How To Stop The Habit Of Negative Thinking

The further we let ourselves think negatively then the more we will think negatively and it will become all the more difficult to stop that thought pattern. However, thinking positively all the time is not the answer to defeating negative thinking. It is plausible to have fewer negative thoughts and reinterpret those thoughts in a more rational way.

The way to control negative thinking so that it would not become a bad attitude about life is to understand that negative, cynical, or disparaging thoughts are common among most individuals. Being harsh on oneself isn’t the answer, and neither is finding a good response to every negative thought. If you’ve had a bad day, you can state that it was a tough day. If you have a disagreement with somebody, you could be correct in believing that they have been treating you unfairly. We don’t have to make negative ideas unacceptably common.

But, if you realise that perhaps the majority of your recent thinking has been pessimistic and it is proving to be increasingly difficult to remain cheerful or positive, it may be time to attempt to put your thoughts into balance. You surely wouldn’t want to sour every scenario by dwelling on the negative attributes. If we let negative thoughts overwhelm us, we may find it more difficult to relax, be nice to others, and be appreciative of our life experiences.

Here are some ideas to help you keep negative thoughts under control:

Allow negative thoughts to come and go

Let yourself think negatively. Resist from retorting that you must not think that way. Recognize the notion, and then just let it go. Your thoughts do not represent you or your situation. Many individuals consider their thoughts as balloons that drift away as quickly as they are formed. You don’t really have to give every thought equal value or allow it to determine every prospective circumstance.

Be actively involved in your expression of appreciation

Whatever type of day you’re experiencing, make some time to reflect on some things you’re grateful for. It could be as simple as the cup of coffee you’re sipping or the fact that it’s Friday. If you practise gratitude even when you’re not struggling, then you will be able to recall what it was you were appreciative for when things go tough.

Avoid thinking in terms of all or nothing

Extreme thinking inhibits us from dealing with each circumstance on its own terms. The constant use of terms like “never” and “always” makes it difficult for us to understand that things change with time and that we really do not wish to foresee the future. Rather, use terms like “frequently” or “sometimes.”

Keep your expectations in check

We frequently anticipate situations to go a certain way and sometimes they don’t. We are then dissatisfied, which is quite natural. Which is why we should avoid placing too many precise expectations on a particular type of result that we cannot foresee. We don’t know whether or not relationships will pan out the way in which we want them to. We can’t be sure whether a job will be a good fit for us or not. Everything might appear to be going smoothly before something unexpected happens. When we have preconceptions about just how things are going to turn out, we are much less equipped for surprises.

Letting ourselves experience all of our emotions without turning them away ensures that even if we are dissatisfied, we understand everything will turn out just fine. We can withstand a circumstance even though we are upset, unhappy, or dubious about it. Allow your ideas to linger and be deliberate in appreciating the good in your life. You’ll find that you can manage anything and that your negativity now seems to be under control.

We all have unpleasant thoughts from time to time. We’re having an awful day, and it seems like the entire universe is conspiring against us. We start believing that everything is more difficult for us, that life is unjust, or that other people do not even have our best interests at heart.

The further we let ourselves think negatively then the more we will think negatively and it will become all the more difficult to stop that thought pattern. Female Foeticide: A Tragedies Social Evil

Female Foeticide is a curse which is still practiced in the undeveloped parts of India. As it’s a major problem its frequency is increasing rapidly with the passage of time. We live in a country where maximum people are hypocrites. We are the one who puts up slogans like “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” on the other end of the spectrum if a baby girl is born she is cursed and treated as a burden. Women are always criticized and considered inferior than man but the most brutal killing of females takes place frequently even before they are born. Female Foeticide is the process when the female fetus is aborted took place inside the womb of the mother with the intension of greed of getting the baby boy. Killing a girl inside the mother’s womb is a matter of shame and is a great offense. It is illegal in India but is still practiced in the rural areas.

