The unheard cry of manual scavengers

Democracy is not merely a form of Government…It is essentially an attitude of respect and reverence towards fellowmen.”

The above words were uttered by an impeccable leader, who stood against colonisation bravely, Leader, ‘B.R Ambedkar’ Which is perfectly suitable for a cruel system of manual scavenging which still engages in a democratic country like India.

Manual scavenging is an inhuman act of making lower caste people clean drainages, public and private toilets and open drains which are contained with human excretion. As brutal as it sounds, this practice has been engaging since a very long period of time in numerous parts of south Asia, mainly in India.

The fact that this kind of malpractice is only said to be done by lower caste people who are termed as so-called, ‘untouchables’ is completely devastating. Lower caste people are designated as colonised and leveled at the very bottom of an hierarchical scale created by upper caste groups, for lower caste groups to do odd jobs like manual scavenging or cleaning human waste.

This designation of lower caste people by higher caste groups, causes preconceived notions among individuals that they are ‘unclean’ and creates extensive bias perpetually.

The first initiative to restrict manual scavenging in India, was taken in 1993 by the Indian government in order to forbid employment of manual scavengers and construction of dry latrines. In fact ever since India’s independence in 1947, legislative assembly and government reinforced policies to end the practice of manual scavenging and therefore rationalisation of sanitising and prohibition of engaging any individual to practise manual scavenging was enforced to restrain disposal Human feces.

Although numerous enforcement of acts against manual scavenging was initiated, due to lack of implementation of laws and lack of awareness among people, they remained manual scavengers. However, a survey reports that several women faced threats when they refrained from cleaning toilets in the households they served in order to gain for their families. As compensation for leaving, they were said to be evicted and lose access to the land and resources they own. It’s claimed that some women were threatened with violence when they turned down on manual scavenging.

Currently, a new amendment reinforced in 2021 adding to the 1993 act and 2013 act as a further step by demanding proper mechanisation and legal basis for punishment, if an individual forces a person to practise manual scavenging. Hoping for a vast improvement and change in deprivation of lower caste people performing jobs like manual scavenging at least after this new amendment brought by the Indian government against any kind of malpractice.

Few recommendations and suggestions to restrain manual scavenging

  • Strict laws to prevent people from practising such inhumane acts should be implemented.
  • Severe actions against members  threatening and intimidating people for refraining themselves from manual scavenging should be taken immediately.
  • Enforce amendments against free government officials who themselves hire people as manual scavengers.

No human is superior to anyone and human is inferior to anyone. In my opinion, I believe every human deserves reverence and basic human rights to live peacefully. Nobody deserves to clean another human’s excreta and get treated in the utmost submissive state. The number of consequences caused by being in contact with human feces frequently is inevitable and creates numerous issues and diseases which are cruel. Deprivation of lower caste people by higher caste people is still engaging in many parts of South Asia for a long time.

Anticipating a good democratic nation without zero discrimination and provision of equal rights to every individual.

Overcoming failure

Each one of us has failed at least once in some aspect of our lives. But that is never the end, you must try again. But, if the particular field that you failed in, does not interest you and you are doing it because of peer pressure only, then you should find something else that interests you and someday you will succeed in that field. What some people may consider success other people may consider failure so it depends on person to person and their ideology of success and failure.

Sometimes the fear of failure stops us from even trying something for the first time. For example, some kids who might have been rejected at school competitions may feel the fear of failure for the rest of their lives. Some people are not able to cope up with failure and they choose to drop that field forever, that happens because a fear of failure develops in them. They fear the judgment of society, and society does not help much, there are more people to discourage you than people who encourage you. But, you need to see that these people do not matter, you must ignore them and move on with your journey.

When you think that you should quit because you failed once or twice, you should think positively, and imagine the scenario where you achieve your goal in the next try. Give it a try once again, what could be the worst outcome?

Play practically, you should always have a backup plan too. If you are giving it your last try then plan B will make you feel more secure and safe that even if you fail you will have another plan. Set smaller goals, it will help you in achieving your final goal more efficiently.

When you experience the fear of failure, you procrastinate a lot, your anxiety levels are increased and you become reluctant to try new things. However, if your goal is important to you, you must not give up on it no matter how many times you have failed, no matter how many people say negative things to you.

