PLASTIC POLLUTION!

— A hazardous problem for our nation

Photo by Magda Ehlers on Pexels.com

I have realized that i’m living in a world ,where : rivers are filled with pollutants , air is filled up with toxic gases , soil is polluted with waste materials , and humans are habituated to turn a blind eye upon these by the name of technology and development, expect for some people.

The major factor of this pollution is plastic , Do you know : More than 99% of plastics are produced from chemicals derived from oil, natural gas and coal -all of which are non-renewable resources. only 9%of all plastic waste ever produced has been recycled , About 12% incinerated & the rest 79% used in land fills ,dumps etc,. so , please understand the seriousness of this and start using eco-friendly items.

plastic: the common factor for all pollutions.

Plastic waste is something which is not eco-friendly , non-renewable particles . Plastic pollution is nothing but a harmful accumulation of synthetic plastic production in the environment. Basically , plastic pollution is nothing but pollution caused by the plastic in different kinds of ways . Alot of plastic waste is dumped in the dumping areas not only causing the soil pollution but also making the land non-usable .

-> This land can be used for the poor people from slum areas . India consists 2,216,533 of population who are living in slums . By decreasing the usage of plastic makes the land useful by providing the people to get a place to live.

-> Plastic waste also makes the land infertile and makes the land useful for farming which decreases the production of crops.

-> By dumping the plastic waste in oceans and rivers creates water pollution . It even causes a problem for the livelihood of marine animals . 100 million marine animals die each year from plastic waste in oceans. “This is only in the records , out of the records don’t even know”. and 100,000 marine animals die from getting entangled in plastic waste.

-> Coming to the water pollution , Chlorinated plastic can release harmful chemicals into the surrounding soil, which can then seep into groundwater or other surrounding water sources, and also the ecosystem. The long stay of plastic in water can stimulate the plastic and combine some of its nature into water which makes water unreliable to drink and use .

->By burning the plastic , the toxic gases get released causing air pollution . The chemicals which get released ,pollute the air and affect the surrounding areas by making the air un-breathable . The smoke which comes is so hazardous ,it remains in air for longer time and causing the damage for ozone layer : which is protecting us from the direct hit of sunlight . The direct hit of sunlight can shatter the livelihood of humans cause we cannot bare the heat it produces. Though there are many other initials where poisonous gases are producing which causes air pollution. one of the main cause is plastic.

summary

so , guys its high time . so many people changed their way about using plastic in their lives .We also need to change and make earth a better place to live . Lets struggle at first to enjoy the tang of better planet . Don’t you guys want to feel the smell of fresh air where pollution is not present anywhere ,see the stars where the sky can create mysteries with the insane nature it has . I hope one day we can see plastic free world.

Bioterrorism

From the past two decades , it is stated that the threat of biological warfare is not a myth but a harsh reality of the world . Due to the outbreak , we can recognise the high risk and consequences of bioterrorism.

This editorial provides you the overview of bioterrorism , it’s symptoms , causes , measures and impact on humans in present scenario .

Introduction

A bioterrorism attack is the deliberate release of viruses, bacteria, or other germs to cause illness or death. These germs are often found in nature. But they can sometimes be made more harmful by increasing their ability to cause disease, spread, or resist medical treatment.

Biological agents spread through the air, water, or in food. Some can also spread from person to person. They can be very hard to detect. They don’t cause illness for several hours or days. Scientists worry that anthrax, botulism, Ebola and other hemorrhagic fever viruses, plague, or smallpox could be used as biological agents.

Despite patchy intelligence, France started its own biological weapons programme in the early 1920s. It was headed by Auguste Trillat, an inventive German-educated chemist who envisioned and tested the sustained virulence of airborne pathogens.

The goal of bioterrorism is usually to create fear and/or intimidate governments or societies for the purpose of gaining political, religious, or ideological goals. Bioterrorism may have a different effect on societies than would weapons such as explosives.

Symptoms

The symptoms of exposure to a biological agent might include sore throat, fever, double or blurred vision, rash or skin blisters, exhaustion, difficulty talking, confusion, descending muscle weakness, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and coughing.