Every woman marries with the dream of getting a sophisticated family and Childers. In reverse what they get is a family which constantly pressures the female to give birth to a male child. In India, pregnancy is always followed end number of question whether the unborn is baby girl or boy. India is filled with people who have the obsession for the male child where the baby boy is always the reason of joy, celebration and happiness contradictory to it when a girl is born she is considered as a matter of economic drain and will always be a matter of debts for the family. We usually think that such offence are practiced by the people of lower section of society but this statement is not always true as it was found that in several cases the people belonging to the luxurious classes shift from India to other country just to know the sex as its illegal in our country India. People have a orthodox thinking that if a boy is born he is considered as an investment for the family as he is the one who will support the household throughout but when a girl is born since her initial breathing she is considered as an economic liability as one day they will get married with massive dowry. We live in a patriarchal society where bring up a boy is not a big task but if we keep an eye in the condition of the society keeping a girl safe is a matter of big deal. Some outdated thinker says that that a boy can be the reason of betterment of the family. We can see massive number of women who are against the birth of girl child. But one thing which they don’t realized is they too were born as girls.

Female Foeticide is problems of underlying disorder in which people have the perception that bearing a daughter in a family doesn’t create any economic sense also do not provide any social advantages. We live in a biased society that always favor’s male child more than the female one and this is quite noticeable from the declining sex ratio which is rapidly increasing. Summing up with, every being is a creation of Almighty and is a gift for us. One should learn to respect each gender it doesn’t matter whether it’s a girl or a boy. We all are human being and supporting such illegal offense is against humanity.

EYE GLASSESS OR LENS ??

Whether you choose to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses for vision correction mostly depends on personal preferences. Lifestyle, comfort, convenience, budget and aesthetics should all factor comes into your decision-making process.

I can just say what is the pros and cons of each in order to make you analyze things in more systematic manner.

WHY EYEGLASSESS ?

Pros :

  1. Eyeglasses offer many benefits over contact lenses.
  2. They require very little cleaning and maintenance, you don’t need to touch your eyes to wear them .
  3. Glasses are cheaper than contact lenses in the long run since they don’t need to be replaced as often.
  4. They can adjust the amount of light entering your eye for optimum comfort and vision.
  5. Eyeglass lenses block 100% UV and protect not only the inside of the eye from UV, but the exterior of the eye and eyelids as well.
  6. Wearing glasses reduces the need to touch your eyes, which in turn reduces the likelihood of irritating your eyes or developing an eye infection.
  7. If you have dry or sensitive eyes, glasses won’t exacerbate the problem like contact lenses can.

Cons:

  1. Some people don’t like how they look in glasses and feel it detracts from their facial aesthetics or hides their features.
  2. Some frames can exert constant pressure on your nose and behind your ears, leading to headaches and general discomfort.
  3. Your vision can be obstructed or blurred when they fog up in cold weather.
  4. If you have a strong prescription, your glasses might make your eyes appear unnaturally minified or magnified.
EYE GLASSES

WHY LENS ?

Pros:

  1. Contacts conform to the curvature of your eye, providing a wider field of view and causing less vision distortions and obstructions
  2. Contact lenses don’t get in the way when playing sports and exercising.
  3. Contact lenses won’t clash with what you’re wearing.
  4. Contacts typically aren’t affected by weather conditions and won’t fog up in cold weather like glasses.
  5. If you want to see how you would look with a different eye color, you can experiment with color contact lenses.
  6. Some contact lenses can reshape your cornea while you sleep. Overnight orthokeratology (Ortho-k) temporarily corrects myopia, so you can see clearly the next day without the need for glasses or contacts.

Cons:

  1. If you work at a computer often, wearing contact lenses will likely contribute to symptoms of computer vision syndrome.
  2. Contacts require proper lens care and lens case cleaning each day, to avoid potentially serious eye infections.
  3. It doesn’t block UV rays as much as eyeglasses.
  4. If you accidentally fall asleep while wearing daily wear contacts, your eyes typically will be dry, gritty, red and irritated when you wake.
  5. Contact Lenses are costlier as it has to be changed periodically
  6. It doesn’t protect you from wind and dust instead it will make eye irritated.
  7. They don’t adjust light entering into your eye.