SOME QUOTES BY FAMOUS PEOPLE TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER:

  1. “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” —Thomas Edison
  2. “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.” —Albert Einstein
  3. “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” —Winston Churchill
  4. “Success is most often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable.” —Coco Chanel
  5. “Failure after long perseverance is much grander than never to have a striving good enough to be called a failure.” —George Eliot
  6. “When you take risks, you learn that there will be times when you succeed, and there will be times when you fail, and both are equally important.” —Ellen DeGeneres
  7. “It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.” —Bill Gates

Pets: A Blessing

Pets can be someone’s best friend. A pet makes a home more cheerful. Just like the way a baby brings happiness, in the same way a pet can also bring joyfulness to the owner’s life.

A pet can be a good partner for someone living alone in their houses or apartments. Nowadays many people keep a pet so that they do not feel lonely. A pet can cut off the loneliness in a people’s life. Also, we can see that today most of the families are nuclear, so a pet in a nuclear family is a much needed member. The kids sometimes feel alone as their parents due to their works cannot give much time to their children so in that case a pet can be a partner for the kid with whom the child can spend time and not feel lonely.

Dogs are so sensible and intelligent that if they see that their owner is upset or had a bad day, they caresses their owners just to make them happy. A pet plays with their owners and this makes both the pet and the owner physically fit.

Playing with the pets and spending time with them are a great way of staying happy. A pet removes all the stresses and sadness of the family members. The pets also become a member of the family. They are taken care of in the same way like a baby would have been taken care of. Kids and pets are a great pair. They enjoy each other’s company.

Keeping a pet is very good as it gives both physical and emotional benefits. Going on a walk with a dog is both beneficial for the owner as well as the dog because it provides social interaction and freshenes and a little bit of exercise to both of them. A pet’s company can provide the level of happiness despite the presence of depression or anxiety.

Having a pet may also help people gain health goals, such as lowered blood pressure, and mental health also increases. They do not make us feel that we are lonely. There can be different types of pets like dogs, cats, cows, horses etc. Sometimes these pets can bring money to their owners. The milk from the cows become a source of income for their owners. The horses can be given for races which becomes a way of income for their keepers.

Thus having a pet is a blessing. They give happiness to us more than anyone else can give. They are the best companion for anyone. Spending time with them are a great way of living life happily.

TALAQ TALAQ TALAQ : Law and her

Triple talaq additionally referred to as talaq-e-hiddat, is a shape of immediate Islamic divorce which has been practiced via way of means of Indian Muslims The exercise of immediate triple talaq changed into held unconstitutional via way of means of the Honorable Supreme Court in August 2017 The use and standing of triple talaq in India has been a topic of controversy and debute. Those wondering the exercise have raised problems of justice, pender equality. human rights and secularism. The debate has worried the Government of India and the Supreme Court of India, and is attached to the talk approximately a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) stated in Article forty four of the Constitution of India. In July 2019, the Parliament of India declared the exercise of triple talaq as illegal. unconstitutional and made it a punishable act In fact, many nations throughout the globe have already banned the triple talaq Islamic international locations that have banned the triple talaq consist of Pakistan, Indonesia, Egypt. Turkey and Bangladesh amongst many others.

Triple talaq ban: saviour or stunt

After many controversies and a lengthy debate, the Triple Talaq Bill cleared the Rajya Sabha hurdle and finally The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019, became law on 31st July 2019, replacing all earlier ordinances. The Supreme Court declared the practice of instant triple talaq unconstitutional and a divorce pronounced by uttering talaq three times in one sitting. including in written or electron le form void and illegal. This is being seen as a major political win of the Narendra Modi government.

The law makes the declaration of talaq a cognizable offence, attracting up to three years’ imprisonment with a fine. In simple terms, a cogniza ble offence is one for which a police officer may arrest an ac cused person without warrant. The offence will be cognizable if information relating to the offence is given by the married woman (against whom talag talag has been declared) or any per son related to her by blood or marriage. The government has instituted the law in the name of justice gender equality hu

The Act makes use of the phrase talaq all through its provisions however restricts its that means through defining the phrase as “talaq-e-bidat or some other comparable shape of talaq having the impact of immediately and irrevocable divorce”. This definition covers the so-referred to as triple talaq — wherein a husband says that he’s giving “3 talaqs” to his wife, or repeats the phrase talaq thrice — as additionally what is understood withinside the conventional Muslim regulation as a “unmarried irrevocable divorce” wherein the husband publicizes he can not revoke the talaq he’s pronouncing. These are the types of divorce which textbooks on Muslim regulation describe as practices “awful in theology however appropriate in regulation” — a humorous proposition, indeed. A constitutionally secular united states isn’t certain to defend through regulation even what’s “appropriate in theology” — of course, theology of any community. It is naive to assume it to legally put in force what’s admittedly “awful in theology” in a specific community’s theology.

