control our growth of the spirit and direct our life to be worthy ones. As physical growth is essential for the various needs of our body, spiritual growth and control are important for knowledge and coping with physical problems.

In the Gita 6:24 it is written: “The man who longing, abandoning all desires, he attains peace.”

SELF-KNOWLEDGE

One of the goals of counseling is to help the student to discover themselves, to look into their own inner private world, and to collect information about themself, to have a realistic knowledge about everything related to them. In this way, the student will revise his distortions and alter his behavior in a positive direction. With correct and concrete information about their real self, they will be able to solve their own problems. Thus the process of counseling should lead the individual on the path of Self-Knowledge, self-realization, and self-help.

Self-knowledge: most important sort of knowledge

Acquiring knowledge about everything is important no doubt, but the most critical one is having knowledge about inner-self. Without knowing about own weaknesses and strengths it is almost impossible for any individual to work on themself. The institutions and people concerned educating students and young minds should focus more on educating people to study introspect what is there in their own self including their interests, disinterests, weaknesses, strengths, principles, etc.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Though it is considered as one of the superficial components of one’s personality, yet it is one of the major components. The impression one has when one looks at others makes a long-lasting impression. For the people try to look at us and through us. Each person is supposed to appear according to his position and status in society.

There is a particular code of measure even for dressing depending on the place, occasion, position, and status. Some people try to show off more than what they are or what they should be. People don’t consider them possessors of a good personality, instead, they criticize them.

Be what you’re.

A principal of a school and the peon working in the same institution have different kinds of clothes appropriate for their place and status. But even then both can possess a good personality in their own way, style, and standard of life. Personality does not progress in becoming like others or limiting others, but it grows n trying to be what we are and to project the best in whatever position we are.

Make a statement wherever you go

Why do people like to select a particular type of outfit for interviews, marriages, parties, etc.? It is only because these are the prime extrinsic factors that judge our personality. You should be how you’re supposed to be, neither more than required nor less than it. It is necessary to carry ourselves nicely. It is not only about looks but appearance includes the whole of personality.

SELF-IMAGE AND PERSONALITY

Self-image and personality are two inseparable parts. Actually self is about the impression that we pose on others about ourselves. It is the central dominating and influencing component of one’s personality. Self-image is the concrete conscious awareness of our own self concerning all phases of one’s life, i.e., personal, social, intellectual, mental, and spiritual phases.

Our personality directly or indirectly depends on our acceptance of our image. If we accept and love ourselves, then we will possess a warm and pleasing personality, resulting in adjusting and being able to survive in society. Bernard Shaw once observes, “keep yourself clean and bright for you are the window through which you see the world.”

Because Self-acceptance is IMPORTANT

Society, the people around us, the people with us all impose their identity, feelings, emotions, and mentality into our individuality which may prove beneficial or fatal for our personality. A well-balanced self-image is one of the essentials of a well-balanced personality.

We all are different, we all are unique and that uniqueness of ours makes us beautiful and perfect incorporated with imperfections. We need to accept ourselves more than we focus on others’ validation.

Braille

The most important medium used in education today is the printed word. Knowledge is preserved in books and the first step in education is learning to read. But a blind man cannot read a book. is he then to be denied opportunities to educate himself? No, not necessarily so. The blind can get themselves educated, not only in the sense of being able to read and write but even in the sense of training themselves for the profession. Teachers of the blind have devised methods by which the blind can ‘read’ books without the aid of the eyes. The most famous of these methods is, undoubtedly, Braille.

Braille script

Braille ( named after its inventor ) is a system of representation of printed symbols by raised dots on a flat surface. Six dots in various combinations are used to represent letters, numbers, punctuation marks, and some common words. The blind person ‘reads’ the boo by passing his fingers over the dots. Thousands of blind people all over the world have used Braille to educate themselves. A book in Braille is not so compact or handy as compared to any other book. The size makes it difficult for people to use Braille as easily as printed books.

To overcome the difficulties, a new method has been introduced in recent times. The American Association for the Blind made ‘Talking books’ or long-playing discs with recordings of books. The popularity of talking books and tape recording is steadily increasing, and governments and private agencies have come forward to support the effort to produce them and make them available to people who need them.

MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES

The work of the farmer depends almost entirely on the weather which is an uncertain factor; he has accordingly, bright sunshine. So the farmer has to be on the alert to get his hay in, while the weather is favorable, lest it should be ruined by rain and mist.

Opportunity: make it count!