History

Historically, biological weapons have been a threat to humans for many centuries. At those times, very crude methods such as fecal matter, animal carcasses, etc. were used to contaminate water sources, but now the concentrated forms of biological agents such as dried spores and genetically modified organisms are available, which are fatal even in minute quantity.

During the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965, a scrub typhus outbreak in north-eastern India came under suspicion. India’s defense and intelligence outfits were alert to the outbreak of pneumonic plague – well known in biological warfare – in Surat and Bubonic plague in Beed in 1994, which caused several deaths and sizeable economic loss.

Prevention

There are some points that you need to consider during the outbreak :

  • If you become aware of a suspicious substance, quickly get away.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with layers of fabric that can filter the air but still allow breathing. Examples include two to three layers of cotton such as a t-shirt, handkerchief or towel.
  • Depending on the situation, wear a face mask to reduce inhaling or spreading germs.
  • If you have been exposed to a biological agent, remove and bag your clothes and personal items.
  • Follow official instructions for disposal of contaminated items.
  • Wash yourself with soap and water and put on clean clothes.
  • Contact authorities and seek medical assistance. You may be advised to stay away from others or even to quarantine.
  • If your symptoms match those described and you are in the group considered at risk, immediately seek emergency medical attention.
  • Follow the instructions of doctors and other public health officials.
    Avoid crowds.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water frequently.
  • Do not share food or utensils.

How AI will shape our future

Artificial intelligence has had a huge impact on many industries in recent years and will continue to benefit them in the future. The pandemic-induced acceleration of technology adoption has led many sectors, both private and public to leverage AI for their advantage and growth. In the last few years, AI has enabled many innovations and driven the proliferation of technologies like IoT, robotics, analytics, and voice assistants. According to a report, AI topped the patent filings in 2020. This is not new, AI has been securing a large number of patents in the last few years.

Impact of AI

Artificial Intelligence has had huge impacts in the healthcare sector, especially since the pandemic last year. AI and other disruptive technologies powered a patient-centered healthcare system. This new care scenario is all digital and highlights the importance of data and analytics. Predictive analytics, machine learning, and AI played a pivotal role in drug discovery and vaccine development. In the coming years, the use of these advanced technologies will become the norm, and easily accessible electronic medical records will simplify diagnostics. AI will enable healthcare systems to track and monitor patients in real-time, gain genetic data, and each person’s lifestyle. Algorithms will take up the charge of diagnosing health conditions and prescribing suitable treatments.AI has a lot to offer to the transportation and manufacturing sectors. In the coming years, we might witness the perfect evolution and commercialization of smart and autonomous vehicles. Self-driving cars are already available today, but by the next two to three decades, the world will witness more people using them. The manufacturing sector will also gain benefits from AI. Increased use of robots in factories and predictive analytics in the sector will enhance the quality of products and streamline the logistics and supply chain. Other potential impacts of AI would be in elder care systems, education, finance and business,  customer services, media, space exploration, smart cities, and smart homes.

Will AI Dismantle the Human Workforce?

his fear has always been looming on artificial intelligence. Experts and tech giants like Elon Musk and Stephen Hawkings have warned humans against the adverse consequences and threats of the technology. One of the widely claimed consequences is AI taking over the human workforce and causing massive job losses. This claim is highly overblown and researchers agree that although AI might displace humans from some job roles, it will not replace the whole workforce. AI is likely to replace routine jobs and repetitive tasks like picking and packaging goods, separating and segregating materials, responding to repetitive customer queries, etc. Even today some of these functions are still done by humans and AI will take over these tasks in the future. Thus, the human workforce engaged in these simple and routine jobs should be upskilled and trained to perform new skills. As we are very far from reaching artificial general intelligence, the current technology cannot augment human intelligence fully. This is the reason people should be trained to do high-skilled tasks like programming, coding, and others that are essential for the future. The transition from the old to the new job should be smoothened to reduce the massive impacts.

Should we fear Apocalypse?