The affect that the Act has repealed the Muslim regulation on divorce via way of means of husbands in its entirety isn’t always correct. Its provisions are limited of their impact to talaq-e-bidat, the 2 varieties of that have been noted above. The right manner of divorce via way of means of guys as prescribed via way of means of the Quran and different actual reassets of Muslim regulation stays unaffected via way of means of the Act. Nor does the Act have an effect on in any feel the provisions of Muslim regulation on divorce at the example of girls or via way of means of the spouses’ mutual consent.

Whether a person has reported a talaq as in keeping with actual Muslim regulation or in violation of its precepts might be a count number to be proved via way of means of evidence. In the previous case, the Act will now no longer practice. In the latter case it will, and should, practice with all its vigour.

India current situation

22 nations including Pakistan and Iran have abrogated Triple Talaq either unequivocally or certainly. It is normally accepted that strict minorities in a nation are hesitant to changes, perhaps on the grounds that they feel that adjustment in their own laws may push their religion to a spot where their strict character would be in question. In India, this can be unmistakably seen and subsequently it has consistently been hard to change individual laws particularly with regards to strict minorities. However, taking the case of Sri Lanka here, just 10% of its populace is Muslim still, it struck down moment Triple Talaq in 2006 through a change to Sri Lanka’s Marriage and Divorce (Muslim) Act, 195.

Conclusion

India is an assorted nation where each religion has its significant and has the privilege to proceed with its practices. Muslims are the biggest minorities in India and have been given different advantages to follow their religion and not will undoubtedly do anything which against their religion or something which they are not permitted to do.Thus, it can be concluded that making of Triple Talaq as unconstitutional or void was a big step taken by both legislature and judiciary. It was a dream come of true for the women who were sufferer of its misuse. It was used by people as a toy and used to type “talaq” word 3 times through any means be it oral, written or electronic form and thus turned they customs according to themselves without taking into consideration the rights of women. “Talaq” or “Divorce” as in Hindu law is to be the last resort and cannot be taken merely on a trivial wear and tear of the marriage. Also, the recent trends show that even after being declared as unconstitutional and void people are still using it illegally.

Biotechnology and the humanity

Biotechnology is a rapidly changing field that continues to transform both in scope and impact. Karl Ereky first coined the term biotechnology in 1919. However, biotechnology’s roots trace back to as early as the 1600s when a Prussian physician, Georg Ernst Stahl, pioneered a new fermentation technology referred to as “zymotechnology.” In 1981, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) defined biotechnology as, “the application of scientific and engineering principles to the processing of materials by biological agents to provide the goods and services.” Today, the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) defines biotechnology as “technology based on biology – biotechnology harnesses cellular and biomolecular processes to develop technologies and products that help improve our lives and the health of our planet. Concurrent with the collection of personal data, we are also amassing a mountain of biological data (such as genomics, microbiome, proteomics, exposome, transcriptome, and metabolome). This biological-big-data coupled with advanced analytical tools has led to a deeper understanding about fundamental human biology. Further, digitization is revolutionizing health care, allowing for patient reported symptoms, feelings, health outcomes and records such as radiographs and pathology images to be captured as mineable data.

LIFE LESSONS FROM COVID-19

Everybody was stuck in shock when we all heard about CORONAVIRUS. But we didn’t think that it would have such a worst impact on our lives. In fact, we didn’t realize its seriousness at first. When the coronavirus slowly started to spread all over our country, we started to realize the seriousness. As we all know, due to the pandemic, the whole of India was kept shut for many days. Every company went through its worst phase. Gradually, we accepted the scenario and started doing the unthinkable. Schools started taking classes online, IT and other companies functioned through work from home and many others remained pathetic not knowing what to do. Many families couldn’t get enough money for daily necessities. Moreover, they had to spend more than normal for the pandemic made us spend more on medicines and sanitation. With all these, on one hand, we got to learn a lot of new things.