UNEMPLOYMENT IN INDIA

Unemployment is measured by counting individuals who are employable and actively seeking a job but are unable to find a job. This is how in general unemployment is defined but at ground reality unemployment should include anyone who is above 18 and not earning his/her livelihood on his own.At present, unemployment is a focal problem of most of the developing and underdeveloped countries of the world. In a nation like India, where 70% of the population is of youth, what are the causes of unemployment? There are many reasons. Some of them are:- Increasing population, seasonal occupation, joint family system, and slow growth of industrialization. What leads to highly unemployed youngsters is the sick mentality of the society about the type and level and status of position in the working field. People seek government jobs as it continues to pay even after retirement and after the death to the survivors. In India people have a biased mentality about the post of a working candidate.  A person who is working as a waiter, as a sweeper, as a clerk, as a guard, or as a servant are considered to be backward, beneath, and inferior. In a job, status and reputation should not matter.  What is important is the struggle and the efforts which a person is making to earn. Social norms, social pressure and status of your post is so dominant over the youngsters of the nation that after graduation they waste half a decade in preparation for examinations of various jobs and hence remain unemployed. This leads to an increase in unemployment. Another aspect of unemployment which one can analyse is rural vs urban. In remote village areas of the country very few people have their own land for agriculture and hence remain unemployed, moreover those who have land, all the members of family work on the same land, hence they are working but not being paid for it, same is applied to the family businesses, this is called as disguised unemployment. In urban areas, people don’t get opportunities to learn skills, and hence remain unemployed. We can look at unemployment from the perspective of public vs private sector. In the public sector, getting a job is tough because of improper functioning of administration, non-consistency in conduction of examinations and interviews, not announcing results for years, delay in training and recruitment, leading to unemployment among skilled, deserving, and eligible young workers of the nation. In the private sector  there is no permanent guarantee of the job. Today if an individual is hired, tomorrow he/she can be fired. This is called insecurity in jobs and hence people look towards government jobs. Within the last two years, 2020 and 2021, when the world was suffering from the Covid -19, India has faced a huge increase in unemployment. The unemployment rate in India, amidst lockdown and restrictions on mobility, is 12.81% as of June 8th 2021 based on the data provided by the CMIE. (Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy) In 2020, during pandemic about 1 crore people who were having job earlier lost the job and became unemployed. Many businesses and shops vanished and hence nowadays it is more critical to find a job for a recent graduate with no experience. Number of people looking for a job is increasing day by day, and simultaneously  opportunities are decreasing day by day, leading to a high increase in unemployment in the nation. Being unemployed or unemployment word is so negative and demotivating within itself, which can make an individual feel worthless Many times people so desperately want to earn a living but cannot do so, they try but remain empty handed, which affects their mental health and mental stability, leading to depression and sometimes they decide to kill themselves. According to a report in the Times of India newspaper, 1.3 lakh suicides have been reported in 2019 in India. This is a huge cause of concern for the country and it’s administration. What is the impact or consequences of unemployment on our nation? The most major one is the decrease in GDP rate, decrease in economic health of the nation, increase in poverty, excessive use of resources and no output to the nation at the same level i.e more consumption and less services given by the people to the nation. It’s very surprising to know that a 1 % increase in unemployment reduces the GDP by 2 % which is a cause of worry for the development of nation. Unemployment is the most serious problem an individual, a community, society and a nation faces, which should be resolved soon. This can be done by providing large opportunities, rising above social norms and sick mentality, improvement in working of administration, concern of the government, and the most important of all will power and determination of an individual who is able to work.

Kadambini Ganguly: India’s First Female Doctor.

160 years ago, on this day, July 18, Kadambini Ganguly was born in a Bengali family in Bhagalpur, Bihar. As a child, she was rebellious with regard to sexism and patriarchy and was very hard-working as a student.

Picture of Dr. Kadambini Ganguly.

During her childhood, she had witnessed that in her area many women used to die without treatment as women could not get proper treatment because all doctors were males and Indian social culture didn’t approve a male doctor treating a female patient. From here, she dreamt of becoming a doctor during her childhood.