Recently, a paper published by researchers at AMOLF’s Soft Robotic Matter group, exhibited how self-learning robots can easily adapt to changing circumstances. These small robotic units were connected to each other for them to learn on their own to move. The future will harness the hidden capabilities of AI and encourage the creation of self-learning robots. Reinforcement learning and training algorithms based on Generative Adversarial Networks will be explored. AI will also prove a flagbearer for sustainable technologies and will be used against fighting climate change by reducing pollution levels and encouraging green AI research. Another threat posed by AI is the violation of human rights by impacting privacy. For example, voice assistants like Alexa and technologies like facial recognition have been blamed for invading the privacy of humans and probably eavesdropping into their lives. These technologies are feared to be used by the powerful state and federal authorities against specific minorities and will curtail the freedom of speech and expression. Thus, AI needs to evolve much to move ahead of these criticisms and enable an ethical and trustworthy system in the future.

Hence, AI as such might not become a threat to human existence. However, there are chances that humans might misuse the capabilities of the technology for causing harm. The scenario of war robots being used to feed harmful motives through their algorithms can be an example. Therefore, in the years ahead, it is necessary to develop an ethical AI ecosystem without human biases and this might alleviate the potential risks of AI in the future.

Star Wars II Explained

Let’s pick up where we left off the last time. Palpatine rose to the position of Chacelor, Qui-Gon Died and Anakin was accepted in the Jedi Order as Obi-Wan’s apprentice. A Sith threat looms in the distance. The story is set 10 years after the battle of Naboo.

The Galactic Republic faces a new threat in the form of a separatist movement organised by former Jedi Knight Count Dooku. Dooku is the former student of Grand Master Yoda and master of the now deceased Qui-Gon Jin, known for his excellent combative prowess and being egotistical. Queen Padme now a senator wishes to form an army to help Jedi combat the threat, she narrowly avoids an attempt on her life on Coruscant. Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his apprentice Anakin Skywalker are assigned to protect the senator, after thwarting another attempt on the senators life Obi-Wan is asked to find the mysterious bounty hunter responsible in the death of the assassin.

Obi-Wan’s search leads him to Kamino a planet known for its cloning facilities. There Obi-Wan finds out that clones are being made in the name of the Republic on the orders of Sifo Dyas. Sifo Dyas was gifted with the power of foresight wihch showed him the possibility of a war. Sifo Dyas died before the order could be completed and the order was funded by darth Sidious who used bounty hunter Jango Fett as the genetic template for the clones. Obi-Wan interested in Jango meets him and discovers that a man known as Darth Tyranus suggested Jango being the genetic templet. Obi-Wan notices the helmet stored in Jangos room and realises him to be the same bounty hunter that killed the assassin. After a brief battle against Obi-Wan, Jango escapes with his son Boba to the planet Genosis.

Anakin begins experiencing visions of his mother Shmi, in those visions she seems to be in a lot of pain. He decides to return to Tatooine his home world to check up on her. The slave trader Watto reveals that he sold Shmi to a moisture farmer, after tracking the farmer Anakin finds out that Shmi was abtucted by the tusken Raiders. Hell bent on saving his mother Anakin ventures into the camp to find Shmi barely alive, she dies in his arms. Anakin overcome with anger massacres the entire tribe of the Tusken Raiders only to realise what he did after a while. Feelings like anger, fear, hatred and jealousy are considered to be the seeds of the Dark side as they cloud our judgement.

Obi-Wan discovers the separatist movement organised by count Dooku on Genosis and is caught before he could relay his findings to the Jedi order. Count Dooku visits the captured Obi-Wan and reveals himself to be working with the mysterious Darth Sidious against the galactic republic. The message that Obi-Wan sent reached Anakin who along with Padme decide to save Obi-Wan, they are caught by Jango and sentenced to death along with Obi-Wan.