First, we learned to spend time with our family. Before the pandemic, we would live in our own way. We don’t spend time without family. We had our own reasons like returning home after tight schedules either from school, college, or work, and even after that, we had certain tasks to be accomplished. We would spend most of our time in the outside world and only had time to freshen up and relax ourselves to start off the next day. Due to this lockdown, we were not allowed to step out of our houses which made us spend quality time with our family. Also, by this, we realized the value of family and relationships. Not only this, we learned to value life. We realized that life is the biggest gift one has been bestowed with. After losing our loved ones, and seeing our near and dear losing their loved ones, we started being grateful for being alive at least. These were the biggest lessons life taught us through this pandemic.

Lockdown restricted us from using vehicles and this paved the way to reduce air pollution. Now, we see and hear that our EARTH is healing. Holes in the Ozone layer are disappearing. As a result, the environment changed in a good way. We are now released from breathing the poisoned air and the quality of the air has increased.

Another one, we started believing in our natural Indian medicine. Although we have many allopathy medicines for boosting immunity, we all made decoctions using Tulsi leaves, turmeric, pepper, ginger, lemon, honey, and so on. These were the traditional medicines prescribed by our ancestors to prevent our bodies from a virus attack. Literally, every good thing which was ignored before was given place and priorities. As time went by, we started to know how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and good hygiene. We started eating healthy food to sustain this pandemic. We all realized the importance of regular exercises and yoga. They create such a beautiful impact on our bodies. We learned one main lifesaving thing which is very much essential no matter whatever the situation may be, positivity. Positivity plays a crucial role in our life behind the scenes. Researches show that positivity helps in increasing the chances of recovery from any disease. It makes us feel good, boosts our energy and confidence. It is said to enhance mental productivity and inner strength.

We explored the new side of ours. We got to know more about ourselves and self-love and care. Last but not the least, we all understood the pain and struggles of spending our whole life inside the house as faced by all the housewives and mothers only when we were forced to confine ourselves inside the four walls of the house. We started sharing household chores and other work equally with our family. This definitely gave our mothers some relaxation for which they earned for many days.

Going by the quote, “Every evil has its good and every ill an antidote”, we also had many good things that happened in this pandemic. All I would say is be happy with all the goodness around us and stop complaining about the problems.

Emotions

An emotion is a reaction to something that happens to us, which stirs us up. Love, affection, desire, fear, anger, hatred, grief, etc. are felt tendencies that involve our minds and bodies and our total personalities. Everyone has emotions and as we grow we learn and experience it.

Emotions direct our thoughts and thoughts direct our emotions. There are soft emotions like kindness, sympathy, compassion whereas hatred, bitterness, murder, jealousy can be called as hard emotions. Some are also called negative emotions which include fear, anxiety, depression, sadness, etc. obviously there are positive emotions like happiness, peace, hope, etc.

We need to manage our emotions in our life. Sometimes our emotions in a situation can lead to bad conditions. The first step is to recognize and identify the emotions what we are experiencing. Then we must see how that emotion affects our health, happiness, personal relationships and our studies. After that we must try our control our emotions according to the circumstances.

Let us try to have positive emotions in our life which increases our health too.

equity not manhating

Feminism is just another word for equality. As we all know feminism is being criticized on favoring women over men. It means mass empowerment. It’s  men being aware of the need for women empowerment. All sexes being treated the same under the same roof. Being independent irrespective of whatever you are. No matter what sex, race, religion, caste, creed, status anyone is they all have the same right to enjoy the facilities provided. Who says feminism is just women empowerment? It is the collective empowerment of the people.  It’s the word that stands proudly against inequality and injustice. It is the key to freedom and individuality.

“Feminism is the radical notion that women are human beings.”