However, things didn’t happen according to her. She was married off at young age and thus she thought her dreams would go down the gutter. But it was then her husband who supported her in every walk of her life. She did her schooling partly at Banga Mahila Vidyalaya and partly at Bethune School. In 1878, she became the first female to pass the University of Calcutta entrance examination.

Within few years, she became one of the first few female graduates in the country alongside Chandramukhi Basu. When she wanted to study medicine, she was denied admission by University of Calcutta as the university wasn’t allowing female students back then. Dwarkanath Ganguly, Kadambini Ganguly’s husband challenged this patriarchal rule and in 1883 Kadambini Ganguly was the first female to take admission in Calcutta Medical College.

Kadambini Ganguly received a scholarship of two years and in 1886 she was awarded the GBMC award and thus making her the first female to have a degree in Western Medicine in the whole of South Asia.

It is also important to note that during that time people didn’t approve a female getting education and as a result she received strong opposition regarding her academical choices from conservatives even from her neighbourhood and relatives.

Bangabashi, a magazine of that time that was run by the then conservatives also called her a “whore” and this obviously didn’t go well with the Ganguly couple. Dwarkanath Ganguly legally filed a court case against the magazine and this resulted in 6 months jail term for the editor of the magazine.

Kadambini Ganguly also went abroad for her studies and got her further education in Edinburgh College of Medicines for Women. She quickly earned three different diploma degrees. Soon, she became popular in entire South Asia and Europe. Her name became so popular that the then King of Nepal invited her to treat his ailing mother.

Kadambini Ganguly had even advocated for social change in India and especially for women. It was due to her efforts that Bethune College in Kolkata added the Fine Arts course in their college. She was also one of the six female delegates to fifth session in Indian National Congress and even organised Women’s Conference in 1906 in Calcutta.

Authors of that time described Kadambini Ganguly as one of the “greatest” and the “most accomplished woman” of her time. And truly, all of us agree to it. Because of courageous women like her, so many women in the world must have got inspired to achieve their dreams. Kadambini Ganguly will always remain immortal in all her hearts.

“THE ART OF KINTSUGI”

Having a simple life without any miseries is quite impossible. No one can live the life with full of happiness. There comes the time when one should go through all the things, no matter who they are and what they are.

I am always interested to learn different arts and culture of various countries ,among them I am always interested in japanese arts .Not only their arts but also their traditions ,their cultures has valuable meanings in it . So I came across this concept of ‘Kintsugi’ when I watched the video of Priya Malik from a poetry show ,immediately I googled this word to learn more about Kintsugi and I amazed after finding the hidden meaning behind it .

The Art of Kintsugi means ‘Golden repair’ ,it is the japanese art form and it comes under pottery repair method. Emphasizing not hiding the break but be proud to show the broken pieces in a unique and beautiful piece .This art form was evolved in 15th century by Ashikaga Yoshimasa .When his favorite tea cup was broken ,he felt too bad and he wants to repair that at any cost ,so he sent that broken piece to china to joint that broken piece but they failed in repairing that and again they sent it to japan .Ashikaga was too stubborn and he doesn’t give up on his precious thing which is broken ,so he ordered the japanese people to repair it ,at last after doing a lot of research they came across with a proper solution which repaired the cup into beautiful piece.

Eventually ‘The Art of Kintsugi ‘ has transformed to ‘The Art of Healing’ in this modern era .Just comparing our lives as broken piece ,we often broken our relationships at certain times due to some circumstances ,at that time we feel to heal ourselves .So this whole process of transforming the broken piece to beautiful piece gives the proper solutions to our broken heart .Giving a meaning that #brokenbutbeautiful .

Dont feel depressed ,anxious or sad when some tragedy happens to our lives .Time heals everything ,it has its own power .Just like a broken piece taken its own time to change into beautiful one.

Long live ‘NELSON MANDELA’

Nelson Mandela was born on 18 July 1918, at Umtata, Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. He is an iconic figure in today’s world when it comes to fighting for one’s rights as a human being. The son of a Xhosa Chief, Mandela studied law at the University of Witwatersrand, and in 1944 joined the African National Congress (ANC), After the Sharpeville massacre (1960), he was disillusioned to the extent that he gave up his non-violent stance and became one of those who helped found the Spear of the Nation, the ANC’s military wing. Arrested in 1962, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. The South African Court convicted him on charges of sabotage as well as other crimes committed while he led the movement against apartheid.