The trio manages to fend off the creatures set to kill them and stay alive until a clone army led by Grand Master Yoda, Master Mace Windu and other Jedi arrive on Genosis after receiving the retransmitted message from Anakin. Windu kills Jango Fett in the ensuing battle against the droid armies, Obi-Wan and Anakin intercept Dooku that tries to escape. They engage in a light saber duel against Count Dooku but loose after a brief battle due to Dooku being a skilled duellist. They are about to be killed but Yoda intercepts and defends them, Dooku knowing he could never defeat his old master uses the force to distract Yoda by making him choose between saving the young Jedi or letting Dooku go. Yoda decides to save the young Jedi and Dooku uses this opportunity to escape.

Senate representative Jar-Jar Binks proposes a successful vote to give the chancellor emergency powers completely authorizing the creation of the clone army. The Jedi council now more wary of the oncoming threat is baffled by the claim Dooku made, that the senate is controlled by Sidious. Anakin secretly marries Padme which is against the Jedi rules, Jedi claim attachments to be a path that could lead to the dark side.

We shall pick up the next part soon so stay tuned. Until then May the Force be with you

Ways To Reduce Stress

Many individuals nowadays have lost sight of their hobbies, interests, and passions as a result of their stressful lives. As a consequence, individuals suffer from stress as a result of overwork and weariness.

Stress is really intense. It could have a detrimental influence on both your physical and emotional health. Whenever you think, your mind is in continual contact with your body. Your ideas generate feelings and emotions, which can be impacted by environmental stresses. This demonstrates how intimately the mind and body are linked, making it critical to identify the role stress tends to play in your daily lives.

Sadly, despite the evident negative impacts of stress, many individuals continue to ignore it. Nevertheless, properly combating stress requires prioritising your own needs. It’s time for action if you’d like to reclaim your rhythm after being stressed out.

While it is difficult to escape stress in life, you can learn how to manage it efficiently. There seem to be measures you could do to help you cope with daily pressures more effectively so you can get back into your flow easily.

1. Recognize The Sources Of Stress

One of the primary causes of stress is a hectic and unhealthy lifestyle, however this varies from person to person. Make a list of the things in your life that are giving you stress. Is it effective? Is it a personal issue? This is the first and most important step in properly combating stress. The more you understand what causes your anxiety or concern, the better you will be able to handle or combat stress.

2. Cultivate Mindfulness

When you are worried, your brain and body’s normal reaction is to fight or flee. Meditation and breathing techniques, on the other hand, have also been shown to perform marvels in terms of stress relief and perhaps even improvement in mental health. Find a few periods of solace each day when you can relax and make some time for yourself to get through your concerns and cleanse your thoughts.

3. Prioritize self-care

Why aren’t you taking care of yourself the same way you take care of your house with regular upgrades or your car with planned maintenance? Among the most essential realisations is that no one can take more care of you than yourself. Ignoring oneself makes you increasingly vulnerable towards the dangers of stress. While scheduling time for self-care, keep the following in mind:

  • While it may seem self-evident, it bears repeating: eat well, exercise frequently, and get enough sleep. Many individuals do not realise this, yet it may have an impact on how you felt during the day. If you eat poorly and don’t get enough sleep, it’s simple to notice indications of stress in your body.
  • Many individuals feel uneasy about investing money on self-care items or services. If you have troublesome skin, arrange for a consultation with an expert who can help you clean your skin. If crystals provide you a burst of mental and physical vitality, purchase that citrine bracelet and make yourself happy

4. Rise Up and Begin Moving

Getting up and moving about is among the best methods to combat stress and feel better. Although it may be tough to find opportunities for proper exercise once you have a career and a home to look after, you should make an attempt if you’d like to regain your flow. Endorphins are hormones that make us feel good while you workout. You will feel much better on the inside if you feel happy about your physique.

5. Align Yourself with Positive People

Understand that you are not alone in your battle against stress. You should surround yourself with individuals who can help you manage your stress levels in check so it doesn’t spiral out of control. Stress may cause feelings of loneliness, so make an effort to spend more time with your loved ones.

Seek comfort and guidance from reliable loved ones. There are also several support systems available, so if you don’t feel at ease approaching anybody about your stress issues, you can always join any of them just for added help. Spend time around individuals who make you happy and do activities which bring you joy.