 Cheris Kramarae

Speaking about my country, it’s far below in feministic thoughts. As I have already mentioned, most people thinks it as something against man. This is just because of the misconception prolonging on the very word. There was one incident where a famous television show anchor said that she supports equality but not feminism. How pathetic isn’t it? Its high time human beings define the word perfectly. Women are still below in many areas. Decisions in women’s lives are still made by men either husband, father or their own sons. The complexity of the statement kills itself. And to my surprise there are a large percentage of women those nurture themselves as well their children to stay under men in all aspects of life excluding sacrifice. At the same time I shouldn’t be neglecting the fact that seeds of changes are sprouting in the desert.

anti sexist movement
Anti-sexist movement spreading throughout the world

Furthermore, I have seen people opposing feminism as disapproval of the idea of women and men are the same. Women and men aren’t the same and the very prospect of feminism isn’t sameness, rather it is equality. Sameness means look alike but equality isn’t look alikeness its equal say and being treated the same. Empowerment isn’t women-only term as life isn’t for copulation only. As a conclusion, I would like to quote that development isn’t possible without feminism.

RAJASTHAN- THE LAND OF KINGS AND COLOUR

THE GREAT RAJASTHAN

Rajasthan is the largest state of India and Jaipur is the capital of this state. Its area is 342,239km square. In the past, what is now Rajasthan were partly part of the Vedic Civilization and Indus Valley Civilization.  By population Rajasthan is the 7th largest state of India. It is located on the north-west side of India. Its big attraction is the GREAT INDIAN DESERT.

Rajasthan is actually “the land of kings”. The history of Rajasthan is 5000 years old. According to history Rajasthan is found in a stone inscription of 625 AD. In the 9th century, Rajasthan was grabbed by the “Rajput” royal family. So, we must say that it is the land of Rajput. In Rajput rulership there was much improvement in Rajasthan, the landmark was growing in their rulership. If anybody stroll along the path of Rajasthan they can see the magical historical building, sculpture, fort, temple which were built by the Rajput kingdom. But over the centuries the Rajput kingdom divided into 21 dynasties and 36 Rajput clans.

After that in 10th century Rajasthan was grabbed by the “Chouhan” emperor but their rulership was not for long as “Rajput”. In 1192 AD the Prithvi raj Chauhan was defeated by Muslim sultan and concurred some part of the state.

In the early 13th century AD, there was the most powerful and prominent seat which was “Mewar”. In the modern period (1707-1947 AD) Rajasthan had never been united politically until its domination by Mughal Emperor but Mughal Emperor started to decline after 1707 AD. After the decline of Mughal Emperor, there was political disintegration by the dismemberment of Mughal Empire. After the decline of the Mughal Emperor the “Marathas” infiltrated in Rajasthan. In 1755 Marathas occupied Ajmer.

Rajasthan is a damn beautiful place. It is culturally rich and the culture has a touch of great tradition which is a reflection of ancient Indian way of life. There is a “folk culture” in the village which is a cultural symbol of the state. Their traditional folk dance is Ghoomar or Ghumar. Also, folk music is a part of Rajasthani culture, which is sung by Manganhar and Longa communities.

It is true that Rajasthan is well known for their traditional culture but there is also one more attractive feature which is the colorful art like block prints, tie and dye prints, Gota patto, Bagru print, Sanganer Prints and Zari embroidery. Their crafts are beautiful.

Rajasthan’s main festivals are Navaratri, Deepawali, Holi, Gangur, Teej, Gogaji, Janmashtami etc. In winter there is a desert festival in Rajasthan.

Tourism industry is the major income source of Rajasthan. Jaipur – the pink city is situated here. The foreign travelers are too attracted to Rajasthan. The main travel places are- Jaipur, temples of Rajsamand, Pali, the lakes of Udaipur, the sand dunes of Jaisalmer and Bikaner, Mandawa and Fatehpur, Dungarpur, Banswara, Pushkar etc. “Sonar Kella “which is the name of the famous fort of Jaisalmer is the big attraction of Rajasthan. The name “Sonar Kella ” was given by the great Bengali filmmaker Satyajit Ray for his movie named “Sonar Kella ”.

Jaipur’s Jantar Mantar, Mehrangarh Fort, Stepwell, Dilwara temples, Chittor Fort, etc are the tourist spots. Desert’s camel ride is the most interesting thing.

MENTAL PEACE

We are human, and we look at happiness and peace everywhere around us , and also in another human being. But the Self Mental Peace come from the inner side.