How is Nelson Mandela International Day celebrated?

Mandela provides service to others and always wants to create a better world for everyone. So, on this day if people find injustice in the neighbourhood, city, or state they do everything to alleviate the problem. Work in soup kitchens, marched with protesters, volunteer in local organisations, and work to help bring about civil liberties for everyone. Inspire change, and make every day a celebration of Mandela Day. People work for others and want to improve the lives of people around them. They will do this by volunteering or taking part in protests.

“After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb.”

This day provides a global call for people to recognise their ability and have a positive effect on others around them. People also inspire others about the values that Mandela shared like democracy, freedom, diversity, reconciliation, and respect. To promote Nelson Mandela Day, many people and organisations around the world take part in several activities. These activities are volunteering, sport, art, education, music, and culture. This day also celebrates a campaign known as “46664”, in reference to Nelson Mandela’s Robben Island prison number. The campaign was originally launched to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. In 1995 and 1999 Children’s Fund and the Nelson Mandela Foundation were established.

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

His Movements And Struggles:

In accordance with the conviction, Mandela served twenty-seven years in prison. While in jail, Mandela’s reputation grew and he became widely known as the most significant black leader in South Africa. The conditions that he had to go through as a prisoner were appalling. He performed hard labour in a lime quarry. Prisoners were segregated on the basis of race, and the black prisoners received the fewest rations. Political prisoners were kept separate from ordinary criminals and received fewer privileges. Mandela himself describes how as a D-group prisoner, the lowest classification, he was allowed one visitor and one letter every six months. Letters, when they came, were often delayed for long periods and made unreadable by the prison censors. It calls for nerves of steel for a man imprisoned for life to get a degree of Bachelor in Law from the University of London through correspondence.

In February 1985, President PW Botha offered Mandela conditional release in return for renouncing armed struggle. Mandela spurned the offer, releasing a statement through his daughter Zindzi saying, ‘What freedom am I being offered while the organisation of people remains banned? Only free men can negotiate. A prisoner cannot enter into contracts.’

Throughout Mandela’s imprisonment, local and international pressure mounted on the South African Government to release him. In 1989, South Africa reached a crossroads when Botha suffered a stroke and was replaced as President by Frederik Willem de Klerk. De Klerk announced Mandela’s release in February 1990. His release from jail was broadcast live all over the world.

South Africa’s first multi-racial elections, in which full enfranchisement was granted, were held in April 1994. The ANC won 62 per cent of the votes in the election. Mandela became the first black President. As President from May 1994 to June 1999, Mandela presided over the transition from minority rule and apartheid, winning international respect for his advocacy of national and international reconciliation.

It is not surprising that Mahatma Gandhi should have inspired Mandela in his war against apartheid. The most universally respected figure of post-colonial Africa, Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 along with De Klerk for their efforts to end apartheid and bring about the transition to non-racial democracy. Mandela remains an inspiring figure for any man in any corner of the world who becomes conscious of his rights and is willing to fight for the same.

Nelson Mandela International Day

Nelson Mandela came into this world on July 18th, 1918. He hailed from a small village in Umtata, South Africa. His entire life story symbolizes a struggle against institutionalized racism in South Africa. It wasn’t easy for him to fight against the prevailing situations, as he was also one of those who were burdened by the impartial system.

Before getting actively involved in protesting against anti-apartheid fight, Nelson Mandela survived several years of his life being a subject of colonization. As an African child, Mandela suffered being a prey of the European expatriate project that involved ‘civilizing’ native communities. In 1960’s, Nelson Mandela was put behind the bars for standing against the racist regulations of the government. He spent around three decades of his life in prison but did not compromise his demand for seeking equality and justice for the common people.

Being an uncompromising and courageous leader, Nelson Mandela was characterized as a man of strength, integrity and principles. In the year 1994, he alone led the nation to put an end to racial discrimination. He was the 1st black president ever to get nominated in South Africa. He served as the South African President for five years ranging from 1994 to 1999.