It can also be difficult to determine where to start when attempting to combat stress. Although stress is a normal part of life, it may sometimes become excessive and cause physical and mental issues. Joy and comfort are within your grasp—try either of these tactics and you’ll see that you can definitely battle stress and reclaim your flow!

Overpopulation problems

As of now July 2021, there are 7.9 billion people in this world. Day by day, the population of humans in this earth is increasing rapidly, especially in countries like China and India. Excess of everything is big problem. Like that excess of population is also a big problem. There many problems with overpopulation. Especially in India, day by day the population is expanding rapidly. In this blog, we are going to discuss what is overpopulation? Why population of India is high? Overpopulation problems in India? How to control overpopulation?

WHAT IS OVERPOPULATION?

Overpopulation is the state at which population becomes so excessive that people must be managed to live. When overpopulation occurs the available resources will become limited or exploited. This makes the population hard to survive. As of now China is the world’s most populated country followed by India.

WHY POPULATION OF INDIA IS HIGH?

Birth rate and death rate are the two aspects that determine the population. If the birth rate is higher than death rate then the population will increase. If the death rate is higher than birth rate than the population will decrease. In India the birth rate is much higher than death rate. India was able to control death rate but it failed to control the birth rate. That’s why India’s population is high. Child marriages is also a reason for overpopulation, even though the law states that the marriageable age for the girls is 18 and boys is 21 years. But in some places the practice is continuing. Old culture norms is also one of the reason in India’s overpopulation. Parents of newly married couple often forces them to have a child. In order to have a male child, couples have more children.

OVERPOPULATION PROBLEMS IN INDIA

The population of India is 1.3 billion alone. India is the second most populated country in the world after china. Experts suggest that India will overtake china in 10 to 15 years. Due to high population there is more competition for everything in India, whether it is a job, college admission etc. Overpopulation generates huge unemployment causing poverty. There will be more unemployed people in India. Which slows down the development of the country. With high population, the resources like land, water and forests will be exploited. With high population, the food prices will rise because there is limited food. Inflation is the major consequence of overpopulation. Overpopulation will cause unequal distribution of money, which widens the difference between rich and poor. In an survey the population density of India in about to be 454 inhabitants live per square kilometre. India ranks 7 position with land.

HOW TO CONTROL OVERPOPULATION?

Government should aware people the consequences of over population. Government should make a population policy regarding the growing population. Increasing the awareness of use of contraceptive devices and free distribution of condoms among the poor. Government should spread the awareness of sex education and family planning. They should encourage people not to specify the birth of the child. Women empowerment should also be encouraged. Organizing campaigns to spread awareness about overpopulation. All these methods will help to control the population of India.

That’s all from my side. I hope you like it.

Greenhouse effect

The trapping of energy from the sun by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere leading to rise in Earth’s temperature is known as the green house effect.Greenhouse gases such as carbondioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and chloro fluoro carbon absorb and reflect infra red waves radiated by the earth causing increase in temperature. The effect is very similar to what happens inside a greenhouse.

Greenhouse

A greenhouse is a structure of glass or plastic in which temperature and humidity can be controlled for the cultivation or growth of plants.

Greenhouse gases

⭐ Carbondioxide:It is the most abundant green house gas released by burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, respiration of animals, decaying of organic matter.

⭐ Methane:It is produced by the incomplete decomposition of organic compounds by methanogenic bacteria under anaerobic condition. It is also produced by the enteric fermentation in the cow and from flooded rice fields.

Nitrous oxide:It is released by the burning of fossil fuels, industrial processes and agricultural practices like ploughing.

⭐ Chlorofluorocarbons:These are coolant gases used in refrigerators, aerosols and solvents.

Effect of global warming

⭐The level of sea rises due to the melting of glaciers and thermal expansion of water. It can submerge coastal areas of countries.

⭐Due to global warming the rise in temperature could create unexpected changes in weather conditions, making some regions hotter and other colder.

⭐The rainfall pattern could also change causing drought in some areas and flooding in others.

⭐ Crops and forests may be affected by insects pests and plant diseases resulting in severe damage.