In an extended sense, the difficulties of the farmer are like the difficulties of all people, no matter what their walks of life ( maybe ). Like the weather, life and health are uncertain; opportunities rarely occur and never repeat themselves.

Do it ! Win it !

When an opportunity offers itself, man must seize it and use it to the best advantage. Otherwise, he gets ruined like the negligent farmer whose hay is destroyed by a change in weather. The man who takes things easy postpones till tomorrow what he should do today, suffers heavily like the one who does not strike while the iron is hot. It is, therefore, necessary to make use of favorable opportunities. While we have health & the means, against a day when we may be deprived of one or the other, or both.

A ROLLING STONE GATHERS NO MOSS

It is a matter of common knowledge that a stone that has been lying long in one place exposed to rain and sun, gathers moss, while a rolling stone gathers no moss. In the same way whoever works with steadiness and perseverance in one place is likely to gather experience and prosper, while one who is getting easily discontented often moves from one place to another or changes his occupation, stands to lose, and proves a failure in life. In the first place, he loses the friends, good name, and influence he gained and deprives himself of the benefits of service and experience he put in; in the second place, he finds it an uphill task to establish himself half so well in a new place or in the new employment.

Befuddled & at the same time haphazard.

The maximum lays emphasis on the benefits of steadiness, patience, and perseverance; it must not however be supposed that it entirely forbids change of place or calling under all circumstances. When one is sure that a change will be advantageous, it is worth effecting the change. There are instances to show that such changes enable men to make their fortune.

Once a wise man said

Life is full of uncertainties but that doesn’t mean one should get carried away by those challenges. Patience is an important characteristic especially in an era like the present and an individual must know how to all square themselves while being in a difficult situation.

THE WONDERS OF SCIENCE

Science can be explained as the systematic knowledge of natural or physical phenomena.

We live in an age of science. Perhaps men have more faith in science today than Greeks had in their gods in ancient times. We talk about it more than we talk about ourselves. To an ignorant man, science is a deity that performs astonishing deeds; to a wise man it is a maid-servant who acts according to his own sweet will, and to an ordinary man, it is a wonder of wonders.

Science plays a great role in our life today. It has completely changed our outlook and ways of life. Science helps us and stands at our command in every sphere of our activities. Nowadays nothing can be done without science.

Science has enabled man to conquer the force of nature. For instance, science has provided very swift means of travel and communications. The steam engine, the motor car now the airplane have almost annihilated time and space. Today man can fly like birds, he can swim like fish in the sea.

The wonderful invention of wireless telegraphy helps us to send messages in the twinkling of an eye from one corner of the world to another. The value of wireless telegraphy is best seen in moments of trouble.

Wireless has led to the use of the radio, which is quickly becoming a means of education. Of late, a further improvement, known as television has been made. The radio brings us only the voice of the people but the television enables us to see these people on the screen as well.

Inventions and discoveries of science have also revolutionized agriculture, industry, medicine, surgery, and education.

The wonders of science are equally manifested in medicine and surgery. Wonderful medicines like penicillin and streptomycin have been invented to check and cure the most dangerous diseases.

These are some of the glories and wonders of science. Scientists are the backbone of modern civilization.

Hobbies

The word ‘hobby’ is derived from “hobby horse”, which is a stick fitted with s wooden horse’s head, which children ride astride for their amusement. We still talk of man ‘riding’ his hobby. So a hobby is an amusement, properly it is an interesting pursuit, not our main business which we take up for our amusement in our leisure time. What is a business to a man may have gardening as his hobby; and a gardener may have photography as recreation.

Gardening

There are different kinds of hobbies. Many take the form of collecting in some form. Collecting postage stamps is a common hobby in England, not only with boys but with men too. Some make collections of wildflowers and ferns and press and mount their specimens. Others take an interest in geology and find much amusement in collecting fossils.

Other hobbies take the form of games and sports. Many take up open-air games, like golf, tennis, cricket or football, or indoor games such as chess, draughts, and cards as their hobbies while hunting or fishing or matching are the favorite recreations of others.

Fishing and having whale of a time.

Many people find great pleasure and interest in gardening; especially in cultivating some special flowers, like roses. And boys especially like keeping pets, such as dogs, rabbits, and fowls.

Everyone, young and old, should have a hobby of some sort for his leisure hours; for it adds to the pleasure of life. It is often an education in itself, and it fills our vacant hours with interest. It gives us also something to fall on when our business days are over in the leisure time at the end of life.