After Nelson Mandela retired from his public life, he continued to symbolize the dreams and hopes of an equal and free world. In December 2013, he left this world forever. He was of 95 years at that time. Nelson Mandela had to his credit more than two hundred and fifty awards and honors that included the “1993 Nobel Peace” Prize, the Medal of Freedom, and the Bharat Ratna.

Life of Nelson MandelaHe has conducted comprehensive traveling since his release from prison when he spoke. Nelson Mandela claims: “The biography of Pandit Nehru helped me prepare for my discharge. Who wrote about what’s going on when you leave prison. My daughter Zinzi claims she grew up without a dad who became the nation’s dad when he came back. This has put on my shoulders a huge burden. And wherever I travel, I instantly start missing the familiar–the mine dumps, the uniquely South African color and smell, and especially the individuals. I don’t like being away for a long moment. There’s no place like home for me.Mandela accepted the Nobel Peace Prize as a tribute to all those who worked for peace and opposed racism. This individual has been awarded as much as it has been to the ANC and all the individuals of South Africa.

Letter of Credit

In the era of Globalisation, businesses all over the world rely on each other, be it for raw materials, consultation services, marketing or capital goods. This led to an increase in international payments, especially with increase in exports. Some of the most common methods of international payments include- International cheque, Wire transfer and the safest and the most convenient method preferred by most exporters- Letter of Credit.

Letter of Credit is a bank guarantee given by the buyer’s (importer) bank to seller’s (exporter) bank. It is the most secure instrument, also known as Documentary Credit. The main concern of most exporter is safety which is why they prefer Letter of Credit over other modes of payment. It is guaranteed by the bank and the verification of all necessary documents including the inspection certificate is also done by the bank.

Documents required by the bank includes Bill of Lading, Marine insurance, Custom attested Packing list and invoice, Pre-shipment Inspection certificate and Certificate of origin.

Merits of LC

  • Exporter is assured of payment as it is guaranteed by the buyer’s bank.
  • Exporter can get advance payment from bank if the LC is confirmed and irrevocable.
  • It eliminates commercial risk.
  • It enables the importer (seller) to expand their sources of supply as exporters are always willing to supply against Letter of Credit.
  • It prevents blockage of funds and bad debts.

Types of LC

There are 10 types of Letters of Credit. Different LCs have different terms of payment associated with them and hence, it is important for exporters and importers to assess and wisely decide which type suits them the most.

  1. Sight LC: In a sight LC, the exporter immediately receives payment after goods are received.
  2. Usance LC: With a Usance LC, the exporter grants a credit period for payment which is jointly accepted by both banks.
  3. Confirmed LC: Confirmed LC does not allow the Issuer bank (importer’s bank) to modify the terms of LC. Ideally, LC should be confirmed as it is safer.
  4. Unconfirmed LC: Unconfirmed LC allows Issuer bank to modify the terms of LC.
  5. Red clause LC: In a Red clause LC, the importer must make partial or full advance payment.
  6. Green clause LC: Green clause LC allows the importer to make the payment after dispatch of the shipment.
  7. Negotiable LC: Issuing bank (importer’s bank) authorises any bank to be the Nominated bank (exporter’s bank) to negotiate the terms of the LC and receive the payment on behalf of the exporter.
  8. Revolving LC: For regular transactions between the same two parties, one can get a Revolving LC. It allows the parties to set a limit and use the same LC for multiple payments till the limit is reached.
  9. Transferable LC: This type of LC allows the exporter to endorse the LC in favour of a third-party which simply implies that the amount owed to the exporter by the importer is paid to the third-party directly, on behalf of the exporter.
  10. Back-to-back LC: This LC involves 3 parties and two payments under one LC. For example, payment to vendor by manufacturer for raw material and payment to the manufacturer by the retailer under the same LC. It eliminates the need for applying for two LCs.

GIRL IN THE BASEMENT

We all have heard many news about girl or girl child or woman being sexually harassed and abused by men. In most of the cases the culprit is or the culprits are the victim’s close relations like friend, boyfriend, even brother and father.