Mental peace refers to the deliberate state of spiritual calm and the potential of stressors such as the burden arising from pretending to perform at an optional level with a positive mind (inner peace). Peace of mind is generally associated with joy, happiness, calmness, prayer, yoga, meditation etc. many spiritual practices refer to this peace as an experience of knowing oneself. But we all know that inner peace is important to mental health. The human beings who are mentally strong are confident that they can handle whatever life throws their way.

The people you surround yourself with affect the way you think, feel and behave. Mentally strong people don’t waste their time or energy trying to change toxic people. They established healthy emotional and physical boundaries.

These people take appropriate accountability. They recognize the responsibility for their choice, but they acknowledge factors beyond their control like the state of the economy, the weather and other people’s choice.

Mentally strong people are willing to put in the hard work it takes to gain contentment. They refuse to give in to instant gratification or temporary attachment. They look for ways to build a brighter future by creating long term goals. People face their fear, venture into unknown areas and test their limits. They know that being uncomfortable is tolerable and allowing themselves to experience discomfort is the key to living a better life.

Finally, further reflection on the nature of basic human needs in relationship to self and identity can provide the means to address the most deep rooted of inner conflicts. Just find inner peace and unwrap your best self.

How to get mental peace:-

Connect with something larger than yourself. There are several theories that emphasize the need for balance to produce wellness in our lives. An aspect of that theory includes spiritual wellness. Spiritual wellness promotes tranquility and harmony within yourself and within your life and is essential for mental wellness. This does not mean that you have to become religious if you aren’t; it means you must find something bigger than just yourself with which to connect. Try connecting to the awe of nature or outer-space, or in the bonds people form with each other. Finding something outside of yourself to connect with will help bring peace to your mind.

Find meaning in your everyday life. Spiritual wellness can also help you build on your understanding of your purpose in the world. This will help you find meaning in your everyday life  If you feel fulfilled with your contribution to the world, your mind will be more at peace. Actions that could help you build your understanding include connecting with others through volunteerism or finding other ways to help and serve others. You may also find meaning in other activities, such as taking care of your family or loved ones, or doing the best job you can at your place of employment.

Saying No Can Lead To A Happier Life

START SAYING NO!

We believe that we always have to say yes to opportunities. We fear that saying no leads us to miss out on money, fun, and other experiences. But by always saying yes, we don’t value our time.

Blindly we say yes to everything that comes our way. We often don’t look at saying “no” as a skill. If we are at work and our manager asks you to hand in a report before the end of the day, we say, “sure thing.” It interrupts our work, and we often have to push other things aside.

There was never any fear for me, no fear of failure. If I miss a shot, so what?
– Michael Jordan

We say yes in our personal lives all the time. When friends ask us to go out while we have other things to do, we say yes. We friends or acquaintances a favor, without thinking about it. We even say yes to bigger things that we don’t want. We take jobs we don’t like. We start relationships with people who we are not in love with.

Why do we do this? We are afraid to say no, to let people down, to avoid confrontation. The stress of saying no often makes us say yes automatically. And then we complain or blame ourselves, “why couldn’t I just say no.” And with relationships, we are afraid that if we turn down an opportunity to settle down, another one maybe won’t show up.

I see this often with relationships at work. You spend time with a person at work so often and if you feel physically attracted to each other it easy to start a relationship. If you start a relationship, you cannot ‘kind of’ want it. No, you should be in love. Saying yes doesn’t always make you happy.

Other People’s Expectations

Learning to say no can save us a lot of time and stress. While we are afraid that we have to let people down, the opposite is true. People will start respecting you more when you start saying no. People perceive that as a strong character trait.

It’s time to stop doing things to live up to other people’s expectations. You don’t have to do things you don’t like. If you don’t start saying no, and keep doing things you don’t want to do, you begin to dislike the person you are trying to please. Saying no is not only for your benefit but actually by saying no, you are thinking about other people as well.

If you say yes to a night out with your spouse and you don’t feel like it, you probably won’t be in a great mood. It’s not fair for your spouse if you are not present mentally. If you rather go out the next day because you are tired tonight, say so. Your partner will respect you for that. If she doesn’t, we have to explain why we say no. And encourage them to say no when they don’t want to do something as well.

Conforming to other people expectations can impact your life’s outcome. When you say yes to one night out, when you don’t feel like it, doesn’t have huge life consequences. But sometimes it is about choices that will influence our life outcome. When parents expect their children to go to university, the children often give into that.