⭐It can also result in the loss of biodiversity due to the extinction of coral reefs and other key species.

Control measures

Global warming can be controlled by reducing the use of fossil fuels, afforestation, carbon sequestration, shifting to renewable sources of energy such as solar power, wind power and hydel power.

Things you can do to reduce global warming

⭐Use less heat and air conditioning

⭐Car pool, use bicycles and walk when you can

⭐Buy energy efficient products

⭐Use CFL bulbs

⭐ Reduce,reuse and recycle resources

⭐Switch off equipment when they are not in use

⭐Plant trees

⭐ Encourage others to conserve energy

GLOBAL WARMING – THE BIGGEST THREAT IN 21st CENTURY

OVERVIEW :-

Global Warming as the name suggests is the rapid increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s climate. The major reason for global warming is the industrial revolution of the late 18th century. Carbon emission from automobiles is also a big contributer of greenhouse gases. Due to industrial revolution, the generation of greenhouse gases like CO2 has increased in a significant amount in the Earth’s atmosphere. Greenhouse gases are those gases which are responsible for global warming. Since the industrial revolution, the average temperature of Earth’s surface has increased about 1 degree celsius.

The reason for global warming due to greenhouse gases is that when the solar energy from the sun strikes on the Earth’s surface then some percent of solar energy is reflected back into the atmosphere. But if there is a presence of high concentration of greenhouse gases then thus solar energy is not reflected back into the atmosphere but it is trapped and absorbed by greenhouse gases like CO2 and other fine particulate matter. This results in an increase in the temperature of the Earth’s climate.

Effects of Global Warming :-

  • Change in the pattern of rainfall is one of the major effect of global warming. Nowadays, it is widely seen that in one part of the country there is extreme rainfall and in other part of the country there is a severe draught.
  • Extreme weather conditions are increasing every year. This includes a rapid rise in the number of cyclones, tornadoes, sandstorms, etc. throughout in the world. For example, India is now facing 3-4 tropical cyclones every year which used to be 0-2 every year just few years back.
  • Change in the rainfall pattern has already affected the farming and agriculture in an adverse manner. Every year farmers have to bear heavy losses due to extreme rainfall or drought. In countries like India which is heavily depended on agriculture sector even one year of bad monsoon season can bring great loss to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING
  • As the temperature of Earth’s surface is rising every year, the water present in the form of large icebergs at the North and South Poles are melting at a speed more than the usual speed. Due to this, the water level of the oceans is rising at a threatening speed. As per the reports, areas near to the oceans will be completely submerged under sea water if the water level will rise in such a speed.
  • The temperature of the water in the water bodies is also increasing due to global warming. The aquatic plants and animals are not able to adapt themselves with it and it has lead to large scale death of aquatic flora and fauna.

STEPS TO PREVENT GLOBAL WARMING :-

  • Chimneys installed with filters should be made compulsory in every industries to prevent the exhaustion of particulate matter in the atmosphere.
  • Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and traditional light bulbs also cause global warming. Use of CFCs should be completely banned and LED light bulbs should be used as they save electricity as well as help in reducing global warming.
  • Thermal generation of electricity should be eliminated as soon as possible. Instead of it other methods which uses renewable resources must be used to generate electricity.
  • Deforestation of forests should be banned and afforestation should be undertaken with a fast pace.
  • Instead of using fossil fuels like petroleum for automobiles (petroleum releases particulate matter) use of electric vehicles must be entertained.

Methods of Stealing Information

Shoulder Surfing

Shoulder surfing is a word that refers to someone looking at another person’s computer or mobile device screen and keyboard in order to collect sensitive information. Direct observation can be accomplished by simply glancing over someone’s shoulder – a practice known as shoulder surfing – or by employing binoculars, hidden or apparent video cameras, and other optical equipment.

Example

Shoulder surfing at ATMs is an example of a crime in which a suspect looks over your shoulder while you enter in your PIN number.

Several recent incidents have resulted in police issuing warnings, announcing arrests, and even conducting sting operations:

Milpitas (California) – On Jan. 2, 2015, a bank employee spotted a lady monitoring ATM clients. Police investigated and discovered that money had been illegally stolen from numerous consumers’ accounts.