How much long can you stay at one place without stepping outside a room. Just think kept locked in room for one day. But you will be shocked and get anger, empathy, sorrow all at a time when you hear about a incident that happened in Austria. In Austria, a girl named Elisabeth Fritzl has been kept locked in the basement for 24 years by her own father Josef Fritzl and also he used her as a sex slave. The most horrible thing is he fathered seven kids with his own daughter.

FRITZL CASE:

The cased was emerged in 2008 when a woman named Elisabeth Fritzl told the police in the town of Amstetten, Austria. The girl was raped several times by her father Josef Fritzl in the closed concealed area in the cellar of their own family home.

Josef Fritzl married Rosemarie with whom he had three sons and four daughters including Elisabeth. Elisabeth was began abused by his father when she was Eleven. After Elisabeth completing her education at age of 15, she joined a course to become waitress. In 1983, she ran away from her house and bought back by police after three weeks. Then she completed her waitress course and also pursued a job.

HOW SHE WAS CAPTIVATED:

In 1984, Elisabeth was 18 years old. Josef Fritzl asked his daughter Elisabeth to help him to install a door in his newly built cellar complex. She also agreed and went happily to help her father. But she had no idea how monstrous her father is and this is going to be her last time to see her family and the outside world in 24 years. After reaching the basement she was drugged, tied up and chained to a bed by her father. He kept her captivated for 24 years and raped her several times and fathered seven children. Elisabeth’s mother Rosemarie filed a missing person report. After a month Fritzl handed some letters to police that he forced her daughter to write. The letters are postmarked Braunau telling that Elisabeth became tired of living with her family. So she ran away from them and also don’t want them to come for her. If they do she would leave the country. They believed that she joined a religious cult.

ELISABETH AND HER SEVEN CHILDREN:

After the captivity, Fritzl visited Elisabeth almost everyday or three, four times a week. He constantly raped her to punish her. Elizabeth first baby died shortly after birth. She gave birth to her second child that was taken from her by her father. Fritzl put the baby before his house door and the baby was found by Rosemarie . She took the baby believing that the baby was abandoned by his parents. So they decided to raise the baby but Rosemarie doesn’t know the truth. The same was followed for the next two babies. Fritzl and his wife, who were approved by local social services authorities as their foster parents. Officials said that Fritzl doubtlessly  explained how three of his infant grandchildren had appeared on his doorstep. The family received regular visits from social workers, who saw and heard nothing to arouse their suspicions.

With no medical care, and given just disinfectant and a pair of dirty scissors, Elisabeth gave birth to seven babies in the cellar.

In 1994 after  another three children Kerstin, Stefan and Felix. Fritzl enlarged the room and provided the room with all kind of basic necessities like radio, television, food etc. Elizabeth taught her children to read and write. If they try to escape, Fritzl punish them by shutting off the lights or refusing to give food for days. They were threatened to be gassed if they try to escape. They received electric shocks as an punishment.

Fritzl had been planning the underground prison for years, excavating the garden and even building a swimming pool over the complex where barbecue guests swam, unaware Elisabeth and her children was trapped in her hellish prison below.

ESCAPE:

Kerstin’s fell into illness in April 2008 was the beginning of the end of Elisabeth’s ordeal. In an uncharacteristic act of mercy, Fritzl drove the 19-year-old to hospital where she was instantly taken into intensive care.

Police concerned about the deathly pale girl put out an appeal for her mother to contact them and Elisabeth, watching them on a TV in the cellar, begged her father to set her free.

Incredibly, he relented, driving her to hospital and telling police that the family had recently been released from the sect. But when officers managed to get Elisabeth alone, she revealed the whole shocking story – on condition she was never to see her father again.

The first thing she said was “No one will believe me.”

Even after all this all the cruelty done by Fritzl, the lawyers tried to portray him as a loving father. After all the testimony, Josef Fritzl was sentenced to life imprisonment. He is still in Garsten Abbey jail. Elisabeth and her children were given therapy and treatment. I hope that now they are leading a happy and normal life.