We are all unique and have things we want from life, asking people to do something they don’t like is not fair. If you don’t wish to go to university because of a good reason, then don’t. We have to follow our passion and make our own path.

Say No To Noise

We should say no to everything that is noise. Greg Mckeown, writes in his book Essentialism about how the ‘disciplined pursuit of less’ allows us to regain control over our choices. Mckeown says that many successful people in history were ‘essentialist’, people who can separate the essential from the non-essential in life. Saying no is a way of showing what you consider ‘essential’ by saying no to everything that is noise.

About the importance of saying no, Mckeown says, “ yet as hard as it can be to say no to someone, failing to do so can cause us to miss out on something far more important.” When we have a purpose in life, everything that doesn’t contribute to our purpose, becomes noise.

When we want to live a stress-free life, we have to choose “no”. Saying blindly yes to invitations from our colleagues, friends or family causes us stress. We often regret saying yes for days. We worry about damaging our relationships. We worry that we burn bridges. We worry about what people would think if we say no. We live in an abundant world. By saying no you don’t miss anything. The world is filled with opportunity and beauty.

We think we are not good friends or colleagues when we say no. You’re not a bad person when you say no. Once we start saying no, we lose the fear of disappointing people and find out that it wasn’t that hard. We find that we replace the noise with silence and clarity. We enjoy the things we do say yes to more. We become more present and happy.

What Idiots Can Teach You About Life

IDIOTS ARE NOT STUPID! BELIEVE OR NOT!

Have you ever met an idiot and thought “What an idiot?” Well, don’t be so quick to judge — idiots can teach you a lot about life.

A few years ago I went to Shangai. When I boarded the plane in Amsterdam, I met a first class idiot as soon as I stepped foot on the aircraft.

When I got to my seat, the overhead bin was already full, so I had to store my bag on the other side. But when I tried to do that, an idiot came from nowhere and started screaming at me. I didn’t understand him, but I got his message: “That’s my seat, and I want to store my bag there.”

I grabbed my bag, walked two rows down, asked the person who was sitting there if it was ok I placed my bag in his overhead bin; he said yes, I stored my bag, walked down to my seat, and sat down.

Was that difficult? No. Could the idiot have done that? Yes. He didn’t have to make a scene.

“People are surprised to find out that an awful lot of people think that they’re idiots.”
– Eric Schmidt

In my life, I’ve had many other encounters with people that had bad behavior — let’s call them idiots.

You know what I’m talking about, right? Idiot bosses, coworkers, strangers, friends. Idiots do things that are not cool. It’s not bad to be an idiot — I sometimes do idiotic things, everyone does.

Dealing With Idiots

Is it cool to call people idiots? Yes, I call myself an idiot sometimes. People think they should only learn from successful people — billionaires, entrepreneurs, athletes.

But that’s not the only way to learn. How many billionaires and athletes do you know? We all know idiots. From them, we can learn how we should not behave.

Maybe someone at work stabs you in the back. Maybe your girlfriend cheats on you with your best friend. Maybe someone wants to start a fight with you. Maybe someone bullies you.

Without a doubt, people in your life have, or will, let you down. There’s no escaping that. What’s more important is your response. Do you become bitter about people? Do you think that all people are bad?

If someone does something bad to you, don’t see it as a reason to justify that behavior. For example, when I first started working for a major corporation, I noticed quickly that people accept backstabbing. You screw someone over on one day, and get promoted the next day.

Is that good? Is that bad? It’s neither, as Shakespeare put it: “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.”

However, it’s also not a ‘get out of jail free card’. We have to watch ourselves that we do not become what we despise. No one on this planet is born an idiot — we become one. So choose not to.

When people behave like idiots, don’t be offended, don’t take it personally, study them instead.

“Life is tough, but it’s tougher when you’re stupid.”
– John Wayne

I observe idiots doing bad stuff like cheat, lie, be aggressive, rude or anything else that is not ok to me. Then, I consciously decide to not be like them.

By observing behavior that you don’t want to associate yourself with, you will become clear on the type of person you do want to be.

Just answer to yourself: What is ok, and what isn’t? For example, stabbing people in the back for a promotion — not ok.

In the end, do whatever you think is right. Always make sure you do the right thing — but please, don’t be an idiot.