Concept

Shoulder surfing is the act of directly observing someone to gain personal or private information. Shoulder surfing is the practice of peeking over someone’s shoulder to acquire information while the victim is unaware. This is particularly useful in congested areas if someone is using a computer, smartphone, or ATM. Shoulder surfing gets suspect fast if it occurs while there are few people around. Depending on the area and scenario, binoculars, video cameras, and vision-enhancing equipment are also employed.

Personal security keys, such as username and password combinations, are important personal and private data protections in our data and identity-driven world. Unfortunately, hackers do not necessarily require technical knowledge to obtain information. Credit card numbers, personal identification numbers (PINs), crucial personal information (such as middle names and birth dates required in password recovery) and usernames/passwords are the most often stolen data by shoulder surfing. In the case of bank accounts, this sort of information might be used to log into accounts and steal additional information, such as money.

Dumpster diving

A dumpster diving attack is a type of cyber attack made possible by searching through the victim’s trash.

While you may imagine a dirty and disgusting scene in which someone jumps into a trash, the reality is far less filthy. Threat actors might be in and out of the dumpster in minutes during a dumpster diving attack. They may, however, already have a box full of sensitive papers, storage devices, and workstations.

Example

Jerry Schneider, who established a wholesale telephone equipment firm while still in high school in 1968, is one of the most well-known trash divers. The inspiration originated from a dumpster, especially Pacific Telephone’s garbage, which contained paperwork, instructions, and bills related to the order and delivery system.

Needless to say, Schneider got in trouble and served 40 days in a security facility. He then founded a security consulting company.

Concept

Dumpster diving is the act of searching through an organization’s trash for information that may be used to gain access to its network. Companies frequently discard sensitive data, such as system manuals, which attackers exploit to gain access to information systems. Un-erased and complete hard drives with extremely sensitive information are dumped in certain circumstances, allowing a dumpster diver to easily boot up and get information.

In many cases, dumpster diving involves getting data about a user in order to impersonate that user and gain access to his or her user profiles or other restricted areas of the Internet or a local network. Dumpster diving can mean looking through physical trash for such information, or searching discarded digital data. In either case, security experts warn users to leave a clean trail to prevent identity theft and avoid other consequences that can stem from a successful dumpster diving operation.

Businesses and other large entities have developed practical ways to discourage dumpster diving, such as shredding paperwork and locking waste bins. Other security measures include the use of firewalls and other precautions to stop dumpster divers from getting access to discarded or loose data, such as ensuring that data is wiped off of old hard drives and destroying old storage media.

Social engineering

Social engineering is the term used for a broad range of malicious activities accomplished through human interactions. It uses psychological manipulation to trick users into making security mistakes or giving away sensitive information.

Example

$100 Million Google and Facebook Spear Phishing Scam

The biggest social engineering attack of all time (as far as we know) was perpetrated by Lithuanian national Evaldas Rimasauskas against two of the world’s biggest companies: Google and Facebook.

Rimasauskas and his team set up a fake company, pretending to be a computer manufacturer that worked with Google and Facebook. Rimsauskas also set up bank accounts in the company’s name.

The scammers then sent phishing emails to specific Google and Facebook employees, invoicing them for goods and services that the manufacturer had genuinely provided — but directing them to deposit money into their fraudulent accounts.

Between 2013 and 2015, Rimasauskas and his associates cheated the two tech giants out of over $100 million.

Concept

Spear phishing is a common social engineering technique. For example, a phisher may send an email to addresses at a target company asking a user to verify security information. The email is made to appear legitimate and from the IT staff or senior management, along with a warning for major consequences if the required information is not provided. As with a regular phishing attack, the victim clicks a link that goes to a site the hacker sets up to gather the sensitive information, generally with the look and feel of the real website. After obtaining the info, the hacker has the ability to access the company’s network by using a legitimate login.

Social engineering is as dangerous and harmful as any other technical attack. In fact, you could argue that social engineering is more serious than other threats, as humans are always in a vulnerable state. It is not that tough to properly configure a firewall. It is very difficult to train new staff about the dangers of social engineering exploits.

Is MSG bad for our health?

What is MSG? Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is added to many foods to enhance flavor. MSG is commonly found in canned foods, soups, fast foods, and processed foods. While (FDA) has classified MSG as a food ingredient that’s “generally recognized as safe,” but its use remains controversial. That’s why FDA require that it should be listed on the label.

Symptoms that may occur after consuming MSG include:

  •  Nausea
  • Weakness or fatigue
  •  Headache
  •  Sweating or flushing
  • Numbness
  •  Chest pain
  •  Hives
  • But there reaction is short term or mild, that don’t require treatment. The only way to prevent a reaction is to avoid foods containing MSG.

Food containing MSG.

MSG is used in many common foods including snacks, seasoning, soups, and noodles. MSG is a flavor enhancer, so it’s included in many seasonings. Dressings like ketchup, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, soy sauce, mustard, and salad dressings have been known to contain MSG to boost flavor. Many foods contain MSG naturally such as year extract, soy extract.

Many of the foods containing MSG, like instant noodles, chips, aren’t necessarily part of a balanced diet, so we can easily avoid eating them. MSG, which has been banned in certain [US] cities and MSG is scientific invention. It’s in news since, when a scientist coined the term “Chinese Restaurant Syndrome” for MSG symptioms.

However there is no scientific evidence to suggest that MSG has any adverse effects in general population in the amounts normally consumed as part of the diet. Many governing food agency consider MSG safe for human consumption as a flavor enhancer. It’s harmful only when they consume large amounts of MSG on an empty stomach.

Homemade foods contain more vegetables, less carbohydrates, less calories and less fat than any other fast food. It’s the best.

AirBnB

AirBnB is an online market that connects people that are looking for accomodations with people that are looking to rent out their homes. It is operational in more than 100,000 cities in over 220 countries worldwide. Travelers can book an AirBnB for considerably lower than a hotel room. However, the main risk is that the property may not love up to the expectation.

Advantages of AirBnB include:-

  1. Host price preference: The hosts can decide the price guests have to pay to rent the property. It can be charged per day, per week and sometimes even per month.
  2. Free Access: Hosts don’t have to pay any fee to get listed on AirBnB. The property on the website includes a detailed description, some photos and a profile about the hosts
  3. Wide Selection: The AirBnB website lists single rooms, apartments, entire houses and even yachts and houseboats.
  4. Guarantees for Guests and Hosts: The host guarantee program provides protection for upto $1,000,000 in damages, if any. AirBnB also holds the guest’s payment for 24 hours before releasing it to the host.
  5. In more recent years, AirBnB has started offering restaurants and other experiences. People can search by location and will see a list of experiences, such as workshops and sightseeing, offered by local Airbnb hosts. Restaurant listings also include reviews from Airbnb hosts.
  6. Customizable searches: Guests can search through all the AirBnB listings—not only by date and location, but by price, type of property, amenities, and the language of the host.

However, it also has some disadvantages. They are:-

  1. Not legal everywhere: Hosts need to check if AirBnB is allowed to operate in their country before publishing the listing. They might be required to acquire special licenses or permissions. Some countries where it is illegal are Syria, Croatia and Netherlands.
  2. Potential damage: The biggest risk for the hosts is property damage. The Host guarantee program doesn’t cover loss or damage of cash, paintings or jewellery. There have been many cases when the host’s property has been trashed.
  3. Additional Fees: A number of additional fees are imposed. Guests pay a service fee of 20% on top of the reservation fee to cover Airbnb’s customer support and other services. Banks or credit card issuers may add fees if applicable. And while listings are free, Airbnb charges hosts a service fee of at least 3% for each reservation, to cover the cost of processing the transaction.

So, how does AirBnB make money? They take commissions from both the guests as well as the hosts for every successful transaction. Recently, AirBnB has been facing a lot of restrictions because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has lost millions of dollars beacuse of it. But they have resumed operations in some countries and is certain to make a comeback.
